‘You’ve been working so hard.’
Page 279 (via fiftyshadesoftheday)

Since 2000, average hours worked in the United States have been declining, but the average U.S. worker still spends more hours than their counterparts in Western Europe.
Hours worked is negatively correlated to GDP per capita, which makes sense considering it’s the aggregate of something apparent in individuals.
Working hard is something you have control over: it’s simple, and it’s unpleasant without measurable results to prove your matyrdom was a sham.
Actual productivity is more difficult to accomplish, and it requires doing things differently, cleverly, instead of just the same thing more. Being clever might not make you feel exhausted or terrible, and if you don’t feel awful, how do you know that you’ve been punished and deserve relief?
For office jobs, most people could work 4 hours and be just as productive as 8. For retail and customer service, there’s no reason a person should have to work two or three jobs at the same time, none of them providing healthcare.
Then we’d all have to spend a lot more time working on ourselves, and that’s really hard work. We’d probably end up just scrolling down endless pages and playing addictive, meaningless freemium games.

‘Why did you want to know if he was gay?’
Page 21 (via adavidjohnson)
People have empathy for those they also consider to be people. That may be why gay and lesbian rights made such strides so quickly compared to other groups, even with religious pushback.
Maintaining bigotry depends on being able to seal yourself away from it, emotionally if not physically, but you can’t make a literal gated community to keep out queer people because, like a horror story, they’re already inside the house. Hate seems harder to maintain when the abstract object of your scorn comes inside the Trojan Horse of a family member, friend, co-worker you care for.
If so, that bodes well for trans issues because Caitlyn Jenner, for her many flaws, has the ability to utilize wealth and other privileges, to utilize pre-existing social connections to be seen as a full human and influential in a way that black Americans in the South were largely prevented from acquiring under decades of Jim Crow. Already, writings mentioning ‘transsexuals’ from 20 or 40 years ago sound harsh and dated in ways that would have gone uncommented at the time.
In 1986, Bowers v. Hardwick said sodomy could be illegal. But ‘Ellen’ and ‘Will & Grace’ in people’s homes and hundreds of thousands of people having conversations about their self and other people close to them mean the torch set new fires everywhere instead of burning only from one end. By Obergefell v. Hodges in 2015, there was an assumption that gay and lesbian people were people and deserved full rights. That assumption is the result of a lot of work, it’s not universal, and it could be rolled back, but it was achieved.
Why would you even care if he was gay? What does it matter, compared to everything else about that person? Why should you ask it with suspicion? When you care about someone as a person and want what’s best for them, trying to define or categorize them is not a question often asked.

tldr; change comes from the top no matter how hard the bottom tries.
sad but probobly true

I don’t know if gem fusions can corrupt, but I had this idea about a corrupt Malachite, being based on the opalised fossils of marine creatures. Poor thing is probably suffering.

Gods I know I live with a nerotypicle guy and he is so well put togeather it's amazing
Never realised my executive functioning was really this bad. Only realising it now because my partner’s (neurotypical) sister is staying with us. Also just realised I’ve never shared a space with a neurotypical person in my adult life as my family is mentally ill and so are most of the people I associate with.
And now I don’t know what to do with this knowledge.

I want to know how you made that flamethrower!! I wanna know materials and prop usage! let me know it alll!! (I want to make one for a friend too ;) )
Oh man, when I was biulding it, I made a lot of photos thinking “Maybe I should post a tutorial”. SO WELL, HERE’S A TUTORIAL.
First of all, I’m spanish, and here we use metric system, so I’m sorry if you use inches but I don’t know how much a inch is, and all the sizes will be in cm. In second place, it’s a bit long so I’ll try to summarize but I don’t know how much it will be. And finally, use it as reference. If you had an idea to make something better, try it, please. I’m not a proffesional. Anyway, let’s start:
Materials:
PVC pipes (80 cm long and 2,5 cm diameter) (50 cm long and 5 cm diameter) (50 cm long and 2 cm diameter)
2 plastic connectors, one for each pipe of 2 and 2.5 cm diameter pipe
2 caps for the 5 cm diameter pipe.
A plastic jar.
Cardboard (as much as you can).
2 metalic clamps.
A flexible plastic pipe.
A big plastic cup (about 15 cm tall)
Some cable.
Duct tape.
An old radiography.
Some plastic junk I had in my house.
A faucet (I’m not sure if is this how it’s called.)
First you take the plastic jar, cut the round of the tap, and glue it in the base to make it plane. If it is already plane, don’t do a shit. Later take the cap of a spray can, cut one side and glue it there. Then paint it all. It should became from this:

into this
Tumblr media
Then make a hole inside de round piece and plug the faucet. I’m my town there aren’t any place where I could buy one, so I make something like this with some plastic shit I had in my house.
Tumblr media
Now, take the radiography, round it and glue it, make holes and the cut, paint it, and glue it to the hole of the jar in the other side. You can also make the stickers and put them in the side.
Tumblr media
Now, take the smaller and the medium size pipes (talking about diameter) and bend them using a heat gun, or if you don’t have one, you can use a hair dryer, as me. You should see some tutorials on Youtube like this one to make it easier. The result should look like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You have to make a hole in the plastic cup to the medium pipe. Take care and make it slow, because the plastic can break easily. I used the drill at the minimum power, and then with a knife I ended it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now glue it and paint it.
Tumblr media
In one of the caps for the big pipe, you have to make a hole big enough to put there the small pipe, and in the other one make 2 small holes and put inside some cable. Them glue the cable and the small pipe to the appropiate cap and put them in the pipe.
Tumblr media
The handle is the most elaborated piece. I designed in cardboard and cut a lot of small pieces and glue them between themselves. It was crazy and it must be a better way to do it, but I like the result.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The space in the big pieces was to connect the PVC pipes to the handle, and made a small mechanism to let the trigger move, using an elastic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All together should look like this
Tumblr media
Also, use a bit more of the medium size pipe to the handle, I can’t remember the size but enough to put it into the handle and make it through the end of it. Put there the plastic connector, glue it all, and paint it.
Tumblr media
Also, make a couple of holes for the cable who connect from the big pipe to the handle.
Tumblr media
Now it’s time to start connecting things between them. Put the medium size pipe in his hole and glue it.
Tumblr media
Now, use the metalic clamps and hot glue to attach the pipes.
Tumblr media
Now, the hardest point. Make 2 small holes in the jar, and through the big pipe, and use big screws to attach them.
Tumblr media
Use the duct tape to cover the screws and stabilize the jar.
Tumblr media
Finally, glue the flexible pipe to the faucet and the bottom of the handle, and you can cosider it finished.
Tumblr media
I know it was long and with making it shorter I mess it a bit. Also I’m sure I misspelled somewhere beacuse there where some technical  vocabulary. So if you have any doubts ask me more specifically, there’s no problem and I’ll be glad to answer it. And that’s a rock fact!
