How it started vs how it’s going (Batfam edition!✨)

a little bit of batfamily headcanons in the form of questions that you can answer in the notes

- Tim self-publishes short stories on Amazon under a pen name. What is his pen name? What is the title of his best selling book?

- Jason hollowed out a thick old book in the Manor’s west wing library as a kid to use for hiding sentimental objects. He recently remembered about it and spent an afternoon trying to find which one it was. When he finally locates it, what’s inside?

- Stephanie planned out an entire fantasy wedding when she was a kid, from the flowers, to the bridesmaid dresses, all the way to the desserts. A page in the diary is dedicated to planning out whom exactly she would be getting married to in this dream wedding. Names are still regularly added and scratched out. Whose names have made the list?

- Duke’s family was big into scrapbooking. Like, a scrapbook dedicated to every little league game his team ever won sort of big. He was appalled upon realizing there’s not one scrapbook in the entirety of the manor. What pictures make the first page of Duke’s new Wayne family scrapbook?

- Dick likes making lists that he never writes down but always remembers. One of these mental lists include the only three celebrities that he would approach in public without hesitation. Who are these three celebrities and what would he ask them?

- Bruce somehow comes into possession of 16 disposable cameras. With no use for them, he was going to get rid of them before having a better idea. Over the next couple of months, he concocts a super elaborate scavenger hunt for each of the kids, which they will document with a disposable camera. The kids start finding their clues. Alfred thinks the idea was good but the execution may have been a little, um, dangerous? Where did Bruce send the kids on their scavenger hunts?

- Cass gets a new apartment that she insists on decorating by herself. Despite this, she still receives some interesting house-warming gifts from her family. How does Cass decorate her new place? What kind of unsolicited gifts does she receive?

- Barbara is invited to a stuffy, high-society ball because of her connections with the Wayne family and her dad’s being the Commissioner. She finds the female dress code abhorrent. What does she wear to this classy gala to protest?

- Damian cannot skateboard. Jon can. Damian refuses to be bested. He’ll see Jon tomorrow but it’s raining outside and won’t let up before patrol. How does he teach himself in an afternoon trapped inside?

Hope this alleviates some boredom. I look forward to seeing the answers to these pressing questions.

hi! so i’ve noticed fanon tim and canon tim are completely different. i’m planning on writing a fic about the bat family and honestly i’m not even sure what’s canon abt his personality and what isn’t. any tips on how to write him? it’s fine if you don’t want to! just asking because your characterization list of the bat fam was like a gift from God. have a great day!

I could never not want to talk about Tim Drake.

I see what you’re saying and fanon v. canon Tim. In my opinion, this stems from Tim’s being ret-conned, like, all the time. Pre N-52 Tim is different from Rebirth Tim and so on and so forth. Here are some characteristics that are mostly stable throughout canon:

The very basics: Tim is older than Damian and younger than Jason. He became Robin after Jason’s death. He is the son of the wealthy Janet and Jack Drake, who both end up dying with some sort of connections to Batman and Robin. 

Tim has experienced loss in many ways and his actions can become irrational in response (see: his quest to bring back Batman in his solo series, his actions after Kon’s death, etc.)

Tim has a complicated relationship with Stephanie Brown. They sometimes are very good for each other, and in other times can succumb to traditional teenage relationship problems brought on by nontraditional means. (ex. Steph breaking up with Tim because she thought he was cheating. In reality, he was just too focused on hero work/saving a girl)

One of Tim’s flaws is that he very often lies to people close to him or keeps them in the dark about a case he is working on. He can go to extreme measures and sacrifice relationships to stop villains. 

A little paradox in writing Tim is that it’s canon that he is extremely important to the timeline, yet that whole story line was based on his literally not being in the comics because everyone thought he was dead. 

Tim has sacrificed his education for heroism and a lot of his personal life. There’s a growing blur between Tim the civilian and Tim the hero.

Tim and Damian’s relationship is often exaggerated in fanon works, but it is canon that they can fight. Damian is typically the instigator but Tim is not innocent in any way. To be honest, in what I’ve read they’re not typically involved in the same storylines. In one timeline, Tim is forced to defeat Damian after the former goes off the rails as the new Batman.

In general, Tim is:

Good at hiding things, including his own emotions

Extremely intelligent, tech-savvy

Loyal, but can stand up to and defy Batman when he believes Bruce is wrong

All in all, just very passionate in everything he does

aight, i need to know the batfam's ages... i have been searching for hours and every single page i found legit gave me a stroke because of how complex they were...

Ah, the age-old question. Or perhaps the old age question? …Never mind.

If we think ~logically~ the batfamily time line could go a little something like this:

When Bruce is 10, Alfred is 40.

When Bruce is 25, Alfred is 55, Dick is 10, Barbara is 12.

When Bruce is 32, Alfred is 62, Dick is 17, Barbara is 19, and Jason is 12.

When Bruce is 35, Alfred is 65, Dick is 20, Barbara is 22, Jason (technically dead) is 15, and Tim is 13.

When Bruce is 39, Alfred is 69, Dick is 24, Barbara is 26, Jason (now undead) is 19, Stephanie is 17, and Tim is 16.

When Bruce is 40, Alfred is 70, Dick is 25, Barbara is 27, Cassandra is 20-21, Jason is 20, Stephanie is 18, Tim is 17, and Damian is 12.

When Bruce is 42, Alfred is 72, Dick is 27, Barbara is 29, Cassandra is 22-23, Jason is 22, Stephanie is 20, Tim is 19, Duke is 17, and Damian is 14.

Phew. Okay hope that’s not totally confusing, but to me it’s a timeline that make a lot more sense than the one DC wants us to believe, with Bruce’s being always 35-40 and Dick being 30.
