AU where Eddie cracks his head off the ground and temporarily gets mind reading powers. He goes to school the next day thinking that this might actually be fun, and it is for a while.
And then he hears bloodcurdling screaming - except only he hears it so, “That’s in someone’s head?”
He follows the sound out down the hall, pass his own classroom. The screaming getting louder and louder until, “Steve Harrington?”
“Yeah?” Steve blinks back into reality in the back of his history class. The screaming dims but doesn’t go away. Steve’s still got those bruises on his face but otherwise doesn’t look distressed, “…You want something, Munson?”
“Um…um, no,” He says. “I - no. Nothing.”
Steve narrows his eyes and a whisper of a voice just under the screaming thinks Eddie is fucking with him.
Eddie barely acknowledges it because he’s stuck on how Steve looks normal. Not anguished. Not tortured. But normal. Bored.
“Well, uh. Well, I’ll see you around, Harrington.”
And Eddie means that too.

Here’s the thing about natural—or unnatural, as it were—disasters.
Regular social norms go right out the fucking window.
In Tommy’s case, all it took was to see one news report, highlighting the burning husk of Starcourt, for him to turn to his girlfriend and ask “Do you think…?”
He didn’t bother to finish his sentence.
Didn’t need too—Carol immediately and instantly knew what he was on about.
They were in Tommy’s house, but that didn’t matter. Carol went right for the phone like she owned it (or like she’d been practically raised in said house given she’d known Tommy since he was seven, which meant she might as well own it.)
“He’s not answering.” She reported after a tense moment,
Tommy bit his lip.
“Think he’s still messing around with Wheeler enough to be at her house right now?” He asked, but it was a hail mary and they both knew it.
Carol rewarded his stupidity with a flat stare. “He’s not dating anyone right now, he’s person non grata with that hideous uniform.”
And for other reasons, not that either of them bothered to voice it all.
Tommy opened his mouth again, no doubt to ask something else idiotic in his growing panic, but was stopped by a finger held loftily in the air.
Carol expertly dialed with her other hand, before once again returning the phone to her ear.
This time she got someone.
“Hi Miss Maple, is Mindy home?”
A pause, and then a rapid-fire back and forth took place, in which Carol:
Assured Miss Maple she was not at the mall.
Was happy to know Mindy was also not at the mall.
Made an appropriate gasping noise upon finding out Mindy had left only an hour before the mall had caught fire and could she talk to Mindy? Pretty please? This is so scary!
--Until Carol was finally connected to Mindy herself.
“No, I'm glad you’re safe.” Carol was saying, after another exchange that to Tommy, felt like some kind of over-complicated girl language where they both made soft reassuring noises until they finally got down to business.
Which in this case, was asking if Mindy saw Steve Harrington, their wayward third, at the mall.
“He was there.” Carol confirmed a scant few minutes later, frown slashing across her face as she hung up the phone. “She said he had the closing shift.”
Tommy panicked harder.
“What do we do?”
Carol, bless her, gave him the easiest answer in the world.
With steel in her eyes, she calmly determined: “We go get him.”
They did.
xXx
Steve was not at the mall.
One of his obnoxious children was however, and insisted Steve was both fine and had gone home.
(As if anyone was ever fine after escaping out of a burning building.)
Lucky for Carol’s temper and Steve both, that proved to be true.
“Hello Steven.” Carol greeted the second one of the Harrington’s double doors swung open. “You look like shit.”
“‘Ro?” Steve asked in blatantly disbelief, squinting at her.
Give how fucked up one of his eyes was, Carol wouldn’t be surprised if he honestly could’t make her out.
Steve’s messed up face moved to the left with another blatant squint before he warbled out: “‘Tommy?”
“Yes, yes, it’s us. Move over.” She flicked her hands into a “shoo” gesture, as Steve dutifully stepped back, allowing them in.
“What are you doing here?” He asked, somehow managing to sound normal for that one singular line.
Carol beelined right for the cabinet with the medkit, while Tommy went for the fridge.
“Taking care of you, idiot. How the hell did you get a black eye in a mall fire?”
Or choke marks, or any of his other wounds she’d taken in at first glance, none of which looked to be a burn.
It took a long, long moment for her to get an answer, during which Steve had trailed them both to his kitchen, confused but not fighting their presence.
“Part of the building collapsed. I--there was--” He struggled for a moment, looking lost in his own kitchen. “A lot happened.”
“No shit.” Tommy snorted, wrapping a  hand towel around an ice pack before dutifully handing it to Steve.
“Put that on your eye.” He muttered, when all he got was a blank stare back.
“Oh.” Steve stared at him, without moving. “Thanks.”
With another loud snort, Tommy shoved it in his hands, then forced Steve to actually put it against his eye.
An interaction that did not bode well for the state of Steve’s head.
“Take that disgusting shirt off.” Carol commanded a few seconds later as she finished laying out medical supplies on the counter. Lined them up like little soldiers gearing up to ship out.
Bandages, neosporin, alcohol wipes and various other little bits and bobs weren’t going to fix whatever the hell happened to Steve, but given his aversion to hospitals, Carol knew this was as good as she was getting.
“Buy me dinner first, jeez.” Steve grumbled, but thankfully, complied.
Or tried too, anyway--he seemed to be reluctant to take the ice pack off his eye now that he figured out that's where it should go, and equally seemed to be having issues raising his arms above his shoulders.
Carol sent a pointed look at her boyfriend, then jerked her eyes in Steve’s direction when the idiot just stared at her.
“Let me help you.” Tommy said a moment later, right before Carol decided to throw something at him.
It took them both a minute, during which Carol rolled her eyes twice at their incompetence, but eventually they managed to get Steve’s busted torso out in open air, and the ice pack firmly back on his eye.
Carol turned to survey the damage, and nearly dropped the bandages she was holding in shock.
Tommy too seemed at a loss for words, eyes wide at the sheer amount of bruising.
Steve was a mess.
More than, a mess--this was the worst state Carol had ever seen anyone in, and the fact that he was on his feet still was a fucking miracle.
‘Staring won’t fix it.’ Carol told herself harshly, and she knew damn well Steve wasn’t going to fix it either unless someone forced him.
Hence of course, why they were there.
“Steven Harrington, did you run from the paramedics?” She demanded, as she finally picked her first weapon (a disinfectant wipe) and strode over to begin her battle. “There is no way they let you go looking like this!”
“They had other priorities.” Steve said defensively, then hissed as Carol got to work.
“You should have been one of said priorities, idiot!”
Tommy thankfully, had decided to make himself useful by retreating to the other side of the kitchen and pulling various items out of the fridge and pantry.
Inbetween her runs for more supplies and hissing insults at how fucking stupid Steve was, Carol identified the makings of grilled cheese sandwiches--their little groups go to favorite.
Which was good, because it both got him out of the way and meant they could get something in Steve’s stomach before she forced every pain pill she had down his throat.
“I’m fine guys, really.” Steve protested, as if constantly repeating it would somehow make his words true.
Carol stared deep into his watery eyes, before jabbing a finger into the center of the largest bruise on his side.
“Carol!” He howled, bending double and away, panting harshly.
“That,” She informed him with a pitiless stare, “was for lying.”
Thankfully the damage wasn’t as bad as she first thought--it seemed to be mostly just bruises.
Possibly a cracked rib or two, at worst.
The worst of it was Steve’s eye, and of course, his head, because there was no way he didn’t have a concussion amongst all this.
(Only time would tell how bad it was.)
When Steve was as doctored up as Carol could make him, she promptly turned and frog marched him to his parents' overstuffed couch.
“Sit and stay sitting, while I clean up.” She ordered, not waiting to see if Steve would obey.
She passed Tommy on her way back to the kitchen, a plate piled high with food in his hands.
“Make sure he takes at least a few bites.” She added, low enough so only he heard.
He nodded, and for the first time since the three of them had fallen out, Carol felt something in her finally relax.
Figured it was likely the same for the boys, given their dynamic had always been something one step away from a normal friendship.
(it wasn’t the relationship her mother had once accused her of having, though granted, they had tested those waters once, but something that sat in between ‘family’ and ‘mutual ownership.’
Losing Steve had carved something hollow in her and Tommy both. She’d put on a good show of not caring. Pretended it hadn’t cut deep.
Getting even a taste of it like she was?
Carol wasn’t letting him go again.)
Cleaning up took a minute, long enough hopefully, for the pain meds to kick in, and she didn’t feel too guilty when she came back into the living room and collapsed on the couch, next to Steve (and thus putting him in the middle, between herself and Tommy.)
He didn’t say anything at first, just leaned into her the second she sat down, like he’d been waiting for her to return. There was a pause, like he was bracing to be pushed off, but when she scooted closer, the tension left him in a silent exhale.
“I missed you.” He whined softly into her shoulder.
She ran her nails through his hair, silently bemoaning the state of it. “We missed you too, Stevie.”
“I want to be friends again but,” Steve sighed, and Carol watched Tommy tense, staring at Steve with such intensity one would think Steve was about to announce whether Tommy would live or die.
(Honestly, her boys were so stupid sometimes.)
“We can't be mean anymore.” Steve finished. “Not me—but also not, not you guys.”
With an (unfortunately) adorable wrinkle of his nose, he added, “We were too mean.”
Carol rolled her eyes, but only when she was certain Steve was paying more attention to her sweater than her face.
“Compromise. I’ll only be openly mean to people who deserve it.” She countered, as Tommy finally relaxed.
“I can be nicer.” He agreed, slowly sinking down into Steve’s other side.
“Way less mean. No--no more pranks or insults.” Steve continued.
Carol nodded. “Not in public.” She agreed.
She was not giving up her own personality in private, thank you very much. If that made her an asshole that was fine--it wasn’t like she hadn't been told she was nasty before this.
“And I’m friends with Robin now. So you hav’ to be friends with her too.”
“Buckley?” Carol made another face, and knew she fucked up when Steve instantly tried to sit up.
“Robin Buckley. She’s really cool, and--” He started, with that kind of stubbornness Carol knew all too well meant he’d made up his mind and would refuse to change it.
“Fine, fine!” She said quickly, though not without an eye roll. “You have got to stop adopting weirdos though. The kids are enough.”
Steve slowly laid back down.
“You know about the kids?”
“Steve Harrington, town babysitter?” Tommy said, something teasing threading through his voice. “Everybody knows, man. You give so many rides home your beamer has gained several bus themed nicknames.”
“Huh. I hadn’t noticed.”
“Of course you didn’t.” Carol snorted, before laying her cheek atop Steve’s head. Tommy cuddled up close to his other side, the same way they all used to before their parents started insisting their cuddle piles were “inappropriate.”
(That hadn’t stopped them. Nothing had stopped them, until Steve had a crisis of consciousness while dating Wheeler.
It was only half the reason Carol wanted to put her head through a wall.)
“That’s what you have me for.” She informed him.
“Yeah.” Carol could feel Steve’s smile, gentle and radiant as always. “Guess I do.”
A nice, perfect moment followed, the one she knew both her and Tommy had been craving.
Steve, of course, was a creature who required constant reassurance because his awful, neglecting parents never provided any, and she was prepared when he fought against both his pain and sleep to seek it.
“You guys promise to be nice to Robin? And Nancy, and Jonathan?” He asked it quietly, like he wasn’t sure what they'd do if they said no.
“Oh God,” Tommy moaned, “I have to be nice to Byers?”
Steve stiffened once again, snapping out; “Yes--”
“We promise, Steve.” Carol interrupted before Tommy’s giant fat mouth could ruin things.
She moved a hand down to rub gently at his neck, a soothing gesture.
Tommy, of course, wasn’t done, because Tommy was a moron. “Wasn’t he the guy Wheeler cheated on you with?”
“We said we promise.” Carol repeated, steel in her voice.
Tommy met her eyes over Steve’s head, and was greeted with the steel core of his girlfriend’s ‘do as I say or die’ personality.
“Fine.” Tommy conceded with a pout. “I’ll be nice to fucking Byers.”
 In a mutter he added;
“Not happy about it though.”
“That’s okay.” Steve mumbled back, seeming to have finally tired himself out.
“Go to sleep, Steve. We’ll be here in the morning.” Carol told him.
It was a longstanding fear of Steve’s--that people just left in the night without saying goodbye.
(Likely because his parents kept doing it.)
It didn’t take long, Steve was the kind of guy who fell asleep quickly.
It was a nice mend to the hole Steve’s departure in her life had made. Carol hadn’t truly been looking forward to living her life without him.
She’d get him back however she could.
Even if it meant being nice.
(Carol hated being nice, but she’d do it, for Steve.
Well. Less for Steve and more to complete the Tommy-Steve-Carol super trio that Carol had lived most of her life in, at least, but she wasn’t stupid enough to say that out loud.
Not now, anyway.)
xXx
Close to a year later, Carol stood with her arms crossed, staring coolly at one Edward Munson, drug dealer extraordinaire and former (even if he was cleared) criminal.
He grinned at her, the jerk.
With a supernatural slowness, she turned her gaze to Steve.
“I swear to God Steve you better housebreak him before you bring him anywhere near me.” She said, loud and clear.
Hadn’t she warned him about adopting more weirdos!?
Steve winced.
“Come on ‘Ro, you promised not to be mean.” He wheedled.
“I promised to not be mean to people who didn’t deserve it.” She shot back, as Tommy, wisely, stayed silent behind her.
(Robin, she noted, was equally quiet on Steve’s other side.
Normally this would raise alarms—Robin was quick to defend people if she thought Carol was being shitty and as a general rule was never quiet, but it would appear in this case she’d already clocked where Carol was taking this.
Smart girl.)
“Eddie doesn’t deserve—” Steve started but she cut him off with a blue tipped nail, shoved right against his lips.
“Not yet he doesn’t. But Munson,” She leveled her glare on him now, and let him feel the weight of it. “If Steve so much as says your name in a sad tone of voice, I will make your life into the kind of hell that Jason Carver can only dream of. Understand?”
Behind her, Tommy cracked his knuckles, which was overkill and she’d get on his ass later for being dramatic, but presently she was too busy letting Munson figure out just how serious she was.
Eddie’s gaze traveled from Carol, to Tommy, Robin, Steve and finally back to Carol in an assessment she frankly, hadn’t thought him capable of.
She pushed him anyway.
“I’m waiting, Munson.”
In a somber tone of voice, Eddie replied; “It’s gotten. Very, very gotten.”
“Okay, I’m lost.” Steve said, because, as always, he was the last person to know he was in love.
Moron.
“Good. As long as we understand each other. Now.” Carol tossed her hair back with a quick snap of her hand. “Milkshakes?”
“Robin--” Steve whined, no doubt wanting her to spell things out since Carol was refusing, but thankfully Buckley also seemed to realize staying quiet was the best course of action, and instead of answering quickly got Steve off track with a jab at his milkshake order.
Which was of course, why Carol liked her.
(She wasn’t about to share that with Robin just yet. Integrating someone into a trio like theirs was delicate business—and she had a sinking feeling Robin might be sticking around, just like Steve and Tommy had.
As for Eddie Munson?
Only time would tell.)

Just reblogged this post about platonic fake dating and it reminded me that I HAD had a platonic fake dating idea I’ll probably never write with Stobin told entirely from Eddie’s pov as a sort of high school years au. Maybe post s2.
I was playing with the idea of some meathead jock or Billy or someone being pushy, or maybe Robin was just being made fun of and harassed for being weird, and Steve steps in and gets them to back off by saying she’s with him. Granted, they’ve never spoken before, Steve is just tired of his former friends being pieces of shit.
Robin is nervous obviously but too shocked to say anything and when they leave Steve immediately turns around and is a girl’s girl and reassures her that he was just trying to help out and idk they keep up the charade and become pretty close friends and she ends up telling Steve her truth of her own volition and they’re the same platonic soulmates as ever and now Steve is super protective and her proud beard and he takes that shit seriously.
Except Eddie doesn’t know this. And it’s told entirely from his pov right? So he just sees The Hair, known playboy, all over a younger girl he clocked as queer immediately. He starts worrying for the obvious lesbian, worried Harrington might be pressuring her into things, especially when Harrington would give Buckley eyes and then they’d disappear to someplace private and return some time later red in the face, maybe even a little sweaty and disheveled, though sometimes Buckley returns looking a little haunted in the eyes and disgusted.
And Eddie is protective of kids othered by society, right? The freaks and the geeks and all the rest. So he starts getting in the way. He starts circling around Stobin, starts trying to chat to Buckley when Harrington is elsewhere, sometimes even when Harrington is there and is leaning in close to murmur in Buckley’s ear and she gives such a fake laugh he doesn’t know how Harrington doesn’t clock it. Or if he doesn’t care.
Except Harrington starts noticing Eddie is circling Buckley more and so Harrington starts being more present by her side, starts throwing his arm around her, making her wear his letterman all the time, and starts sneaking off with her more and more. And Buckley looks more and more disgusted each time they stumble out, red faced, from whatever empty classroom or room at a party Harrington has all but pulled her into.
I then picture like, maybe one such time Eddie overhears Buckley yelling at Harrington to stop, begging him to stop, and Eddie bursts through the door with fire in his eyes and ready to throw himself between them to save her, except…
Buckley is on one side of the room miming throwing up while Harrington is pouting where he lounged on the other, and Eddie realizes that the noises he’d heard wasn’t Robin crying but her laughing. Stobin startles at Eddie’s entrance, freeze, and then Harrington is going red in the face while Buckley just starts cackling and pointing at Eddie.
“That one? Seriously, dingus, that one!?” Buckley gasps around braying laughter, causing Harrington to pout further.
“At least he doesn’t sound like a muppet when he sings,” he grumbles under his breath.
Which…Harrington has heard him sing? And what the hell is going on?
Buckley wipes at her eyes, heaving for gasping breaths. “I can’t do this anymore. I can’t listen to you pining for one for more second, oh my god.” She turns to Eddie then, holding out her hand with a massive grin. “Hi, I’m Robin Buckley, a flaming homosexual, and this is my best friend, platonic soulmate, and ridiculous beard Steve Harrington. Please put me out of my misery.”
Eddie, befuddled, takes her hand, shakes it, and then she’s leaving the room with a shouted “Get your shit together, Harrington!” in parting. Then it’s just Eddie and Harrington.
Who looks extremely embarrassed but he’s also looking at Eddie with a nervous coyness for a moment before he blinks, smirks, and suddenly has that patented ladies killer The Hair look on his face except he’s staring straight at Eddie and not a single lady is present.
Oh.
Anyways, further hijinks ensue as the three of them have to keep their secrets from the kids, not because they think the kids would be bigoted, but because they’re little assholes and Steve has no desire to deal with them.
But yeah. I think Stobin would be messy gossip queens who chat about crushes and after Steve comes out as bi to her she makes it her life’s mission to harass him for liking the Freak just as much as he did her for liking Tammy. However, Eddie knows none of this and it’s just him trying to increasingly protect a fellow queer while Steve just becomes more and more enamored with him.
Which results in Steve pulling Robin away for more gossip sessions where she has to deal with Steve talking about big brown eyes the entire time, much to her disgust.
It’s even worse after they get together and she’s real tempted to out herself just so that she doesn’t have to put up with it anymore.
Thank god Steve graduates and she doesn’t have to listen to him pining about his boyfriend anymore. Except then Eddie is dragging Robin away to pine about Steve and suddenly there’s a rumor going around that she’s dating both former King of the Jocks and King of the Freaks and getting a girlfriend has never been harder.
But hey. At least everyone’s too scared to fuck with her anymore.

hot take:
Eddie doesn't have a thing for biting.
Steve has a thing for being bitten.
This is found out when they're being dorks and wrestling over the TV remote because Eddie will not watch breakfast club again. But quickly learns that unsurprisingly, Steve is stronger than him. He enters feral racoon mode and bites Steve's shoulder.
Steve goes red.
And Eddie has now unlocked a new move to pester Steve with.

Robin panics at the hospital reception when they won't let her in to visit Steve so she yells "I'M HIS SISTER", forgetting that this is still Hawkins and literally everyone knows the Harringtons
But then she remembers how glibly Steve mentioned why his mom accompanies his father on his work trips so she keeps digging her hole deeper "Half-sister! His father cheated with my mother! We found out when we went to school together because he had a crush on me so our parents had to tell us to make sure there wouldn't be any incestuous little Harrington-Buckleys running around Hawkins, well, they wouldn't be Buckleys obviously because-"
They let her in.

Steddie | modern au | famous actor Steve Harrington | 3.4k | ao3
from this post
Eddie can’t stop the laugh that comes out of him because of the video on his screen, Gareth snickering next to him.
“This is great, I have to show this to the others later,” Eddie says. His fingers move automatically, pressing on the send icon and then on the profile at the very top, a move he has done hundreds of times.
“Dude, did you just send that to Steve Harrington?” Gareth asks with a dumbfounded tone.
“Yeah?”
“Why are you acting like that’s normal?”
“Because it is? I just send him the posts I find funny to find them later.”
“You know there is a way to save posts so that they are organized, right?”
“I don’t like it and this is like way easier.”
“It’s literally not,” Gareth says, but Eddie doesn’t pay attention to him or stop.
“Look,” he goes to the front page, slides to the dms and opens the conversation with Steve Harrington, always at the top. “It’s just right there.” He starts scrolling up to show him the long string of unanswered memes and videos, but Gareth interrupts him.
“Wait, wait. Scroll back down, what the fuck is that? Does he read your messages?” He is pointing to the little icon with Harrington’s profile picture just above the last video he’s sent. Eddie shrugs.
“It’s probably a bored media guy enjoying some memes on the clock or making sure I’m not a weirdo, it’s not like Steve Harrington actually uses this account.”
“You are a weirdo, I’m surprised you are not blocked yet.”
-
Eddie is on his phone, passing the time as he keeps an eye on the lonely customer currently looking through the new vinyls. It’s a routine, a mindless action as he saves another post to show the guys later, preferring to see their reactions in person. Nothing ever happens, that’s why he gets surprised to the point of sitting up when a notification appears on his screen.
Steve.hrrgtn: Dude, you just made me laugh in the middle of a table reading
Eddie freezes as the notification disappears. Did he see that right? He couldn’t have seen that right.
He goes to his dms and surely, there at the top, is a message from THE Steve Harrington, or at least from his account. A table reading. It has to be him, right? Not an intern or a media guy. The one and only.
Eddie sends a look to the customer, still engrossed in the new releases. He is tempted to call her so she can check if the message is real or an hallucination provoked by his boredom. When he looks down, the message is still there. It is also still there when he opens the conversation. His fingers hover over screen.
He can picture him, sitting around a long table with his castmates, hiding his phone like a student in class but unable to keep his laugh in.
The vision is a bit surreal. He made Steve Harrington laugh.
Batking: why are you looking at your phone in the middle of a table reading
Steve.hrrgtn: new season boring af
It’s Eddie the one that can’t keep his laugh in this time. The girl sends him a look, but he doesn’t care.
Batking: should you be telling me that?
Steve.hrrgtn: I don’t even care at this point tbh
Batking: you are the one that signed the contract my guy
Steve.hrrgtn: I didn’t
Steve.hrrgtn: Never let your parents sign you into a multi season show when you are fifteen
Batking: I’ll keep that in mind for my next life
Batking: Sorry your parents made you a millionaire and famous
Steve.hrrgtn: 💀💀💀
Steve.hrrgtn: but really, at the time I thought hey it’s only a contract for five seasons for a teen drama, how bad could it be?
Steve.hrrgtn: now here I am, almost ten years later, listening to the worst script you have heard in your life
Batking: that does sound awful
Batking: you are making me happy that my folks are not in the picture
Is Eddie about to vent about his life to Steve fucking Harrington? It seems like it.
In the end, he doesn’t, because Harrington doesn’t answer to his message, probably swept away into actually working, or maybe he realised how weird it was that he was talking so casually to a guy he didn’t know.
Eddie doesn’t have time to wallow on it too much, because the girl comes to the counter with a vinyl and a question. The interaction with the famous actor moving to a part of Eddie’s brain normally reserved to daydreams.
-
Eddie thought that his interaction with Steve Harrington would be a one time thing, the guy looking at his phone because he was too bored and answering his message because, by some kind of cosmic coincidence, Eddie had happened to send it at the perfect moment. Just an impulsive action that he had regretted later. That’s why he is surprised when he gets a new notification after sending him the worst kind of shitpost ever, the ones that the algorithm feeds him at 2am – the current time – and send him in a fit of giggles with their complete absurdity.
Steve.hrrgtn: where do you even find these things
Batking: you are just jealous my algorithm is better than yours
Steve.hrrgtn: yeah everyday I dream about my instagram showing me a pig made with a sausage and sticks surfing some rotating meat skewers
Batking: It made you laugh though
Steve.hrrgtn: …..
Steve.hrrgtn: It did
Eddie lets out a short, disbelieving snort. It’s a bit crazy, knowing that somewhere out there a famous heartthrob is looking at his messages at 2am and laughing.
Unless this is the media guy.
Eddie prefers to believe that he is so funny he made a guy with millions of followers want to talk to him. Twice.
Batking: why are you awake at this hour anyway
Batking: shouldnt you be getting your beauty sleep
Steve.hrrgtn: we start filming the new season tomorrow
Steve.hrrgtn: today?
Steve.hrrgtn: and I can’t sleep
Batking: nightmares about the boring script
Batking: I see
Steve.hrrgtn: you could say that
Batking: well, check this out, your nightmares will go away
He sends another stupid meme (of the best kind, the ones from accounts that write in Cyrillic) and receives a set of skull emojis in answer.
-
Steve.hrrgtn: why have you stopped sending me memes
The message takes Eddie by surprise. It’s been a week since he texted with Steve Harrington for the second time – which still feels a bit surreal-, and he had decided to stop bothering the poor guy now that he knew he saw his messages. Going to his saved posts was still a nightmare, but Eddie knew how to behave.
Batking: didnt want to bother you now that you are working and I know you see them
Steve.hrrgtn: they have been my main entertainment for months you can’t just stop now when I need them most
Eddie blinks at the message. Months? The confirmation stuns him. The one that had been seeing his messages had always been him and not some media guy? Eddie remembers catching his name a few times on his Instagram stories. This is a bit trippy, if he is honest.
Batking: okay
Batking: as my liege commands
Batking: from now on I am your knight in shining armour your sole provider of memes
-
Batking: *reel attached*
Batking: did you kill the villain today?
Steve.hrrgtn: This is a teen drama???
-
Batking: *reel attached*
Batking: so, is the bad guy dead yet?
Steve.hrrgtn: Again???
Steve.hrrgtn: I told you like a thousand times that there is no bad guy to kill
Steve.hrrgtn: have you even watched my show?
Batking: I mean the scriptwriter
Steve.hrrgtn: lmao
Steve.hrrgtn: no, he is sadly not dead yet
Steve.hrrgtn: I think killing him would be a breach of my contract somehow
Batking: a pity
Batking: the way he insists on making your character straight? He deserves death.
Batking: don’t worry joe from normal life, I saw the way you looked at dacre, I know what you are
Steve.hrrgtn: I think that might have just been the way I was looking at Billy, the guy’s fucking hot
Steve.hrrgtn: an asshole though, glad he is not on the show anymore
Eddie pauses, his eyes reading the last two messages time and time again. Did Steve Harrington, heartthrob and ladies man, just admit to being attracted to a male coworker? Eddie’s thumbs hover over the keyboard. He looks up at Gareth from his place in their couch. He is not paying attention to him, too focused on his laptop.
Eddie is having a bit of a crisis here and his roommate is ignoring him. Maybe it’s best that he is, Eddie doesn’t really want to share this with anyone. Should he bring attention to it? Should he just ignore it and brush it off? The decision is not that difficult in the end. He needs to know. He knows that there is no way he has any possibility of actually bagging Steve Harrington. Exchanging messages and memes is one thing, a pseudo friendship is one thing, but something more? Not fucking likely.
He still needs to know.
Batking: did I just get exclusive confirmation that Steve Harrington likes men? Should I call tmz?
Steve.hrrgtn: you wouldn’t get any money
Steve.hrrgtn: I’ve been out as bisexual for years, the media just chooses to ignore it
Steve.hrrgtn: wow look at these pictures of Steve Harrington with his new male best friend that he goes to dinner and all premieres with! Totally platonic! Oh now they have stopped hanging out completely? What could have happened to their friendship?
Steve.hrrgtn: he cheated on me, that’s what happened
Eddie blinks at his screen. So, he had tried to avoid learning anything about Steve that the man didn’t tell him himself. Just a chivalrous, treat the guy like a normal person gesture, but now he is wondering if he should have paid a bit more attention.
Batking: ah yes, the joys of compulsory heterosexuality and conformity
Batking: that sucks, dude
Steve.hrrgtn: did you really not know anything about it?
Batking: sorry to burst your celebrity bubble where everyone knows everything about your life
Steve.hrrgtn: no no, it’s… nice
Steve.hrrgtn: I have a question though
Steve.hrrgtn: why did you start sending me memes if you were not really interested in me?
Batking: well
Batking: I needed someone very famous that wasnt likely to really see my messages and seemed chill enough to not block me immediately
Batking: and dude, you are like waaay more famous than the show you are in, it’s ridiculous, thought you must be a douche for a long time
Batking: but an interview with you and your friend Robin showed up on my fyp and I saw that you were pretty chill
Batking: so it was between you and Timothee Chalamet
Batking: and it ended up being you because you are hotter
Steve.hrrgtn: of course I am
Steve.hrrgtn: thank you for choosing me tho
Batking: anyone would have
Steve.hrrgtn: the casting director of a complete unknown didn’t think the same
Batking: well thats THEIR loss
Batking: you do a great job with the shitty script of normal life
Batking: you would have acted the fuck out of bob dylan
Steve.hrrgtn: I do a better job in my other stuff
Batking: you have other stuff??
Batking: I’m going to be honest with you here, I only watched normal life so I had context to bitch about the boring new season with you
Eddie looks at the three little dots that indicate that Steve is writing appear a disappear a few times. Did he fuck up? Maybe he sounded too eager, maybe Steve thought it was a bit weird that Eddie assumed they would continue talking. But they have been talking for weeks now. Was it bad to assume?
Eddie closes the app, deciding to give the guy some privacy to write down what he wants to write down and heads to the kitchen to prepare his dinner. If Gareth senses the way his mood has soured, he doesn’t say anything about it.
It takes a couple of hours for an answer to appear. It’s simple.
Steve.hrrgtn: that’s nice of you
-
It’s Steve the one that starts the conversation a couple of days after that. Eddie only sees his messages an hour after he sends them, too busy with customers. The group of notifications on his screen when he is finally able to look at his phone very welcome.
Steve.hrrgtn: so I just realised
Steve.hrrgtn: well, my best friend made me realise
Steve.hrrgtn: she basically said that it’s weird that I’ve been talking with you for weeks and don’t know anything about your actual life and that you could actually be a stalker with a lot of patience or something like that
Steve.hrrgtn: so tell me about yourself? You are not living like down the street from me and waiting for the right moment to kidnap me like Robin says are you?
Eddie tries not to feel giddy at the thought of Steve talking about him to his friends. He has not done it himself, mostly because he tried once and they made fun of his ‘delusions’ as they called it. Whatever. He doesn’t really expect Steve to still be online, probably already swept out to his own job, so he just sends his answer.
Batking: a very reasonable fear, some facts to follow
Batking: I live as far from you as you live from Chicago
Batking: I am a humble employee at a record store where I have to deal with pretentious assholes daily that don’t really care about music and just about bragging about their record collection
Batking: I also have a band with my friends
Batking: we have a whooping 1756 listeners on spotify
Batking: I know, I know, you didn’t know you were talking with a rockstar try not to be very starstruck
The answer, to his surprise, comes almost immediately.
Steve.hrrgtn: 1757
Batking: what?
Steve.hrrgtn: what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t listen to your band now that I know it exists?
Eddie would be lying if he said that that didn’t make his heart skip a beat. Is this healthy? Probably not. Is he developing a weird parasocial relationship with the guy? Probably yes, but is it even a parasocial relationship if he is actually talking with the guy and he called him his friend? This should be considered a normal crush, a normal, hopeless crush.
Batking: a very shitty one tbh here’s the link
Steve.hrrgtn: can I ask something else?
Batking: course
Steve.hrrgtn: you only have one pic in your profile and it’s with your friends
Steve.hrrgtn: which one are you?
Eddie taps the back of his phone a few times. It’s only natural that Steve would wonder that. He could just tell him, or… Eddie opens the camera and takes a picture, too close to see his face properly but enough that Steve will know who he is in the group picture now.
Batking: *picture attached*
Batking: this one
Steve.hrrgtn: fuck
-
Steve.hrrgtn: okay so the thought of you only seeing me in normal life is eating me alive
The notification comes when Eddie is with his friends, preparing for a night of DnD. Eddie was looking up some music to get the atmosphere going, but the music app immediately gets abandoned in lieu of the message.
Batking: can’t get me out of your head?
He knows he has been unable to keep the stupid smile out of his face when Jeff tries to glance at his screen. Eddie immediately slams the phone against his chest.
“Jeez, I thought you were looking at stupid memes again, who are you texting that got you smiling like that?” Jeff asks. He moves back to sit straight, so Eddie can look at his phone again.
“No one,” he says as he reads the new message.
Steve.hrrgtn: so I have a couple of indie films that are very good
So Steve has decided to ignore his message. Okay.
“He’s been like this for WEEKS now,” Gareth intervenes as he sits down at his spot. “He said it was Steve Harrington when I asked him when he started and has refused to say anything else.”
“The white boy of the month?” Jeff asks.
“White boy of the century,” Eddie feels the need to correct.
Batking: that’s great and all but I can’t watch your limited release indie films anywhere
Steve.hrrgtn: that’s why I’m sharing a link to the latest one with you
Steve.hrrgtn: don’t share it with anyone though
Batking: aw breaking the rules for little ol me?
Steve.hrrgtn: yeah yeah don’t get too cocky now
Steve.hrrgtn: can’t wait for your reaction 😉
Eddie stares at the winking emoji in confusion. What is that supposed to mean?
“Can you stop texting your white boy of the century now so we can start?” Gareth asks.
“Just a second.” Eddie sends a quick message back before he moves to the music app again, chooses the first song he sees and puts the phone down.
Batking: send it to me, soldier, I will watch it tonight and give you my honest opinion
-
Eddie stares at the screen of his laptop, currently on his thighs as he was lounging on his bed, seeing the film Steve had sent to him. The film is currently paused, Steve’s face staring at him with eyes and mouth half open.
Okay, so Eddie just watched his famous guy turned friend have an orgasm – fake! Fake an orgasm, Eddie feels it’s very important that he makes that clear to himself – on screen after probably the most erotic sex scene he has seen in a non porno in the last 10 years. Fuck. How did he not know about the existence of this? How did this not make the news? Probably because it was with another man. Double fuck.
Maybe this is normal for Steve, for actors in general, to send their friends a link to a film where you have a soul shattering orgasm with a message about wanting to know their reaction with a winking emoji. It is not normal for Eddie. It is also not normal for his dick, who has not gotten the memo about this not being something it should be getting so excited about.
Eddie bites his lip. His finger moves on its own, backing the film a few minutes so the scene plays again. Eddie tries to convince himself that this is not weird if Steve was the one that wanted him to see this in the first place.
Eddie curses and takes a deep breath. He eyes his phone. It’s late, nearly midnight, but he knows that Steve is normally away at this hour.
Maybe this is not normal for Steve either, maybe he did want to get some kind of reaction out of Eddie.
Eddie snaps a picture of his laptop screen, careful to get the tent in his pants just in the edge of the picture. It’s very obvious on it what scene he is watching.
Batking: *picture attached*
Batking: you sure know how to get a guy hot and bothered
Maybe he can play it off as a joke if Steve didn’t mean it like Eddie wants him to mean it.
Steve.hrrgtn: glad to see my acting is that good
Fuck, Eddie fucked it up, right?
Steve.hrrgtn: it did come out very natural
Steve.hrrgtn: but the real thing looks better
Eddie feels on the edge of a precipice, as if there should be a warning on his field of vision about how his choice here will change the trajectory of his story.
Batking: can’t say
Batking: I haven’t seen the real thing, so I can’t really compare them, can I?
Steve.hrrgtn: would you want to?
Eddie can’t get his hopes up, he can’t assume, Steve is so out of his league, this can’t be happening to him.
Batking: have you acted in a porno I don’t know about?
Steve.hrrgtn: are you always this dense?
Eddie’s heart is dying in his chest, that’s the only explanation to how it’s feeling.
He doesn’t have time to type an answer, Eddie’s screen is suddenly filled with something else.
Steve Harrington is video calling him.
Eddie has never accepted a call so fast in his life before.
part 2...???

this is literally just the plot of boots & budweiser’s miraculous misadventures by helix_stomper on ao3
for ppl that don't already know it, here's summary and tags for the first fic in this series bc i just love it all so much, highly recommend!!
Relationships: Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson
Characters: Steve Harrington, Eddie Munson
Additional Tags: Plot What Plot/Porn Without Plot, Glory Hole, Anonymous Sex, First Time Blow Jobs, Public Blow Jobs, Hand Jobs, Finger Sucking, Oral Fixation, Dom/sub Undertones, Steve Harrington Has a Praise Kink, Eddie Munson Has a Big Dick, Praise Kink, Pet Names, Coming In Pants, Steve Harrington Has a Bisexual Awakening, not beta'd we die like billy, POV Alternating, Mostly Steve-Centric, Boot Humping
Steve wasn’t really all that surprised to find himself here.
He had never seen a gloryhole before. He’d chalked them up to a horny teenager’s pot at the end of the rainbow. Fantasy, and nothing else. A fat old man couldn’t squeeze down a chimney, and a guy couldn’t get his dick sucked in a public bathroom. But here it was, a small circular hole cut into the side of two adjacent stalls, as real and as terrifying as it could be.
What surprised Steve about tonight was that he wasn't sticking his dick through the hole. Instead, he found himself sitting on his heels in front of it, hands wringing anxiously in his lap as he licked his lips and waited for someone to shuffle into the other stall.
i love you girl. put on that budweiser hat i really like.. i will be down in 5 minutes

yanking this out of its safe little hiding place in op's tags
Tumblr media
A continuation of this post I made
I imagine Steve genuinely doesn’t think about Eddie, like at all. Besides the occasional “what is he yelling about in that table” or “ Munson actually showed up to class” or once in sophomore year he thinks “how much does Munson charge for an ounce of weed? Would he take a $50 for an ounce” which causes Eddie to wait around all day at the picnic table wishing for some shmuck to offer $50 for just an ounce, but no one shows up (Steve had to go pick up Dustin after school and didn’t want him to find weed the weed when he inevitably starts going through Steve’s car)
The lack of soulmate thoughts really irks Eddie, because he knows his soulmate is in Hawkins, but he never thinks about Eddie, like at all??? Positively or negatively?? Eddie jumps on more tables, he blares loud music from his van, he is in a band, he is the drug dealer for all the teens in Hawkins and all his soulmate thinks is “why the fuck did Munson double park his van, I’m going to be late looking for a parking spot now” it absolutely drives him crazy.
He eventually figures out his soulmate must be a jock of some kind because one day he hears “what is Munson doing under the bleachers?” when some sports team is let out of playing with balls practice. He is briefly heartbroken his soulmate isn’t a nerd like him, but then spends the night thinking about how a certain fluffy haired jock could play with his balls anytime.
Steve isn’t not thinking about Eddie on purpose, but they just don’t run in the same circles, so he doesn’t really think about him too much, just in a genuine, “I don’t know them, don’t interact with them, so I don’t really think about them” sort of way. Especially after befriending the kids, Steve’s focus goes to keeping them safe and being a babysitter instead of finding his soulmate.
Steve’s experience with his soulmates thoughts is completely different. Starting in middle school he heard his soulmate think he was cute which he thought was nice. As he got older his soulmate would still think he was cute, but also handsome or pretty which, he doesn’t know any girls who call their boyfriends pretty but ya know, he can roll with that. He thinks he will have to roll with a lot of stuff, since hai soulmate seems to into a…a lot of interesting things, to say the least. Steve has dated a lot of girls but none of them seemed to want to rub their face in his chest hair like his soulmate did, who also wonder is Steve was that hairy everywhere which- he was but he didn’t think a girl would want to know about that.
He would be in the middle of a basket ball game and he hit with a 15 minute monologue about how wonderful his ass looked in “thise little green shirts that ride up his ass in the best way” and how his soulmate “wanted to be those shorts” causing Steve to miss three different shots. Also with all this wildly kinky stuff and even general sex things Steve has never heard of or thought about he figures he should become more knowledgeable to better be prepared for his soulmate.
One day when Steve is cleaning up a drink he spilled in the cafeteria and heard “god Harrington looks good on his knees, bet he would look even better with my cock in his mouth” figures chances are his soulmate isn’t a girl at all.
With not much else to loose and a new door opened up to him, Steve starts spending time thinking equally horny thinvs about different guys he sees in class, just to see if they will react to what he is thinking. This is how he figures out Eddie is his soulmate.
Steve notices eddies table is getting a little rowdy, as is always does before Eddie gets up on someone’s table and he rants about jocks and preppy girls while stepping on people’s lunches, Steve thinks “what if comes over here, spits in my stretched out hole, and fucks me right next to Heathers Halloways tuna sandwich”
Eddie, whose soulmate didn’t even think about Eddie that one time his car got spray painted a fit was all the school talked about for a week, was NOT expecting that at 12:30 on a Tuesday and promptly trips on a chair and slams face first into the lunch table, breaking his nose.
Eddies friends rush him to the nurse and Steve is torn between this being a sign Eddie is soulmate or Eddie just clumsy, Steve has seen him walk into a door twice, so he don’t 100% sure. Steve decided to test this anytime he has a clear viewpoint of Eddie and starts thinking the most horny, kinky things possibly about Eddie to see if Eddie reacts proves he is Steve’s soulmate (also revenge because Steve had to go through years of Eddie horny pondering interrupting Steve during important tasks games or tests so Steve figures he should pay that forward during eddies dungeons and dorks games)

Steve spends the summer after they defeat Vecna teaching El how to make noise
It starts one day in his kitchen, when she catches him whistling. Brows furrowed as she tries to copy him, she asks him how to do it. For a minute, Steve is surprised; what kid doesn't know how to whistle? And then he remembers - El hadn't gotten to have a childhood. Not really. He thinks about all the normal kid stuff she was denied, and his chest aches just a little. He forgets whatever he'd been doing and spends the whole afternoon teaching her how to whistle
Once she has a pretty good grasp on whistling, he asks if she wants to learn how to do it really loud, and teaches her how to whistle with her fingers
Showing her how to snap her fingers is easy, and after she masters that, he shows her how to make a popping noise with her fingers tucked under her chin
He spends one afternoon showing her how to make a hooting noise with her cupped hands, and another how to whistle with two blades of grass. Sometimes he'll find something the other kids in the party don't know how to do, either, and he'll gladly show them, if they'll listen long enough
He draws on every little trick he'd learned growing up, from his friends, from summer camp, from his time in the Scouts. He learns that El has never gotten to play a kazoo, so he makes her one with wax paper and a comb, the way his grandad had shown him so many summers ago, and lets her go to town
By the end of summer, Hopper is ready to murder Steve - except El looks so happy, so pleased with herself, making popping noises with her lips, snapping her fingers, giggling as Jonathan and Will try and fail to copy the bird call Steve showed her. For that smile on her face, Hopper guesses he can put up with it
(He gets his revenge by teaching El how to whistle the Andy Griffith theme song and unleashing her on Steve. It takes a week for Steve to get the tune out of his head)
