What Is Your Real Name?

Summary - Albus is carried away to fight in the Coliseum, but has a dark secret. He makes an unlikely friend within the confines of the palace, but still must hide who and what he truly is.
Warning(s) - sexual content, 18+, female receiving oral, cross dressing [?], penetration, pinv sex, sexual themes, violence, noncon if you squint real hard; let me know if I missed anything as always

This is not how it was supposed to go. Hanno sat chained in a cart, several other men around him, clenching his jaw as people threw rotten fruits through the bars as if they were enclosed animals. He took several deep breaths, willing himself not to reach through the bars and grab someone, anyone and rip their esophagus out. He was snapped from his violent thoughts at she sound of a hiss in pain sounded from his left. He glanced over, a small figured boy held his cheek where smeared red fruit splattered his features. The boy was so dainty, though he did have some muscle tone especially in his legs. The clothes he wore were baggy against the short frame, and his face seemed to be too feminine and made him look young in the face. In fact, his blonde hair was in a small bun at the base of his neck and was far too shiny to be a man’s, he had thought to himself. The boy’s eyes met Hanno’s, and Hanno knew he had been staring.
“What?” The boy murmured, wiping the spoiled juice from his cheek, then smearing the color on the fabric of the shift he wore.
“My apologies, you just look so young.” Hanno faced forward once more. “Does not seem as if you should be here.”
“I shouldn’t, but yet I must be.” The boy’s voice even sounded light and airy like a young girl’s. “Does not seem as if you should be here either, friend.”
Hanno looked at the boy once more, who’s cheekbone was splotched red from the impact of the fruit. “What is your name?”
The boy gave a small yet sincere smile. “Albus Cassius Drusus. And you?”
“Hanno… just Hanno. Where do you hail from?”
“From here, from Rome. I’ve known no other place. And where do you?”
Hanno smiled, almost bitterly, “Numidia.”
That was the only interaction they had before being thrust into a foreign home, lavish and tall. A man named Macrinus had purchased them as if they were livestock, and as soon as they had arrived at his home, Hanno and Albus had already had to face against a bald, intimidating looking man who they would regrettably come to know as Viggo. Albus had gone first, holding his own for a while, but had fallen shortly after. Hanno had been so infuriated he did not wear the knuckled metal gloves and beaten the bald man without them. Albus and Hanno had come to a mutual understanding, sitting in silence together as they ate, sharing a cell, and becoming slightly close acquaintances.
They had even fought together in the Coliseum the first day, Albus listening to every word Hanno said in order to defeat the opposing gladiator atop the back of a ferocious rhinoceros. Though the rhino had managed to land a sizable gash on Albus’s left side that needed tending as soon as the battle had concluded.
“You must get Ravi to inspect that; you have lost a lot of blood,” Hanno looked at the boy concerned as his friend winced, a hand coated in caked and some fresh blood holding tightly to the wound.
“I shall heal on my own. Or, I shall perish and not have to experience such pain in the arena again,” Albus let out a pained chuckle. Wincing at the movement, but Hanno had not laughed.
Hanno did not want to press the issue, but instead called for Ravi and let Albus have his alone time within the cell. Ravi had been a good friend to him, so he had no doubt that his new acquaintance would be cared for. He couldn’t however explain why he seemed to care so much for the boy. Maybe it was because he was so young, or maybe he saw the lonely little boy running and being left all by himself like he had experienced all his life. Still, he felt neither were the answer he sought.
As Hanno leaned against the wall outside the cell, Ravi emerged frantically, waving over Viggo, signaling him to enter. Hanno had tried to peek inside to see what was wrong but Viggo had shoved him aside, fighting his way into the cell. They reemerged seconds later, holding Albus by the arm as he wrapped himself in a linen sheet to cover himself from the chest downward, his blond hair let down and cascading a little farther than his shoulders.
“The man you’ve come to know as Albus is a liar!” Viggo threw Albus down, Hanno immediately went to step down and help, but Ravi stopped him. “This woman has defiled the Coliseum.”
Hanno’s gaze shot back down, everything beginning to fall into place like a puzzle. Albus, though now he was unsure that was her name, was a woman. She looked up at Hanno through terrified eyes.
“Her punishment shall be the gladiators’ whore. If you wish to fight so bad, fight against the men as they tear into you like you are nothing but flesh.”
Viggo left, the woman now visibly shaking on the floor, clenching the sheet between her fingers so tightly her knuckles became white. Men began to stalk toward her slowly, imagining all the things they could do to her.
Hanno stepped forward, a dark unreadable expression on his features as he loomed over her. “I claim the deceiver as my personal property. Anyone who so much as looks at her may challenge me to take her.”
The lustful, blood crazed men began to whisper, backing off out of fear to the gladiator that the gladiator could easily take them down if he was able to take down a rhinoceros.
“Woman, come with me,” he yanked her up off the floor, earning him a yelp as she tried to keep ahold of the linen she draped herself in. The gladiator and his new prize marched to the bathhouse, Hanno barricading the door from the other side.
“Hanno, friend, I am so sorry. Please, be merciful.”
Hanno turned facing the shaking woman. “What is your real name?”
There was a pause as the woman quivered, taking a deep breath, “Albina Cassia Drusus. I gave you my father’s name, I am sorry. I had no choice! They would have taken my brother, and he is no older than 10.”
He looked at her, sorrow filling his eyes. He knew how she felt all too well. She was a slave, forced to do what no one wanted just like he was.
“I do not blame you. I do not plan to do anything to you, you have my word. Viggo and the others will be watching, however, so we must play the part. If you help me, I can keep you safe.”
Albina nodded fervently. “What will you have me do? Anything!”
Hanno approached, glancing over his shoulder at the closed door, knowing men waited on the other side to hear the show. He whispered, for her to play along and not to be afraid. Before Albina could even nod in agreement, Hanno had ripped the sheet in a place that wouldn’t leave her vulnerable. He picked her up bridal style, carrying her into the warm waters of the bath, making the splashing excessive to maybe convince the men he had pushed her in.
“I shall enjoy being the only one to take you,” he spoke roughly, just loud enough for others on the other side to hear, but not loud enough that it seemed like a farce.
“Please, Hanno, I beg of you be gentle!” She yelped, playing along perfectly, the two of them couldn’t help but crack a grin.
“You begging is pointless. Spread.”
Albina couldn’t help but feel heat building in her stomach even if she knew it was all a game. The words surged something in her.
“What a beautiful sight. Tell me, has any other man had you?”
“No, only you. Please, I beg you be merciful toward me,” she whimpered.
It was Lucius now that felt his core twitch. She sounded so genuine and he felt his cloth grow tighter. He let out a groan for show, but in reality it was genuine. He did not remove his clothing, beginning to thrust into the water against her, daring not to touch her or he would spill over the edge. Even her fake moans seemed to be too much for him to handle. He sat down, pulling her on top of him, water splashing around violently like the ocean waves crashing against a ship.
“Ride.”
She bounced against his leg, the water cascading the white linen shift she covered with, billowing with small waves in the pool and showing her budded nipples through the fabric. He grimaced at the sight of her, shuttering at the imprint of her womanhood against him. This was the closest interaction with a woman he had since he had been with his wife, which was almost a month ago. It was becoming more and more difficult to will himself not to beg for her to sit on his cock.
“Hanno, p-please, I’m going to-“ she mewled, still bouncing and letting the water splash ludely.
“I will finish first. Hold yours or I shall teach you a lesson you won’t soon forget.”
Albina threw her head back with a mewling whimper, “Yes, Hanno.”
He tapped her hip with his hand, Albina immediately understanding to pace herself faster. Hanno groaned loudly, grunting as he watched her bounce up at down.
He threw his head back, letting the primal, guttural moan escape his throat as he came to a faux finish.
“Come for me, woman.”
She had almost forgotten the ruse and felt herself clenching around nothing, but obeyed, propping her hand between her legs against his leg, throwing her head back as she let out a mewling cry that echoed against the stone walls.
They both panted, smiling, knowing that everyone outside had the best show without even seeing what had—or rather had not—happened.
“I shall carry you into the next room to lie you down,” Hanno whispered, pulling the linen that had fallen from her shoulder back up as the two of them stood.
“Why is that?” She had whispered back, face contorting slightly in confusion.
“If it were your first time, especially with me, you would not have the ability to walk.”
Albina blushed and nodded letting him pick her up bridal style and carry her out of the room. Her arms were draped around his neck, face tinted pink and buried into his bare chest. All the men looked at him with proud expressions, and looked at her slyly, thinking she had become a plaything to a violent man. One even made a muffled comment about how scared she must be to have been taken by a savage of Numidia.
Days and nights past quickly. Albina had not been forced to fight any longer, but Macrinus had let her stay with Hanno, who she now knew as Lucius.
“Consider it a prize for a job well done, Hanno.” Macrinus had smiled devilishly.
There were many other times when they would have to fake their way into being believable, but everyone seemed to believe it. Men would make comments to her when Lucius wasn’t around, but he would always find out and scare them to the point they would leave her alone. She waited on him hand and foot, hoping she could make it up to him for saving her life countless times.
It wasn’t long before he had told Ravi that he needed him to take his ring to a commander outside the city and bring his army to help him reclaim the throne.
She had wanted to fight alongside him, ready to lay her life down for the man that had risked his so many times for her, but Lucius insisted that she wait for him in the barracks until all was said and done. When he did return, he was covered in blood that she prayed was mostly that of another person. He carried her into the palace like he had after their first interaction when he discovered she was a woman.
“So I guess this is where we part ways, Lucius. I suppose I should call you Emperor now,” she held herself straight, trying not to look so downtrodden that this was their last interaction.
“Albina,” Lucius knelt down in front of her, her eyes blown wide that the new emperor bowed before her. “I have not known you long, but I cannot push this aside any longer. I am enthralled with you, captivated by you. I do not wish to fake our interactions any more. If you wish to leave, I will not stop you, but if, however, you wish to stay with me even the smallest bit, I want you by my side for eternity.
Albina teared up, a smile gracing her features. She nodded, making Lucius stand and pull her into a tender kiss. Within seconds, it grew rough and needy. He gripped the swell of her ass over her linen shift, cupping and squeezing, earning her to moan against his lips. He threw her over his shoulder, smacking lightly against her ass, and began carrying her as his hand lingered where he had spanked.
“Where are you taking me?” She giggled from atop his shoulder.
“My chambers. I’ve grown quite tired and irritable having to pretend to fuck you senseless; I prefer to have the real thing.”
She burned in her core and face, glad that he couldn’t see how flushed she was.
He placed her gently on the plush bed, crawling on top of her and reattached himself to her lips, grinding his clothed member into her stomach, making her whimper pathetically. He ripped the shift down the middle, revealing her breast and already erect nipples. He went down hungrily against one, teasing with his tongue while he toyed with the other breast with his hand.
“Lucius, p-please.” She cried, desperate to actually feel him after so long pretending.
He kissed down her scorched skin, making his way to her heat and lavishing her with his tongue, making her back arch from the bed as she moaned. He couldn’t suppress his either, groaning against her clit as he lapped her up, only pushing her further toward her climax.
“I’m so close,” she whispered shakily, a hand clenching at the plush pillows above her head. His head came up from between her legs, earning a disappointed sigh from Albina as she eyed him impatiently. He chuckled before disrobing, letting his hard cock spring forward. Albina looked at it wide eyed, taking in how thick he was and the bulging veins that led from the base all the way toward his swollen pink tip. She spread instinctively, feeling herself shake in anticipation and nervousness.
He hovered over her on his forearm, using his free hand to guide his bulge to her folds, tracing up and down with his tip against her. He looked her in the eyes as he stuck it in slowly, both of them gasping at the sensation. His thrusts stared slow and gentle, but he couldn’t hold himself back much longer and began pounding into her unforgivingly. She cried out, not caring who heard her, as she wrapped her trembling legs around his waist. He leaned down to kiss her, groaning against her lips.
“You feel better than I ever could have imagined,” he panted.
Her eyes rolled back in her head at the sound of his gruff voice. “Lucius, I’m so close I cannot take much more!”
Lucius used his free hand to grasp her by the throat, intensifying her pleasure. “Come all around my cock, dove. I want to feel you.”
She did as he commanded, the knot in her stomach finally snapping and letting the waves of pleasure wash over her. He was not far behind, his cock twitching from inside her, shooting ropes of cum across her insides. He removed himself from inside her, his seed spilling over out of her onto the linens. He collapsed on top of her, both of them panting to catch their breath as they looked each other in the eyes.
“Would you become my empress, Albina?” he breathed out.
She smiled wide, looking into his eyes with adoration. “As long as it is not a farce like we had to face in the gladiator rooms, I will do anything by your side.”

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part VIII
Author’s note - Just wanted to say thank you to those of you that answered the poll :) I’m going to continue to write collections, but I already started on one individual about Lucius that I will post shortly after this. I’m pretty new to Tumblr since my main thing used to be Wattpad, but I think I like this better just bc of the lack of ads, so if you want dm me a request lets do it!
Summary - The married couple is warming up to each other slowly but surely. They, and the general, head out to seek out their vengeance against Deia’s father.
Warning(s) - slight nudity, sexual implications, violence; let me know if i missed anything as always
Deia stirred from the sound of her door opening. The room was too bright and her head throbbed. She pulled the pillow over her eyes and groaned.
”Good morning, my empress. I trust you slept well,” Aelia smirked, bringing over the usual breakfast of fruits and olives, bread and slices of meat.
”Ugh. I feel as if the Gods are punishing me.”
”Well you certainly had a busy evening last night.”
Deia uncovered her eyes slowly, looking at the smirk on Aelia’s face through squinted eyes, in an attempt to keep the harsh rays of light from making her feel worse. She looked around the room, noticing it wasn’t her own, then looked down at herself. She yanked the sheets quickly over her bare chest, Aelia stifling a giggle.
”I shall let you eat, then return with your clothing for the day. I suspect you need a long hour in the bathhouse this morning.”
Aelia made her way to the door, Deia still analyzing the unfamiliar surroundings. As she pulled the door open, Emperor Geta stepped in, smiling ear to ear.
“Good morning, darling,” he grinned impossibly wider. He took in her perplexed expression, an airy chuckle breezing past his pink lips. “I suppose you might be confused as to how you got here.”
Deia looked at all of the factors: the strange room, her headache, the feeling between her legs, the nakedness, and Luke mosaics lining the walls. Her brows furrowed as her frustration and mostly embarrassment rose. She eyed the pomegranates on her tray, picking one up as if to eat it, and chucked it at the emperor as hard as she could. He moved to the side, narrowly missing the flying fruit. He seemed very amused as he glanced at the squished pomegranate spattered across the floor.
“I must have done a poor job last night,” he quipped, crossing his arms over his chest and looking at his wife who still sat in bed, a furious expression gracing her still sleepy features. She grabbed the full butter knife from the tray, stepping efficiently and purposefully toward him. She forced him against the wall by the window with her forearm, holding the butter knife to his throat, and yet he still looked as if it were more entertaining than the Coliseum.
”Fucker. I’m going to kill you/“
“Father always said when a woman wants to kill you, you’re in business,” he smirked.
”I should rend your skin from you and rub your flesh with salt just for your commentary.”
”You speak to me so violently, yet I am still fully clothed.”
Deia looked down at herself, but only for a second. Her face had begun to burn with the realization she was still completely bare. She tried to physically shake the thought from her head, willing her guard to stay up as best she could muster.
Geta looked her in the eyes during this moment of weakness, the glinting from the cutlery reflecting the sunlight in his peripheral. He took his elbow, slamming it down on her wrist, the metal knife clinking against the floors as it fell.
”Sorry, darling, did that hurt?”
Deia’s eyes moved from the knife on the ground to his face, his expression concerned.
”Yes,” she spoke exasperatedly.
”I’m sorry, but your heart was not in it anyway; we do not wish to kill each other, and you do not wish to kill me.”
”At this moment, I fervently disagree,” she rubbed at her wrist, soothing the slight pain away. “How did I wind up in your bedchambers and not my own? Did you fill my food with dragon’s breath? Render me unconscious so guards could carry me in here so you could have your way?”
”No, Gods! I may be a tyrant, but I’m no monster, Deia. Do you really not remember a thing?”
Deia’s shoulders relaxed, looking at him as he ran a hand through the back of his hair.
”I apologize anyway. I didn’t really think you to be that drunk, I supposed you had a glass to steel your nerves and have something to blame the next morning. Clearly, my judgement was wrong,” he fell back on the bed, sitting over the edge and slumping to bring his forehead into his palm almost dumbfounded.
”You… you speak the truth?” Deia stripped a sheet from the bed to cover herself before standing in front of her husband, Geta looking up at her like he hadn’t slept all night and nodded.
“Did we… we didn’t. Did we?” She fiddled with the edge of the linen that she had lazily draped over herself.
”I assured you when you came here that I would not do anything that you did not beg for.”
The silence lingered as she stared at a loose string in the linen, twisting it around her finger. “Was it any good?”
Geta’s eyes shot to her once more, taking in the hue of her cheeks. He barked out a laugh, wiping over his face with his hand.
”It is not funny! Forget I said anything,” she huffed, making her way toward the door to leave with what little pride she had left. Geta grabbed her forearm, still sitting on the bed.
”What?” She looked at him with her cheeks puffed, irritated.
”It was heavenly. I’ve never heard such beautiful noises. I felt as if I drank the sweetest wine and ate Venus herself.”
Deia bit the inside of her cheek, praying that she would have control over her already heated cheeks, realizing her prayers were in vain by the smug look on Geta’s face.
“Well, thank you for the reprieve, emperor. If you’ll excuse me, I would like to leave while i still possess some dignity.”
Geta chuckled as the door slammed behind Deianira, shaking his head, unable to understand the woman he had wed.
General Marcus Acacius returned to Rome just as Geta and Caracalla had said, and was instructed on what to do as soon as he arrived back. Deia only knew since she had eavesdropped from behind the door, hearing the deal that if he were to do this, he could miss the games in the Coliseum and spend every night for the next month with his wife, so he agreed almost happily. The general rode on a black steed without blemish, two cloaked figures on matching white horses behind him, and a bushel of soldiers following. They slowed in the village, taking in the people running into their homes to avoid another incident like they had endured the first time the Roman militia had come to their quaint part of town.
”Sir, we are in search of Publius. Where would he be at this moment?” Acacius stopped a man from the market. The man was visibly shaken, but stood bravely despite it. His eyes stared unfazed at the general, one of them with a long scar from his brow down to his cheekbone. The burly man pointed a thick finger toward the building in the back of town where Deianira was never permitted to go. The disguised figure atop the white horse dropped a handful of coins to the merchant. “Take care of yourself, Atticus.”
The merchant’s eyes followed the hooded figure and the rest of the army, wondering why he felt so at ease and familiar with the stranger.
The small building the man had described was very unkempt, the bricks and cement holding it together chipping at the corners and making it look uninhabited. Giggles and strange noises could be heard from inside, a noise that struck an awareness for what the place was into most of the people led by Marcus. One of the disguised turned red as if smeared in pomegranate, not going unnoticed by the other cloaked person.
The general hopped from his horse gracefully, knocking on the door with a booming fist.
A woman with a sloppy stola emerged behind the door, her lips swollen and reddened, her kohl on her eyes smeared and a distinct, indescribable scent emerged from her.
“It’s not everyday that we receive Roman soldiers in our little slice of the Heavens. You and your men must have heard splendid things about us.
“We are in search of Publius. We know he is here.”
The woman perked up, almost scared stiff. “I will send him out momentarily.”
She retreated inside, scurrying and things rattling about could be heard inside before the door opened once again.
Publius emerged just as disheveled as the woman before. “Ah, general. I presume you have brought me the militia I was promised.”
”Something along those lines.”
Soldiers surrounded Deia’s father, grabbing him by the arms and binding his wrists.
“What is the meaning of this, Acacius?! This goes against the deal struck!”
”I beg to differ, Publius,” Geta removed his hood and jumped from the horse to swagger closer to his empress’s father, looking down on him. “I promised to protect your quaint little village and to send militia if need be for them. I am delivering on that promise at this moment.”
”You snake! If my daughters discover what you’ve done, if your wife discovers, she will cut your head from your body. She still believes in a grand revolt, and what better start than taking her father?”
”Tut tut, I thought you knew me smarter than that, dear Publius,” the second hooded figure pushed back her veil just enough to bring light to the shadows that shrouded her face.
“Deianira. Whatever poison this tyrant has whispered in your ear, you mustn’t believe it!”
“Actually, this was of your own undoing.” She tossed the letters at his feet in the dirt. “You will fight in the Coliseum against our gladiators tomorrow for your crime of wishing harm to your emperor.” She hopped from the horse and stood a few feet from her father.
”My own daughter, corrupted with power. If you were no bastard child, I would be impressed.”
”You dare insult one of your empresses of Rome? Do you wish for greater punishment?” Geta spat in his face.
”Once the city discovers her origins and how she was the one who slayed her mother, she will be empress no longer.”
“I’ve heard enough from this traitor. Take him, general.” Deianira turned her back against her father.
Publius fought against the soldier's hold, freeing himself, and pushing his daughter against the ground, dagger to her throat.
”You will die for this treachery, you daughter of a whore!”
She cried out, her brows furrowing and teeth gritting harshly in fury as she brought her knee to his groin and flipping him on his back in his vulnerability.
”Go ahead: kill me like you did to your mother, devil woman!” He yelled, spitting on her cheek.
”I won’t need to. You shall die in the Coliseum at the hands of my gladiators, and no one will remember or mourn your name.”
Soldiers grabbed him, more of them holding him now.
“For your attack on my wife’s life, however, I believe an eye for an eye shall suffice. You will never raise your hand to your empress ever again.” Geta stepped beside his wife, handing her his prized shortsword. Deianira turned the blade over in her hand, letting all her rage forge into it and make it stronger.
Soldiers raised his arms toward their empress, Publius pleading screams at his child. She raised the sword above her head, cutting his right hand off and watching it fall out the ground, the creams of agony not even heard to her ears from the adrenaline.
”Why not both hands, my life? Do you not wish to see him slaughtered in the arena?”
”Oh, dear husband, I do, I assure you. Taking his dominant hand and leaving him one to defend himself shall be my last mercy to him.”
”I do love your benevolence, dear wife,” Geta placed his hand on the small of his empress’s back, looking at her as if he could never be more in love. Guards led Publius toward Rome while Geta helped his wife back on her horse, as the militia left town as if they’d never been there.
The emperor and empress ate dinner together, the long banquet table keeping them what felt like a mile apart. Geta lifted his plate and cup, making his way to her end of the table, the unmistakable smile on his wife’s lips making his heart jump in his chest.
“Why do you wear that smirk? Am I not permitted to sit next to my lovely wife?”
Deia chuckled, “You are the emperor; you may do as you please.”
”Ah, but you forget you are the empress and can will me away. However,” he leaned his cheek against his fist as he gazed at her with a large grin, “I think you are beginning to enjoy my company.”
”I’ll never tell, Imperator.”
”There is no need for you to… your eyes tell it all.”
Deianira rolled her eyes, looking back to her plate of food, memories had been resurfacing from that one intoxicated night lately, and she could feel the heat in her body swell, as this was one of those moments. She always kept calm, trying not to show it, but even she knew it made her more docile and pleasant to have around…
She would never admit that though, especially to Geta.
”I hear no denial, empress,” he scooted his chair closer to her making her smile grow, a tint of pink entering her cheeks, but not the kind from embarrassment, but the blush that showed her happiness. It suited her, the emperor thought.
”I suppose… I do enjoy being around you in the slightest,” she mumbled, trying to hide her smile and failing as she took a bite of the dessert on her plate.
They sat in comfortable silence as they ate, unable to wipe the grins from their faces as they stole glances at each other.
”Your father… he wished to see us both after we’ve finished our meal.” Geta’s face had finally become somber, his wife’s soon matching his.
“We may as well go now. After all, hearing about him has spoiled my appetite.”
Deia and Geta stood at the top of the staircase that led down into the dungeons. Geta grabbed his wife’s hand, looping around his arm and placing his hand on top of hers. He gave her a reassuring smile before they both started their descent.
”So you did come to see me before I met my demise,” her father hung on the bars, looking exhausted and as if he had already been attacked.
”What do you want, father?”
”I wanted to let your husband know what you are,” he smirked, spitting on the ground at his daughters feet. “Her mother was a whore; your wife is no more my daughter than you are my son.”
”You dare speak about your empress that way? Do you crave an early death out of fear for what awaits you in the arena?” Geta boomed, immediately stopping at the touch of his wife’s hand against his chest.
”He speaks the truth, emperor.” Deia didn’t look at the emperor out of shame.
”her mother claimed that Mars descended from the Heavens. She was a beautiful creature, but not one enough to tempt the Gods.”
Geta listened with a furrowed brow, glancing his wife’s way, waiting for her to contradict her father, yet she never did, and she never looked back at him.
”Her mother died giving birth to the bastard child you married. I believe it to be the Gods’ way of dealing punishment for such hubris.”
Deia lunged at her father through the bars, grabbing him by the collar and pulling his head directly into the bars, rendering him unconscious. She stared at him, letting out a gruff exhale before walking away. Geta followed after her, trying to keep up with her quick pace.
”Deia, there is no way that all he spoke of was truth,” he grabbed her forearm, stopping her.
”It is, and he never let me forget it. I understand if you do not wish me to be your wife anymore, emperor.”
”Darling, no… to be honest, Caracalla and I did the same to our mother. I do not judge you for things you could not control, but why not tell me?”
”Why would I? I was ashamed of it, Geta I… I thought you would think me unworthy of the title of empress. Of the title of your wife,” she turned to him, brows knitted together in frustration.
“I think,” he grabbed her hand to pull her closer, “that any woman with Mars’s blood flowing through her veins is fit to be worshipped as more than an empress.”
Deia relaxed, shoulders losing their tension as she filled with relief.
”If I’d have known sooner you were daughter of Mars, you wouldn’t have been empress, though,” he said as they walked back up the stairs. Deia’s gaze shot to him, fear in her eyes.
”Really?”
”Of course not. You would have been head of all the wars in the name of the Roman Empire. We could use the God of War’s powers in this monarchy,” he smirked.
Deia shoved him with a smile, Geta pulling her into his side and planting a tender kiss to the top of her head.

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part VII
Author’s note - hi everyone! I did end up working Christmas shifts since I can barely afford gas so thank you for your patience. I hope this chapter was worth the wait though!
Summary - Deianira finally lets herself be as chaotic as she craves, interrupting a party held by the two emperors, in which Geta offers her some devastating news and a gruesome solution.
Warning(s) - historical inaccuracies, mentions of violence, female receiving oral, nudity, smut, drunk sexual actions; let me know if I missed any warnings or made any grammatical errors
”Do not fret, I can get my own door.”
Deia pushed the door so hard it hit the walls, an echoing boom to resonate within. All chatter died, and everyone stood to stare at the door. The empress bowed to her friend before walking inside. Peoples’ eyes followed her as she made her way through, hushed whispers of people talking about the audacity of the empress, and that the emperor and she were very alike. While one older woman whispered, Deianira snatched the chalice of wine from her hand bowing as she took a sip from it and continued her trek toward the emperor's thrones. She saw her sister perched on the lap of Caracalla, running fingers over the monkey that sat against the armrest.
”Emperor Caracalla,” she bowed deeply, turning to Geta. “Husband,” she sipped from the wine, staring down at him as she stood straight and unmoving.
“I see you are getting more used to being in the palace, sister.” Caracalla smirked as he watched his in-law perch herself on the armrest of Geta’s throne. “You’ve turned out to be untamable, despite my brother’s beliefs upon meeting you.”
Geta scoffed from behind Deia, making her turn. “Does your brother’s statement amuse you?”
“Indeed it does. All horse trainers know when breaking a stallion, you need the proper time, which I have not yet been given.”
“Am I a steed now? I thought I was a snake.”
“Then I shall become the snake charmer for you, dearest,” he smiled up at her, noticing her thumb running over something nervously in her palm. Hw stayed silent as he stalked her motions, asking a servant to refill her wine, downing half of the chalice’s contents in one sip. He ripped the trinket from her hand, turning it over in his own, holding it out of her reach when she made a dash to retrieve back what she had lost.
“I see you enjoy my gift. Quite the odd little trinket, I must say.”
“If you think it so odd,” she snatched it back, holding it to her chest, “then why snatch it from me? Better yet, why purchase something like this for me? You’re not falling for me, are you, emperor?”
“You would enjoy it too much if I had, dear wife,” he shifted, trying to regain composure, not going unnoticed by the three others sitting around him.
“No, I am sure that must be the case. After all, you went out of your way to ruin perfectly good linens when we have never once laid with one another.”
His face dropped slightly, his signature smirk gone and his posture became almost physically rigid. “Where have you heard this?”
”Ah, so I do possess the ability to get under your skin. And why tell you when you will slaughter the one who conveyed the message? I have no reason to dispose of such a kind hearted soul.”
He gripped her face with his fingers, squishing her cheeks together and pulled her closer to him. “You will tell me or my brother will bed your sister, make her beg for her own release, just to throw her in the Coliseum as a prize.”
”If you do anything to my sister, you will watch my knife plunge into your chest and rip your heart from it. You shall be the one begging for release.”
The stare down between the two was deadly. Caracalla watched amusedly while sipping from his cup while Publia held back tears. The silence was broken by Geta’s laugh and his smirk was back on his face. “Ah, wife, how I love our little spats. You shall keep me on my toes until our last breaths.”
Geta picked her up by the hips to sit her back on the armrest, then stood, walking from the room.
Deia stood to follow, not far behind him as she jogged after him out the door. Once she was in the hall, she saw his back walking several feet in front of her toward his bedchamber.
“Why me?” She shouted after him, still walking closer as if walking toward a carnivore.
He turned slowly to look at her, moonlight hitting his pale features and making him appear as if he were glowing.
“I do not understand why it had to be me you chose to marry, so I ask you this, hoping your answer can relieve the pain of not knowing: why me?”
”I tire of concealing the truth from you, even though I have fought against your stubbornness to try and tell you… do you know what your father did? He sold both of you to my brother and I. That woman you slaughtered for in front of the temple? She has been a runaway from the monarchy for over a decade. You may think I am the villain, but your father is who you should look upon with the disgust you give me!” He shouted bitterly, stepping so he was directly in her face.
Deianira froze, eyes wide and brimming with tears though she refused to let them spill. “No, he would never do that. He loved us. I-I mean… he loved my sister, but he would never have sold her off. It cannot be.”
For the first time since meeting Emperor Geta, his eyes showed that he was sympathetic. He motioned for her to follow, and once she was beside him, he linked arms with her stroking the back of her hand.
They walked in silence for what felt like the whole night, even if it was only a few short minutes. He let go of her arm and she immediately missed the warmth. He beckoned her inside, placing his hand on the small of her back as she entered. The office was dimly lit by the moonlight and a few oil lanterns that he had lit after entering.
“These letters are those that I exchanged with your father prior to your retrieval. He promised both of you in exchange for the safety of your village.”
Deianira looked at the notes and pacing around the room, reading over them and confirming all of what the emperor said was true: your father had traded you like livestock, giving a dowry as well, to protect your village and receive a good portion of soldiers to expand in the name of Rome. The notes included that Deia would never go willingly and there would have to be some kind of ultimate purpose for her travels.
The whole rebellion was a sham.
Deia had her back to Geta as she finished reading the several notes, completely still.
”Little snake?”
She couldn’t speak. The words were caught in her throat and she tried to force back those tears.
”Deia. Look at me.”
She turned slowly, forcing her head up as if it weighed 100 pounds. She finally looked him in the eyes, the tears she fought against with every fiber of herself snapping once she saw his eyes.
He rushed to her, embracing her tightly as his hands snaked and hugged at her lower back, one cradling the back of her head. She didn’t want to fight him… she didn’t have the energy to right now. She curled her arms around his neck and buried her face into his chest.
”Must you pity me, Emperor? Must you make me feel as if I am nothing once again?”
”My darling, I do not pity you to make you feel like nothing. I wish to give you back the power you felt prior to knowing what you do now.”
She pulled away from his chest, looking up into his eyes. “Simply because you are emperor, does not mean that you may give my spirit the relief it desires.”
”Because I am emperor, I have the power to give you anything that you and your sister could ever want, even the intangible.” He stroked the tears away from her cheeks with the rough edge of his thumb. “Is it vengeance you want?”
”Would it matter? You have vowed to protect the village.”
There was a comforting quiet as Geta mulled over what he could do in his conniving way. His eyes sparked and his smirk danced on his peach colored lips. “You are right, little snake… but I never vowed to protect him.”
The morning after the party, Deia woke before the sun had peeked over the horizon. She was antsy to the point that she couldn’t wait for Aelia, opting to dress herself and even style her own hair.
Deia walked quickly out the door and toward the dining hall where she knew Caracalla and Geta dined. Aelia walked past her, having to do a double take.
”Empress? Do you not need me to prepare you for today?”
Deia skirted to a stop, turning to face Aelia. “No, thank you, I have some rather urgent business. Take the day to yourself.”
Before the servant could even bow or utter the words ‘thank you,” Deianira had begun walking away.
Guards stood at the entryway of the dining hall, Deia peeking through the sliver between the armored men, spotting her husband and his brother at the table. She pushed through the guards and stopped in front of Emperor Geta, waiting for his eyes to notice her before she bowed.
”Wife! What a pleasant surprise. Please, sit. After all, this is your first time dining with us,” Geta smiled at his bride, taking notice of how she fidgeted with her fingers. She nodded sitting beside her husband, Emperor Caracalla across from them, handing singular grapes to Dondus as the primate perched on his shoulder. Servants rushed to fill her chalice with wine and serve her a golden plate with fruits, meats, and breads almost pouring over the edges.
”What brings my ravishing sister-in-law to dine with us? Do you wish for someone’s head?” Caracalla smiled at her angelically, his words a stark contradiction to his features. The monkey cooed as if understanding his master’s words, delighted almost as much as the emperor he sat upon.
”Actually, brother, yes. I have asked Empress Deianira to attend this morning to see what we should do with her father for treacherous actions, and who better to deal righteous bloodshed unto someone than you?” Geta perched his chin on folded hands, turning to face his bride.
”I was hoping to be granted permission to throw him into the Coliseum, with the next tournament approaching in a few days time,” Deia’s face was calm, though her heart raced, unable to believe that such violent words had left her mouth.
Caracalla’s smile grew wide and childlike, his entire body perking up at the suggestion. “Sister, I am honored you’ve become so impressionable by us,” he clapped. “Throw him in, string his entrails in the streets as decor, claim him as Christian and crucify him in front of the entire city if you wish it. I will give my full support for your bloody endeavor.”
Geta smiled, grabbing his wife’s hand on the table and stroking against her palm with his thumb. “It is settled then: when General Acacius returns to us the dawn of the day before the great show, we will send him to fetch your father. It shall give you just enough time to think of how you wish him to meet his demise.”
Deia smiled, genuine as shocking as it was, and looked at her husband’s eyes. It felt like the first time, but she felt as if she saw sparks of like for the first time, unlike the blank mask of feigning care. This time, he supported her wholeheartedly, and she could tell just by his stare.
Deia sat at the dining table that night surrounded by people she considered strangers—her husband and brother in law’s attendance missing—her eighth, maybe ninth, chalice emptied. Everything was blurred and felt like she was moving in slow motion. She stood to her feet abruptly, startling Aelia and making the wine bottle in her hands stumble a bit before she stabilized it.
“Empress? Are you alright?”
Deia turned quickly. “I wish to go see my husband.”
Deia took deliberate and surprisingly straight steps for how intoxicated she had become over supper. Her footsteps echoed against the stone floor as she rounded corners and approached a door.
Emperor Geta’s door.
She knocked, hearing the familiar voice muffled from the other side.
“Enter.”
He had yet to look up, glancing over papers at a desk in his open robe that revealed his chest and some of his torso, as she shut the door behind her. The soft click brought his head up, his indifference morphing into surprise as he stood.
”Deia, I suspected you to be in bed at this hour.”
”I do not care for sleep at the moment,” she walked toward his bed, eyeing the perverse murals against the walls depicting couples in various positions: one with a woman’s legs by her ears as the man held them and thrusted into her, a woman who sat upon the face of a man as he stroked himself, and one with the woman on all fours as her companion was behind, to name a few. It brought a smirk to her lips.
”What do you want then?” He stood behind her, Deia turning slowly enough not to stumble so she was facing him. She said nothing, but her eyes had portrayed to Geta precisely what he had wanted to know.
”Darling, you’re drunk.”
”And that matters? Were we not wed in front of the Gods and all of the court?” She smirked as she placed a finger to his chest, trailing it in 8’s against his chest. “Do you not wish to bed me?”
”My desires go far beyond a bed, darling wife.”
”What would you like to do to me, imperator? Do you wish to try every mural on this wall with me?”
”Careful, little snake. You push me closer to my limits,” he smirked, attempting to move away toward the window on the left side of his bed. Deia grabbed his forearm and yanked him downward, his side collapsing onto the linens.
”Show me how the great tyrant claims his whores,” her eyes were dark. Geta looked up at the ceiling, swallowing a lump in his throat and mentally scolding himself for even thinking about all of the ways he could make her squirm. Geta felt something scorching his cool skin, his head shooting down to see his wife’s tongue skating over his exposed flesh. He watched with breath caught in his throat, still holding tightly to the sliver of restraint he held to, as she grew closer and closer, now licking along his neck and jawline. Her face was mere inches from his, a wicked grin like a cat playing on her lips as she bit at her lip and let out a chuckle, her hand connecting with the bulge under his robes. He grabbed her face, his resolve shattering and pulling her lips into his ferociously, still tasting the rich burgundy wine on her tongue. He groaned against her lips as she caressed his cock, unable to control himself at the burning touch of her hand. He pulled away from her quickly, taking both of his hands and ripping the fabric of the stola she wore right down the middle, pouncing back onto her like a tiger with his prey. He trailed kisses down her neck, noticing the way her back arched when he kissed a specific spot, and stopped there to suck at her skin and make her whimper loudly.
He flipped her onto her back, hovering over her as he kissed her, his left hand coming up to fondle her breast. He felt how quickly her chest rose at the sensation, pulling away from her lips and looked down at her with the same smirk she wore moments ago. He hovered his mouth over her other breast, teasing the nipple with his toungue and occasionally his teeth. She groaned without shame, the alcohol not allowing her to worry about if others listened from the outside. Geta pulled away, looking down at her exasperated expression.
”Why did you stop?” Deia panted as he chest rose and fell rapidly, the markings against her neck and breasts red and pleasing to behold in Geta’s sight.
”You wished to act out the murals. I intend to show you,” he pulled the remaining strips of cloth from around her waist, discarding it on the floor, and pushed her legs up by her head. Not taking his eyes from hers, he crouched down once more so his eyes peeked over the apex of her abdomen. He blew against her womanhood making her jolt and release a breath she didn’t know she’d been holding. He licked a flat stripe up her core, earning a harmonious, sexy sound, urging him to go further. He circled her clit slowly with pressure, making her legs that she now rested upon his shoulders quiver. He prodded her entrance with his pointer finger, pushing inside as she grew louder, now gripping a fistful of his hair. He groaned against her core at the sensation in his scalp sending the vibrations into Deianira. She felt the knot in her stomach being pulled more taught with every movement of his tongue and fingers. She was on the very edge of her climax as Geta inserted another of his digits, curling them slightly to hit the sensitive spot within her. The tightly wound chord within her snapped and began unraveling, her thighs pushing together against the emperor’s head. He kept his pace as she shook against him from the climax.
He lifted as she came down, panting for air and droplets of sweat glistening on her chest in the moonlight.
“Get some rest, snake. I shall sleep elsewhere,” Geta stood, pulling his robe to be more closed. He felt her grip, looking down at where she held onto his forearm as she lie in the bed still uncovered and bare to him.
”Stay. Please,” she smiled, sending a pang through the emperor looking down at that genuine smile he had craved when he saw her with Claudia. He nodded, climbing into bed beside her, Deia’s hold on his arm not faltering. She fell asleep in moments, Geta admiring how the moon made her shine like the Goddess Venus in his bed, before he himself allowed slumber to pull him in.

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part V
Summary - While the empress has no desire into putting forth effort to bond with her husband, she puts that effort into a new, immediate friendship. Geta has tried countless times to get his empress to hear him out, but swears that if she only sees him as a tyrant, then that is what he shall be… that is until he sees her truly happy and wishes to be the source of her smile. Emperor Geta also learns of a secret of the court that has him ready to do whatever it takes to protect his wife.
Warning(s) - historical inaccuracies, possessiveness if you squint at the end, this one is mainly pretty fluff filled. If you notice any grammatical errors or missed warnings please let me know
Days soared by as if they were mosaics on temple walls, pictures of only certain parts of the day that told a long story rather concisely. Deianira’s shoulder had begun its healing, the once swollen purple mark now only tinged red and splotches of green and yellow from the healing process of the bruising. She had avoided the emperor at every turn, telling herself that he only wished to keep her in line or maybe feed into his own sick fantasies and fetishes.
Emperor Geta had grown paler, not needing his usual makeup to make him look as white, but he no longer possessed his ethereal glow. His usual kohl lined eyes were sunk in and no longer filled with their sly spark they typically possessed. They were hollow and void of life, resembling the statues around the palace. He had become colder, harsher, more tense than he normally was. Even the gold embellishments of his clothing seemed to dull against his new form; he was a walking dead man. He knew the reason, though he told no one of what troubled him, but everyone had their suspicions, even the help.
Deia walked down the long halls, approaching the courtyard to spend time amongst the flowers and trees of the fruit bearing kind, her entourage of ladies behind her. She had tuned out the sound of the women behind her idly chatting and gossiping, only focusing on the sound of her sandals patting against the stone floors. She craved music, dancing, anything that held joy in its melody besides the vapid chatter of women she wished to break away from. She slowed, turning to the women of her court, rendering their yapping to cease.
”If you will excuse me, my ladies, I wish to find my husband. There is an urgent matter I must discuss.” She bowed, the women mirroring and continuing their conversations as they broke away from their empress and started in the opposite direction.
The empress let a sigh of relief escape her as she went into the courtyard, listening to the sound of the water splashing from the fish that swam beneath the lily pads and lotus flowers on the surface, fountains with heads of lions creating a steady, peaceful noise that made the voices that urged her to release her rage to grow silent. She sat upon a stone bench, looking over into the fish pond and watching the koi swim around inside, willing herself to focus on the sweet aromas of pears and pomegranates, lotus and other flowers, and all other verdant life that thrived there. She crossed her arms over the edge, resting her cheek on her forearm to look over the edge, not even realizing just how exhausted she was as she drifted off.
Emperor Geta walked briskly down a corridor, attempting to slow his erratic breathing and douse the flame of his rage. He had just left a meeting with the city’s parliament, the thread holding him steady finally snapping at the excessive chatter of men who only envied his and his brother’s position. His plan was to make his way to the courtyard and yell at the sky, letting the Gods know of his fury and perhaps just let the environment soothe his weary soul. He walked though, screeching to a halt at the sight of his bride lying against the edge of the pond, sound asleep. She looked like a priceless work of art, her long lashes lined with kohl and her peach tinted lips that parted slightly had the appearance of an oil painting done by one of the great artists of their time. He stopped all movements, allowing his shoulders to release their tension and drinking her in like an aged wine, letting the image ingrain itself into his memory. She stirred, raising her head from its position, crimson hair falling over her shoulders. She faced him with sultry tired eyes and making the emperor feel as if she had his heart tied in a noose, the phantom rope there growing more taught with every second she looked his way.
”Forgive me, Imperator. I best be leaving,” she stood quickly, bowing, and tried to quickly walk past him without looking him in the eyes again. As she made to break past him, he grasped for her forearm, unable to control his own movements. She turned back to look at his touch then to his eyes. She could tell he had not been doing so well.
”What must I do to earn your forgiveness? Please, I beg you, allow me to defend myself.”
She stared at him blankly, “You have not earned my sympathy, nor shall you earn my forgiveness. Good day, emperor.”
The sun set on the empire, insects chirped and musicians played outside the palace by the market. Deia could hear it all as she sat perched on the balcony with the thick curtains tucked behind her back.
”Mistress? Are you not joining the ladies tonight?” Aelia folded the linen sheets of the bed tightly enough that the wrinkles were nonexistent.
”I hate to say it, but I grow tired of those gossips. All they ever seem to discuss is what this lady was wearing—the audacity—or who that lady was caught sneaking into a bed chamber with. I wish I knew of anyone of social standing I could converse with about any other subject matter,” she scoffed with a scrunch of her nose.
Aelia let out an amused chuckle, stepping toward her mistress to braid her hair back for bed.
”I am sure they are intelligent enough… Perhaps all they need is for their empress to speak about what interests her and they will follow.”
The door opened slowly, revealing disheveled Geta, silver chalice in hand that reflected the moonlight and made him look beautiful in a peculiarly haunting way. “Aelia, leave us, please. I need to speak with my wife.”
Aelia swirled the hair at the bottom to tie and secure it, bowing and left silently.
”I already told you I do not wish to speak to you.”
”Please, Deianira, hear me. I didn't mean to hurt you on the night of our wedding.”
Deia scoffed, looking back out the window, remembering the sting of his teeth in her shoulder… the shame of having the court look at it and thinking she had slept with the man that stood before her.
“I am serious,” he knelt in front of her, gazing up at her through glassy, sunken eyes; she could tell he was heavily intoxicated. “I did not want to force you to consummate the marriage; you already despised me then, and I never wished to force on you something so great, but the court—they always watch, listen—I could not let them tarnish your name.”
”You only wished that your name stayed favored.”
”You do not seem to grasp how cruel the public can be. To know you did not consummate the marriage is to know that you are not my wife by law. They could have you thrown from this place, or killed. Whether you despise me or not, I had to try to save you. Your father would-”
”My father would welcome me back at a moment’s notice, emperor, and I advise you not speak of him so loosely lest I take your tongue!”
”Darling, please,” he rested his forehead to her knees before his wife interrupted him. Deia stiffened at the new nickname that rolled from his tongue so easily.
”I will not hear this nonsense. You will leave. Now!”
He picked himself clumsily off the floor, looking at her one last time. She couldn’t pinpoint the look: was it bitterness, disappointment? Disgust?
Nevertheless, he obeyed, pulling his eyes away from hers and slamming the door behind him.
Deianira sat on the edge of the fish pond once again, a flower in between her delicate fingers as she plucked at the bruised petals to reveal the flower’s true beauty. The ladies of the court surrounded her on the stone benches, chattering amongst themselves, droning on about the same, drab subjects of conversation.
”Empress, the emperor must be a wonderful husband. Tell us, what is he like?” A dark haired woman, hair swept in a braided bun style spoke with a smile, earning a giggle of amusement from the others. They were all curious what he was like in bed and she knew it, but she couldn’t exactly divulge the details since she herself didn’t know.
“Oh, I do not wish to speak of my husband while he is not here to defend himself against my verbal lashing,” she smiled back, all the ladies laughing as Deia resumed examining the flower.
“How did you meet? I’m quite sure it was most romantic,” the woman swooned.
”I assure you, it was not. I guess the Gods gave him to me in an attempt to keep my temper at bay… though I suppose it did not work, to their dismay.”
”Well, what about you? We rarely ever hear what interests you… what are some of the great hobbies of the empress?” Another spoke.
Deia turned to examine her, the woman’s eyes a deep brown, a very similar shade to her skin. Her hair was a glassy, curly black and so long that the lady had to keep it over her shoulder so as not to sit on it. Deia’s smile reached her eyes for the first time since she left home.
“I used to study the stars. I always felt as if they called to me.”
”Oh, that sounds lovely! Perhaps one evening you and I may join each other and you can teach me all of the knowledge I’m sure you have accumulated. If it pleases you, of course, empress.”
”I would love nothing more. May I ask your first name?”
The woman returned the excited smile, “Claudia, your grace.”
Claudia and Deia returned to her bedchamber, giggling in fits of laughter.
“The emperor is quite the lucky man to be graced with someone of such sharp tongue.”
”The emperor and I are not of the best relations, but I hope you can keep that between us two.”
”My apologies, empress, I assumed the way you spoke of him in the courtyard meant that you two were getting along. May I ask why?”
”Do not apologize, it is not your fault he is the way he is. I was brought here against my will, forced into this marriage simply because of the position he holds and because he has never been told no. I am simply here to prove to him that not everyone will bow at his feet,” Deianira smirked as Claudia suppressed a laugh. Aelia entered, a bottle of wine and chalices in hand.
”I knew I heard a second voice. Welcome, Miss Claudia Ptolemy. It is a privilege to have you here. Do you require anything else?”
”No, thank you, this is more than enough!”
Aelia exited with a bow and Claudia turned her attention back to the empress whose mouth was agape with a wide smile. She laughed at her expression.
”Why are you gawking? Do I have something on my face, empress?”
”Claudia Ptolemy? You wouldn’t happen to know of Claudius Ptolemy by chance, would you?” Deia held Claudia’s hands in her own, unable to hide her excitement. Claudia laughed once again, the sound like a lyre.
”I am his daughter in fact. Does this surprise you?”
”I do believe the Gods wanted us to be great friends indeed,” Deia smiled, sipping from her chalice with a smile as her new friend did the same.
Emperor Geta still hadn’t spoken to his wife in some time, not since he had been slightly drunk and wandered into her room to beg her to listen. No more, he had told himself. If she thought him as heartless and cold, he would be heartless and cold. He walked down the corridors with two guards at his sides, hearing womens’ laughter as they walked toward him. They whispered between each other, stopping immediately with wide eyes when seeing the emperor.
“Ladies, how are the both of you?” He stopped, pulling a half smile on his features.
“Just fine, Imperator. We should really be going.” The two ladies bowed, scampering away.
Geta shrugged it off as just one more strange occurrence, but couldn’t quite figure out where all the curt and brief interactions lately stemmed from. He didn’t have long to think about it, however, since a gorgeous laugh echoed though the corridor, reverberating off the stone walls like an angel. He approached the courtyard, following the noise with guards in tow, trying to find the origin of the melodious noise. The laughter now sounded so close by. He slowed, never hearing such a delicate, pleasant sound. He looked at his wife by the pond with one other woman, holding a flower as she smiled, the first smile he had seen from her that seemed like it wasn’t forced. He held his hand up to the guards signaling them to halt as not to get in the line of sight for the two women. He knew the one that his empress spoke to, but had never suspected that Deia would grow close to her… after all, she was only an astronomer’s daughter who married a man of parliament. He stared at his bride for the longest time, soaking in the image of her like a sponge in a tub, until Claudia stood and pulled the empress down an opposing corridor. He glanced at the guards and waved them off dismissively, following the two women as they laughed and chattered down the hall.
They entered the empress’s chambers, Emperor Geta standing right outside the door. He listened to his wife talk of how much she loved the stars and how she had always hoped to study them in greater depth. He felt a smile creep to his face listening to how happy she sounded, practically hearing the smile on her lips. How he craved to be the source of laughter and a smile she wore.
”Emperor? Are you alright?” Aelia spoke and diminished the warm feeling that bubbled within Geta’s chest.
”Fetch the empress some wine. She has a guest. I have some business outside the palace today, but wanted to inform my wife of a party that we are holding tomorrow night.”
“A guest? With all that has transpired as of late, I suspected her to be alone for a while,” Aelia looked concerned.
“If you know something, you’d best come out with it.”
Aelia’s eyes grew wide, “You mean you don’t know?” When no response came, she continued. “Forgive me, Imperator. It may not be my place to speak on this, but a rumor has spread that the marriage was never consummated. Some of the men in court have discouraged their wives from socializing themselves with her… something about filling the ladies’ heads with dangerous ideas. I am sorry.”
With that, Geta left in the direction that he came, the smile from hearing Deianira’s laugh for the first time dissipating at the news, ready to make heads roll and run the streets with blood to protect her and her image.

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part IV
Author’s note - Hi! So, I thought I posted part 4 last night after work, and I looked and it was gone. Not just form tumblr, but also my google docs so I had a heart attack. I cried since I had to rewrite it, but this one turned out better than the original in my opinion, so I hope you like it!
Summary - No amount of delaying could push the wedding off any longer. Deianira is forced to marry the tyrant that her father has sent her and her sister to bring down, yet she seems to grow a small soft spot for him.
Warning(s) - blood, violence, a bit of sexual abuse, public displays of affection; of you see any grammar mistakes or missed warnings please let me know!
Deianira’s eyes fluttered open as the sun shone through the curtains that billowed above the balcony. She smiled at the feeling of the sun warming her cheeks and the chill the gentle breeze brought. It would have been a day she would’ve loved to enjoy if it weren’t for the harsh realization that she was to be married today. Her smile faded as it weighed her down, making her groan as she threw her feet from off the side of the plush bed.
“Good morning, your grace. Today is the day!” Aelia entered with a tray of fresh fruits and bread that still steamed from its warmth. Aelia handed her an apple from the tray, smiling at the way her mistress scrunched her nose in distaste at her statement. “I know it’s not ideal, but I’m selfishly glad that you are stuck with me, ma’am.”
”There is no other woman who I enjoy being trapped in a grand palace with.”
Deia had spent all morning with Aelia and a few other maidservants, first getting scrubbed and polished in the bathhouse like a priceless artifact, emerging smelling of apple blossoms and pomegranate. They lined her eyes with kohl, rouged her cheeks a delicate cherry color, glossed her nails, and adorned her with jewels and finery from the top of her head to her toes. She looked like a proper empress now with all of the embellishments, not able to take her eyes off the new mirror that had been brought in while she bathed. The sight of herself made her forget just how miserable she felt only moments ago.
“They will be expecting you at the temple, empress. Come,” Aelia motioned for the future empress to follow as they delicately bounced through the halls, smiling and laughing.
In front of the temple, Deia’s sinking feeling returned as she stood on the other side of the doors, knowing just what awaited her on the other side.
“Lia, dear, how many people would you say are inside?”
”The whole court of important politicians and close friends of the emperors, I’m sure, but do not fret. Just look to your future husband and all shall turn out right.”
’If that doesn’t work, your sister is sure to be close to Caracalla; look at her and she shall erase all tension you feel,” another servant chimed in.
Deia faced the door once more, shimmying her feet further back into her sandals, and took one last deep breath before the door opened before her. The people stood and stared at her in awe, looking as if a true goddess had stepped in their midst. Deia forced her heavy lead feet forward, pushing herself to where Emperor Geta stood waiting for her. He had a smile on his face that didn’t quite reach his eyes. He seemed exhausted. She shook the thought from her head, instead opting for focusing on the floor. She couldn’t look at her sister or she would cry, knowing that there was no escape for either of them.
She grew closer and closer to the end of the aisle, her steps growing heavier with every pace she made. She stopped in front of the two stairs that kept her from Geta, a hand with a ring on every finger outstretching into her line of vision. She looked up to see her future husband smiling at her, and she took the hand, breaking the invisible barrier that kept her from standing at his side.
The officiant stood in front of the both of them, rambling on about the Gods in a monotonous, bland tone that made Deia want to yawn. She glanced at Geta through her peripheral, noticing he no longer smiled and looked like he had been drinking. He smelled as if he’d been drinking too. She turned back to the officiant, bored out of her mind. He continued to drone on, the future empress tuning him out and looking at the grand statue of the God Mars looking down on them, helmet just showing his eyes and spear in his hand. She looked at him wondering why his eyes seemed to be so full of life unlike the other statues she had seen around the palace. A cough broke her concentration on the statue, snapping her attention back to the officiant.
“You may kiss your bride, emperor.”
The two of them faced each other, Geta’s superficial smile returning to his face, as he reached a shaky hand toward her cheek. He leaned in, placing a kiss on her lips ever so gently. He pulled away, releasing a sigh. The crowd cheered for the newlywed couple.
A banquet was held with the same people who were at the ceremony to celebrate the new union and empress, food and the best reserves of wine were laid out on a grand table. Deia walked around without her groom, examining the decoration and getting stopped by a few people to voice their congratulations. She looked toward the center of the table, a rhinoceros head with its meats delicately and morbidly served as if it were a common dish. She shuddered at the sight, swallowing the bile that raised in her throat at the sight. She took deep breaths as she made to exit the banquet hall and look over the railing down at the city below. It was beautiful this time of night, the stars sparkled in the sky as the chatter of men and women of the market packed up their valuables to go back to their homes.
”Lovely, isn’t it?”
Deia startled and turned around quickly, bracing herself on the railing to prevent her fall. Geta chuckled at the reaction as he grew closer and looked out over the city beside her. “I love coming up here when the city looks like this. You can hear every conversation below from here.”
”It is quite nice,” Deia looked at him, her back still resting against the edge of the railing. “Have you come to push me over and tell the court that your young bride has met her untimely demise?”
Geta laughed once again. “I actually came to make sure you were alright. It must have been something quite bad for a bride to leave her own wedding celebration.”
”It was,” she looked at her feet, Geta looking at her now with a twinge of anger that someone could have potentially ruined the party for his empress. “There was a rhinoceros’s head just lying on the table. I thought surely I would become ill.”
Geta let out the loudest, most genuine laugh as his head fell into the palm of his hand, Deia’s tension flying away as she allowed herself to laugh with him. Geta relaxed in the silence, watching as the moonlight made his bride's hair resemble cooling embers. He felt at peace as if all the voices screaming in his head had silences to stand in awe of her as well. His peace was broken as the door opened, a voice growing closer. He didn’t think, it was stupid to pull her in, yet he did. He pushed the sleeve of her shoulder down and sank his teeth in, the other hand flying to her mouth before she could yelp.
”Oh, brother. I didn't mean to interrupt time with your bride… at least defile her in your own chambers instead of the corridors, dog.”
Geta pulled his mouth from Deia’s shoulder, turning to his brother. “I wished for everyone to know she was mine, that is all.”
”Well, they requested you back in the banquet hall. They wish to make a toast soon.”
Caracalla shook his head with a smirk as he returned to the celebration. Geta turned back to his bride, a swift, sturdy hit landed to his gut. He slumped to his knees in slow motion, seeing that Deianira had kicked him, which made him smirk through a grimace.
”If you wanted me to come to my knees, wife, all you had to do was ask.”
She grabbed him by the hair, yanking his head so he could look at her face. “A mark for a mark. To think I almost enjoyed a sliver of time with you. Know this, it shall be the last for as long as I breathe. Goodnight, husband.”
She dropped the hold she had on his hair, storming off toward her room and leaving him alone in the darkened hall. He collected himself off the floor, hearing Caracalla beginning a toast in the hall as he stood against the cold stone wall to listen in, still holding his stomach where it ached. Caracalla quipped that Geta was supposed to make the toast to his bride, but had most likely disappeared to consummate the marriage. The crowd of mostly men had laughed heartily, but Geta felt a pain in his chest. He knew why he had bitten her, but he doubted she would stop to hear him out. Still, he had to try to explain himself. He ran down the hallway that his bride had run down, trying to catch up.
Deia slammed the door to her bedchambers, letting all of her anger explode in a loud scream that echoed through the room and shook nearby objects. She took off rings and threw them on tables, taking one of her sandals off and chucking it at the door. The shoe sailed through the air, and Geta entered, ducking just in time to narrowly evade the hurling sandal.
“Have you come to sink your teeth in again, your highness, or was one lashing not enough for you?”
Geta glanced at the sandal that had slipped through the crack in the door he had just come through, then back at Deianira. “I hope you plan to get that later on.”
Deia growled, taking off the other sandal, ready to throw the second one. Geta held his hands up in surrender. “I came to see if you would hear me out.”
”I will hear nothing from you after your vulgar display. Get out or I swear my aim will ring true with this sandal.”
“You have to be the most stubborn woman of akk I have ever met, have you ever been told that?”
Deia shrugged, still holding the sandal above her head. “Once or twice before. Now leave me to my peace.”
”I don’t think you know the definition of peace. You seem to be of the bloodline of Mars.”
”I knew peace until you and your tyrant brother forced me here. Just because you knew no fatherly love does not mean you had to rip me and my sister from ours!” She got in his face, spittle flying to his cheek. The blow had been delivered, an arrow right through Geta’s chest. He felt as if it were a real attack and that he would crumble in a bloody heap on the floor.
”I shall grant you the peace you want. Goodnight, empress.”
As he left, closing the door behind him, the second sandal was launched, colliding with the door as it closed. The thud shaking Geta to his core.
Geta entered his own bed chambers, his servant behind him.
”Are you sure, emperor? This seems to be quite extreme.”
”Quite sure. If the court were to find out, they would treat her cruelly. We must ensure she stays in good graces. If you tell a soul, you shall be thrown in the Coliseum before first light, understood?”
The man watched the emperor as he sat on the bed with the small knife in his hand, holding the handle out to the servant. The servant nodded, taking the blade, and cut a small incision on the emperor’s thigh. Geta hissed, but bit it back as the crimson flowed and made a small pool on the white bed linens. He nodded, satisfied by the result, as the servant began to cleanse his leg. Though satisfied, Geta only stared into the red stain with a grim expression, his thoughts only echoing one thing: she will be safe now.

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part III
Hi! So I completely forgot to mention I was going to start by posting every other day since this time of year at work is CRAZY. I still hope all of you enjoy the story when I do post it, and yeah I think that’s all. Enjoy!
Summary - Deianira has sulked in her room in the days leading up to her wedding, worrying everyone of the court, her sister, and even the Emperor she is meant to marry.
Warning(s) - verbal abuse, shouting, throwing things, historical inaccuracy; please let me know if their are any warnings I missed or grammar mistakes
The few days leading up to the wedding, parties were held in the grand hall, though Deianira did not attend. She was sure that Emperor Geta would send soldiers to knock down the door and carry her there against her will, or maybe even would’ve done it himself, yet she still sat in her room, only leaving to go to the bathhouse with Aelia. Her sister had come to visit her the night she had not attended the first celebration, finding Deia in the bed unmoving. Publia instructed servants to bring her meals and told them she was ill.
Now, here she was yet again, lying in the plush bed with fresh, soft linens and looking up at the mosaic covered ceiling. Aelia entered, not even earning a startled jump from her mistress.
”I have brought your lunch, Empre- Deianira,” she corrected herself. Upon being told that Deia was ill—though even she knew she was well—she brought her breakfast and called her empress. Deia had stood to her feet and was shouting that she would never be empress, though she did apologize profusely to Aelia after realizing she was taking it all out on her only companion other than family.
“Leave it. I wish to be alone before I walk the aisle toward my demise,”
”Miss Deia, it can’t be all that bad. Being married to the emperor gives you so much freedom, your children shall be legitimate, and not to mention they will one day inherit the throne.”
”You wouldn’t understand, Lia, and I would not expect you to.”
Aelia sat on the bed, facing her future ruler. Her red hair appeared on fire in the sunlight that shone through. “It might surprise you just how much I understand.”
Deia looked at her, Aelia now noticing the puffiness of her eyes, so red they matched her hair.
“You know, malady, I was once married.” Aelia smiled at her hands resting in her lap, not noticing the shock on Deia’s face as she shot to sit up. “He was lovely. We were of no nobility, but I was given the liberty of choosing my own marriage. I had two beautiful sons as well.”
”What happened to them?” Deia grew closer to her companion, scooping up her hands in her own and holding them tightly.
”He was taken from me. I shall spare you the details, but he passed, and once my sons were of age, they wished to avenge their father. They were met with the same fate.”
Aelia wiped a stray tear, Deia still cradling her hands and stroking her knuckles in comfort.
”I should not burden a woman with such woe the night before she is to be married. Would you like to go to the bathhouse? We have new imported oils to use for your wedding… a gift from Emperor Geta.”
“I suppose since I am trapped, I may as well appreciate the gifts I have been given.”
Deia sat in the warm water, running her hand over the top to create ripples that distorted her figure below the surface. Aelia washed her hair with a pomegranate and fig soaps and oils to signify female fertility and long lasting commitment.
”I was in love like you once,” Deia broke through the silence. Aelia continued to wash the long red hair that had darkened from the moisture. “He promised that we would be wed after… after everything in my village began to quiet itself.”
”What was he like?”
”He was kind. He had brown eyes, though one was blinded and scarred from fighting to protect me once while we were still young. He grew to be so strong, as well. He was… everything a woman hears of in stories.”
”He sounds marvelous, my lady. I understand now… I am sorry that you are not with the man you wished for, but perhaps you will fall for the Imperator in time.”
No other words were said between the two of them, but it had been enough. Geta had heard tell that his future wife had left for the bathhouse and though he would never voice his concerns, he did grow worried about her. When he had arrived, Deianira had began talking about her love lost back home. He fumed, not moving as he clenched his fists until his nails bit into his palms and blood dripped onto the marble floor.
”Imperator, are you alright? Do you wish to return to your room?” His servant cowered behind him, praying to the Gods that he would agree and they could both avoid the altercation. His prayers were in vain, as Geta pushed the door open, hitting it against the wall and letting the sound reverberate though the bathhouse.
”Oh, so sorry to startle you, wife, I thought you would still be in bed.”
”well, I am feeling much better with Aelia’s care. I can take my leave and give you the bathhouse for the rest of the afternoon,” she shifted to rise while Aelia used a linen to guard her from the emperor’s gaze, but he held up his hand.
”Nonsense. We are to be married; it is no concern of mine if you were to stay. In fact, I insist.”
Deia nodded, sinking back into the water as Aelia refolded the linen and resumed scrubbing the lady’s hair.
“Although I understand that you wish to spend your days in the bathhouse with another man of much lower standing. It does not suit such an important standing woman as yourself.”
”I don’t know what you are referring to, imperator. I am to be your wife, whether I wish it or not,” she brought her knees to her chest to shield what little of her figure he may see through the water.
”There’s no need to lie to me, Deia. I am emperor and must hear all the voices of Rome and their woes,” his jaw ticked as he splayed his arms out against the side of the pool.
”I assure you, I have no need to lie to the man I am to marry.”
He stared at her with blooming fury, using his hard gaze like he usually had to make people cower and confess, but it only made him angrier that she was an exact mirror. The silence was thick enough to cut with shears, and the servants’ movements were tense at the interaction.
”I was beginning to wonder what ailment had fallen upon you. You have not been to a single celebration in honor of our engagement, and yet here I find you, being pampered like a most loved pet. With the fineries I bought you, no less.”
”I am quite alright. I was not feeling my best, but I shall be ready for tomorrow. Do not fret too much about me,” she didn’t look at him as she continued playing in the water as if it were far more intriguing than he was. Aelia had finished washing long ago, but she could not bring herself to interrupt the emperor in fear of losing her head.
”Are you quite sure you’re ready? You must be certain. After all, if you discover you are not, and I catch wind of any infidelity on your part, even just a man looking at you, I shall cut their tongues out and serve it to you before locking you in my bedchambers for the rest of my life, little snake.”
”You believe me to be a whore? I am offended you would call your soon-to-be wife something so sinister, emperor. I shall be faithful, as this marriage is at least legitimate, whether I were to love you or not.”
Aelia held up the linen, letting Deianira climb out of the water shielded, before wrapping her and fastening her dress just to wear back to the room.
”Forgive me for my departure, emperor, but I must go prepare for our wedding tomorrow,” she bowed to him, eyes cold as she stared at him the entire time. “I shall see you tomorrow at the altar.”
Deia’s hair had been dry for some time now as she twisted the glossy red waves around her finger and took in the new scent. She sat in the small chair in the corner next to the ornate mirror, picking up her hairbrush and combing it through as she stared at a shell of herself looking back.
The door swung open, Geta marching toward her. As soon as she looked toward him, he was right in front of her, snatching the brush from her hands and throwing it against the mirror causing it to shatter and pieces to fly across the floor. She dared not to flinch and show that he frightened her or he may become more hostile.
”You dare embarrass me like that!” He shouted in her face as she stared at him with the same lifeless eyes she had given him earlier.
”How did I do such a thing, emperor?”
“You have not been to a single celebration. You made excuses that you were unwell that made people worry for you, when really you were sulking,” he spit the last word. “You lied right to my face about what I overheard just outside the bathhouse, and in front of the help, no less. I should have you confined to my room for the rest of your days!”
“I pray you do! I have been ill: I have been sick of the idea that I must marry you of all people. I wish to be home instead of being forced to marry someone like you!”
”My little snake, your insolence knows no bounds. I would give you all you could ask for and it still would not be satiable for you, would it? I have tried to be gentle with you, dear, but it is hard for me to believe that anyone could ever have loved you!”
Deia stood her ground, but she felt choked. Her eyes and throat began to burn as she held back her bitterness for the words
“It is hard for me to believe that anyone could ever love you!”
Geta faltered at the sight, her brown eyes staring at him angrily as they glassed over. He felt the pang in his chest and couldn’t comprehend its origins. He pulled his face back to stone, not letting her see that her emotion caused him to stumble before he walked out the room briskly, slamming the door behind him and rattling Deia’s insides.

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part II
Summary - The two sisters finally stand face to face with the emperors, but things are starting to spiral out of control for them both, but they still must ensure their plans go accordingly.
Warning(s) - slight violence, historical inaccuracies, some non consensual touch; if I missed any warnings or you see any grammatical errors, feel free to let me know!
The carriage slowed to a stop in front of the Roman palace. Deianira allowed her sister to step free of the carriage, then with her sister’s assistance stepped out herself. The rope had burned her skin raw with every bump and jostle of the carriage, small dried tracks of blood apparent on her arms and staining the rope. Soldiers were on either side of her and her sister as they were led to their new fate. Though her bitterness was still fresh, she enjoyed looking at the grandeur of the palace, even if it was under furrowed brows. The smell of fruit trees in the courtyard was a pleasant and welcome distraction to her impending doom as well. The two sisters stood before a grand door, waiting in agony as it slowly was pulled open to reveal a long velvet carpet leading to two thrones where the tyrants sat. Publia walked ahead with the soldiers on her sides, but Deia refused to move. A swift push and knock into her back shoulder blade forced her forward, telling herself that the pain would subside as long as she followed her father’s instructions carefully.
“General Acacius. What wonders have you retrieved from Publius?”
She dared not look up. Her anger would get the better of her and she would surely charge for his throat and latch like a wild dog.
She heard the footsteps, guessing it was the emperor examining the goods that he believed her and her sister to be.
“This one is pleasant looking. Quite beautiful blonde hair,” a different one spoke. She couldn’t yet discern which one was which between the two, all she knew was that she despised them both.
”Thank you, Emperor. I’m honored to be graced with your comment,” your sister spoke softly.
“What about this one? She has blood all over her clothing. Not to mention that she hasn’t even looked up yet.”
“Caracalla, please, let us see what she has to offer us before we cast her away. General, why is she covered in blood? Surely it is not her own.”
So, the one speaking was Emperor Geta. She thought about how if she snapped at Geta, acted like a wild woman, how maybe her father’s words about Caracalla would ring true and he would wish to turn her to a meek and mild woman of class.
”Well, Imperator, at the village she stabbed Koran in the throat. She was bound before the journey, but she still managed to kill three other men. I walked in and beheld her next to the two bodies.”
”And what of the third?” Caracalla spoke taking a step further from her.
“He was trying to fight her off, your graces, but… she had him by the throat with her teeth.”
What a strong little Roman flower you are,” Emperor Geta now lifted your chin with his pointer finger and thumb, now allowing you to see what he was. If she had no knowledge of what he was like, she would think he was quite handsome, his honey colored hair with the slightest tint of red, his dark eyes like chestnuts lined with kohl, and the sharp features of his nose and jaw. Shaking the thoughts from her head, she knew the moment to strike was now. Deianira snapped as if trying to bite Geta, her teeth still tinged red from the blood of biting into the other man’s neck.
”More like a Roman serpent.” Caracalla smirked, nudging his brother. “What are we to do with nothing but simple whores? Do we not possess enough of them?”
”These are Publius’s daughters, emperor,” Marcus stood beside the emperors, telling them as if it were a big secret.
Geta and Caracalla exchanged a look with small smirks before turning back to the merchandise.
“So, Geta, which will be your choice?”
”I do love the fighting spirit of this one,” he looked down at you with darkened eyes.
”I was so hoping you would say that. Or perhaps you considered my fondness for the pliable variety.”
Publia’s eyes grew round. She looked at her sister, for the first time since talking with their father about the plan, with dread. She would never survive under the rough hand of Caracalla; Deianira knew it and so did her sister, but there was no arguing with the emperors on their decision.
”Acacius, unrope my new pet. I must begin taming this wild thing.”
The general hesitated but nodded, pulled a knife from his hip, and cut the ropes that bound you, letting them pool in the floor around your feet.
”Those cords did a number on your arms, my dear Serpens. But none the matter, we shall get servants to bathe you before tonight. Follow.”
”I am no bitch, Imperator. I will not be treated as such.”
”You make me laugh, little pet, but if I say come, you ask ‘Would you like me to crawl?’. Understood?”
Deianira furrowed her brows, looking him in the eyes as if she were trying to kill with her gaze. She yielded, bowing mockingly without removing her gaze from his.
”As you wish, Imperator. Lead the way.”
Geta smirked down at where she bowed. “You may be easier to break yet.”
He turned and began walking away. She glanced once more at her sister who cowered under the gaze of Caracalla, sympathy shooting through her heart before she turned to follow the other brother.
”So, pet, what is your name?”
”As if such an inadequate matter bothers you so.” I know yours, and that is all that is required of me.”
”I shall milk it from you one way or the other. I’m sure your sweet sister shall tell me with enough persuasion.”
”You are not to touch my sister, no matter what position you hold, or I shall be your end.”
”Oh come now. If I were to touch her, she would cry and beg for more. As would you, little serpent.”
”I shall not be the one begging, but you, Imperator. Your eyes will not grace my sister or I shall pluck them from your head.”
”Mmm, must you tease me? I grow to like you more and more.”
This stunned her into silence. Her face stayed like stone, but she had forgotten almost entirely that he was unhinged and didn’t simply possess a temper like she did.
”Ah, that sealed your pretty lips, didn’t it? How charming.”
She continued to follow him, staring holes into his back as he continued to lead her down long corridors with spotless marble floors of white and tall walls that made her feel as if she were 3 inches tall.
“Here is your room in which you will spend the next five days or so. A handmaid will arrive to bathe you and retrieve you some new clothing.”
he closed the door, not letting her get in a last word. Her fury had reached its peak as she hauled off and kicked the door making everything in the room shake and caused an echo out in the hallway.
She turned to examine the room, immediate awe filling her features. The bed was like hers, but all white satin fabrics, the frame trimmed with real gold. A chair sat in the corner next to a table of jewels for her hair and a hairbrush of gold and boar’s hair. Every corner was so white and intricate it almost hurt her eyes to behold. She walked around examining everything, picking up objects and turning them over in her hands to take in the splendor of each one. As she ran her fingers against the gold backing of the hairbrush, the door sighed as it was pushed open.
”Madam, my name is Aelia. I shall be your handmaid from this day forth, though you will have many others that will take care of your many needs.”
Deia placed the hairbrush down quickly, smiling at the new guest genuinely.
”It must be exhausting to come all this way by carriage. Did you and your sister have a pleasant trip nonetheless?”
”It could have been slightly more pleasant, I will not lie to you. Quite difficult to rest when your arms are bound to your side for three days.”
Aelia spun from her spot to flash her new lady a look of horror.
”I beg your pardon? Why in the gods’ names did they bind you?”
“I’d rather not disclose. I would hate it if the first pleasant encounter I’ve had here is spoiled… I wouldn’t want to taint your view of me so prematurely.”
”I’m sorry for prying my lady, I certainly did not intend to offend you. Let us retreat to the bathhouse. We must get that blood off of your fair skin.”
As Aelia gently brushed away the crusted crimson, coating Deia’s body in floral soaps and expensive oils, they spoke about what their lives were like, what was planned for the lady’s hair, and laughed together. When she was all clean and smelled of pears and blossoms of some sort, she was wrapped in a clean linen to walk back to her sleeping chamber.
As Deia sat at the stool, looking through the jewels and gemstones to choose from in her hair, Aelia placed a new, dark forest green stola on the bed with the utmost care, as if it was made of glass and would shatter if she moved too quickly.
”Your silk from China will make your form one to rival Venus,” she smoothed the dress down with her delicate hands.
”Oh that is lovely! I’ve never seen such a captivating stola in my years.”
”Imperator Geta chose this stola himself a few moons back.”
”Must you ruin the glorious dress by telling me of its origins?” Deianira smiled, earning a laugh like a songbird from her new confidante.
“We must have you looking as extravagant as the emperor in order for things to go well tonight. This party will be crucial for you and your sister both.”
Deianira smiled, letting the thoughts of her meek sister having as pleasant of an experience as her. Of course, the smile faded at the thought that she would end up bedded by the rougher most demented of the twins, his rough hands and body pushing her to the point of tears. She shook the thoughts away, letting her friend dress her then do her hair in intricate braids. The kohl around her eyes and rouge on her cheeks she did herself, wanting to feel like she still had a grip on some semblance of herself.
She walked behind the soldier quietly, letting him lead her through the corridor, closer to a closed door with loud, muffled voices on the other side. She jumped ahead of the guard, pushing the door open herself and letting it slam against the wall. All chatter stopped. Everyone’s heads turned, a woman had spilled a little wine from jumping, or so she presumed. Deianira’s sister sat in the lap of Caracalla, looking at you with eyes full of mischief. She knew every game that her sister played; though she was never one for an absurd amount of attention, she knew very well that Deianira was never one to back down when faced with matters such as these, and would always make a scene when the need arose. Deia walked along the palace floors, people murmuring amongst themselves as she took them all in, grabbing a chalice of wine from a stranger’s hand, bowing while sipping out of it as she approached the thrones where the tyrant twins perched. Caracalla was still whispering to her sister, pawing at her legs and hips, but Emperor Geta bore a smirk as his chin rested on his fist watching the woman’s every move.
”Emperor,” she stood between the two thrones swirling the strong wine around in her goblet.
”I trust everything was to your liking?” He looked up at her through dark eyelashes and kohl lined eyes.
“Everything was adequate, I suppose,” she signaled Aelia for her refill.
“Why don’t you sit? You must be quite tired from your journey here.”
”As if I would sit in your lap. You would enjoy it too much,” she smirked, scrunching her nose simultaneously.
Geta let out a low chuckle, scooting to the side away from her. “If you must be so difficult all of the time, you can sit on the armrest.”
She accepted his offer, resting against the armrest yet still maintaining her posture.
”So, little snake, I have something I’ve been dying to ask you since we met this morning.”
”Would you prefer me to remain difficult?”
”Hear me first before you begin snapping your fangs at me,” he smiled leaning in closer, still looking up at her. “What did it feel like when you put an end to those four soldiers?”
There was a pause as she mulled over the question, chewing it carefully like she might choke on it.
“It was liberating. They were trying to hurt people I cared for, and I had no reservations before or after it had been done. I bathed in their fear and blood until they ceased to move.”
His smile grew so much wider, almost sinister. “So you enjoy bringing pain onto others then? Not what I expected from the daughter of a Patrician.”
”You have the wrong impression of me, imperator. I simply killed because I had need of it; you kill because you enjoy the suffering of man.”
”I think you and I are more alike than you would care to think, anima. I do not kill for sport, I kill for the disrespect that they give and to bring fear to others so it rarely happens again.”
”We are nothing alike. You are nothing more than a tyrant that craves power that will always be just out of his reach.”
”Quite the silver tongue on you. I will fix that soon enough.”
”You haven’t the means to fix anything about me.”
”I beg to differ. Any woman in this hall can attest that when I was with them, they would plead for more.”
”I get the sense you wish to bed me, emperor?”
”Believe me, little snake,” he grasped both of her hips, pulling her into his lap, “my desires go far beyond a bed.”
She felt him grow stiff beneath her, stealing the words from her throat.
“That is the second time I’ve rendered you silent today. Perhaps you are more of a mouse than a serpent.”
”More like a diseased rat,” Caracalla chimed in. “Nothing like this little dove I possess.”
”Oh, brother, she will turn mouse soon enough. Before we can conquer the world, sooner will I conquer her and have her begging for release.”
”Sister, why do they speak as if we are not here? Do they believe us to be such dull creatures?” Deianira sat up a little straighter, sipping all the wine in her goblet down in one gulp, wiping the stray droplet that came from the corner of her mouth.
”Deia, hush!” Her sister acted shocked at the words, but she knew her sister was not one to sit while being discussed like a timid little wife.
”You know, Deia” Geta leaned toward her ear, making her grimace at the way her name felt on his tongue, “I wish to know what you hide to have such a mouth on you. You speak as if you’re clinging to some kind of priceless treasure.” His hand roamed to her inner thigh, working his way further upward. “I intend to take it from you, and you will give it gladly.”
”Why, so assumptious of you, imperator. I have nothing to give, I’m afraid.”
”Do not fret, for it will be mine to take soon enough.”
He shifted her back to her position on the armrest and stood with goblet in hand. The entire court silenced as they viewed him with adoration, waiting for him to speak.
“Court of Rome! I have joyous news this hour: I, the vessel of the Gods, have chosen an Empress for the people. A fighting spirit with whom I wish to share the kingdom! Meet your future empress, Deia!” He grabbed Deianira arm, pulling her up and into his side. She stared at the crowd, the warmth of his side against hers making her feel like she was burning. He leaned into her ear, smirking against her wavy red hair. “Now is the time to tell me your full name, lest the whole kingdom believe it is Deia for the rest of your days.”
She looked at him with a blank expression, but he could tell that she was fuming.
She spoke through gritted teeth, “Deianira.”
“Deianira and I shall be wed in 3 days time!”
The crowd in the hall clapped, cheered and sipped their wine in celebration, Geta smiling at his subjects while Deia stared at him almost defeatedly.
The party still raged on the other side of the door, but she could not be in there. She needed the air. She felt like she was suffocating. She heard the doors open behind her, looking to see her sister with an empathetic expression.
”So, you are to be married to Emperor Geta,” she smiled, though it didn’t quite reach her eyes.
”This is not how things were supposed to go. What do we tell father? You cannot be trapped with Caracalla; he is worse than his brother and will ruin you. What if you become with child?!”
Publia wrung her hands together, not meeting her sisters eyes. “He told me something very interesting today… after he bedded me.”
”What did he tell you?”
”He is unable to produce any heirs. That is all.”
There was a thick silence before Publia tried to comfort her sister. “At least you are to be married! Your children shall be legitimate, and shall inherit the kingdom once they are overthrown. Just like father said, all shall work itself out.”
”But what about-“ she took a deep breath to lower her volume, “what about what Atticus and I shared? He always told me that jerk all of this was said and dpme, we would be united in front of the Gods for all to see.”
”I know. I’m sorry, dear sister. Perhaps after all is said and done, and Geta no longer rules, you and Atticus may still get your happy ending.”
Deia nodded, her sister wrapping her arms around her and hugging her tightly.

FVRY OF THE FIRE

Part I
Summary - Two young daughters and their Patrician father live just outside of Rome in a small village. For the sake of their father’s revolution against the twin tyrant emperors, she and her sister must play the part of lovestruck concubines, even if one of them has too much of a fiery temper to pretend to like the arrogant Emperor Geta.
Warning(s) - binding with rope, abusive behavior (not from Geta), graphic violence, attempted SA, blood, broken bones, not historically accurate. I’m not sure what else, but if you see something else including any edits needed, let me know!
Deianira stirred in her bed from the smell of smoke and the sound of shrieks. Her eyes shot open and she leapt from her bed, brushing the red hair away from her face with her hands as she rushed toward her window. Her brown eyes grew wide as the temple across from her home began disintegrating as it grew more and more ablaze. Soldiers lined the outside, one atop a black horse, as a bulky soldier gripped at a woman’s hair as she knelt on the ground screaming pleas to let her children live. Deianira threw on her clothes in a rush and came rushing down the stairs. Her father stood at the door watching in agonizing silence.
“Father, do something! They’ll kill her and her children!”
Her father only stood frozen, unable to respond. She huffed out a breath of frustration as she pushed past her father, rushing toward the woman.
“We will only ask this once more: where is the man who rules over this village?” the soldier, who you could now see the glinting gold of the Roman insignia on his breastplate, shouted in the woman’s face as he pulled her long hair even further toward the sky. She yelped at the sensation while her two young sons shouted and sobbed for the army to leave their mother alone.
“Let that woman be! What crime has she committed to deserve such callous ruthlessness?”
The soldier’s head shot in her direction, the woman and children now quiet as they stared at their neighbor in fear. The man dropped the woman’s head as she fell to the ground on her face. He began to approach her, tall and burly frame stalking closer and closer like a leopard on the prowl. He stood directly in front of her face, towering over her and spitting on the ground just next to her unclothed feet.
“What right does a bitch have to feel the need to incessantly bark?!” He brought the back of his hand to her face making her stumble to the side. She stayed looking down, her hand slowly moving for the dagger at her side under her dress. He stepped closer to her, yelling blashphemous words at her as he knelt to her ear level just to insult her. He couldn’t get all of his verbal abuse past his lips as her knee came up to meet his croin then her dagger plunged into his throat. He stumbled back several steps with her following, the knife still lodged into his larynx, only pushing harder as he tried to move away. He looked at her with the last light in his eyes as his knees sank to the dirt right beside the woman he had just been tormenting. Deianira spit by his knees before pulling the crimson covered weapon away from his jugular as he fell face first into the red mud.
The general stared at her, unyielding of any emotion but his eyes possessed the faintest hint that he was impressed.
“Forgive my soldier,” the general hopped from the left side of his horse, petting its neck then stepping closer to the petite but obviously dangerous woman in front of him, who still held the dagger chest level and ready to attack once more. “He never has been very tactful. Though I will say, it is a shame you had to kill the fellow.”
“What is it that you Empire scum want with my village?” she hardened her exterior to not let her guard down; he could have only been acting cordially in order to strike her down, after all.
“We have our orders to find Publius, the man who this city follows.”
“What has my father done to incur the wrath of the imperators?”
“Unfortunately your father has refused to send the taxes of the townsfolk to their highnesses, and they took it as a sign he may begin an upheaval.”
“That is nonsense!” your father hobbled to your side. “I would never do a thing to seem like a transgression against my emperors. I beg of you, let me recompense my unintentional transgressions. I shall repay tenfold.”
“Father, you cannot be serious,” Deianira looked at her father. He quickly shot her a look signalling her that she had ashamed him enough. She sealed her lips to prevent any further disgrace to befall him.
“If you and your men wish to wait here for a moment, I shall go inside and wake the servants so they may prepare what you are owed.”
“Very kind, sir. The imperators thank you for your continuous support.”
Deianira’s father nodded to the general before beckoning her back into the house with his hand on her back. Once they were inside, her father closed the door and her sister, Publia, waited with her arms crossed over her chest and yet her wavy blonde hair looked as if it had just been brushed, perfect as ever.
“By the gods, what has happened to you, Deianira?” She brushed her soft cream colored hands across the cheek the soldier had struck, feeling the sting of her touch through the skin.
“Now is not the time. Father, why cower to those soldiers? We have wanted this rebellion to commence for a decade now. Why not stand against the tyrants that sit on the throne?”
“I have my reasons, girl. If you truly want to help our cause–the both of you–I suggest you come near and listen to me carefully. I shall not force on you anything you do not wish to do… We have all discussed the dangers of this revolt, and you both know what is at risk… what you may have to lay down for the sake of the people around us.”
“Father, please. Tell us what you are thinking,” Publia stepped closer to him.
Publius sighed, shaking his head, “I will send the gold and treasures to the emperors, along with my two daughters for an apology.”
“No,” Deianira scrunched her brows, hurt by the notion that their father would pass them along as if they were treasures to be claimed.
“Hear me first, daughter. Your sister is of the meek persuasion. She will make a good fit to tempt Emperor Geta. You, on the other hand, are fiery and hot tempered. Emperor Caracalla will love the challenge of trying to tame the wild beast. If you were to go, you could be a potential consort of the two rulers and bring them to their knees, also giving me the time to build up our recruits and prepare them for the slaughter.”
“But father, if we become nothing more than a consort, we may lose the chance to marry,” Deianira furrowed her brows, holding back her pending explosion of fury from her family.
“She does have a point, father. Not to mention if we are consorts, what shall become of us if we become with child? Should we be exiled, never to see you or any of our loved ones ever again?”
“I understand, and as I stated, I shall not force you both to do this if you do not wish it, but if you do this, we may yet save our people. But you both knew that this revolution could come with great risks.”
SIlence loomed overhead like a broadsword on a small string. Publia was the first to break it.
“I must live up to the name that is yours as well as mine. We are for the people, and I shall be anywhere the rebellion has use for me.”
Deianira hesitated, fighting her head which said to stay under the small blanket of safety in the village, and her heart which cried for the revolution.
“I shall also go. My name my mother gave me might not be of Roman descent, but she gave it to me with purpose.”
Father had the servants carry out gold and treasures in carts, one right after the other. The handmaiden dressed the two doomed sisters in beautiful, luxurious dress for their journey before sending them off with only a few of their close items. The eldest sister walked out the door first as Deia’s father stopped her.
“I want you to heed my words. I do not want you to relent your animosity. Act as if you are being forced to go. Fight them as much as you possibly can until you feel as if Caracalla has “tamed” you. Go forth with the fire of your hair.”
She nodded one last time to her father before he walked her out toward the general.
The general stood beside his horse, waiting for the two women. “Thank you once more, Publius. Your daughters will be well taken care of.”
“Thank you, General Acacius. I am sure they will be taken care of with the utmost diligence.” Your father lowered his head to Acacius in respect.
“However, my men do insist we tie this one to ensure the safety of the rest of the men.”
Deianira smiled with a scoff. “You believe rope will be enough to stop my wrath? If I wish it, I shall bear my teeth to your mens’ throats.”
The rope was tight against her arms as two soldiers wrapped it around her, pinning them to the sides of her torso. A man helped her sister into a carriage, then her, making sure to give her the ample support without the use of her arms.
Before they knew it, the carriage and militia surrounding them made their leave, all of them but two looking back at the smoke from the attack.
The sisters jostled down paths in the carriage that held them, Publia sleeping soundly as Deianira squirmed against the ropes that burned her skin, trying to release some of the pressure. The carriage slowed to a stop, and more bustling noise could be heard from outside it. Publia peeked over the edge where she sat on the floor of the cart, watching as men carried their food cargo in crates and satchels to start camp. She squatted back to her sister’s level ,letting her know what was happening. The women sat as they watched men building tents and a few fires around them as the sun sank further and further down.
General Acacius approached the two of them, “We have a tent for the two of you to share ready if you would like to relax for the night. Dinner will be ready momentarily.”
Deia’s sister pulled her to her feet and led her to the tent. As time passed, she still remained bound, her sister forced to feed her since she lacked the ability to do it herself, and also made up her bedroll. The sun had completely set on the camp, and it grew quieter. The two women slept soundly, though Deianira began to shift in her bedroll at the increase of close sounds. She groggily opened her eyes and looked toward her sister, and was immediately fully awake. A soldier held a knife to her throat and another hand against her mouth, Publia’s skirt showing her loincloth undergarments as she cried quietly and shook. the man had not yet noticed that she was awake, so she knew she had to act fast, but how would she fend him off still bound? In a matter of instinct, she charged for him and threw her full body weight at him like a spear, feet first into his side. The man grunted as he rolled onto the floor, Deia taking it as a sign to head but him with all of her strength. His head fell to the tent floor, rolling over onto hi back as he groggily put his hands against his forehead in anguish. Deianira straddled him, pushing her bare foot against his neck, then snaking the other around to hold his head firm and watch his face turn blue. He grappled for the lost weapon, pawing at her with the other in an attempt to get her off, before he slowly stopped, all light leaving his eyes and head falling to the side still discolored.
Two more guards rushed in from the commotion, seeing the display and their deceased brother. One charged toward Deia, knocking her on her back and off of the dead soldier. He ran toward her with the knife that had been discarded on the floor, but she kicked with both legs into his rib cage, knocking the breath from his lungs. The other grabbed her off the floor by her torso and held her back against him, giving the other soldier an opportunity to attack. He came closer with the knife twirling in his fist and fury in his eyes, panting to try and recover his lost breath. Deianira kicked behind her into the mans knee cap, pushing it into a wrong angle as he screamed before lifting her other leg to kick the man in the same place as the one that was behind her and now on the floor. He cut at her leg, earning a hiss of pain, charging another attack with the blade at her. As if a wild tiger, she ran forward and bit into his neck hard. He screamed at first, then began to gargle. She tasted the metallic taste of his blood, smelled it as it burned at her eyes, but she didn’t relent. If he moved , she bit in harder. He fell to the ground in a heap, still struggling for death, and she still held tightly with her teeth as she collapsed with him. General Acacius stormed in, tens of soldiers behind him now and staring on in horror. Deia finally felt the breathing stop under her lips and let go. Her mouth, legs and arms were covered in a mix of her and the soldiers’ blood sitting criss cross on the tent floor while her sister cowered in the corner. She panted, spitting as much blood from her mouth as possible, tears burning her eyes from the blood exposure.
”Do forgive me, general… they attacked my sister.”
He only nodded, looking at the floor and two bedrolls that had blood splotches scattered on them, then to the girl sitting on the ground covered in blood like a carnivore after devouring a good hunt, and finally to the sister who still remained in her bedroll hat had escaped without a drop of blood or scratch on her.
”We unfortunately have no way for you to clean up, nor anything to change into. Please, get some rest. I shall be outside your tent to ensure nothing like this happens again.”
Publia hugged her sister’s back while the other soldiers dragged their dead companions from the tent leaving a trail of blood behind and the two sisters shared their bedroll that night out of fear for what was to come.
