           “ well, i suppose that depends on how you define useful, ”  he says, almost looking sheepish as he helps to move some of his papers out of her space. useful to him? MAYBE. he was still working on that, sorting through the mass amounts of paper in a disarray that was typical for him ( though far more EXTREME this time considering just how much he’d encroached on sarah’s space ). useful for anyone else in their academic field? DOUBTFUL. unless they wanted to be a laughingstock right along with him simply for entertaining his ( controversial to say the least ) theories. 

           “  i tend to prefer the standard definition,  ”    she replies, smile widening at the sight of his discomfiture. leaning back in her chair, she watches silently for a moment as he shuffles some of his papers out of the way. she supposes that she can’t really give him much grief. her own organization system is -- as a previous office mate once described -- an anal retentive hellscape of post-it notes, file folders, and color coding. how can any mere mortal adhere to those standards?    “  are they useful to you?  ”    she clarifies after a moment.

           “ yes, clearly i should’ve chosen a language you DON’T know. i won’t be making THAT mistake again, ”  he says, rolling his eyes &. moving to where his notebook laid on the table — thankfully untouched. even if he couldn’t trust vala not to go snooping around his computer whenever he wasn’t around, he could at least trust her not to delete anything IMPORTANT. hopefully. in the meanwhile, he’d have to come up with a new password. something ancient, maybe? nothing so obvious as the word password this time, though, just in case vala knew more ancient than she let on. or perhaps wraith. even he was only just beginning to understand THAT.  “ are you happy now that you’ve successfully invaded my privacy? ”

        she pursed her lips, head tilting to the side, as if she needed time to come to the answer already on the tip of her tongue.    “  hmmm -- i wish i could say i was.  ”    a hand drifted to the keyboard where it began tapping idly, skimming through a few of the menus she’d managed to access before he’d so rudely interrupted her.    “  i would be much happier if your expertly protected files were a little less tedious... where do you keep the juice, daniel? all your old mission reports?  ”    a wide, almost predatory grin spread across her face then.    “  i’m sure there’s more than a little bit of interest there. valuable artifacts? deciphered alien codes? sordid tales of girls on every planet?  ”    she lifted her eyebrow on the last point.

         “  tell that to the amazon rainforest,  ”    she replied, shooting him a pointed look. but really her concerns weren’t environmental so much as they were personal. his stacks of notes and photocopies had steadily migrated from his desk to hers until she could hardly move an inch without finding some of his work intruding on her own. with an exasperated sigh, she pushed yet another stack of translations out of her way. at last she looked up at him, an almost resigned smile on her face.    “  alright then, tell me. did anything useful come of these printouts? or shall we just be papering the office with them?  ”    she said, one brow lifting in amusement.

         “  yes well -- that was your mistake, wasn’t it?  ”    she said, a rather pleased smile on her lips as she leaned back in his desk chair. as if to make her point even more clearly, she casually put her feet up on his desk and turned her gaze back to his easily-accessed computer.    “   i’d have thought someone with your intellect would have known better than to leave me alone like this, but --  ”    she shrugged and her grin grew wider. she leaned forward then, dropping her voice to a theatrical whisper.    “  by the by, perhaps making your password the goa’uld for password wasn’t your wisest idea, darling...  ”

          “  and where, dare i ask, would be the fun in that? the... liberation of the treasure is the most exciting part! ”    well, that wasn’t really true. the fun part was when her pockets were heavy with the weight of whatever she’d earned for her troubles. but she was hardly about to deny herself a little thrill if it came her way...    “  now!  ”    she said defiantly, tossing her dark hair over her shoulder and pulling the parchment towards her.    “  if it’s a riddle it’s hardly going to be a match for us...  ”
