Green Guardian: Week 3 (Finals) - Sharpening Our Edge: Understanding the Competition
"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." – Steve Jobs
This week, the Green Guardian team tackled an important step – competitor analysis! By understanding who else is in the game, we can refine our approach and ensure the Green Guardian stands out.
Identifying the Competition:
We explored existing solutions that address plastic waste, including:
1. Basic Garbage Cans: These offer a convenient way to dispose of trash but don't incentivize recycling or reduce plastic volume.
2. Junkshops: While they offer some financial reward for collected plastics, they may not be readily accessible or focus on specific types of plastic waste.
Lean Canvas: Zooming In on Our Value Proposition
Our lean canvas presentation further highlighted our core strengths:
Problem: Excessive plastic waste generation harming the environment.
Solution: The Green Guardian, a reverse vending machine that incentivizes recycling and shreds plastic for efficient processing
Alternatives: Although alternatives exist, they lack elements like rewards, volume reduction, and a focus specifically on plastic bottles.
Through analyzing the competition and presenting our unique value proposition through the lean canvas, we've gained valuable insights. This knowledge empowers us to refine the Green Guardian and position it as the most effective solution for tackling plastic waste generation in our community.
Stay tuned for next week's blog where we'll delve deeper into our Green Guardian prototype and its development!

Turning Plastic Woes into Green Goals: Our Week in Games and Innovation
This week, our team embarked on a journey to tackle one of the world's most pressing issues: plastic waste generation. We dove into a unique game called "Fishbowl Discussion and Blind Spots Exploration," which not only helped us explore the problem but also sparked an innovative solution.
Diving into the Unknown:

Our chosen topic? Plastic waste generation! We divided ourselves into players and observers, delving into deep discussions and filling a "Know/Don't Know" matrix. This matrix revealed some fascinating gaps in our understanding, prompting questions like:
"What hidden knowledge does this issue hold?"
"How can we uncover the secrets to tackling plastic waste effectively?"
This exploration unearthed a wealth of "Don't Know/Don't Know" areas, pushing us to think outside the box.
Building Memories and Inspiration:

After our insightful discussions, we strengthened our team spirit by creating a "Memory Wall." This wall wasn't just for sentimental value; it served as a reminder of the collaborative spirit needed to address complex challenges like plastic pollution.
From Insights to Innovation:
Our journey didn't stop there. Inspired by the game and our newfound awareness, we brainstormed a unique solution: a machine that incentivizes proper plastic disposal!
Introducing the "Green Guardian":

Imagine a machine that encourages people to responsibly discard plastic bottles. By simply tossing their bottles into the "Green Guardian," individuals earn rewards while contributing to a cleaner environment. This machine wouldn't just collect plastic; it would shred it, minimizing its volume and facilitating further processing.
The Road Ahead:
We're still in the early stages of developing this innovative concept, but the possibilities are exciting. The "Green Guardian" could incentivize responsible waste disposal, reduce plastic pollution, and even create new opportunities for recycling and repurposing.
This blog post is just the beginning of our journey towards a greener future. We're excited to see where this game-inspired innovation takes us and invite you to join us in the fight against plastic waste!
