ooc;; I forgot to post the stuff I got for my b-day. @lostinyourfacade got me the Debbie doll which I've wanted 4ever. Than I got my two other fav OP characters outside of Helmeppo lol

ooc;; Have a extremely rushed / bullet points of new / old ideas for Debbie's backstory. ( I will write up a more detailed story tho ) 5 year old Debbie before & after foster care / living with her Grandma and Grandpa Thornberry.

Nigel and Mariann signed onto a 5 year contract to make a documentary about the African savanna. ( Which I'll talk abt tht too bc I have more ideas ) Debbie was still a baby at the time, so she went with them on their job. Over the years the family made friends a few indigenous tribes in Africa, so if Debbie wasn't at the campsite she was playing with the other children or learning something new. They would often trade things with others for whatever they needed.

A tourist that was on a guided tour ended up calling CPS after seeing Debbie playing with a pride of lions ( the same ones who kept her safe when she had gotten away from her parents when she was 3, link to the super old idea ) Debbie was placed in foster care- she was in two foster homes before her grandma Thornberry pulled some strings and was able to take Debbie.

While her parents worked on getting custody of Debbie back, her parents moved from Africa back to her mom's childhood home. Dealing with pregnancy, taking parenting classes and doing everything under the sun to get their daughter back.

Her grandma taught her to be a proper young lady, to be civilized and not like a wild animal. Debbie HATED- the etiquette classes, quiet hands, all the weird rich people food. Although Debbie's time living with her grandparents wasn't all bad, she got to spend a lot of time outside in nature with her grandpa, gardening with her grandma.

Eliza was born not long after they got custody of Debbie. Which they lived /raised the girls in America, they lived with Mariann's parents still. They lived there until Debbie was around 10 / 11, so in the summer before Debbie was entering 5th grade.

She was around 12 / 13 when the Thornberrys found / adopted Donnie and from than on Debbie became her little brothers caretaker.

@stereotypcd Debbie's design always makes me think of a cocker spaniel or a golden retriever so I made her a mix of both :^)

HEADCANONS:

When Debbie was still in public school she would often brush and style the other girls hair ( and boys if they asked. ) Putting cute charms and hair clips, trying different hairstyles. Debbie may have been seen as weird by others but this did help her make friends a little bit easier. And the boys liked hearing all the gross facts about bugs/animals.

Nigel and Mariann even came into school for Career Day which the kids loved.

ooc;; I'm slowly cleaning up this blog. Just unfollowed a lot of inactive blogs, deleted old ooc posts / headcanons I'm not vibing w rn. I'm still working on rewriting Debbie's childhood ( n Frankie's too on tht blog ) so bare with me lol also thinking abt changing my url bc I haven't changed it since 2017 XD

ooc;; bc of this quote from Nigel; "Oh, poseidon, let your gentle waves carry us to safe harbor." ( S2 EP17 ) Where the family is at sea for 3 days looking for the Cook Island, only to end up on an uninhabited island. But thts for a different post- which I'm excited to talk abt it. Tht small quote kinda makes me think Nigel high-key believes in Geek Gods / Goddesses.

Which feeds into my other headcanon that both Nigel and Mariann are agnostic ( they raised both the girls tht way, since they think it should be a personal choice. ) Nigel was raised catholic, went to a catholic boarding school. But the nuns there didn't like his constant questioning of everything in the bible / they thought he was being rude and disrespecting God, but really he was curious, hungry for knowledge.

But I also know Nigel is known for slipping into Purple Prose / flowery tangents at any given time, so I could be grasping at straws ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
