You have no right to decide who I am. I will be better, I will be kinder, I will be wiser, I will not make the mistakes you did. I am not you. I will never be you.

So I'm done with my entrance exam now. It's been two days since then, but my father won't stop scolding me over it. Ah I planned to get shit faced after the exams, but seems like that ain't happening anytime soon. I hope I get some time to relax before I have to start studying again đŠ.

i'm not the best at singing. but i'm gonna sing anyway dude. i'm not the best at painting. but i'm still going to paint. my dancing will never see a stage. but it's perfect for early mornings in my bedroom and late nights with people i love. so what does this mean? it means that people are designed to do. not to be the best. just to do. if you're doing what you enjoy, then you don't have to be the best. you just have to enjoy it. you have to live.

I donât know who needs to hear this, but please donât break promises you make to yourself just because itâs you the promise is being made to. You told yourself youâd go on a walk tomorrow morning? Do it. You said youâd get more consistent with your skincare routine? Make it happen. You promised yourself you would work on establishing boundaries regardless of whoâs on the other side of them? Follow through with that. Donât wake up the next day and go âwell I donât HAVE to do thisâ âit wouldnât hurt to postpone thisâ âthis isnât a big dealâ because it literally is. Every promise broken is another nail in the coffin of your self-actualization. Itâs another major roadblock to developing healthy self-love and self-respect. Weigh promises youâve made to yourself the same way you would weigh promises youâve made to others.

Honestly it boils down to reparenting yourself & rewiring your own neuronal pathways & telling yourself a firm âstopâ when you notice your mind slipping down negative loopholes & being present in the moment & enjoying being mid task rather than waiting for it to end & not thinking of inertia as your baseline and natural way of living

Abusive parents love to pretend that whatever is going on at home is not âreal lifeâ, and you, would have no chance of surviving in âreal lifeâ. In fact, you know nothing about âreal lifeâ at all, you are an dumb, uninformed slob of ignorance and know nothing about living at all. According to them, you have been living in some kind of âbubbleâ where no real life events have been happening, and all of your experiences and opinions have nothing to do with reality. They even have the nerve to tell you to âstart living in the real life.â
You have been living nothing but real life. You had a real life experience of surviving in abusive environment. You have lived a reality of existing next to an abuser. There is nothing unreal or fake about your experiences, your abusive home is no bubble, itâs a real, definite hell that you went thru. Thereâs no question of you surviving in real life, you literally were surviving the worst of it already. You proved you are capable of surviving the worst of the worst, being in presence of a predator who was capable of brainwashing and manipulating you to keep you scared and unbelieving in your own senses and experiences.Â
Every single thing you lived thru was real life. You took on real life from the second you were born. Your circumstances were hard and cruel, you got all advantages taken away from you, replaced with sabotage and hatred, and youâre still alive now. There isnât a harsher reality than what you already went thru. Your experiences count in the real world. What happened to you affects the real world. Your parents have done nothing but lie to you. You were living in the real world entire time.

I've trying to finish Biochemistry for a week now, but I'm still left with more than half the syllabus. For the first half of the week i wasn't really working hard. But since the past 2 days, I'm trying my best to finish it asap. It's still hard but I'm trying to keep myself motivated.Â
I also have to make concise notes so that I can keep revising it, otherwise I'll forget it all. I hope I come up with some revision plan.

I want to print this out and paste it on my wall. Too bad that I'm moving back home. I hope i get into grad school this year.
âCan I tell you a secret? You donât have to be in a relationship. I mean it. I know they force it down your throat until you choke on it. Girls arenât pretty unless theyâre wanted. Boys arenât men unless theyâre having sex with someone. People arenât lovable until theyâre dating someone. But a relationship wonât always make you happy, and as wonderful as romance is, it isnât the only love that exists. I have seen friendships that are deeper and more pure than couples who swear itâs forever - and yet the friendship is the one people ignore. I have heard so often ânobody loves meâ out of the mouths of people who are single. And it kills me because if you ask them: where are your parents, your teachers, your classmates, your pets - they say, yes, okay, but it doesnât count. Of course it counts, love doesnât diminish just because someone doesnât want to have sex with you. In fact, doesnât it sort of make that love more real that they want nothing - not even a date - out of you? It is pretty to be in love. Itâs magical, Iâm sure. But itâs also wonderful to stop for ice cream in your prom dress with six other girls. Itâs also wonderful to go visit the world with nothing but a bunch of buddies who are really excited about learning. The problem is: weâve made everything about âthe oneâ. But maybe âthe oneâ is just you, loving yourself, having fun, and being happy. Maybe instead of looking for our other halves, we should be piecing ourselves together. Maybe I wasnât born unfinished. Maybe I am the one who makes myself better.â

next time if you ever feel like falling back to old habits just remember this

personally, there's no better motivation than remembering that there's probably many people out there who don't want me to succeed.

how to study effectively. ἍáĄ

sometimes we get caught up in trying to memorize all the material rather than study and learn the material. we also may come to realize that the way we currently âstudyâ isnât actually studying at all. iâve fallen into this way of studying, but iâve learned some really helpful tips and tricks to make sure that i actually learn and understand the material and get it to stick rather than memorize it just to forget everything later.
letâs begin âŚ
ŕ¨ŕ§ â incorporate study methods
thereâs a variety of different study methods that have been proven to truly help students learn the material and have productive study sessions.
some study methods:
active recall - retrieving information from your memory
some active recall techniques includeâŚ
practice tests/questions
flashcards
summary sheets
teaching others/Feynman Technique (more on this later)
take notes with questions related to the topics
whiteboard recall: write down what it is that youâre learning on a whiteboard while using as little words as possible; summarizing
record yourself explaining the material & listen back to it, be sure to make note of what you missed in your recording
blurting method (more on this later)
eat the frog - completing the most difficult task first
how to eat the frogâŚ
start by identifying your most difficult task. whether itâs a chapter youâre struggling with the most or an assignment that might take you longer to complete.
finish that hardest task first. focus on it, understand it, complete it, and get it out of the way before reviewing any other chapters/topics.
make sure you have a full grasp on whatever it is that youâre studying before moving onto something easier!
pomodoro method - working for a set amount of take & taking breaks in increments
25 minutes of working/studying , 5 minute break
50 minutes of working/studying , 10 minute break
set timers for both the time you study & the time you take a break!
the two options i provided donât have to be what you decide to do! choose whatever time limits you want and will work best for you!
feynman technique - teaching others the material
how it worksâŚ
start by choosing what material you want to teach to someone else (that âsomeone elseâ doesnât have to be a real person! honestly, if my cats were all sitting somewhere or near me, iâd pretend my cats were my âstudentsâ!)
without reviewing your notes and going based off your memory, begin your âlectureâ
fill in any gaps in your memory by going back to your notes and make note of what youâre struggling to recall/teach so that you can review it again later
remember to keep your âlecturesâ/explanations simple! as a medical student myself, i try to stay away from using medical terminology so that my âstudentsâ can also understand. reteaching the material in laymanâs terms will also help you better understand the material!
blurting method - an active recall technique
how it worksâŚ
start by reading through your notes, textbook/lecture slides, etc. & try to remember all that youâve read
once you feel like youâve got all the information in your head (or as much as you can! donât feel like you have to memorize it all!) close your notes, textbooks, lecture slides, etc.
on a separate sheet of paper or a whiteboard or anything that you can write on, write down everything you remember from what you just read and reviewed
after, review what you blurted out onto that separate sheet of paper and reopen your notes/textbook/etc. & see what you might have missed and note what it is that you still need to work on
ŕ¨ŕ§ â work in a beneficial environment
they key point here is that where you decide to study needs to be beneficial for you. meaning that your environment needs to be an area where you feel like you can study and work at your full potential. if you need a quiet place, maybe you might want to go to a library. if you need a brighter study environment, maybe you need to open up your curtains & blinds to let sunlight in or you need significant overhead lighting. if you need something more calming in your environment, maybe you might want to have soft and calming background music playing and maybe a nicely scented candle lit with dimmed lights.
figure out what it is that you need to study productively without any distractions and without the feeling of discomfort. your study space should allow you to focus completely!
ŕ¨ŕ§ â study groups
study groups are extremely helpful! iâm usually one who wishes to work independently, but recently iâve been connecting with my classmates to form study groups and have a session together! iâve found it to be extremely beneficial and i thank the study groups iâve been in for my success during the semester!
you donât have to work in a big group! most times i worked with 1-2 other people, and that was enough for me! study groups allow you to share your own study techniques with others while also learning some new strategies yourself. it also helps to have someone whoâs also learning the same material so that you guys can quiz each other or incorporate that teaching method with one another. also, having others there to study with might also give you some more insight on different topics! you might be struggling with one topic, but whoever youâre studying with might be close to mastering it and vice versa! as a group, you can review and share notes and helpful tips & tricks!
ŕ¨ŕ§ â other resources
i want to share a few posts that i, and others, have created that i feel might help with studying effectively!
my posts:
stop procrastinating: school edition
this post is pretty self-explanatory from the title, but i just go over a few things that help to get rid of that procrastination habit!
coming out of academic burn out
i feel like this is an important post to mention because studying can cause a lot of stress and lead to burn out! i highly recommend reading this to help prevent that from happening for you!
my personal study methods
i posted this earlier this month, and while i believe my study methods will be changing for my incoming spring semester, i feel like this would still be helpful to look at! it might give you some insight on how others might study and their successes with their methods!
