“there were six red bottles standing on the wall
six red bottles standing on the wall
if one red bottle were to accidentally fall
they’d be five red bottles standing on the wall...”

on my way to work.
With that class fresh in my mind, my early morning commute was way more interesting, my eyes constantly looking for something to trigger an idea.
Dominoes anyone?

Seeing my surroundings differently.
Back in our first week Dale taught us that you can make something significant out of well, nothing really.
We walked around college each pointing out something that interested us in some shape or form. From that one object we used coloured pastels to create something that would make most people stop, admire, smile.

Marmalade Bleue. inspo cont.
Marmalade Bleue is the taste making studio of designer and lettering artist, Danielle Evans. I accidentally just fell onto her page when gathering some inspiration for my ‘small things project.’
Danielle combined her love of lettering, design, photography, and eating to create food typography. Her work is internationally regarded as both innovative and mouth watering, inspiring new trends in social campaigns, advertising, and motion.
I really enjoy her work, it’s helped me spark so many ideas for my own, her pieces are fun and inventive and I can’t stop looking at them.
The first thing I did was make a long list of food and ideas and headed to the local supermarket. Apart from causing a massive mess Im pleased with a few of my attempts (photos to follow.) Me and Danielle have a few similar interests, together with the love of food and making things look pretty.
All in all I am very happy for stumbling across this lady.

Joseph Cornell - more inspo.
Using the Surrealist technique of unexpected juxtaposition, Joseph Cornell's best-known works are glass-fronted boxes into which he placed and arranged Victorian bric-a-brac, old photographs, dime-store trinkets, and other found elements.
Generally referred to as "shadow boxes," the resulting pieces are dream-like miniature tableaux that inspire the viewer to see each component in a new light.
Cornell often used the shadow boxes to address recurrent themes of interest such as childhood, space, and birds, and they represented an escape of sorts for their creator, who was famously reclusive.
Among the earliest examples of assemblage, the shadow boxes also helped give rise to a host of other Modern and Contemporary American art forms, from Installation art to Fluxus boxes.
His shadow boxes were also known as memory boxes.

Deyrolle was a Parisian institution for natural science. The store presents cabinets of curiosities open to the public, a reference in the field of taxidermy, entomology and natural sciences, whose idea is to show the beauty of nature.
The display boxes are made beautifully - maybe I can put together a display box then tape the edges with cloth tape.

During this week at the start of the lesson Dale continued to give us some ideas for our project. He brought up the idea of typography with food - which I really liked the idea of.
Also, he mentioned the Parisian institution Deyrolle to have a look at.

idea.
Maybe it was Anette Messager that helped me come up with this idea.
When you frame a photo you are doing so because you want to remember the moment you’ve captured. When you place something in a display cabinet or box you are doing so because that something is special to you.
