“Hmm… I guess you’re right.” Masumi places her hands on her hips laxly and sighs for a solid 4 seconds. “I mean it is normal for people to be on edge in a situation like this… it’s not exactly normal, so I guess being scared is just natural.” She claps her hands together in front of her and takes a deep breath, and lets it out after a 5 second pause, successfully calming herself down almost completely. At least enough for rational thought.
Her mind races at the possibility of this being an elaborate joke planned by Hope’s Peak. “I mean they do have the resources for something like this, and it could benefit them a bit by getting their Ultimates closer to each other, by putting them through a situation like this. But if that’s true…”
Despite being hot on the trail of an idea, her mind suddenly recognized Rika’s compliment, and her face grew a new shade of red. “Thank you! I’m not normally one to care too much about my appearance, but it does feel nice to be complimented every once in a while. And you’re right! You’re extremely pretty as well! Much prettier then I am!”
Yup there goes her train of thought, lost forever. It probably crashed somewhere amongst the stars, alongside a lot of Masumi’s thoughts. Too bad, it might have been important.
“See, that’s exactly right!” Rika exclaimed. “So it’s okay to be scared. Just…remember that.”
To Rika’s delight, it really did seem that Masumi had calmed down quite a bit. A far cry from the ball Rika had found her in. Enough so to come up with a coherent idea, one that actually made sense. If she was being honest, she only brought up Hope’s Peak Academy to make Masumi feel better, but now that she was mentioning it, it didn’t seem entirely out of the realm of possibility.
Technically speaking, Hope’s Peak Academy could just use this as a way to have all the Ultimates become closer. But at the same time, Rika didn’t know. Because this sort of thing was exactly the breeding grounds for a huge lawsuit. And she couldn’t see Hope’s Peak Academy risking that either. Well, not that she’d mention that to Masumi ever.
And it seemed Masumi didn’t have the chance to come up with it on her own, because she got distracted by Rika’s compliment.
“Hehe, thanks! I never get tired of hearing how pretty I am!” Rika giggled. “But you know…Masumi, that’s almost unfair! You don’t care too much about your appearance and yet you’re this cute? I’d be jealous if it wasn’t also effortless for me.”
“Alright, I’ll remember that, but I hope you know the next time I get scared by my shadow, I’ll be slightly upset with myself!” That’d be a hilarious joke if it weren’t true, and she had in fact been scared of her own shadow once before.
She pulls herself together, finally, mostly getting rid of the fear in the pit of her stomach. She pushes her glasses up her nose a bit and smiles warmly, she’s got a sort of plan in mind. “I’m going to go try and talk to some of the others, and hopefully find as much information on this as I can.”
Deciding to kind of keep the compliment instead of refute it. “It might be a bit unfair, but hey... I kinda pay for it in other ways so it’s all good. By that I mean I’m really short, so it’s kind of... awkward.” She shrugs and looks off in another direction. “Speaking of which, it’s time for me to go stumble my way through some other conversations.”

You are right to assume Masumi’s hair is nice to the touch, it’s one of the things she obsesses over at times. She does everything nice to make it look, feel, and be as nice as it can. She smiles softly and leans into the hug for a couple of moments before finally having Rika let go. Her eyes are still puffy from the almost crying she just went through, and she’s still slightly shaking, but otherwise she looks fine.
“I wasn’t doubting anything, but… Alright I’ll trust that you can make it out.” She lets out another breath, and her shaking stops. She’s successfully muffled her fear, someone give her a medal because she’s making progress towards not being scared of everything that comes her way.
A small blush covers the older girl’s face as she turns her head away from Rika. “Sorry about that by the way, I’ve always been told I scare easily, so I’m trying to fix that. I’ve made a lot of progress, if this were 2 years ago… I’d have freaked out over you trying to help me… and thanks, I’ve learned to just accept the cute compliments since I’ll more then likely be getting them for the rest of my life… I’ve at least learned to be happy when I get them.”
And then the subject changes again and she’s suddenly thinking. “Wait… so I’m not the only SHSL… that’s… increasingly not good. I mean at least we’ve discovered a possible pattern behind the kidnapping, the big question now though is… why, and that’s what I’m worried about.”
Rika briefly wondered if it was appropriate to squeeze Masumi’s cheeks, before deciding, yes, that was absolutely out of line, because Rika hated when her tías or, god forbid, fans did it to her.
“Don’t even worry, it’s a scary situation. Any normal person would be scared,” Rika said. “I mean, I wouldn’t expect someone from the audience to get into a water tank and- oh, that probably won’t help, huh? ANYway, I didn’t mean cute, like, bunny rabbit cute or tiny thing cute. I mean it like you’ve got a super pretty face. Granted, not as pretty as me, but you come pretty close. Or at least that’s what I think.”
The conversation seemed to be going well, but it seemed Masumi was putting some puzzle pieces together about the situation. And although Masumi didn’t seem to be going into a panic over it, Rika knew just how quickly people could freak themselves out.
“Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey,” Rika said in her sweetest tone. The one she used to use on her baby cousins who’d come crying to her after shows thinking she’d died. “Don’t overthink it just yet. It’ll be A-Okay. Maybe someone else here knows what’s going on, like, if it’s a SUPER weird Hope’s Peak field trip or something. I can ask around, if you’re okay with being alone. Or you could come with! We can be a team!”
“Hmm... I guess you’re right.” Masumi places her hands on her hips laxly and sighs for a solid 4 seconds. “I mean it is normal for people to be on edge in a situation like this... it’s not exactly normal, so I guess being scared is just natural.” She claps her hands together in front of her and takes a deep breath, and lets it out after a 5 second pause, successfully calming herself down almost completely. Masumi isn’t normally someone who hugs strangers right off the bat, but here she is hugging Rika, it’s more then likely her fear just kinda taking over her actions. But it’s not like she doesn’t like it, the hug is nice, and comforting, a lot better then just dealing with this on her own. If she can’t find someone she knows to help her, but someone else she doesn’t know, but is in a similar situation to her, offers to help, she’s not going to turn it down. She read somewhere that human touch is a good way to combat anxiety. Plus it helps that the girl isn’t leagues taller then she is, which makes this a lot less awkward thing to deal with.
Despite the hug calming her down somewhat, she’s still somewhat shaking, hell this is going to do some massive damage to her already non-existent ego later. “You’re an escape artist? That…. that’s really comforting.” She’s not lying, having an escape artist in a situation like this, is nothing short of a god-send. “We might get out of this without problems then… or at least I hope that’s how things go.”
She buries her head a bit deeper into the embrace and lets out a few short breaths, trying to control her all encompassing fear. If she can reign it back, maybe she might be useful… then Rika brings up not knowing the stary-haired girl’s name. That snaps her back to reality a bit, this girl she’s currently hugging, despite being scared, decided to comfort her, and give her name, without Masumi returning the favor… That won’t stand.
She takes a deep breath and pulls herself together, the fear is still there, but she’s pushed it down into the depths of her soul. “Alright… I’m feeling a bit better… Thanks for the help, getting my emotions in check. My name is Masumi Hoshikawa, SHSL Astronomer. Sorry for not introducing myself sooner.”
Rika dared to stroke the girl, who was apparently named Masumi’s, hair. It felt unbelievably nice to touch and Rika would never admit it, but this was definitely comforting to her as well. She really hoped Masumi didn’t notice that.
“Of course we’ll get out without a hitch!” Rika exclaimed, though a bit softer than her usual tone since she didn’t want to destroy Masumi’s eardrums. “I’m an expert in my craft! There’s no need to be afraid! You can trust in that. I mean, I haven’t died yet, so that’s a testament to my talent!”
Rika can’t really tell if Masumi is actually feeling better or not, but she pulls out of the hug anyway. She keeps a hand on Masumi’s shoulder, just in case. “No need to apologize, Masumi!” Rika exclaimed. “You were super duper freaked out, I wouldn’t expect you to be all talkative then. But thanks for giving me your name, it’s just the cutest! Just like you!” “Anyway, you already know my name and talent, but I’m actually a SHSL too. And so was the last person I talked to! This ab-so-lute-ly MUST be a pattern, don’t you think?”

Masumi is not having a good time, that’s for sure, her body aches, she’s scared, and it looks like she’s shaking. This isn’t how she had pictured going to Hope’s Peak Academy, she’d been planning on going to support her partner, now… well now she’s stuck in this place. And yes, she’s immediately assuming the worst, what else do you think is happening when you wake up somewhere unknown without a way out?
However, her shaking stops temporarily when Rika places her hand on Masumi’s shoulder. She looks up from her little ball of despair, and… well she has no idea who Rika is, but she looks nice. “How can I be ok in a situation like this?!?!” Her voice is quiet, but decisive, since she doesn’t really want to make too much noise. “I have no idea where I am, and I feel like my hearts going to implode with stress.”
Welp… it looks like this so called Rika De Silva is offering to help her… she’d be a jerk not to accept, just because she’s standing up doesn’t mean she’s not scared any more, she’ll just have someone to help her through with this, and she could really use a hug right now, something to make her feel better.
With a shaky breath Masumi grabs a hold of Rika’s hand and pulls herself up to her full height… Yeah 4′6″ is a lot smaller then you think. “I might n-need that hug, I’m kind of f-f-freaking out, maybe this’ll help calm m-m-my heart-rate.”
Great, she got the tiny girl to stand! Rika would consider that an accomplishment. But she still didn’t know her name. That would be the next order on the agenda. Well, once the tiny girl had calmed down a bit more.
“I know. It may not look like it, but I’m scared too,” Rika said. It wasn’t even a lie. The only reason she was able to feel so ‘okay, was because she risked her life on the regular. Compared to that, this situation was nothing. That didn’t mean ‘easy’, though. “But you know, that doesn’t even matter, because even though it’s scary, we’re gonna get through this. I mean, I’m an Escape Artist. If it really comes down to it, I can, like, pick the locks or something.”
Well, depending on what the locks were. If they were digital, she couldn’t do that. She wasn’t a hacker. But the tiny girl didn’t have to know that. And there were other ways to break open a door.
Since the tiny girl accepted her hug proposal, Rika didn’t hesitate to pull the tiny girl into her arms. It felt weird having someone who probably wasn’t a child be so much shorter than her, but she wasn’t going to lie. It felt pretty good. And shortness wasn’t exactly common in her line of work either.
Sisterly instincts washed over Rika’s body, which was odd since she was an only child, and she gently rocked back and forth, moving the girl along with her.
“You can take as long as you need,” Rika said. “Well, maybe not TOO long, since I still need to get your name.”

Normally Masumi is quite the heavy sleeper, sleeping through thunderstorms, turbulence on flights, loud music, etc… Normally it takes a lot to wake her up, but for some reason her eyes flutter open at the sound of the noises echoing throughout the clearing, and for a brief moment she’s at peace.
Until her eyes focus in on the concrete under her, and her brain wakes up enough to feel the pain throughout her body. Panic begins to flood her system, as she rises from the ground to observe her surroundings. What she finds, only turns the panic into pure fear. This is neither Hope’s Peak, nor her bed, which means she has no idea where she is, and that doesn’t sit well with the star haired girl.
Her eyes shift back and forth, between each and every single person getting up, her brain working a million miles an hour… Then she sees it. The walls, and the fear turns into terror, as her eyes water up and she scoots herself off the concrete, into the grass off to the side, and up against the hotel. She curls into a ball, and tears begin to well up in her eyes.
“Oooooooooooooooooh noooooooooooooo.” She whispers to herself, as she tries to peace together everything. “Please no… let this be a dream, I’ll wake up from in a few minutes.” Yeah she’s in full panic mode, someone help the tot.
