“But I can’t wear that, it’s wayyy too much to look at!”
“I can’t wear that, people will definitely make fun of me.”
“But what if people think my outfit looks weird?”
Who cares?! The world was made for weird, gorgeous, freaky/odd fashion!! If we didn’t have shoes that looked like cake, shirts that looked like skirts or belts, bottoms that are long and ethereal or short and to the point, big jewelry that makes noise when you walk/move, then we would have nothing!! This is a gentle reminder to wear whatever the fuck you want, EVEN IF IT LOOKS WEIRD TO OTHERS. And another reminder that it’s ok to also wear not so interesting clothing! Wear lululemon for all I care!!! Wear what you love and you’ll look fantastic doing it. XOXO

Romantic Essence: What Is It?

My Collage on Shuffles
———
Everyone has a sort of vibe about them right? When you watch a movie and you feel like they casted the character just right or when you see someone wearing an outfit that you admire but you know it just wouldn’t look the same on you. A mix of a persons: facial features/expression, body shape, and personality can all dictate one’s essence. And everyone has a unique mix.
There are seven essences most commonly known. These are Dramatic, Gamine, Natural, Classic, Romantic, Ingenue, & Ethereal. Most people have a three to four combination of the seven of these. In this post, I’ll just be explaining the singular archetype of the Romantic Essence. At the end, I’ll give some examples of how Romantic Essence can blend with the other types.
So… What Is It?
The physical characteristics of Romantic Essence include: upturned “cat” eyes or narrower eyes that have a smolder to them, roundness to the jaw, nose, and heart shaped faces. Curvy hourglass body shape. Fuller rounded lips.
But the Romantic Essence is more than just physical characteristics!
Personality of the Romantic Essence
The Romantic Essence energy is that of mature sensuality. There is something very alluring and magnetic about their confidence. These people are often… romantics. lol. They are true lovers and love love. This essence sits next to ingenue on the spectrum, and they have a lot of similarities especially in the roundness and feminine energy that is present in both types. The difference with romantic is that there is more of a maturity that can be seen, while ingenue is a softer more demure feminine energy.
Style for the Romantic Essence
The best style for the Romantic Essence are clothes that emphasize their sensuality. Tighter and form fitting clothes that show off their curves are best. Roses and large floral prints look amazing on the Romantic Essence. Red is also definitely their color, you might see them rocking a bold red lip! Softly wavy hair (like old Hollywood hairstyles) can look really good on the Romantic. Boho braid & box braids with curled ends would also be best for the romantic, as the curls pair well with the curvy nature of the romantic type. Also, just going natural if you have curly, coily, or wavy hair can be a great fit as Natural Essence is often seen paired with Romantic Essence, as you will see shortly when we explore the possible Romantic Essence blends.
Exploring Romantic Essence Blends
Like I said above, since we are all unique individuals, we can have a mix of multiple essences! Most likely, someone is not only one. Typically there are three to four essences present, but there can be more and you can also utilize different essences for different events or times in your life. Let’s explore some ideas of style that have Romantic Essence as the main Essence type, but mixed with others.
Romantic & Natural Essence Blend

Honestly, this is a match made in heaven! The sensual & sexy energy of the romantic blends very well with the down to earth energy of the natural. It’s giving “falling in love with the girl next door”. Julia Robert’s is another great example of a Romantic Natural blend, and she is often seen casted as a grounded and romantic character in romance movies. The natural essence add a bit of relatability and an extra level of kindness and sensibility to the smolder of the romantic.
Romantic & Gamine Essence Blend

Here we see a mix of maturity and youthful rebellion that creates a perfect contrast. Sabrina carpenter is a great example of this blend. She looks amazing in red and in old Hollywood styles. Her gamine energy comes through with her goofy and rebellious personality and short stature. People with this essence blend would look good in shorter lines (short skirts/shorts and crop tops) but with more form fitting clothes rather than stiff and angular as seen with just regular gamine. Reds with cheetah prints or mix and matched prints (large florals and bold animal prints) would look really good with this blend.

Ethereal Essence: What Is It?

- My Collage on Shuffles -
In this post, I’ll just be explaining the singular archetype of the Ethereal Essence. At the end, I’ll give some examples of how Ethereal Essence can blend with the other types.
So… What Is It?
Ethereal Essence characteristics include: longer ovular faces, longer nose bridges that almost pull the face downwards, softness in the jaw, nose, cheeks, and eyes. Unique or ‘exotic’ facial features such as large or wide set eyes, gap teeth, high and blunt cheekbones. The skin can often look translucent or the individual looks best in radiant/dewy makeup looks. Watery skin and eyes. The body is often tall but doesn’t have to be. The arms or legs being longer than average.
Physical characteristics are only one part of an essence archetype though.
Personality of Ethereal Essence
Someone with Ethereal Essence will often exude a mysterious and otherworldly energy. This can include a whole spectrum of presentations. Often people with this essence will be cast as princesses or goddesses in movies as they feel almost mythical or of a different time. These individuals might be more quiet and reserved, but that’s not always the case.
Style for the Ethereal
The best looks for someone with Ethereal Essence is one that emphasizes the otherworldly qualities of the Ethereal. This includes: long flowing pieces that flow into “S” shapes. Chiffon, Silk, & Satin fabric do this well. Ethereal Essence is on the opposite side of the spectrum to the Dramatic Essence, so it does share some similarities but is opposite in the angularity of the Dramatic. Everything is soft, light, airy, and draped. The Ethereal Essence looks amazing in Metallics like silver, gold, rose gold, & bronze. Light and dewy makeup looks and at times soft avant-guard makeup goes great with this essence. Some hairstyles include: boho braids and micro braids, long softly curled hair, intricate braided updos with soft loose curls framing the face, etc. You’ll want to avoid overly sharp and angular haircuts like bobs or pin straight hair.
Mixing & Matching
Like I said above, since we are all unique individuals, we can have a mix of multiple essences! Most likely, someone is not only one. Typically there are three to four essences present, but there can be more and you can also utilize different essences for different events or times in your life. Let’s explore some ideas of style that have Ethereal Essence as the main Essence type, but mixed with others.
Ethereal & Romantic Essence Blend:

A mix of otherworldly beauty and sensual maturity. This is a blend often seen those cast as princesses or protagonists in romance movies. Personality wise, these individuals might be quiet or mysterious with an extra sort of smolder to them. People probably just can’t help falling in love ~
Ethereal & Natural Essence Blend:

This blend mixes grounded earthy energy with mysterious charm. People with this essence blend might be typecast as romance protagonists as well, and as kindhearted and helpful characters (the mysterious girl next door energy). Personality wise these are mysterious but grounded individuals. They are kind, but prefer privacy.
Ethereal & Ingenue Essence Blend:

Dainty & feminine meets otherworldly intrigue. This essence blend might get cast as more of a Disney princess or younger sort of role. These individuals seem to look young forever! As if they have some magical abilities lol. Personality wise, these individuals might be shy and introverted, preferring the comfort of their home and their stuffed animals over going out. Coquette styles really seem to come to mind for me with this essence blend.
Ethereal & Dramatic Essence Blend:

This blend is a mix of Daring, Bold, and Avant-Guard energy and mysterious/otherworldly energy. I often see editorial models/supermodels with this essence blend. Personality wise, individuals with this essence blend will have confidence and charisma but a sort of mystery that keeps people at a distance. Sort of like these people are so confident, and almost look unreal it’s like why approach them?

That’s all for now! This was a quick overview for beginners looking to know more about the Ethereal Essence. We talked about the basics of the essence archetype and how it could possibly be blended with others.
Keep an eye out for more posts, I will be going through all 7 essences types (and even the lost 8th Essence) so I’ll probably get to the ones you want to know more about! Plus, stay tuned for all other things fashion theory, like Kibbe & Color Theory. See y’all next time!
