At age 81, the GALCIT Rocket Research team's mentor and champion Theodore von Karman was the first ever recipient of the National Medal of Sciences. A bridge between science fiction and reality, von Karman helped usher in the birth of rocketry and the space race with applicable uses of technologies and methods once thought of as 'pretty wild ideas'.

In 1972, at the insistence of his wife, John D. Clark set about to write a comprehensive yet "Informal" early history of liquid rocket propellants. It is a comprehensive and detailed timeline of the achievements of men like Frank Malina, Theodore von Karman, Goddard, von Braun, and other pioneers of rocketry. We recommend you take the time to read this fine rocket literature.
