Was Tywin a shitty parent to Jaime? It is undeniable about Cersei and Tyrion, but I don't really see how he mistreated Jaime as a child. The only moment that comes to mind is when Jaime tells him he will remain in the Kingsguard in asos. Thank you!
Yes. Tywin was abusive to all three of his children. Jaime had it the easiest, since he was more or less what his father expected him to be and didn’t chafe so much in the role, but when he was in Casterly Rock, he lived in an abusive household, and being the abuser’s favourite doesn’t mean he escaped unscathed.
Going to put this under a cut.

Remember that time when this picture came out and we learned that Leta Lestrange, the girl in the picture that Newt has in his suitcase, was engaged with Theseus Scamander, the war hero and older brother of Newt Scamander?
Tumblr media
Remember that we were all kind:
Dude, WTF? !
How could you Leta?
I hate her!
Theseus will be an idiot
Leta is a bitch how she dared to break the heart of my sweet Newt and now sleep with his brother?!
OMG this is a love triangle!!!
Leta is a taker
Theseus will be the new Percy.
They are not even in love.
She must have him under the curse imperio or a love position.
She must be working for Grindelwald.
Agh! I hate them.
Tumblr media
Now look at us, loving Leta and Theseus, writing fanfics about their love story, melting down with that scene in the French Ministry, falling in love with the scene at the ball, crying for Leta and wanting to hug Theseus. And all that in the course of a year ….
Because I mean… Look at them ❤️
Tumblr media
How could we ever hate them?

They deserved better and you can’t convince me of otherwise

Sorry for not winning.
Belgium has also now French player to hate: Mbappe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjxTRdI7Zbk
So I don’t have skin in the game as regards the World Cup. Just anyone but France, really. We Irish heartily disapprove of France doing well in football since a certain hand ball incident during a previous qualifying campaign (which knocked us out, so we didn’t get to go). Belgium, if you could kindly kick their arses tonight, the Irish would be grateful. As long as France doesn’t win, I’m easy about who does.

This wasn’t sent because they didn’t want to host Eurovision. It was a protest against the fact Eurovision became just a bunch of crazy acts and that a good song and voice wasn’t important anymore.
But I actually think the reason why our Belgian act was so terrible (IMO) was because they didn’t want to host Eurovision. (And I have actually no idea which part of our country has to host it: the Flemish or the French one)
There is no reason why you would give someone such an ugly dress.
“Most poor countries send ridiculous entries so they won’t win”? Jesus, you cannot be more wrong. Because in that case, what is the “rich” countries’ excuse to send their sometimes hilariously campy crap? Most ‘poor’ countries take it as a matter of pride, and they would all WANT to win. Why do you think all neighbouring countries vote for each other? Talk to some of them, update yourself properly. Don't be a typical American.
*raises an eyebrow*

“OPEN LETTER TO
COMMISSION PRESIDENT JUNCKER AND EUROPEAN COUNCIL PRESIDENT TUSK cc. First Vice-President Frans Timmermans
UPHOLDING THE RULE OF LAW IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
31 October 2017
Dear President Juncker, dear President Tusk:
We are scholars, politicians, public intellectuals and members of the European Parliament writing to you with the following concern:
The European Union has proclaimed the Rule of Law principle and respect for fundamental rights and freedoms to be binding on its Member States (Articles 2 and 6 of the Lisbon Treaty). The EU’s leadership has been a staunch protector of these fundamental norms, most recently in countering the Polish government’s attempts to undermine the independence of judges as well as the Hungarian government’s actions to limit civil society and media freedoms.
However, we are deeply concerned that the EU’s governing bodies are condoning the systematic violation of the Rule of Law in Spain, in particular regarding the Spanish central authorities’ approach to the 1 October referendum on Catalan independence. We do not take political sides on the substance of the dispute on territorial sovereignty and we are cognizant of procedural deficiencies in the organisation of the referendum. Our concern is with the Rule of Law as practised by an EU Member State.
The Spanish government has justified its actions on grounds of upholding or restoring the constitutional order. The Union has declared that this is an internal matter for Spain. Issues of national sovereignty are indeed a matter of domestic politics in liberal democracies. However, the manner in which the Spanish authorities have been handling the claims to independence expressed by a significant part of the population of Catalonia constitutes a violation of the Rule of Law, namely
1/ The Spanish Constitutional Tribunal banned the referendum on Catalan independence scheduled for 1 October, as well as the Catalan Parliament session scheduled for 9 October, on grounds that these planned actions violate Article 2 of the Spanish Constitution stipulating the indissoluble unity of the Spanish nation, thus rendering secession illegal. However, in enforcing in this way Article 2, the Tribunal has violated Constitutional provisions on freedom of peaceful assembly and of speech – the two principles which are embodied by referendums and parliamentary deliberations irrespective of their subject matter. Without interfering in Spanish constitutional disputes or in Spain’s penal code, we note that it is a travesty of justice to enforce one constitutional provision by violating fundamental rights. Thus, the Tribunal’s judgments and the Spanish government’s actions for which these judgments provided a legal basis violate both the spirit and letter of the Rule of Law.
2/ In the days preceding the referendum, the Spanish authorities undertook a series of repressive actions against civil servants, MPS, mayors, media, companies and citizens. The shutdown of Internet and other telecom networks during and after the referendum campaign had severe consequences on exercising freedom of expression.
3/ On referendum day, the Spanish police engaged in excessive force and violence against peaceful voters and demonstrators – according to Human Rights Watch. Such disproportionate use of force is an undisputable abuse of power in the process of law enforcement.
4/ The arrest and imprisonment on 16 October of the activists Jordi Cuixart and Jordi Sànchez (Presidents, respectively, of the Catalan National Assembly and Omnium Cultural) on charges of sedition is a miscarriage of justice. The facts resulting in this incrimination cannot possibly be qualified as sedition, but rather as the free exercise of the right to peaceful public manifestation, codified in article 21 of the Spanish Constitution.
The Spanish government, in its efforts to safeguard the sovereignty of the state and indivisibility of the nation, has violated basic rights and freedoms guaranteed by the European Convention on Human Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as well as by Articles 2 and 6 of the basic law of the EU (the Lisbon Treaty). The violation of basic rights and freedoms protected by international and EU law cannot be an internal affair of any government. The silence of the EU and its rejection of inventive mediation is unjustifiable.
The actions of the Spanish government cannot be justified as protecting the Rule of Law, even if based on specific legal provisions. In contrast to rule-by-law (rule by means of norms enacted through a correct legal procedure or issued by a public authority), Rule of Law implies also the safeguarding of fundamental rights and freedoms – norms which render the law binding not simply because it is procedurally correct but enshrines justice. It is the Rule of Law, thus understood, that provides legitimacy to public authority in liberal democracies.
We therefore call on the Commission to examine the situation in Spain under the Rule of Law framework, as it has done previously for other Member States.
The EU leadership has reiterated that violence cannot be an instrument in politics, yet it has implicitly condoned the actions of the Spanish police and has deemed the actions of the Spanish government to be in line with the Rule of Law. Such a reductionist, maimed version of the Rule of Law should not become Europe’s new political common sense. It is dangerous and risks causing long-term damage to the Union.
We therefore call on the European Council and Commission to do all that is necessary to restore the Rule of Law principle to its status as a foundation of liberal democracy in Europe by countering any form of abuse of power committed by Member States. Without this, and without a serious effort of political mediation, the EU risks losing its citizens’ trust and commitment.
When this declaration appears, the crisis will have developed further. We follow closely the situation with the interests of democracy in Catalonia, Spain and Europe in mind, as they cannot be separated, and we insist all the more on the importance for the EU to monitor the respect of fundamental freedoms by all parties.”

And the most idiotic political comment of this year goes to the person claiming all Catalan independentist parties are parties on the right because nationalists can never be left.
The most radical party is the CUP. They are anti-capitalists and might be considered extreme left. The thing is that in general Catalonia always voted more left than the rest of Spain.

I really get annoyed with the whole gratitude thing.
They should have gone directly to the police. But Annalise put them more and more into a mess because of her schemes. Schemes she only made to protect herself and Wes. She was the one telling Wes what to do that night.
She manipulated and used them. She has been doing this for seasons.
landkeks replied to your post:
The anon said pete is destroying Connor because…
I don’t even get how someone could hate Connor, or blame him for all the shit. He’s polite towards Annalise and I feel like, after S3E14 when they had their talk they respect each other and he just keeps his distance now, like he always wanted. In this he’s the most constant and logical of the k4. People on tumblr need to relax and learn to appreciate complicated, complex characters that feel human - instead of taking everything they say and do personally …
I can get how Connor is unlikeable but to me that’s always been an intentional part of his character. Someone who’s intentionally an asshole and almost revels in it, except obviously the point is that we’re slowly starting to see that deep down he craves love, affection and acceptance just like everyone else.
I definitely wouldn’t call him polite towards Annalise, one/two episodes out of 3 seasons doesn’t even it out, but I think there’s a lot to be said for their relationship.  They’re extremely similar and like was pointed out, he’s the only one of the K5 we saw Annalise intentionally reach out to at the start of S3, but I think there’s a lot to be said for the fact that HE wanted to confess after Sam and she convinced him not to. In all honesty I really don’t by into the narrative that any of them owe Annalise any debt of gratitude. This has been one long game of you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. She’s got them into some shit they never should have had to experience.
But I agree with your last point SO much. My favourite thing about Connor is the fact he’s complicated. It makes him interesting and unpredictable which is what you need in a drama, but at the end of the day, he doesn’t exist?!

Just mentioning this:
annoying people at Irene trail (3x02): “If your husband was abusing you so badly, why did you kill him? Instead of just leaving him”
Annalise (3x14): “You should have left”

Every political system has that issue. The Electoral College can actually be defended on the fact it does give smaller populous states a defense against bigger populous ones.
But the American elections weren’t the ones I was talking about.
I think some people doesn’t really understand how elections or democracy work.
You can protest against a decision made by a parliament or a government (or other bodies), their actions, …
It is completely idiotic to protest against an election. You are at that moment saying someone else’s vote is less worth than yours. You have the right to disagree with a person, you have the right to think the certain person is an idiot
but in a modern democracy each vote should have the same value. This isn’t the time anymore where someone else’s vote was more worth because he has money, he has position, …

The worst thing about season 7 is the fact they completely ignore Stefan’s fault in what happened with the Huntress.
They blamed everything on Damon because he gave them the sword. But it is completely ignored they wouldn’t be in this situation if Stefan wasn’t that focused on his revenge on Julian. But that is apparently not important.
