Yesterday was our seventeenth (?!) CIEday. We are in Marrakech and went to the Museum of Marrakech, to the Madrasa Ben Youssef, for drinks and to dinner and bought a new coat.
Seventeen years is a wild amount of time - and it’s still surreal, and probably will always be surreal, that I just casually happened to stumble upon TDF when I was fourteen and it so completely and irrevocably changed my life.
2024 has not been the easiest year - to put it mildly - and really, I suppose, we have been struggling quite a lot since 2022. Life has changed and the world has changed and we have changed…and a lot of really, really difficult stuff has happened along the way. Having Theet has been vital during this time - or rather, we have both been vital to have for each other. Having a daemon - and, for a daemon, having a human - means that even in the worst times there is always something within yourself to fight for and keep going for - and always a part of yourself which you love.
Getting back into daemon community spaces - something that has really fallen by the wayside for us with everything else that has been going on - is one of our resolutions for 2025; we miss it and we miss the sheer fun of being around other daemians and daemons. I feel like we have missed a lot but that does mean there is a lot to read and catch up on - which is exciting.
Anyway, here is to seventeen years of daemonism and having Theet in my life; I have no idea who I would be or where I would be without him.

(Note: this is personal writing and not intended to be broadly representative of what the labels we use mean to everyone who uses them. Just what they mean for us personally). c:
There IS a difference between us being median headmates and being daemons. There IS. It's just hard to pin down. I was thinking it'd be cool to try and explain, but... ah.
To us specifically, being daemons is a way of being median, but it implies a specific kind of bond we have. We're one person, but we're also separate people who are autonomous and have our own independent personalities and opinions. We're just very blurry around the edges, and when it comes down to it, we come together to form a single unified whole.
But that's... something that can be true of median systems also, I think?
No, the main thing that makes us daemian / daemons is our relationships with each other -- there's no other word that can describe it. We feel such love and affection for each other. I'd try and compare it to being best friends, or twins, or even platonic soulmates, but... nah, doesn't really capture it.
What makes us daemian / daemons is that when I look at Aka, when I look at Phry, I see the best parts of myself. I love them with all my heart, they're the most incredible people and I can't express how lucky I am to have them be a part of me.
And I know that Aka and Phry feel the same about me. Whether or not I agree with them. But that's the thing: they love me when I can't.
It's not like that with our median headmates. They're cool, I guess, but I don't really love them. They're parts of us, important parts, and they're people, but they're more like... roommates that we get along with.
I could call us median headmates, or facets, and it wouldn't be wrong. But it'd still not feel entirely correct.

“We’ve heard them all talk about Dust, and they’re so afraid of it, and you know what? We believed them, even though we could see that what they were doing was wicked and evil and wrong… We thought Dust must be bad too, because they were grown up and they said so. But what if it isn’t? What if it’s…”

I’ve been re-listening to the His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman at work recently. They are some of my absolute favorite books and I love the concept of the Daemons (animal companions that every human has and basically they are physical representations of peoples souls. They settle into a particular form that is indicative of the individuals personality) I think my Daemon would definitely be a Kayan Loris. And his name would be Jasper.

You are so young, Lyra, too young to understand this, but I shall tell you anyway and you’ll understand it later: men pass in front of our eyes like butterflies, creatures of a brief season. We love them; they are brave, proud, beautiful, clever; and they die almost at once. They die so soon that our hearts are continually racked with pain. We bear their children, who are witches if they are female, human if not; and then in the blink of an eye they are gone, felled, slain, lost. Our sons, too. When a little boy is growing, he thinks he is immortal. His mother knows he isn’t. Each time becomes more painful, until finally your heart is broken. Perhaps that is when Yambe-Akka comes for you. She is older than the tundra. Perhaps, for her, witches’ lives are as brief as men’s are to us.

Working of some tokens for DnD since we finally have a map for our two-years-old-HDM-campaign. I will print them and make some resin buttons 👀 waiting for materials is hard.
Behold me and my DM’s characters (and their daemons!)

If daemons were a thing in this world, you'd find us like this.
ID: a two panel, black and white comic drawn digitally. The first panel shows the backside of a chair with a person sitting on it, in the darkness, looking at a computer on a table, besides them, there´s a black, long haired cat sitting on the table, and also looking at the computer. Though roughly, the computer diplays YouTube's screen with a video on it, lighting up the space. The second panel shows both the human and the cat's faces, both have round ayes and seem very focused on the computer. End ID.
