UH, well I know nothing so here are some headcanons!

desert plants, but especially desert flowers, have cultural significance on Jakku. It’s part of the reason Rey keeps those dead flowers in her home.

its a “if these can survive, so can we” type thing. They’re symbols of resilience and hope

junk bosses like Unkar are common and p much universally hated by their “employees” 

scavenging is something Jakkuvians take pride in, people like Rey who can climb the highest in star destroyers, haul the most scrab, build & maintain their own supplies, are generally respected.

it’s part of the reason she’s left alone (other than being able to kick ass)

group settlements aren’t uncommon, but they’re shaky and prone to collapse due to the cutthroat nature of life on Jakku. only settlements with strong leaderships survive

one of those settlements could possibly have taken out Rey, but again, she’s respected by the community

there’s also a sort of mythos about her. She’s strong for one, but shes also extraordinarily lucky. she was once running from a gang, zipping back and forth, and when people tried to follow, they fell into the quicksand that she’d effortlessly avoided

the unspoken assumption is that the desert favors her. Very few people can live alone so far from an outpost, but Rey manages fine.

most Jakkuvians know many languages. it’s necessary when the difference between a dead-end scavenging gig and escape from Jakku can be whether you charm the pilots that visit on occasion, and knowing their native language can certainly help

Rey picked up her abundance of languages by stealing them from the minds of passers-by in conversation unknowingly. She assumed she had a knack for picking them up after just hearing the words once or twice

you are a stormtrooper. you have been searching this dumb cold town for some jedi lady at the behest of your supreme leader for like 20 minutes. suddenly, he shows up and says “WAIT shes in my room” points aggressively at you, and tells u to lock the ship tf down.

what do you do?? obviously what he said but like. what do you think??? howd she get there? howd he know she was there? the guys got like. witch powers or whatever, but if he could just locate her why didnt he do that? no, there was something else. youve heard stories of these mfs interacting, and their relationship is weird as hell. did she call him to be like “im at ur place lol” was she gloating? what does it mean if she wasnt gloating?? oh my god theyre fucking. the supreme leader and the last jedi are fucking. holy shit.

Surprise papercraft! The Caraval papercraft was put on hold while I waited for specialty paper to be delivered. In the meantime, I used this week to work on this Throne of Glass / Heir of Fire papercraft! One of four I have planned for the lead up to Kingdom of Ash release! :) I loved this scene so much! Even though we didn’t know at first read this was the moment Aelin and Rowan met - we find out later that Aelin made a hilarious first impression!
