soo-a is like "why am i trying to impress this random high schooler so much" and hae-seong be like "i am on the case why am i constantly trying to help this random woman self-improve as a side quest"

i think a lot of people don't get that the whole thing of undercover high school IS that it's cliches but refreshing and done better/with a twist 😭 that's literally the whole vibe of the drama and at many points it's literally making fun of said cliches too...

in the 3rd ep the convenience store scene they were literally doing a parody of romance (2002 kdrama, the song that plays from the speaker in the store is literally it's ost 😭) this is literally what makes this drama soo fun

i still have lingering attachment with love next door (seungryu especially) but that aside, i genuinely think the actors are not dating at the moment.

i know every person is different, but personally i think if two costars are dating, i don’t think they would be too in-your-face? iykwim. the constant affectionate photo dumps are cute & heart-fluttering that make shippers become convinced (can’t blame them much). i think it’s just evidence that they are truly close off-screen & share the same goals for this drama (i.e. selling the chemistry + saving the project).

JSM also freely talked about their chemistry on&off screen that makes me think they truly enjoyed working & befriending eo so second project is very likely (let’s pray this is happening soon guys i am desperate), the remaining question is just when..

don’t get me wrong. i love & miss seeing their off-characters interactions together but real-life shippers need to calm down because they are in for a huge disappointment if one (or both) of them end up dating & marrying other people.

if we are talking about behind the scene interactions; as a fan of JSM, she was always bright, friendly & can be a bit touchy(?) with her male costars IF they match her energy. it is more apparent with JHI because they’re super close in age & he did indeed match her freak 😂

i can’t speak for JHI since i wasn’t a fan and didn’t follow him closely. but with a lil bit of reading + stalking, i can conclude that he’s more or less a method actor in the sense that he embodies the character he is playing (which explains his fluctuating MBTI lol). so i get why it can be very easy to assume that he’s in love with his costar when fact is he’s just too deep in the character.

of course, this is just my two cents. although, one thing that i think is true is that both are not seeing other people at the time because there is no way you could do that TVN “promo” video willingly 😮‍💨

i actually do think jung somin & jung haein look good together and they seem to get along very well outside of the drama. yes it is work but pleasant atmosphere & colleagues are important! they’re also at a nice age to get married IF that’s what both of them (individually) want to achieve at a certain point of their lives.

however, deep inside i hope they don’t date but would remain close friends because (1) i still need them casted in different multiple projects, especially melodrama! & (2) i’d be heartbroken if their relationship wouldn’t last which means i wouldn’t get (1)!!!

anyways, i shouldn’t be thinking too much about celebs’ businesses but at the end of the day i am a consumer of media! i need (1) to happen as soon as possible 😮‍💨

two things can be true at once: (1) somin & haein have good chemistry, (2) the script underperformed!

i’m not sure why are people attacking other people who state their opinions on twitter. some of the “attackers” are somin’s fans too but just because you’re a fan doesn’t mean you have to defend the writer’s work. it’s not a judgment of whether or not the actors have eyes for good scripts (or not) because afaik, actors weren’t given the whole 16 episodes of script when they’re offered projects. most of the times the script hasn’t even been finished during casting stage..

i am her fan since playful kiss and even i acknowledge that this drama could be better 😮‍💨 it’s a waste of talent & chemistry :(

all that being said, the drama did have several good moments and imo decent characterisation..

there's a translated scrap of plato that eventually found its way into a letter sent by emily dickinson: "i wish you a kinder sea."

seascape scenes in k-dramas can often be so trite — but love next door's characterization was beautiful. seunghyo pitching seokryu into the water might seem like an act of anger — but it's actually liberation. it's a rebirth; a re-emergence — a place of salt that can settle her tears. water is renewal: a washing place for wounds. a tincture to clear away the bitter and broken; and allow the touch of tenderness.

though seokryu is scared of water; in the sea she is safe: the waves hold the weight of her hurt and desperation as she screams at seungyo. he knows what she needs — he has always known what she needs. he stands still — takes the tips of her fingers striking him as what it is — finally, a surrender to all the emotions she refused to succumb to. a clearing of the air. an opening into a freer intimacy.

there were so many beautiful moments during this episode: the power of a simple "we'll hit rock bottom together." seokryu's ex was heartbreakingly right — what she needed wasn't someone to lift her up, but someone to fall down with her. when someone is in pain you sit with them in the dark; and look up at the impossibility of light together.

this is what seungyo has always understood so effortlessly about seokryu — that this is love: to climb down into the ravine of regret and raw hurt where the person you love has fallen — not to pull them out; but give them company. when people are in agony you must give them the dignity of their deep hurt — you must nurture the narrow, serrated edges of their sorrow. seunghyo taking seokryu to see off her ex — folding his coat around her to create a private hollow to express her heartache: it speaks of a man who understands that grief is not meant to be overcome; but gathered in the hands and given respect. attention. understanding.

this is love: to say "when you cry, it is my eyes that fill with salt. when you scream, it is my throat that burns. when you fall down, it is my knees that bruise in the color of your eyes."

this is love: to wish someone a kinder sea. a clearer day. a warmer hug.

i can’t be the only one who knew the ending kiss was coming by the end of episode 12 as soon as i read the episode synopsis + the hint given by jung haein (he said we’d be embarrassed to watch with your parents although he said this for ep11 so i think he was confused)

YET! it still gave me butterflies 😭 oh god they built it up so well, not just for the episode. but the fact that they waited 10 episodes before making seunghyo & seokryu a couple, the yearning really paid off especially from seunghyo’s pov. nothing people say about episode 12 would ever be able to change my mind because it was exquisite.

i already feel sad because the drama is ending in two weeks and it would take me YEARS to find another couple to obsess over to the point i am hoping they date in real life 😩 i definitely will be able to move on but it will take ages..
