Midnight Mischief

Silence crept between L1ME Apartment hallways, the usual hum of the busy streets outside was muffled by the thick brick walls. The only sound came from the stairwell—hushed giggles, quick whispers, and the faint rustling of a paper bag.

Mia crouched on the stair steps, her fingers gripping the bag filled with pastel-colored bath bombs. Her eyes gleamed with mischief as she peeked down at Adrien who was standing a few steps below her, adjusting the strap of his camera.

Adrien let out a quiet sigh, glancing up at her. “Are you sure about this?” His voice was barely above a whisper, but the skepticism was obvious.

Mia stopped on her tracks, turning around to look at him; a grin was already forming on her face. “Of course! Just picture it—the pool turning into this giant cosmic swirl of colors. It will be so pretty.” She gave the bag a little shake. “And besides, you need cool shots for your portfolio, right?”

Adrien rolled his eyes, yet he couldn’t prevent a smile to tug at the corner of his lips. “That’s not how portfolios work,” he muttered, running a hand through his dark hair. Although he seemed not to agree with Mia, there was no real resistance in his voice—he wasn’t about to let her do it alone, in case things go wrong.

The two tiptoed toward the rooftop pool, their sneakers barely making a sound against the cool tiles. Above them, the night sky stretched vast and dark with clusters of clouds drifting lazily—a stark contrast to the pool area. The space was dimly lit, the overhead lights casting only a faint glow along the edges but the pool itself was luminous. Its underwater lamps bathed the water in a cool, ethereal blue hues; making it look like a glowing oasis in the midst of the shadowy rooftop. The pool surface remained still and undisturbed, a perfect canvas waiting for their touch.

Mia gave Adrien a gentle nudge, her voice lowered to a low murmur. “Tell me this doesn’t look like the perfect setup.”

Adrien, already adjusting his camera, glanced quickly at her before focusing back to its viewfinder. “It does. Let’s just hope we don’t get caught before I get my shots.”

Mia squatted, opening the paper bag and picking out a bath bomb. "Aha! Lavender-scented! Good for the Limes and the Ades. Helps them sleep tight."

Adrien, with his fingers still glued onto his camera, let out a sigh. "Like they'll smell it from he—” His words was cut off as Mia suddenly tossed three more bath bombs into the pool at once, followed by an echoing loud plop.

Mia squealed, lowering her voice but it was clear she was still buzzing with excitement. "It's fuuuun! Did you record it?"

Adrien knitted his eyebrows, furrowing both at Mia's question and because he couldn't find the right exposures settings. "Once again—good Lord, I'm telling you we're not making a vlog. It's for my shots!" Still, he couldn't deny how cool the pool looked after its water danced with the colorful burst from the bath bombs. He adjusted his camera once again, and a wide smile appeared on his feature.

"Now, now, it's perfect—hey, Mia, please put in another bath bomb! The rose gold one."

Upon hearing that, Mia grinned and did as told. Before they knew it, they were caught up in the fun. Even Adrien, who had been skeptical, ended up tossing more bath bombs than her. After a stressful week of Lime activities initiated by the Ades, this felt like the perfect escape.

Just as Adrien was about to throw the last bath bomb— "What are you guys doing?" Jade's voice cut through the moment. Neither of them had noticed her footsteps. Mia jumped, yelling, “IT WAS HIM! LOOK!” In a rush, she shoved the bag into Adrien's hands, tapped his back, and took off running. “Bye!”

Adrien froze, rubbing his neck awkwardly. He looked at Jade, then at the bag in his hand. "So yeah… it happened." He let out a nervous chuckle, "but hey, check out these sick shots."

"GET OUT!"
