So backstory, I work in healthcare and when we need to give a patient a sling, each sling comes with an extra Velcro strap that wraps around the body to completely immobilize the arm, and 90% of the time we don’t bother giving it to the patient if they don’t specifically need to have it immobilized because the strap just gets in the way. Today, a couple of my coworkers were tossing a leftover strap back and forth, and I caught it and for fun I started whipping it, and I learned very quickly that the action of whipping — slinging your arm back and forth, trying to time the flick of your wrist perfectly to make a quiet (it’s Velcro after all) snap in the air — is actually kinda fun. Like it scratches the same itch that stimming by flapping your hands does, if that makes sense, and I felt like a dollar store Jacque Ze Whipper in the best way possible

I had to force myself to stop a minute and a half in because I realized that I was experiencing a level of joy in my heart that I haven’t felt since early March 2020, when I got a phone call from my school saying I was approved to study abroad in Ireland. I was near tears from my excitement, I was actually jumping up and down in my dad’s kitchen. You see, twenty minutes after I got that phone call, I refreshed the news and saw an announcement that the first cases of COVID-19 had appeared in Ireland, and while logically I know I do not have the cosmic relevance for this, a small part of me has always blamed myself for an entire country being officially hit by a global pandemic, and since then I’ve been too afraid to let myself feel anywhere near that happiness
