southern mama who wakes up before the sun, carefully tiptoeing around their baby's crib to get ready. just as they're heading out to start on chores, they feel a tug on their pants.

"momma, i come?" said in the softest, sleepiest voice as their baby wipes sleep from their eyes. she bends down with a smile, ruffling their bedhead.

"get some more sleep, baby. you know momma always comes 'n gets you when it's time for the horses - you're not missin' anything fun comin' now."

the little one whines, "but i wanna see th' cows momma!"

"alright, alright. but when you're sleepy and fussy later, it's not my fault!"

as she's doing her chores, she watches her baby sway sleepily out of the corner of her eye, pajama pants tucked messily into their boots and stuffed animal dangling perilously close to the dirty ground.

eventually, as she's shoveling hay, she realises her baby has disappeared. she looks around and eventually discovers them sleeping peacefully on a stack of (thankfully clean) hay, stuffed animal smudged with fresh mud and clenched tightly in their little arms. she laughs softly to herself, "what did i say, huh?"

little one who works really hard colouring for me, padding over with a paci in their mouth to tug at my skirt. once i lean down to see what they want, they pull their precious drawing from behind their back and shove it in my face!

"oh, look at this! how beautiful – let's get this masterpiece hung up, hm?"

picking them up and letting them help me hang the picture, being so gentle and proud with their work.

"little artist, you're turning this house into a proper art museum! everyone's going to want to meet the next picasso soon," i nuzzle their nose with mine, "but you'll always be my precious baby, isn't that right?"

little one who suffers from heat exhaustion, getting sleepy and dazed in the summer. carer who gets them on a schedule including naptime, and has a special routine just for them!

when lunchtime ends, i change them into some cool pajamas and tuck them in with a cooling blanket and pillow, making sure to turn a fan on and to close the blackout curtains.

cuddling my baby up close and reading them a story while soft ocean noises play in the background, and stars glitter on the ceiling!! puttering about quietly while they sleep and carrying a baby monitor with me in case they wake up and need another story ᰔ

always waking them up with a sweet treat and cold water, asking how they slept and then going about our day as usual!!

little one who gets shy when they regress, shrinking in on themself and going all quiet and wide-eyed. their carer notices and starts cooing at them, petting their baby's head.

"is that mama's baby? oh, look how precious, so curious and sweet. c'mere, sweetheart, let mama hold you. i've missed my baby so much!!"

little one who struggles regressing and is always worried about being a nuisance, carer who encourages them to slip when it's been a while, easing them into it; "even if it's only age dreaming, baby, it'll be good for you to relax. why don't you let (title) take care of you for a while, yeah?"

little flower who is prone to stumbles, who is used to getting up themselves and moving along without any comfort.

carer who starts catching them, or at the very least settling down next to them with a worried look. they pull out a pre-packed medkit and set to work bandaging any scrapes the little one has, from that fall or previous, much to their baby's delight.

"you packed that for me?"

"everything in this bag is for you, silly! you're being so brave, by the way. I'm sure that was scary, but you're doing so well. (title) will take care of you now, okay?"

the little one ducks their head to hide the tears gathering in their eyes, nodding shyly. they sit patiently (or as patiently as a little tot can be!) while their carer fixes them up, and then ends everything with kisses over the colourful bandages.

"there you go, sweetheart. i'll check them properly when we get home, but for now you're all done!"
