ASSESSMENT 3
In this assessment, the theme I chose is the Louvre Pyramid. In other subjects, I have done magazines, slides, etc. Therefore, in this assessment, I chose to make a website to show my interview, which will let me The homework does not seem rigid, adding some fun, and at the same time, it can better show the research I have done.
Tumblr media
This is the plan I made before I started designing the website. It contains the things that should appear on my website, as well as the basic layout, which can help me complete the design of the website.

Final reflection
Our first semester is coming to an end. The biggest problem we encountered this semester was to change from teaching in the classroom to online teaching. When we are confused about some problems, online teaching is not conducive to explaining clearly. We can only communicate through microphones and texts, this is a big challenge, but finally, we are all done. The advantage of online teaching is the weekly lectures, which are displayed in the form of videos. When we don’t understand a problem, we can watch it repeatedly, which is very good for us to understand the information conveyed by the lecture. In the weekly lecture, we learned some knowledge about the history of design. I think this is very important for us to learn design in the future.
I really like our class, and I think Andy makes it interesting and not boring, the discussion in the class is the same. We completed our two assignments, during the trial and practice, we learned how to communicate your idea and added experience in developing projects. I think that design is often silent. Creative thinking and visual experience are an important part of design. Good design can raise the interest of the audience and clearly convey the information we want to express. In our lives, design is everywhere, and inspiration comes from our daily life. It is very important to discover the art in life. In this semester I learned a lot about design knowledge and skills, which I think will help me a lot in the future. In the end, everything will be okay!

The expression of cubism is to destroy and dismember the object, and then piece it together to show its different sides. So I decomposed Picasso’s photos from different periods and used one part of each photo to redisplay Picasso’s face, also some other elements have also been added.
Tumblr media
For the numbers of these five questions, I show them in my own way. I made each word into a three-dimensional effect, and used different colors in each area.

ASK ME ANYTHING
The topic I chose for this assignment is Cubism, which is also the last assignment of our semester. I asked five questions about Cubism and answered them, and wrote them together. I think the slides look a bit monotonous, and I have done many slides in my previous assignments, so I made this a magazine.I made some images and text on this topic and put them in it.
I think this may make people more interested in reading and more interesting, and the content layout may need some modification.

WEEK11 WHAT’S NEXT FOR DESIGN
In this lecture, we will discuss parametric and generative design practices, data visualization, and in general, how communication design can be transformed through emerging technologies such as machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Tumblr media
“Parametric design is a paradigm in design where the relationship between elements is used to manipulate and inform the design of complex geometries and structures.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are the advantages provided by 3D parameter modeling over traditional 2D drawings:
The ability to produce flexible designs The 3D solid model provides multiple ways to view the model Better product visualization because you can start with simple objects with the least detail Better integration with downstream applications and shorten engineering cycle Existing design data can be reused to create new designs Quick design turnaround and increase efficiency
So it is often used in architectural design

LEC 11
In this lecture we learned about parametric and generative design practices, data visualization, and how communication design is usually transformed through emerging technologies such as machine learning and AI. And there is a question, what is the next step in the design?
Tumblr media
In this picture, the designer TEMPTONE is using an eye writer. He was diagnosed with ALS and the disease almost completely paralyzed him, except for his eyes. Members of Free Art and Technology (FAT), OpenFrameworks, the Graffiti Research Lab, and The Ebeling Group communities collaborated to create a low-cost eye-tracking system for patients diagnosed with ALS, so that they can follow the eye movements to paint.
I think this is a very good device, it can help designers and artists who can't use their hands to continue to create and design. Now, science can help us design and make some impossible things possible.
Tumblr media
The use of artificial intelligence is becoming more and more extensive, it can help humans to complete the work that takes a long time to complete in a short time. There are already existing programs and some ideas about using artificial intelligence to help people typeset. We only need to input the pictures and text we need, and we will soon get a beautifully laid out design.

LEC 10
This lecture made me think about using design to convey some important information, and to express some social and political problems.
Tumblr media
Some topics or ideas cannot be expressed in words, or perhaps the expression of words is not convincing and clear enough. Using some design to convey information may be a better and more effective way. It is more intuitive, more obvious, and even more direct than text. We saw some examples in the magazine Colors.
Tumblr media
Benetton’s advertising design has always caused controversy before. It has faced serious problems in many societies. Advertising is full of elements of diversity that are very rare in the 1980s and 1990s, involving racial discrimination, religious conflicts, various political issues, and even AIDS,Themes that seem unrelated to fashion. This also caused great controversy of Benetton, and people haved mixed opinions about this expression.
Some of the more taboo topics are not usually discussed directly, but through art and design, these issues can be easily displayed.

LEC 8
The focus of this lecture is 20th century Italian Futurists, it glorified modernity and aimed to liberate Italy from the weight of its past, It emphasized speed, technology, youth, violence, and objects such as the car, the airplane, and the industrial city. They broke many traditional design rules and traditional models.

Joseph Stella,Brooklyn Bridge
Zang Tumb Tumb is a sound poem and concrete poem written by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, The work is now seen as a seminal work of modernist art, and an enormous influence on the emerging culture of European avant-garde print.
Tumblr media
Futurists did help shape the way others in the 20th century went on to imagine what the future could look like. Even today, people are still interested in futuristic aesthetics, which is still reflected in many designs today,

LEC 7 Bauhaus
In this lecture we learned about Bauhaus, a German art school. It was grounded in the idea of creating a Gesamtkunstwerk in which all the arts would eventually be brought together. It was founded by architect Walter Gropius in Weimar.
Tumblr media
The Bauhaus movement has had an important impact on the development of architecture, graphic design and typography. Staff at the Bauhaus included prominent artists such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, etc.
The Bauhaus font is called Universal and was designed by Hungarian graphic designer Herbert Bayer in 1925. He believes that capital letters are not necessary, he combined capital letters and lowercase letters, and also chose a sans serif font, which is "Reducing to essential".
Tumblr media
I am also interested in Das triadisches Ballett. Costume is related to geometric form. Bauhaus focuses on functionality and throws away useless decorations. It is divided into three parts: yellow pink and black. The geometric form of the costume combined with the robot's dance moves attracted the attention of the audience.

Here are some other letters I collaged, some using white paper, some using newspaper. There are more materials that we can use, and different cutting methods can make the letters have more shapes.

Collage
In today's class, we learned some about collage. This is more common in our lives and will also appear in some design posters and magazines, by which art results from an assemblage of different forms, thus creating a new whole.
Tumblr media
We tried using collage to create some letters today, and my group tried to spell out the letters with cut magazines or newspaper that was cut out to complete the sentence "Be happy". The letters I completed were the capital letter B and the letter e. I cut the newspapers, cut them into different shapes, and then put them together to complete the letters I needed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My group members also did a perfect job, which is the final work of putting our letters together.

LEC 6
The Space of Design
In this lecture we discussed the space and proportion in design, such as Divine Proportion, which is common in mathematics, but also important for design.
Tumblr media
The Van de Graaf canon used in book design to divide a page in pleasing proportions, was popularized by Jan Tschichold in his book The Form of the Book.
The empty space
The empty space is a part of the design, and the use of the empty space can also be used as a design element, white space is to be regarded as an active element, not a passive background period. which is reflected in Jan Tschichold's book "New typography". The New Typography was organized around these principles: asymmetric balance of elements, content designed by hierarchy, attentional white space utilization and sans serif typography.
Tumblr media
Asymmetric balance of elements
The benefit to asymmetric layout is it allows a designer to direct the eye, drawing attention in non linear hierarchical fashion. Asymmetrical designs can evoke feelings of movement and seem more modern than symmetrical designs.

LEC 4 Printing
In this lecture we learned about the development of printing. From the earliest use of woodblock prints in 888, such as the Diamond Sutra from China; to 1041, Bi Sheng invented the clay type printing, which was the earliest movable printing; and in the 1400s, engraved woodblock prints in Europe , Also called xylogtaphy.
Tumblr media
In the 1440s, Gutenberg invented the movable metal type wooden press. Before that, the printing method was very slow and laborious. The printing method invented by Gutenberg is different from the previous. He used technology to make this a lot easier. So that book production can become an industry, the Bible is the first book to use this kind of printing.
This is a picture for comparison
Tumblr media
After this, the spread of print press became faster, especially after Columbus and Dagama opened up trade routes, in the 1500s.
Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli began to associate letters and geometry, including later Francesco Torniello. In Germany and other regions in Europe, they also applied mathematical principles and proportions to letter forms
