I had to gather all my willpower to get out of YouTube because I'm leaving comments that make me look like an 80 y/o grandma.

my conspiracy theory is that katseye is a group of very young girls being exploited and overly sexualized for the sake of profit, and those in charge are taking care of creating all the evidence necessary to prove these girls are happy, comfortable, in control, agree with the artistic concepts and even consider them to be genuine and true to themselves.

I don't care if I sound old fashioned, I don't care if I sound puritan, I don't care if you believe these girls are in control of what's going on around them and happy with what they are doing, because I can't un-see how easily it would be for these girls to be controlled and manipulated by the people in charge, because the environment in which they've grown, and now exist, as professionals, is not one where people are valued as humans, to the producers they are a product, and if they need to become someone else entirely to sell it then that's what they'll do.

To me it seems like whoever is in charge of the direction of this group decided that doing kpop is not gonna work AS they want it to (meaning, they want something new that speaks GLOBAL, which is clearly not kpop) so they said oh well let's try doing something that hasn't been done in kpop and see how well it does, and that's how gnarly was born. Honestly the group was never meant to be like Twice or even Blackpink, they want to produce global music using the kpop formula but that's it. If you want kpop you have many many options, katseye clearly isn't one of them, so they had to make it appealing somehow different. If they weren't gonna shine in kpop, then they'll shine in gnarly type of stuff. That's alright, it's strategies and whatever, but to claim this new concept truly reflects the girls is fucking dirty, to link it directly to their personal growth and authentic selves is bullshit. We all know how the industry works, especially kpop fans, we know they are performers, the only people they are successfully lying to is fans who are not acquainted with the ruthless kpop industry, because of course we don't believe all members of a kpop group casually evolved their personalities right as they were working towards a debut, RIGHT???? but obviously Taylor swift and Olivia Rodrigo always create and produce from the core of their pop star souls.

Eyekons, that's not how it worksssssss. Katseye was conceived as a kpop group and they'll continue to be managed and produced as a kpop group, even if the songs and the choreographies are not kpop. They'll perform a thousand different concepts, clearly not every single concept is true to their personalities, they're just doing their job as performers and that's it. Do you think twice decided to wear all grey costumes for can't stop me because at that time they felt such a connection with that color that it truly represented who they were?????

Now, I think producers either believe the audience for katseye is too stupid and will buy their bullshit, or they know full well what they're doing. Now this is where my conspiracy begins, and it's not even a conspiracy, it's something that's very possible. I think producers know katseye performances are inappropriate for the members, especially for the youngest ones, and they know the 180 degree turn in the concept for the group is going to cause more than one controversy, so they're doing homework in advance making the girls reassure the audience that the concept fits them better than previous ones and they're very comfortable with their performances and whatever whatever.

Now, I'm not saying the kpop industry is any better, because no one wants to let you know just how bad idols are actually having it, so there's no real difference there, hiding idols' true struggles and discomfort isn't new, unfortunately. What I think is new is that they're pushing the authenticity factor here, when in reality the concepts and performances are never built around the members. The kpop industry is selling you products and they let you know it, not directly, but they don't hide it either, and the idols themselves know they are seen as products. What they're doing with katseye is trying to lure the audience into thinking these girls are performing as themselves, and maybe they try to make the girls think so as well. It's fucked up because I've seen statements everywhere about how the girls have fun experimenting and finding themselves, trying to make their jobs as performers (which is completely controlled by a team of people who leave them little room for choice, and whose priority is profit) look like a fun and healthy personal journey of exploration and finding of themselves, when in reality they're just performing a concept developed to do well in numbers, which isn't even a crime, that's the industry, but the reason they don't want the audience to notice this is because it's a challenging job that a group of girls in their teens/early twenties cannot handle easily, there's some struggle to it, if not a lot. They know the girls got through a lot, especially for their age and background, and don't want to face any of the backlash that could come from that, because that backlash wouldn't go to the girls for "not being true to themselves", it would go to them for putting girls through this.

PLEASE HELP ME FIND A BOOK

I had a dream last night where I was Dolores Umbridge's daughter and we lived in Howarts and she was abusive and cruel and scary, and then one day when a giant attacked us a guy was lying on the ground beneath like my window or something, and he was hurt and I took him into my room and took care of him but was really scared Dolores was gonna find out and be pissed and throw him out and beat me, so I created this plan in a rush to escape with him, and we did escape tho not together, and we lived very happy in a tent in the woods. So I'd like to read a book with a similar plot or just similar vibes, where the characters take care of each other and are helping each other escape from desperate situations, but they do end up together (this is important because I don't like sad endings I want them to be together). If you happen to know a book like this, please tell me, I'd love to read it.
