Been seeing Nirvana Fallacy-spouting idiots on the left whining about Biden a lot, so I’m just going to put this here:

In essence, since the US Government is a deeply corrupt and violent institution–which I do agree with–defeating Trump and electing Biden is not worthy of celebration, because Biden is not perfect.  Ergo, the person argues, we should stop celebrating Trump’s loss.

This is stupid.

We know that Biden is not perfect.  But saying that we shouldn’t celebrate the defeat of a fascist and attempted dictator because his replacement isn’t perfect and ideal is absurd, and that sort of self-defeating attitude isn’t worth engaging with.

is this the etymological fallacy? Wikipedia specifically lists this argument ("antisemitism means discrimination against all semitic people") as an example.

(There's also the fact that "semites" is an obsolete racial classification but that's not what I'm asking about... sigh)

It is indeed the etymological fallacy!

The meaning of a word can be guessed based on its building blocks but the real meaning doesn't always match that. Another example is that "inflammable" and "flammable" mean the exact same thing even though most people would interpret the former as "not flammable" based on other words with similar structure. When people use the etymological fallacy they ignore that and try to argue that they are right about the real meaning of a word in flagrant disregard for the hard work of lexicographers.

"are by definition literally" in this screenshot is also a good example of a different etymological concept: that of "literally" meaning the antithesis of its classical definition -- because antisemitism was coined to mean, currently is used to mean, and is in the dictionary (OED, webster, the whole shebang) to mean discrimination or hate against jews.

hey if y'all have reusable water bottles, please make sure you're also CLEANING them regularly.

the gaskets and straw inserts and straws themselves, even if you are Only Putting Water in them, can and will eventually mold and depending on water quality will get mineral build up on and in them.

if you do not clean these regularly, the mold can make you sick. you should also always clean these after you've been sick so you don't catch the same thing /again/

hot soapy water is fine, just make sure you get inside of straws and under gaskets. pipe cleaners work relatively fine as straw cleaners <3

got cornflakes for fried chicken & the back of the box has its own recipe. easy as pie. "rinse chicken tenders with cold water and coat with crushed kelloggs corn flakes cereal." and then cook. no binding agent. no seasoning. nothing but a pile of flavorless chicken with a side of the extra-dried-out cornflakes that fell off it. serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce. doesnt even say serve hot.
