We got up early last weekend to do some casting off the dock at Hush Lake. Addy came to me as I was making my 5AM coffee and said "Dad, it's really early, are you certain the fish are even up yet?" Hot weather has meant some family time "creek engineering" to make pools to sit and cool down in. Of course, it's always important to make sure you don't block or disrupt spawning routes, and it's fun to build rock stacks and see how long they last and whether strangers add to them. One been forging some tongs recently. It's so useful to actually have tongs in the shapes you need! Bolt-jaw for a nice grip on square stock while it gives a polite reach-around, slot-jaw for holding a variety of shapes more securely and scrolling tongs, because sometimes it's nice to add some shapes by bending hot metal, and not use savagely ground recycled pliers with no leverage. https://www.instagram.com/p/CSP5dVDBygZ/?utm_medium=tumblr

My first quenched knife ready for tempering (1084, stock removal by file), my first stock removal kiridashi from a planer blade with birch root burl handle and my first "KSO" of mild steel from before I knew anything about knife making.
