Habits to Change

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, The courage to change the things that I can, And the wisdom to know the difference.

The first time I heard this prayer was back in high school. It was a custom for us to pray before starting a class and our English teacher would always start her prayer with this. It's always stuck to me because it's easy to remember and it's simple yet somewhat complete. There are things we cannot change and we can't do anything about them but accept it. These things are no longer within our control except God's, so we ask Him to help us accept and live on. It may be difficult but the more we have to. There are things we can change. The bad habits we've learned to do through the years. We can learn to stop doing them despite it being hard to do so. That's why we God for courage, to face each and everyday. Courage to fight off the temptation and courage to face our old selves because it's always scary to do something new, something we're not used to. But how do we know which things to change and which to accept? It's quite hard especially when we think we can change something we really have no control of. We can't control other people. We can't control their decisions. We can influence their decisions, but we should never control them.

Surreal

Everything right now feels surreal. Gushes of emotions fill me like a huge wave. Happy. Excited. Confused. Afraid.

I thank God for giving me more than enough blessings in life. I thank Him for my family, albeit a little crazy and frustrating at times, they're still here whenever I need them.

I thank Him for wonderful friends who will listen to me no matter how unreasonable I become. I love you guys.

I thank God for a lot of things, but in the end, I thank God for this life. Without it, I would not know what pain feels like, what happiness is, what true friends are like and how beautiful each and every day is.

Performing

It's been a while since I last updated! Work has been toxic and baking Christmas goodies hasn't really helped lighten any load. But it's all my decision so I have to deal with the stress and what not's. The company Christmas party is this coming Tuesday and our theme will be carnival! I'm really excited and also a bit nervous because I'll be performing (again) but this time it's because I volunteered to do so. I've missed singing a lot and since I don't do much when I get home cos I'm so drained, I decided to spend some time doing recreational things. Like baking for example. But the one thing that took more courage out of me was to actually volunteer to perform at our company Christmas party :) Can't wait!!

Growing Up Too Fast or Too Slow?

There are times when I feel like I'm all grown up and I can do whatever I want to. I can make my own decisions and just be independent. But there are also times when I realize that I'm not that old and I'm not that independent yet. I'm still a child who knows nothing of the real world. I can't help but think about other people who get married young, who are allowed to have a relationship early, who are allowed to drive as soon as they turn 16 (some even younger). What makes them different from me? Why is it that they're given more freedom and more responsibility earlier than me? Am I that irresponsible that I can't think for myself? "Mom knows best. Dad knows best." "Your parents love you." "Don't rush into it." We have but one life. Can't we do things to enjoy ourselves? What's wrong about making some mistakes down the road? Won't that actually make us stronger? Wiser?

Haunting Dreams

It's a bit annoying that the only dreams I remember are the bad ones. If I do have nice dreams, I don't really remember any part of it. Maybe I'm just a miserable person deep inside? Maybe I just never know when to accept I'm happy? Or maybe I'm not truly happy? I admit I can be a pessimist. It's natural. I'm not a deep believer so I don't always think every little thing will turn out right because God's just challenging us. I didn't have a smooth childhood so I've never really felt like I'm lucky. Once in a while, sure, when I see street children, war and calamity victims. But most of the time, I just wonder, is this all there is to my life? Will I be forever stuck in limbo?
