REMIX from Suzanne Murphy on Vimeo.
This is the Remix video I created during my Remix course with the Contemporary Art Academy. Learning with my classmates in a live, interactive environment has been such an inspiring experience.
The video is a personal and eclectic montage, featuring random writing cut-outs, videos, paintings, sketches, and photos I developed throughout the course. It also includes macro lens close-ups of my remix diary, filled with handwritten notes, small objects from my surroundings, imperfect Polaroids, stamps, and collaged cut-outs.
What makes this video particularly interesting is its deeply personal and tactile nature. It blends analog and digital elements in a way that reflects the fragmented, layered experience of memory and creativity. The juxtaposition of intimate, everyday objects with experimental visuals creates a narrative that feels both universal and uniquely mine.
The soundtrack further amplifies this sense of intimacy, incorporating my voice reading from the diary, audio from a film I made of my daughter’s school play, and even the sound of my husband snoring. These unexpected yet poignant elements make the piece feel authentic and relatable, offering glimpses into my personal life while inviting viewers to find their own connections.
A big thank you to Sam for the amazing lessons and guidance, and to my classmates for sharing your creativity and insights during the live sessions. It’s been fantastic creating alongside you and hearing about your work. This course has been a joy, and I’m proud to add this project to my portfolio.

A collage inspired by how I feel listening to both of these songs. Song 1 - God Only Knows - Beach Boys Song 2 - Play Dead - BJORK
I first listened to both songs and wrote down how I feel. Then I cut up the words and put them back together to make this ransom style note. I found this tricky because I never think much about how music makes me feel, i just listen to it. I feel this collage represents these words. Contrasting images of nature and industry. The dots are a nod to Baldessari.
I made use of the free stock image library at upsplash.com to find relevant images and then adjusted them in photoshop to get the dreamy vibe. I was happy to show nature winning.
I did learn from this project as it made me look at things sideways and upside down if that makes sense.
