I have had another idea for a type of Bingqiu fanfiction that could be both angsty and loads of fun!
SVSSS's Luo Binghe and Shen Yuan transmigrate into PIDW as a late story Bingge and either a random wife, a still living antagonist, or a newly minted version of his old self, respectively.
Bingmei is horrified to find himself back in a shitty world full of wives he doesn't care for. Plus this is after Bingge merged the realms, so there are boatloads of consequences resulting from both that and all the other nonsense Bingge got up to (possibly including a bunch of young children with his various wives). He wants nothing more then to leave and go back to his own world, with his own beloved husband, but this voice in his head calling itself 'the System' won't let him.
The System reassures Binghe that to avoid a "second catastrophic protagonist breakdown," User 002, formerly cast as "Shen Qingqiu," has been brought along as well. (Quizzing the System reveals the first "catastrophic protagonist breakdown" is why Binghe was brought here. The previous "Luo Binghe instance" was apparently "too unstable" and "had to be replaced"). Unfortunately the System is much less helpful when it comes to informing Luo Binghe who his Shizun happens to be now.
Shenanigans ensue as Luo Binghe first works to track down his beloved (not knowing what skin he happens to be wearing now) and then works with him to bring some kind of stability to the horrifically mangled world they now live in.
There are so many ways things could play out with just this scenario!
One could write a story focused on just Luo Binghe tracking down Shen Yuan's current self, and the inevitable reveal that this transmigration thing happened to Shen Yuan once before, or the story could be about both that and the two of them stepping up and putting the world back together after someone else went and wrecked it.
The information on PIDW we have is vague enough that all sorts of options exist in terms of worldbuilding and emphasis on that end too:
The story could be a political intrigue where all sorts of complicated political maneuverings are required to materially improve people's situations and return some amount of self sufficiency after decades (or perhaps centuries) of Bingge's tyrannical rule.
It could be about the environmental changes of the merged realms, the various species that are either struggling or thriving, the changes people need to make to deal with this 'new normal', and so forth.
It could also be about the personal struggles of the wives, the "villains," the children, and so forth that Bingge left behind. How to work with them, help them heal and/or move on, etc.
One could also go the silly route and lean in on the absolute absurdity of the entire situation. The pure confusion at Luo Binghe's sudden complete change of character, and the seemingly random person he only now decided to crown as empress.
If anyone has their own thoughts and ideas on a "Bingmei permanently replaces Bingge in the world of PIDW, and his Shizun is brought along" type scenario, I'd love to hear about them!

Shen Yuan is *so* funny as a Fish Out Of Water character because on the one hand, yeah, he's entirely distanced from the main bigotry of the setting enough that he seems startlingly wise and compassionate and forgiving just for spouting out cliches he's seen a million times before because demons fully aren't real where he comes from
But he's also. Like. Actually embarrassingly homophobic (mostly but far from entirely self-directed) in ways the natives to this setting cannot possibly understand or even recognise.

Shen Qingqiu gets cursed after the Abyss with the 50 First Dates curse, where he can't retain his short term memory so every morning he wakes up and thinks it's the morning of the day he got cursed.
Except technically he got cursed shortly before embarking for the Immortal Alliance Conference (random demon, plant, old enemy seeking revenge, take your pick), it just didn't kick in until a few months later. So his amnesia takes him back to a few days before the conference.
The rest of Cang Qiong does their best to try and keep him calm and comfortable while Mu Qingfang works on a cure. Arguably it's a mixed blessing, given the depression spiral he was in before -- it's swiftly decided that trying to keep him up to speed on what happened since he was cursed is not ideal, the few times they try it he gets so upset at not knowing the particulars of why and how Luo Binghe "died" that he almost qi deviates. So instead, his disciples just trade off telling him that Luo Binghe has gone off on an unexpected mission, but will be back in a day or two. Ning Yingying starts crying the first few times, but Shizun just tuts about youthful feelings and assures her that Binghe will be back soon. Ming Fan handles it better, since even though he's surprised to find himself grieving his obnoxious shidi a bit, he's nowhere near overwrought and is mostly relieved that he can help his shizun keep his peace, even if it is as the expense of lying to him. The work it out where mostly it's Ming Fan who tells Shen Qingqiu that Luo Binghe is just away, and Ning Yingying who distracts him from noticing all the ways in which time has passed, while the senior Qing Jing disciples handle the administrative tasks that Shen Qingqiu is no longer fit for or might be distressed by (aka anything that reveals how much time has passed and that the IAC has come and gone).
Shen Qingqiu still goes to Jinlan City, mainly because he's such a high risk for qi deviations if/when something disrupts the illusion that Mu Qingfang doesn't want to leave him without either himself or Liu Qingge, but the plan is to investigate and be out of the city again by nightfall. That sort of falls apart when Luo Binghe shows up, and chaos ensues.
Because initially Shen Qingqiu doesn't understand. He thought he had a sudden new mission to run with his shidis, he still thinks it's before the conference, and that Luo Binghe is on a quest of his own (probably scoring another girlfriend for his future harem). So why did Binghe suddenly show up? Why is he with the Huan Hua Palace disciples? Why does he look older?
Meanwhile Binghe knows even less of what to make of his shizun's reaction to him. One minute he's greeting him as if nothing has changed, like a phantom out of Binghe's dreams, the next he's confused, the next he's frightened, then he's asking Binghe what's happened, and etc etc. The other peak lords are even MORE protective and suspicious of Luo Binghe's return from the dead and sudden new affiliation with a different sect, but Luo Binghe still manages to corner his shizun and run him down and feed him his blood.
Then the next day arrives, and Shen Qingqiu doesn't remember any of it. Huan Hua Palace and Zhuzhi Lang still set him up for trial and accusations, but the other peak lords object and explain the whole amnesia situation, Shen Qingqiu is terrified because as far as he knows he just went from Impending Abyss Situation straight to Luo Binghe is Out and Wants Me Dead Now, and Luo Binghe is slowly realizing that tomorrow his shizun isn't going to remember any of this.
His shizun isn't going to remember their 'reunion', or their parting, he isn't going to remember the conference, and he isn't going to remember that Binghe is a demon.
Luo Binghe torpedoes the trial by withdrawing his accusations and siding with Cang Qiong, so that they can take Shen Qingqiu back to Qing Jing Peak while the claims against him are 'investigated' (read: buried). Then he cleans himself up, acquires a fresh set of Qing Jing disciple robes, a minor illusion charm that makes him look a few years younger, and heads back to Qing Jing Peak.
Everyone has some dubious sentiments about this, but there's not much to be done. Luo Binghe did side with Cang Qiong in the end, and whenever he shows his face, they can hardly explain to Shen Qingqiu why he shouldn't treat his favorite disciple the same way he always has. Liu Qingge watches them like a hawk, but nothing untoward seems to be happening apart from the sort of lying that the rest of the sect was already engaged in. Mu Qingfang redoubles his efforts to find a cure, but his efforts are undermined by Luo Binghe.
It's not that Binghe doesn't want Shizun to be cured. Eventually! He knows it wouldn't be good for him to keep on like this forever. But he needs to make sure that the cure won't restore the memories of what happened after he got cursed. He can't let Shizun remember the conference, or their original parting, or their real reunion. He needs this time to figure out what the best approach to explaining his situation to Shizun is, over and over again, until he gets it right. Until Shizun doesn't reject him. Or, if that's not possible, then he needs to make sure that he never learns about Luo Binghe's demonic heritage again.
The cure will happen! It just has to be the right cure.

Are you a shen qingqiu harem believer ?
Oh absolutely (⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝) I have always been a shameless multishipper, and SVSSS makes it sooooo easy. This man deserves to be adored by everyone, so jot that down.
(Plus, on a more Literary Analysis Level, I really like how it both maintains the harem trope from PIDW, just displaced onto SQQ, but also seems to completely subverts the stallion trope. Instead of one overpowered character having meaningless sex with tons of women, it becomes one man who frequently needs help and is in distress, and yet is still able to spread so much love to other people -- with no expectation or desire for sex -- that it's completely alters the narrative of the story he's in and saves most of their lives. The power of love and friendship is doing some heavy lifting here, there's no avoiding it and I am a SUCKER for that!! Which is to say, on a literary level everyone should love SQQ and I firmly believe this u.u)
(...Also LBH being driven slowly insane with jealousy is good for him, it's enrichment -- he no longer has a big harem of his own that's overflowing with drama, he's got to get it outsourced now)

Shen Qingqiu: Consent is very important! I think consensual non consent is (probably) disgusting and weird! But I also need to pretend I don't want to and that am only giving in because of pressure because I get embarrassed easily. But I'm actually super into it.
Luo Binghe: THIS IS A CONSENT ONLY HOUSEHOLD! WE ONLY DO IT WITH EXPLICIT CONSENT! Which considering Shizun's thin face means waiting for him to hit me with his fan and to tell me to ask again properly. (properly means crying)
Shang Qinghua: consensual non consent is hot in theory and in fics but I'm an old man and prefer just talking about kinky stuff while boning like normal
Mobei Jun: anything but being naked and saying "we will fuck now" does not get through to Qinghua. My only option is explicit consent because otherwise he thinks I mean something else and leaves
Luo Bing-ge: what is consent? I have not experienced it from either direction.
Shen Jiu: I am the only person whose consent matters and I don't. Ever. In fact don't look at me or speak to me or think about me
Yue Qingyuan: consent is for other people. I don't get to. This is fine 🙃
Liu Qingge: it depends if we're talking spars, duels, or fighting for your life. ...What do mean you aren't talking about fighting?
Tianlang-Jun: it's more fun with consent but also characters! Costumes! Is it really worth it without roleplay with a complete backstory and world building?

I often see posts talking about how Shen Jiu is a misunderstood character and everything he does gets seen as a crime. Being close to Ning Yingying and he is accused to be a pervert or even rapist. Going to a brothel to sleep and now he is a disgusting lecher, despite most men visiting brothels for actual sex and no one giving a damn about them. He once saves Liu Qingge's life and gets accused of attempted murder and one time he fails to save him and he gets believed to have actually murdered him.
But then they come to his situation with Luo Binghe and these posts talk about how Shen Jiu tried to actually kill that child and that nothing there was misunderstood.
However the thing is, we don't actually know if Shen Jiu in canon tried to kill Luo Binghe. Because all the points we have heard of the instances where Shen Jiu apparently tried to kill Luo Binghe, according to Shen Yuan, make little sense when thinking about it.
With the fake manual the novel contradicts itself, where in one part it says Shen Jiu gave it to Luo Binghe and in another it says Ming Fan did it. So we can not say which is true.
During the sect invasion it would make no sense that Shen Jiu would risk the entire sect to be killed, himself included, by using the tournament to have Luo Binghe killed during the tiebreaker fight. After all he was the only adult cultivator, with only a bunch of kids as backup, against a whole demon army. Not to mention he just escaped from the caves with the qi deviating Liu Qingge and thus probably was not in top form. They would have been all slaughtered if they had lost the competition, so why would Shen Jiu ever do that? Especially when we know how protective Shen Jiu is over Yue Qingyuan, who is the sect leader and on whose peak they had been, that he even accepted torture to just protect the other. So again, why risk something so stupid that would lead to his own demise?
And during the Immortal Alliance Conference Shen Jiu just found out that Luo Binghe is a Heavenly Demon; not just a regular demon, but a Heavenly Demon. In the middle of a demon invasion which is insanely suspicious and anyone would assume Luo Binghe is behind it or at least connected to it, and as such Shen Jiu was doing what a cultivator should be doing. Literally any cultivator who had found Luo Binghe would have been out for his life in that moment. And in Shen Jiu's case even that attempt to kill that demon was more or less that, considering he could have just actually killed Luo Binghe instead of just shoving him into the Endless Abyss that a demon could survive. He could have just simply killed him, as Luo Binghe had been entirely defenceless at that moment, and either drag his dead demon body to the others cultivators as a potential culprit or kick his dead body into the Endless Abyss afterwards if he was worried about being believed to having hidden a demon. But he just shoved him, alive and well.
Plus the same was said in Proud Immortal Demon Way about Shen Jiu wanting to kill Liu Qingge and supposedly having killed him in the end. But then we see that what Shen Jiu did multiple times is either save his life or at least attempted to. Not once had he tried to kill him, proving that this entire information about him being a murderer was false. So why would he constantly go out of his way to save (or attempt to save) the guy who was constantly bullying him and fighting him, thus someone he has genuine reason to hate, but try to actually murder a random kid he just does not like for random reasons? That makes no sense.
I mean Shen Jiu certainly had beef with Lou Binghe and singled him out to abuse him. He had it out for that kid. But nothing in canon actually states that he tried to kill him, aside from Shen Yuan's unreliable narration. The only one who says that Shen Jiu tried to murder Luo Binghe, was Shen Yuan, who we know is wrong about basically everything in the novel. So why are people always assuming that in this case he was right? Despite all these cases of attempted murder just making absolutely no sense.
