the fact that lisa’s character is what it is also because of the grief she’s gone through and keeps going through and yet, people are going on about her grieving for long enough already is baffling to me.

i get it, it can feel repetitive or like the writing is going in circles but that’s how grief is in real life. progress isn’t linear, it takes time and it’s often one step forward and three steps back. change happens in the long run and it doesn’t involve forgetting or not talking about our dead loved one anymore. unfortunately you don’t get over losing your wife in a traumatic way by falling in love with a new person, even if you were to find out years later that your partner wasn’t who you thought they were. there is no expiration date on grieving.

and carla has gone through grief herself enough times and is emotionally intelligent enough to understand that “giving lisa an ultimatum” would be absolutely harmful for lisa and absolutely pointless for the relationship. carla entered this relationship knowing lisa carries a heavy burden and she probably always will. lisa’s grief is lisa’s responsibility, meaning she has to take the necessary steps to avoid having it impact carla or the relationship or everyone else around her. but once lisa is doing the work, we can’t punish her for still going on about her dead wife. from what we can see, carla isn’t and she’s been amazing at supporting her. it’d be much much weirder if becky had been mentioned once and never again, like that woman, her love and her death, has shaped lisa’s personality.
