I did not expect to cry so much during 'overcompensating' but damnn, having an emo struggling with social norms belt out 'welcome to the black parade' while a queer person has their first queer kiss and it's with an old friend they had a homoerotic friendship with ? oh my f u c k.

discourse about redemption arcs would vastly improve if instead of always asking “is this character redeemable?” people started asking “what message would it send to redeem this character?” and “would it be logical or satisfying on a narrative level to redeem this character?”

I saw the ghost of dead gay Boone
call it cliche but I love a show where they call someone by a full name, a title or even straight up phrase

if you're not obsessed with a fucked up female character i hope that changes for you soon. becoming obsessed with a genuinely deranged fictional woman will change your life.

When you've been fed on a healthy diet of Riverdale cinematography for years watching other tv starts to get real scary...

if i put on the rocky horror show for a riverdale musical episode — like they put it on for the high school musical directed of course by kevin keller jughead would intro the episode with a spiel about how we’re going to explore the concept of sexual liberation. veronica would be gunning for the role of frank n furter due to ‘relating to his role of bringing the liberation of sexuality to those who desperately need it’ and also so she can feel up archie (playing rocky due to his thematic state as the object of other’s desires) and betty (playing janet natch) but a surprise move the role would go to reggie starting a fierce stage rivalry between the two so kevin gives her magenta. things get unexpectedly intense between archie and reggie during i can make you a man and theres a lot of awkward heavy tension and when reggie gets to do full costume sweet transvestite we keep cutting to archie’s awed vaguely horny face significantly and then later in the episode they cross cut between don’t dream it be it on stage and a tasteful archiebettyronniereggie foursome scene. toni is full butch drag king brad and she and betty make out rehearsing dammit janet. cheryl is playing columbia and is so mad about it and the episode cuts all the tap dancing. jughead of course is the narrator (of course) but he complains the whole time so they dont invite him to the foursome and he never finds out it happened. sweet pea is riff raff cause i like sweet pea but he and fangs (asst director) are hooking up behind kevins back and sing toucha toucha intercut with betty’s rendition. josie cant commit full time to the show so she plays eddie and outshines everyone forever. some of the parents try to get the show cancelled for being inappropriate for a high school musical (a la glee) and they are narratively treated as repressive unreasonable tyrants. at the end they all sing super heroes because it’s about the inherent depravity and darkness within humanity and the uncertainty/instability everpresent in our own existences and then someone’s like THERE’S A BOMB! (probably planted by hiram or a cult or a serial killer or something) so they all rush out of the gym just in time and it blows up the gym and smoke is everywhere a la the end of the movie and then we zoom out to a globe but it’s spinning so fast we can’t see where riverdale is. and narrator jughead is alone in a room and he knocks the globe over and says something about the dangers and delights of discovery but you can tell he’s just kind of mad about the foursome that happened without him.
#why did you steal roberto sacasa's idea journal and post it on tumblr#riverdale#heavy on the jose being Eddie cus shes busy that's hilarious omg

Purely episodic: Hits the reset button at the end of every episode (or every storyline in the case of a multiparter). Each episode is its own self-contained story and changes to the status quo are few and far between if there are any at all.
Episodic with continuity: Still no main plot to speak of, but things are no longer forced to stay static. Big events can happen and change that status quo, characters can go through arcs and develop and their relationships and situations can change
Episodic with a plot arc: There is a main overarching plot (possibly a single one for the whole series or one that spans just a season, multiple season or half of one, etc.) and episodes that are primarily devoted to that plot. But there are also episodes whose story is completely unrelated to that larger plot and which might contain little to no development towards it.
Episodic plot arc: There is a main plot arc and most if not every episode is pretty directly connected to it in some way or another. However the structure of the arc is such that each individual episode has its own fairly distinct story/plot/objective.
Pure plot driven: There is a main plot and each episode serves to further that plot. There should be some structure to each individual episode, but they are more like individual chapters in a novel and are liable to mentally bleed together somewhat especially if you’re binge watching.
**Keep in mind this is a loose spectrum not a list of completely discrete categories. Also many shows will fall at different places in this spectrum at different points.
