papyrus will always be sans’ little bitty bones brother . even if he’s now taller than him .

the nickname : PAPY , for papyrus came out due to two reasons .

the first reason was papyrus had difficulty pronouncing his full name  .  a common thing for most kids , but as such , the nickname made it easier for papyrus to introduce himself  .

the second reason was sans liked the sound of ‘ PAPY ’ better  .  it was so much kinder sounding than ‘papyrus’ , so much more fitting for his little baby brother who smiled up at him with those big old googley eyes and slept so soundly  .  to this day when both papyrus and him are grown , he still sees that lazy bones little baby who slept too much and babbled his name  .

not many people who aren’t very close to the font / skeletal brothers actually know their age - who’s the older , who’s the younger . they all just assume based on actions , due to the fact they do not generally announce it between the two of them  .  sans , who only calls papyrus “ papy “ or “ brother “ , and papyrus who calls him “ bro “ or “ sans “  . 

the fun situation with this , then , is when people who assume , due to his bubbly nature , bright nickname for his brother , and over the top nature , that sans is the younger brother , he gets to mess with them . by talking about fun words , topics , or other things ‘young’ skeletons shouldn’t know about .

tldr : sans likes being the memey troll .
