made me sad to see this come across my dash again when i'm still only at 2.5/17 (teacher, techbro, and arguably finance related when i was doing front end dev for a bank) but i'm working on it 🫡
You could theoretically add a few more like "petroleum industry," "lobbyist," and "any kind of defense contractor" but those are considered immoral by a somewhat broader swath of people than just Tumblr so it wouldn't be in the spirit of the list.
immoral careers according to tumblr:
doctor
nurse
psychologist
psychiatrist
therapist
police
teacher
techbro
anything in finance
military
politician
pharmaceutical industry
marketing
lawyer
judge
landlord
boss
#cal txt#(and yea this is very connected to some things i've said about how tumblr sees having power as inherently morally wrong. a bad position#to hold if you want to get anything done!)

Love the idea of Putin thinking, “Shit, I gotta make small talk. What would the leader of China be into? Immortality, right? Are they still into immortality?”

a few months back, I found my diary from when I was 13-14 and noticed that I commented two different times (??) that I found Canadian boys cute and wanted a Canadian boyfriend. which I found funny because I have no good explanation for that comment (was there some book or movie? Was there a particular guy I had a crush on I'm forgetting about?) but my husband happens to be Canadian.
This post makes it way funnier.
My work involving a bunch of reading on cultural communication styles and expectations at the same time as there's another round of 'men socialize like this/but women socialize like this' on here forcing me towards the unavoidable conclusion that being Canadian is extremely woman-coded. Very possibly the most woman-coded mostly-anglophone nationality there is.

There was a character in a book I read once who was described as "handsomely fat" and that phrase is stuck in my brain forever. The author really was like "no shut up, they're charismatic, they're good-looking, they're handsomely fat. not just handsome AND fat; them being fat is directly contributing to their good looks. you agree." and they were RIGHT

"I know Hazbin Hotel season 2 will be bad, but I'm still excited for some reason!" "I KNOW Hazbin is objectively awful but I can't stop watching it :(" "I'm going to HATE Hazbin Hotel season 2 I can't wait to watch it-"
Guys, you can just say "I'm excited for Hazbin Hotel season 2." That is a fine, acceptable, neutral sentence that any normal person is going to respond "Oh nice!" to and then ask how your weekend was because this isn't a comment section where everyone is so brainrotted and focused on seeming the Smartest and Rightest people in the world
"But I want people to know I know it has problems! I don't want them to think I like it blindly-" if someone hears you like a show and assumes you are incapable of doing so without critical thought, that is solely their problem and they aren't worth your time
#not only is it good for *you* to express genuine excitement for things but it's also good for the people around you. makes it clear#that they can do the same about the things they enjoy!#(i will say i dont think this phenomenon is anything new teenagers have been trying to act too cool to like things for ages)#BUT it's worth stopping anyway. love the things you love. kind of goes with prev rb too!

Important to be cool with liking mainstream/popular/hegemony-approved things without having to frame it as counterculture edginess for image reasons. Especially on Tumblr (but also outside it), you see people having this impulse to frame their interest in Marvel movies, Taylor Swift, etc as counterculture to be OK with liking it but you can just be cool with liking things that are popular! eg I love Radiohead and so does everyone else! I love writing about evil sadistic men and submissive women and so does everyone else! (I mean granted I'm often doing weird gender stuff with both of them and making one or both trans but not always, sometimes it's purely mainstream.)
There is ofc some nuance about how your interest can be seen as embarrassing among your friends even if it's accepted among most people but overall, you have to accept in your heart that you like something mainstream. Doesn't have to be an indictment of your character! And it also doesn't make you somehow a boring person. Billions of people have loved watching the sun set and made art about it and it continues to inspire.
#reblogging this again because it's relevant to prev rb#this ^ is just one particular case of the broader impulse to present yourself as the underdog.#your take can be mainstream and correct#the thing is then it isn't a “hot take” but like. it doesn't have to be. an idea being novel is not the same as it being right
