Thanks for your kind words and support of Grin & Bare It! I’ve been meaning to continue, I just don’t have time or bandwidth. I’m leaning into writing one shots or dabbles since they’re faster.

But on the plus side, most of chp 2 is already written. I was running into flow issues for the longest time and eventually gave up, lol.

I’ll try to see if I can get it out in the next month or so. I miss them, too. This was such a sweet note, thank you so much again xx

Your head rested on his chest. You could hear the crackling of the candles in the room, the thump of his heart beneath your ear. He absentmindedly twirled your hair around his finger. You felt yourself drifting, tired after the week that you both shared: counsel with municipality leaders, the birth of two new spawn, and a surprise visit from Wyll, the now Archduke of Baldur's Gate.

"You miss it, don't you?"

You stirred. "Miss what?"

His face hardens. "Them. Those ruffians you call friends."

You sit up, looking at Astarion. He won't look at you. He starts picking at the bed of his nails, his other hand falling to the small of your back.

"Your mean our friends?" you ask pointedly.

"Oh, darling, those were never my friends. I don't associate with vagabonds who roll in the dirt."

You open your mouth to challenge him, but he interrupts. His eyes return to yours.

"I saw how you looked when you were with Wyll. The answer is 'no.' I'm certain that our beloved Archduke is trying to rope you into another jostling adventure."

Your face falls.

"I love when I'm right."

"I never gave him an answer."

"You don't have to, my sweet. We're a team. I did."

"What?"

"He won't be back here."

"He was my friend, our friend, I-"

"The letter was already sent. Don't fret, my pet. I only want you safe."

Some berserk artists, including those working on miura's work, hate the idea of casca being dark skinned. The constant and gradual whitewashing of her character is sad to see.
