I'm writing a fic where the central dynamic is a platonic dynamic between the two main characters and it has a very gen-y plot that gen readers would enjoy. However, the nature of this dynamic is changed by one main character's relationship with his girlfriend. The romantic relationship is tagged, but it's mostly a plot device to push the platonic relationship to its limits. The central platonic relationship has no romantic jealousy or love triangle elements. It's very much a deal of "you could lose her if x y z don't happen".

Would this fic be better off being tagged gen or F/M? I know I can tag both, which is likely what'll eventually end up happening, but if only one had to be chosen, would not tagging it F/M even be correct?
