Building off of what the other anon asked, How long do alters go dormant? And can it be controlled or does it just happen?
sorry for a late reply!! we forgot about this maybe a little....
alters can go dormant for however long, we typically only count alters as being dormant if theyre dormant for more than a week or two!! but alters can be dormant for a short period of time up until the body passes. dormancy doesnt really have a limit!!
it can somewhat be controlled? like reducing stress factors or alters fronting. an alter being negatively triggered can cause them to go dormant. and you can cause an alter to go out of dormancy. again, it just honestly depends on the system and alters!!
we have an alter whos been here for years, he goes in and out of dormancy. hes really easy to take out of dormancy, just kind of talk about him or his source and he pops up a couple days later...
i hope this helped!!! -馃幈 (she/her)

what is dormancy??? i fllw a system and they talk about it and i am so lost?????
dormancy is basically when an alter becomes inactive, we like to explain it how a volcano goes dormant!
the alter can become active again, but they might not. and an alter might go dormant for multiple different reasons, such as stress or trauma. or the alter is just simply not needed. typically it takes awhile for an alter to go dormant
hope this helps! :3 -馃攲

How do system roles work ? How would an alter figure out their role ?
we personally see system roles as "jobs" that alters typically have, the roles can (usually) change and every system has different definitions of roles. some systems dont even use roles, while others use really detailed roles
some alters may not have an apparent role, its typically all up to the systems interpretation of a role
for example, our definition of a protector is "an alter who fronts to protect the system" we typically dont go more in depth about an alters role than that unless its for our counselor or ourself. like with protector, we'll go more in depth to say what they protect the system from ("verbal protector", "physical protector"). and protectors wont have one way of protecting the system, for instance one of our protectors used to put the body to sleep to protect the system from stress
we would figure out an alter is a protector if they fronted to protect us. by either deescalating the situation, just fronting to be there, removing us from the situation, or other ways
in all, system roles are not linear and is up to each system. not all systems need or have roles, while others helped
hoped this answered your question! -馃攲
