my favorite door in my 92 year old friend's building.
yesterday was my last time visiting her for a while. she said i had been a good companion to her, listening to all her stories. she said she was going to miss me and i told her truthfully that I would miss our time together as well! gave her the address of where i'll be and she said "ill drop you a line sometime".
she complimented my dimple and told me about her sister who was so beautiful when she was young but got fat later. she said maybe she has cancer in her lung (she probably doesn't) so hopefully she doesnt die before i come back and i said well yeah i sure hope so!
she tells me the same stories so often that its like i have learned them. i have this glimpse through them all of her as a person and its so beautiful to get to see that and see it with a person who's looking back on life.
i wish i could have done that with my grandparents. I think i was too afraid for some reason but now i seek it out in other places!
when i am my mothers age, she will be 91.
