yjnari:
a smile paints her visage though it’s lost in the surrounding darkness. this was her favorite atmosphere: no electricity, which gives her an excuse for being unreachable by phone ( not that she ever uses one, but it helps keep people off her back ). the dreadful silence is comfortable, especially with the storm in the background, offering the artist some ambiance while she attempts to set herself up. she’s prepared for this moment, of course; she’s got some candles and a flashlight ( thanks to the owners ), her sketchbook and drawing utensils and … ❝ shit, i forgot to stash some fuckin’ snacks. ❞ nari’s voice comes out in a harsh whisper, frustration weaved thickly between her words. there’s a slight huff as she removes herself from the pillow fort she’s created for herself; it’s much more comfortable than sitting on the ground.
armed with her lantern, nari carefully makes her way to the door and creeps out from her room to head towards the main building. her mind begins to wander as she ventures, allowing herself to be completely oblivious to the world happening around her. she doesn’t care how the other’s are faring throughout this ordeal, so long as she ( and her roommate, though she’ll never admit it ) is alright, nothing else matters to the woman. however, it isn’t long before her vision is obstructed, eyes burning as a bright light in shone into them. she immediately puts herself on the defense … until she hears the familiar voice. nari groans prior to offering a response, ❝ taeil——calm the fuck down, would you ? it’s me and i suggest you shine that flashlight elsewhere unless you want the damn thing shoved down your throat. ❞
he’s not quite sure how he missed her considering how vigilant he was with looking out for potential danger, but to say nari’s sudden arrival had scared the wits out of him would be a total understatement. as much as his heart was hammering against his chest, there was a minimal amount of comfort in the realization that the ‘intruder’ was, in fact, just another familiar face. even if she did sound kind of pissed right now.
raising his hands in a defensive ‘i surrender’ sort of way, the beam of light from the torch he carried was pointed elsewhere. taeil could only hope that the area was still dim enough that she couldn’t see the flushed pink of embarrassment across his cheeks.
“ oh, thank god. i thought i was in trouble for a moment there... “
he still might be depending on how annoyed nari was, but that much was at the back of his mind right now.
“ it’s pretty scary out here with this storm stuff, huh? “

minahyj:
a break. that’s all minah had needed, a quick escape from the sharehouse. hours spent at the meow parlour charging up her phone had definitely helped ease that feel of escape. she had only realised the time when the lighting outside had taken a turn, and now she was back in her room, some movie playing on her laptop; draining the mere battery life she had left.
it wasn’t until half way through that said movie when the girl had realised she seemingly had left her blanket in the living room from the previous night, shaking her head, she left her bed. everything always seemed more scary at night, the darkness hiding things your brain makes you believe. it’s no wonder half her housemates kept themselves in their rooms; far less terrifying than the being anywhere else in the house during the storm.
rolling her eyes when she came face to face with taeil, minah walked up towards him and pushed the flashlight out of her face. “ it’s me. the terrifying five foot one minah. really ? who’d you think it was ? “
taeil practically yelped as minah shoved the flashlight aside, body jolting with fright. so much for the ‘don’t mess with me’ bravado he’d put on mere seconds ago, but he quickly managed to calm himself upon realizing he’d ran into a housemate rather than an actual intruder -- though her own descriptor of terrifying most definitely still applied right now.
“ sorry! i just--! ”
cutting himself off, he took a split second to try and decide if confessing he’d scared himself silly with an assortment of horror movies was worth the embarrassment. shaking his head, he opted to give only a shrug of his shoulders instead, stepping aside in case minah simply wanted to continue on her way.
“ really, it could have been anyone. or anything. people come in and out of here all the time! “

julianyj:
it’s been an early night kind of day for julian, deciding to reunite with his bed earlier than usual and embrace sleep, letting his body catch up on all those missed hours that added up in his system during the past week. it’s been a long one, still in the process of getting accustomed to a new country and a new team and couch, which were a lot to take in such a short while. so it’s no surprise when julian falls asleep fast, exhaustion clearly evident in his body.
turning in his bed, julian awakes a few short hours later, yet way earlier than when he thought he’ll wake up, the culprit being his full bladder. he drowsily sits up in his bed as he reaches for his phone to check the time, scowling as he lets the device drop on his bed and stretching forward to grab a random hoodie thrown carelessly on the floor and putting it on. leaving his room on wobbly feet, most of julian’s limbs still half asleep, as he makes his way towards the toilet.
one toilet trip later, julian is ready to get back to his room but is suddenly stopped by an unfamiliar tenant. delving around in the dark, julian’s eyes are not accustomed to the harsh light coming from the other’s flashlight, so he quickly moves to cover his face with his hand. “ hey, dude– i promise i’m no burglar, just an innocent soul who wanted to pee ” julian’s voice is thick with sleep as he attempts an explanation in coherent korean. “ can you lower your light ? ”
taeil, as it turned out, was not the bravest of souls right now. even if the other had quickly declared his peace in an attempt to reassure him, taeil was still left reeling from the spike of adrenaline; eyes wide as saucers as he clutched a hand to his chest with a sharp breath. only after common sense kicked in again did he drop the light, arm falling back to his side as he let out a loud ( and somewhat dramatic ) sigh, resisting the urge to crumple against the nearest wall as the fear left him.
“ man, you got me good. “
it was a moment of bad timing rather than any sort of prank, but for some reason taeil felt like the butt of a joke right now regardless. managing to let out a sheepish laugh, he raised his free hand to rub awkwardly at the back of his neck, head tilting a little to the side.
“ i thought everyone else would be gathered in the main building by now... ”

for taeil to have watched a bunch of horror movies the night before the storm had hit was seriously unfortunate timing on his behalf. scenes both paranormal and just straight up gory lingered in the back of his mind more prominently than usual now that the majority of the sharehouse was shrouded in darkness, and as silly as he knew it was, it was hard for him to not associate each little sound around him with something that was out to get him.
flashlight in hand, he crept as silently as he could through the sharehouse, intent on camping out in the main building until this all blew over -- a safe zone, if you will -- hopefully sooner rather than later. at first he’d managed to keep his cool, seeming relatively unbothered about the situation but it wasn’t long before taeil was scurrying along the hall, mumbling nonsense under his breath to distract himself from the embarrassing sense of panic that was washing over him. it was only when he picked up on the sound of a door clicking nearby did he completely freeze in place like a deer in headlights, eyes wide as he shone the flashlight in the direction of the noise, likely directly in the poor unassuming person’s face.
“ who is it? who’s there? don’t mess with me! ”

ɪʀɪsᴇs ᴇxᴀᴍɪɴᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ ɪᴍᴍᴀᴄᴜʟᴀᴛᴇʟʏ ᴅɪsᴘʟᴀʏᴇᴅ contents of the hair-dye box with intrigue, calculating the procedure that was in preparation to ensue, as she slipped palms into the confinement of clear gloves; prevention of coloured hue staining digits. Eleonora was no expert in hair colouring, only having dyed once previous several years prior to date, but she was confident in her skills – she’d even watched a meticulously constructed YouTube tutorial before meeting with Taeil. With a hand shifting to position over a waistline, Eleonora relaxed in her stance and offered reassurance with the upturn of painted tiers.
“ ʏᴏᴜ'ʀᴇ ɪɴ ʟᴜᴄᴋ! ɪᴛ ᴊᴜsᴛ sᴏ ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴs ɪ'ᴍ ᴀɴ ᴇxᴘᴇʀᴛ –– my one experience has taught me all that needs to be known, ” Eleonora’s second palm clutched to a fist, determination igniting in onyx hues, “ You will be looking additionally handsome in no time! ” There was slight dramatisation in the emitting of syllables, reminiscent of a warrior ascending into war, Eleonora playful in her nature.
ᴅɪᴘᴘɪɴɢ ᴀ sᴋᴜʟʟ ᴛᴏ ɴᴇᴀʀ ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴏᴛᴛʟᴇ ɪɴ ᴛʜᴇ ɢʀᴀsᴘ of Taeil’s fingertips Eleonora scanned for guidance, brief, as she concluded examination with the slapping together of her palms … “ Chemistry was always one of my favourite subjects. ” Statement made was more for reassurance, though it rang true, as her fingertips repositioned to settle on the shoulders of the other; feather-like in their weight.
“ We should get started! –– So you can woo all the people of Yongsa. ”
“ one experience still counts as experience, i guess! ”
a master of the positive outlook, taeil could only nod his head in response, lips pursed as he turned to glance at the girl before letting out a soft chuckle. “ i’m putting all my faith in you right now -- no pressure -- but if it turns out badly, i will need you to buy me a nice hat. “
he was teasing of course, as he turned the bottle in his hands so she could see the writing more clearly before simply holding it out for her to take, assuming that was the step they started with. eleonora’s apparent knack for chemistry did manage to soothe him somewhat ( or maybe it was just her attitude that was more reassuring ) though he did still lift a hand to brush his fingers through his hair as if to enjoy it’s soft, supple state while it still lasted.
“ woo? no, no, no, i think you’re getting a bit ahead of yourself here,” taeil was quick to object, only slightly flustered at the mere mention of it. clutching the towel around his shoulders a little tighter, he took a seat on the chair closest to him so the process could begin. “ though i do look much better in red. “

yjseoks:
he waited, albeit rather impatiently for taeil’s response for the coffee call. he would have made some for himself either way, but there was a small comfort in knowing that he wouldn’t be the only one downing the caffeinated beverage in the late hour of the night. “ two coffees it is, then, ” he nodded “ i’ll be right back. ” jonas then set off down the hall for the kitchen area; hopefully he’d be able to find some instant coffee, because he knew he couldn’t be bothered in operating the coffee maker.
luck had seemed to smile upon him; he was quick to find the instant coffee, and quick to stick two mugs of water in the microwave for prep. a few minutes ( and a bit of sugar ) later, he was making his way back to the theatre room with both mugs in hand.
the minute his gaze met taeil’s frame, jonas made a noise to let the other known he had returned without speaking. the theatre room was quite the mess already, with the pre-construction of their late night creation. he promised himself he’d take back what he had taken from the apartment once they were done; the last thing that jonas wanted was for junseo ( sometimes known as the sharehouse maid ) to feel obligated to pick up their mess.
“ coffee, ” he spoke finally, mug held out invitingly for the other to take. “ i forgot what you liked in it, but i added a bit of sugar. ”
waving jonas off as he disappeared in search of a caffeine boost for each of them, taeil wasted no time in getting things started. growing up with several younger siblings, the activity of fort building was definitely not lost on him, making him somewhat of a seasoned pro at draping blankets over things to form a roof. hands on his hips he shuffled around the room, observing the chair-foundations he’d pulled together in a moment of quality control before approving with a firm nod. next came actually arranging the blankets, though he would rather patiently wait for jonas’ return for that part. building it together was eighty-percent of the fun, after all.
instead, he kicked all the blankets and the pillows into a pile nearby for ease of access, as well as a photo opportunity. fishing his phone out of his pocket, taeil grinned as he snapped a picture of the arrangement to upload it onto his socials -- halfway through typing up a caption when a noise from the doorway signified the others return.
“ sounds perfect, thank you! ” he chimed, hurriedly clicking ‘post’ on his phone screen before tossing it nearby onto one of the cushions on the floor nearby, reaching out to take the mug offered towards him. after taking a careful sip, taeil let out a contented sigh. as much as he preferred the taste of sugary sweetness, a good mug of coffee was really a tired art student’s best friend.
“ man, my brothers and sisters are gonna be so jealous about this. we haven’t built something like this in years. ” he spoke between sips as he turned back to the blanket pile, glancing back at jonas curiously. “ what about you? do you have siblings? “

as much as taeil enjoyed sporting vibrantly dyed hair, his minimal income made keeping it so colourful a difficult hurdle to jump. what was once a bright, fiery red had faded into a sort of peachy tone which might have been cute enough to keep if it wasn’t for the additional jet black where his hair had continued to grow over the weeks. only able to rely on hats for so long, and with the majority of his money going towards new paint supplies and snacks to feast on, taeil had resorted to a desperate attempt at box dyeing instead of a professional job -- enlisting the help of one of his housemates along the way.
stood in the communal dining area with an old towel draped across his shoulders, taeil methodically displayed the contents of boxes of bleach and dye in an almost aesthetically pleasing arrangement on the table in front of him ( as if that would actually help ) his tone playful as he chattered away with eleonora who had oh so graciously agreed to join him on this journey.
“ aha, you know, i really hope all these bottles and packets make more sense to you than they do to me. i’ve... never actually done this by myself before and for the sake of my scalp, i’d kind of like to keep it that way. ”
picking up a bottle labelled peroxide, he squinted at it suspiciously like it had caused him a personal offense.
“ science was my worst subject at school, and this is just chemistry thinly veiled as fashion, i’m sure of it. ”

minjunyj:
𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐘 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐈𝐌 to get lost within world of warcraft. it was something that had held his attention for over a decade now, submerging himself into the peak nerdy hobby since middle school. so enthralled by it, not even a incessant attack to his leg could bring him out of his gaming induced fog.
eventually, minjun paid taeil an iota of attention, wide eyes blinking in response lazily. ❝ am i that boring to you, taeil ? sorry my level 110 hunter orc isn’t enough to entertain you. ❞ he laughed airily, clearly joking, before finally bringing himself to closing the game & his laptop entirely. raids could always come later, even if he could already hear his online gaming clan berating him for abandoning them.
❝ let’s go out to eat, taeil. if you have to cancel my gaming adventure, at least make it up to me with a real one. ❞ & with that, he hopped off his couch, practically lunging for his nearby jacket, eager & ready to go immediately. ❝ hurry up, slowpoke. decide what you want to eat. also, you’re paying, ❞ minjun grinned mischievously. he had always been good at getting his way.
“ i don’t understand what those words mean and you know it. ”
taeil was, what the kids might call, a complete and utter casual when it came to video games of any sort. aside from an investment of a couple of hundred hours put into simple franchises like pokemon or animal crossing, he was practically a stranger to the gaming world -- something that was very obvious by the lack of proper response to what he could only assume was a bit of a flex. he did, however, perk up rather quickly as soon as minjun decided to close the laptop, already bounding off to retrieve his jacket before taeil could properly process what had happened.
pulling himself up from his seat to follow, taeil’s eyes widened somewhat at the other’s nerve; only able to laugh in both amusement and disbelief as he shrugged on his own coat.
“ woah, i’ve never known someone so kind! ” he declared sarcastically, pausing to pat minjun on the back with a thump, using just enough force for it to be a playful scolding. “ letting me pick where to go, and letting me pay? man, what a guy. ”
all things considered, taeil really didn’t mind. he found it almost endearing, in a weird way.
“ how about some barbecue? i’m starving. ”

meaningless bar work wasn’t exactly the job he’d hoped to get upon settling down in yongsa, but it was far from the worst case scenario. despite the odd problematic drunk here and there, the majority of patrons were friendly enough -- providing he served them quickly. already he could pick apart the regulars from the new faces, even managing to make a casual acquaintanceships with some of them; learning a name, a favoured drink, an occupation, and despite being relatively new, taeil had already earned a reputation among customers as being the sociable one who could always flash a smile -- but today that was quite far from the truth.
the dark circles that lined his eyes was already telling as to how exhausted he currently was; a lack of sleep as well as a busier than average schedule weighing down on him and subduing that notable charismatic personality. zoning out, a heavy sigh escaped him as he wiped down the surface of the bar with a cut of cloth, counting down the seconds until he could go back home or at least crack open a bottle of beer for himself.
fortunately ( or at least he hoped it was fortunate ) as he finally glanced up and around, he found a welcome distraction in the form of a familiar face, lashes fluttering in surprise during the brief moment of awkward eye contact. for a split second he was unsure if he should actually say something. it was highly likely that the guy might just want to drink in peace, but the nod of daxton’s head paired with the casually muttered greeting was enough to prompt taeil to move closer, draping the cloth he held across his shoulder before brushing strands of dyed red hair from his eyes.
“ i’m three seconds away from drinking directly from a tequila bottle, but other than that, everything’s peachy. ” shaking his head with a soft snort, taeil couldn’t help but laugh despite himself. “ what about you, man? waiting for someone, or just here to kill time? ”
( @taeilyj )
TWENTY past eleven and despite the three beers, Daxton’s mind was still as clear as crystal (or well, he was slightly tipsy but in full control of his actions). He’d hoped for this solo outing to serve as a distraction from all the monotony in his life. There were times when his mind slipped into his overdrive mode, popping what-ifs and maybes with where he could’ve been or done if he’d conformed to his family’s expectations and this was one such evening. He didn’t really need company per say, just some alcohol and food (plus a considerably lighter wallet) to wash away these sudden wave of emotions.
So having to bump into a familiar face wasn’t something he’d hoped for but it did dawn upon him that the older worked here and his own choice of a self hangout spot was probably in futile. It was too late to back away now, he’d made eye contact after all and forced to acknowledge Taeil with a slight nod of his head and a faint smile before throwing back the contents of his bottle in his throat and he straightens his spine. He knew the older to be far more outgoing than himself and perhaps his own need to get buzzed before having to head back was greater than wanting to avoid conversations. “Hey, you a’ight?” He mutters, hearing his own voice crack from the lack of use and as the aftermath of the coldness of his beer.

yjseoks:
with that, the two of them were off to find supplies to appease their late night desire for adventure without leaving the confines of the sharehouse. jonas took off to his own apartment first, acutely aware of all the blankets and pillows that resided there. due to the late hour, caution colored his steps; the last thing he wanted to do was awake someone from their slumber. — after jonas retrieved what he needed, he was just as cautious with his movements when he left.
sudden fatigue colored his footsteps as he made his way back to meet taeil in the theatre room — a fatigue he was determined to shake the second he felt it slip into his system. a long drawn out yawn contorted his features for a moment that stopped him in his tracks. he’d need to get some coffee or another caffeinated substance; he didn’t want to leave taeil alone in this endeavor of fortress construction.
once he reached it with pillows and blankets in hand, he stopped at the doorway to the theatre room and searched all around him for the other. when his gaze met the other, a grin formed. “ i didn’t get the most, but at least it’s something. i’m going to need some coffee, though. do you want some? ”
taeil wasted no time in rushing off to collect the oh so important components for ( what would undoubtedly be ) the best blanket fort this sharehouse had ever seen. it was like a new wave of energy had washed over him, footsteps light yet hurried as he made his way back towards the dorm rooms. it was only as he got closer to the rooms did he bother to slow down, managing to stay mindful enough to not make too much noise.
a couple of blankets from his own bed, an armful of pillows, and some cushions stolen from the shared living spaces of the sharehouse had been his prize. if he’d woken anyone up they hadn’t bothered to yell for him to shut up, so he considered the operation a great success as he waddled his way back to the theatre room, blankets draped over his head and trailing behind him like an oversized cape. not too long after, jonas returned as well, just as taeil had begun pulling chairs together in a messy attempt to build some sort of base for construction.
“ oh! ”
coffee, coffee... the longer he thought about it, the more his brain yelled for the caffeine that was offered. laughing a little, he shrugged the blanket-cape to the floor and nodded his head.
“ not to be dramatic or anything, but please, i’d owe you my life. ”
