Let’s talk about the scene where Simon tries to convince Renton to join in his sauna scheme. Our boi is peddling nostalgia like C.M.O.T. Dibbler hawking sausages inna bun on a public performance day in Ankh-Morpork haha

Anyway, I know many people like the “your blood runs in my veins” line, which is on its own a new level of penetration metaphor, as someone once said. But mine is different.

My favorite moment is when Simon reminisces about Sharron from Granton. Let’s break it down into three beats, each one more cursed than the last.

One

Apparently, a girl they both slept with. As if that wasn’t already juicy on its own.

Two

The dialogue goes as follows:

Simon: Your very first sexual encounter.

Renton: Right.

Simon: Mine too.

Renton: Okay.

And even that’s not my favorite part, though the fact that these assholes lost their virginity to the same chick? This is juicy squared lol

Three

But here’s the real winner. How Simon introduces her:

“Tall. Well, taller than us anyway, at the time.”

TALLER THAN US.

Okay, so they are the same height; this is a fact. Do you happen to have friends who are the same height as you? I do. I never refer to this height as some kind of our shared height. Am I weird? Tell me if this is something people do. I mean, I can see why tweens would do that or something, but this isn't the case here.

So what is the case? The way I see it, your identity has to be pretty deeply tied up with the other person, to the point of sharing exactly one brain cell, to word it like that.

And yes, we know Simon is working Renton in this scene, trying to make him feel all fuzzy and warm and nostalgic… and yet… it just feels unscripted (I mean it wasn't in Simon's script, not the movie screenplay ofc). Like, even after all these years apart, he never really unmeshed his identity from Renton’s. Bonus points for Renton being absolutely unfazed.

So yeah. This is why I’m so feral for #sickrent
