Ok it's 5 am and I can't sleep so here's a mini revelator rant but what annoyed me the most about the episode is how we get 4 different themes / plot points in one episode and none of them are truly exploited like they could have been

We start off with the miraculers team and their training. It's not relevant to this episode at all. Shouldn't it have been in the first one? Since when does Chat Noir know their identities? I wanted to see more of that. I love seeing hero training and lesrning their powers, it leads to great character and relationship development.

Then we to Adrien's fame, first as a model and then as the son the "hero Gabriel". It is relevant because Revelator happens, but it feels like it could have been an entire episode about it. Or even several honestly. It feels like Adrien is only famous when it's plot relevant

We get the Alya stuff, which I think is the best exploited here. Alya learned the truth, and now Marinette knows how bad she fucked up. Fine we'll see how it plays out at the end of s6. Probably

And then Chat Noir getting a power upgrade. From... Nowhere? Is it implied he got it from the training? Is that what it was? Feels underwhelming

It doesn't feel like Chat Noir grew / deserved it (in this episode specifically) since the episode was not focused on him / Adrien. It truly feels like it comes out of nowhere just for the Alya and Marinette bit

Anyway I think all of these could have been entire episodes on their own and now that this it out of my brain I hope I can go back to sleep

I think Gaz would enjoy a good hike with his partner. Especially when the seasons are changing. Take him on a walk in the snowy woods, hold his bicep as you walk and talk the afternoon away. Like just imagine making a snowman with gaz while in the wood and it turns into a mini snowball fight.

Mini rant/rambling that was going through my mind earlier. Spoilers for s2p2 under the cut so yeah

If I'm being honest, I do not blame the ninja for not looking for Jay sooner. I know I've seen some people (not as much recently) say that the ninja should have been looking for Jay sooner and kinda implying that it's their fault he got manipulated by Ras. And like... the ninja had no idea that Jay had amnesia. How were they supposed to know that? They probably assumed that Jay was off dealing with his own little adventures just like all the other ninja were doing during the merge (Minus Zane I guess but still)

So for example, Kai was out trying to map out the merged realms, Nya was in the Realm of Madness helping out the Craglings, Cole was living with and protecting the finders in the Land of the Lost Things. I feel like it's a fair assumption for the ninja to make that Jay was probably fine on his own because he is a competent ninja who has helped save the world numerous times because that's kinda what they all had been doing after the merge.

So yeah, I can definitely see the characters themselves feeling guilty for not looking for Jay, but in reality it isn't their fault. They had no idea Jay had lost his memories so they didn't realize that they needed to look for him.

And side note but I really hope we get to learn more about how Ras actually found Jay and manipulated him since we didn't actually see any of that. Like, did Ras already know that Jay had amnesia or did he just get lucky? Also how would he have known that Jay had amnesia? Did he quite literally just stumble onto him, realize he had amnesia and decided "Ok, I'm gonna manipulate him onto my side now." Seriously, I need to know more about that. Although part of me feels we won't get to see any of that. But then again, Dragons Rising has surprised me before so we'll just have to wait and see.

Eat’s OK was the second song of Yesung’s new album, Pink Magic, and also the music playing on the speaker, filling Yesung's room with the soft melodies and velvety voice of the singer. Nara listened intently to the lyrics, bobbing her head to the rhythm of the light beats. It wasn't the title song of the album and it certainly wouldn't be her favorite to listen to while at a party... but it had a special meaning. 

More than just a song about relationships, which was what she was used to hear from ballad singers, this song was about problems with self-esteem and dieting. Their gazes met. 

“I wondered what you'd say to me, so I'd eat... You've helped me so many times that I wanted to do something to honor that, something that had a meaning,” he admitted, a slight smile at the corner of his lips. 

The song was about him. About the times he had been on such a restrictive diet that he would go days without eating and how those thoughts were so ingrained in his mind that he couldn't shake the idea that if he put on even a few grams of weight, he would be a failure — he would be doomed to failure and all the suffering he had gone through to become a k-idol would have been in vain.

It was a thank you to Nara for all the times she helped him through the lowest points of his eating disorder.

She could still feel the texture of his hair between her fingers as she stroked it that afternoon in 2017, one of the times she had been called by Jongjin so that she could comfort Yesung. 

While fans were enjoying the release of Spring Fallen, his second mini-album, Yesung was going through one of his worst breakdowns and had just returned from the hospital. After taking an IV, the doctor asked him not to train that day and to rest as much as possible. So when Nara got to his room, she found him lying face down against the wall, the covers draped over his entire body as he breathed heavily, without even closing his eyes. It was an internal battle. 

Nara crawled into the covers and hugged him from behind, her hand going to his hair so that she could give him a motherly cuddle — which she had learned all the boys in the group missed. Within a few strokes, Yesung began to cry, but Nara didn't stop hugging him, and the more he cried and tried to cling to Nara's arm around him, the harder she squeezed him.

Everything was going to be fine. 

Nara had also gone days without eating, had her own eating disorder crisis and fainted in the middle of training. Almost all the idols had experienced this, but Yesung felt it a thousand times worse, even for those who knew the entertainment industry. Also, when he was promoting an album, the diet got worse and the feeling became almost unbearable. 

She felt him stir a little and didn't know what she should do, but she loosened her embrace to make room. Yesung didn't know if he could face her, not at that moment. He was too vulnerable, but his body involuntarily turned to face her. Their gazes met for a moment, and she ran her hand over his cheeks, tracing the shape of his face. 

Where did his cheeks go? He was too skinny. She was worried, his skin tone paler than white. When was the last time he took an anemia test, and it did not come back lower than indicated? 

“We'll stay in our own little world, just for a few minutes, okay?” Nara said and again wrapped her arms around him, this time from the front. Even without a sound, she could still feel his tears falling down the curve of her neck. 

In those minutes, while Yesung cried all he could, they were in their own little world; there were no crazy fans, no dispatch, no haters and no scales. Just the two of them. Yesung sometimes wondered if he still liked singing. It was his favorite thing in life, of course, but if doing it (and every time he did it) meant going through that feeling... was it really worth it? 

As if reading his mind, Nara whispered, “I'm here, always. If you need to take time off, you can, and I'm not going anywhere”. 

Yesung sank his nose deeper into the curve of her neck, feeling her scent piercing his lungs. He pressed her body against his in a hug, as tight as he could. She was his best friend, the only person besides his family who could see him in such vulnerability.

Back to 2019, as they listened to music from his newest album, Nara gave a mischievous smile. "And what do you think about eating the set you mentioned in the song?" She suggested, already thinking about the burger with fries and a drink that they could order for delivery.

Yesung laughed awkwardly, shaking his head, "I can't, I'm promoting the album and..." before he could finish speaking, he was interrupted by a slap on his arm.

"I knew it!" Nara exclaimed. She knew that even though this time the situation wasn't as critical as the other times, and he had sought medical help, he still wasn't completely carefree as he was referred to in the song. She held his face with both hands and said, "You're one of the most beautiful people I know," knowing that he would understand the compliment as a way of saying that he didn't need to starve himself to be beautiful. 

No matter what, he would be beautiful.

They remained in that position for a few seconds before Nara gave a mischievous smile. She lowered her hands and joked, "But apparently I'm not pretty enough for you, or you would have asked me to participate in the Pink Magic MV." 

"But you're on hiatus." Yesung knew that it was just a joke, a provocation, but he still tried to defend himself from that grotesque lie. For him, she didn't even fit into the category of ‘beautiful women’. She was much more than that: She was wonderful, and could occupy a category of her own, just with herself, in Yesung's ranking of the best people.

"But it was your music video!" she tried to explain. "You called Kyuhyun and Donghae! Why not me?"

Yesung let out a laugh. "Jealous?" he asked, this time giving a mischievous smile. He couldn't tell if the jealousy he was referring to in the question was due to his fictitious preference for his fellow crew members or her desire to play his romantic partner in the MV.

"Of course not..." she said, rolling her eyes, "but Leeteuk showed me a hilarious comment about how you have a different girl every MV, and you're still single, that it's time to get married", she laughed out loud, knowing that comment always got the boys mad.

Before Yesung could respond, they heard the door to the living room open. They assumed it was his mother, who had gone to the supermarket to buy dinner — after having invited Nara to eat with them that night and, of course, she would never refuse to have food cooked for her.

Nara stood up quickly and said "I'll ask your mother if she agrees", before opening the door to leave the room.

Yesung stood up in fright, running after Nara to stop her from embarrassing him like that. The mothers adored her and loved that she behaved like a daughter to them, always coming around to gossip. Well, they knew each other for more than 14 years now, she was basically part of the family.

“Where am I?” JD says quietly as he sways from side to side. He bumped his head on the commentary table during his match a few minutes ago and he hasn't felt right since. His vision is blurry, his head feels like it's on fire and there's a giant bruise on his forehead. He asked Finn to help take him to medical but the older man just sneered at him and told him to walk there himself. So now here he is, touching the walls as a way of navigation cause he can't see for shit.

“I think I'm almost there” JD says drowsily, as he continues feeling the walls while walking around the arena. He lets out a yelp as he trips on a camera cable and falls to the ground. “Fuck” JD says with a groan as he crawls helplessly on the floor. He hears two pairs of footsteps coming his way so he goes into a fetal position and covers his head assuming the worst. “Are you ok JD?” A voice asks worryingly. 

“We saw your match and that bump didn't look good bud” a second voice says with a concerned tone. JD looks up and sees flashes of blue and yellow which he automatically recognizes as his husbands, Seth and Drew. “Oh, I just hit my head on the commentary table! No big deal!” He says with a slurred tone. “I think you need some medical help” Seth offers as he gently grabs JD's left arm. “We'll help take you there” Drew offers as well as he grabs JD's other arm.

They help him up off the floor with JD struggling to stay standing. “Thanks guys but I can walk there myself” JD says as he sways from left to right. Seth and Drew look at each other with concerned looks. “Babe, you can barely stand” Seth says, concerned. “You also sound like you had a few pints at the bar” Drew points out. “I told you two I'm…” JD doesn't finish before he collapses on the floor unconscious. The last thing he hears is both men yelling his name. 

The next time JD comes to, he feels something warm and fuzzy against his face. He feels someone gently scratching his scalp. He moves around a bit to get comfortable and he hears a quiet giggle above him. He opens his eyes and sees his vision is back to normal but also realizes he's laying on Seth's chest. “Good morning teacup” Seth says sweetly as he leans down and kisses JD. “Is it really morning?” JD asks curiously with a blush. “No, you passed out for thirty minutes and we took you to medical during that” Seth explains as he sits up and puts JD in his lap.

The door opens and Drew walks in with a pill bottle, a mini cooler and a handheld mirror. “Looks like our teacup is awake! How you feeling love?” Drew asks as he walks over to the two men and gives JD a kiss as well. “Like my head is on fire and I think I have a bruise on my head” JD explains as he reaches for his forehead but gets his hand gently slapped by Seth. “It's best not to touch it hon” Seth warns him nicely. “Why not? It's just a bruise right?” JD asks curiously. 

“Best to see it for yourself love” Drew says carefully as he hands JD the mirror. JD looks into the mirror and his eyes widen. What he thought was just a bruise was actually a giant purple goose egg on the side of his forehead. “Oh my god” JD says in a panicked tone as he starts shaking. “Don't panic teacup! It's just a bump!” Drew says as he holds JD's hands. Seth wraps his arms around JD's waist as a way to calm him down. “It's ok sweetheart, it's ok” Seth says quietly in JD's ear. 

It takes JD a few minutes to stop shaking and calm down. “Are you feeling better now teacup?” Seth asks kindly, JD nodding in response. “Can we take care of you now?” Drew asks, JD nodding to that as well. They both give him a kiss on the cheek as Drew pulls out an ice pack from the cooler. “The ice pack will help with the swelling and probably help with your headache” Drew explains as he gently presses the ice pack to JD's forehead. 

“Drew, you can't hold that ice pack forever! That's why I came prepared!” Seth says happily as he pulls out a seafoam green cloth headband from his pocket. “You remembered my favorite color?” JD asks curiously as Seth puts the headband on his head, holding the ice pack in place. “It's the same color as your collar isn't it?” Drew asks with a laugh. “You think we didn't know what your favorite color was?” Seth asks a bit sadly. 

“Well, we usually never hang out at work cause we do our own thing and we only hang out at home when Daddy is around” JD says truthfully, which shocks both men. “Oh my god, we're awful husbands” Drew says with his head in his hands. “Yeah we're definitely changing that because you are not staying by yourself anymore” Seth says a bit too loudly which hurts JD's head. “Can you quiet down a bit? My head still hurts like hell” JD says with a whimper. “Oops, sorry teacup!” Seth whispers as Drew pulls out a water bottle from the cooler.

“These will definitely help with the headache” Drew offers as he takes two pills from the bottle. “Are your hands clean? Cause I've seen you scratch your crotch when you wear your kilt” JD says which causes Seth to laugh and Drew to blush. “That was one time!” Drew argues back with the blush running down his neck. “It's all the time Drew but I forgive you!” JD says with a laugh as he takes the pills from Drew's hand, swallows the pills with the water and gives Drew a kiss on the cheek. 

“Jesus christ you're adorable” Drew says affectionately. “I know! Anyways, how did yall know I got injured tonight?” JD asks curiously. “Daddy saw what happened on TV and called us the moment your match ended because he was worried about you” Seth explains as he traces stars on JD's arm. “He thought that Finn would attack you or something… he didn't, did he?” Drew asks worryingly. “No, opposite really! He told me to go to medical myself after I asked if he could take me” JD answers, causing both men to growl. 

“He didn't help you at all? “Already on it” Drew says as he locks the door and turns off the light. He walks back over and lays next to Seth on the couch. JD gets himself comfortable on Seth's chest as Drew wraps his arm around the two of them. They both watch as JD falls asleep and his breathing evens out. “He looks so small next to us, now I know why Daddy calls him Clover” Drew says with a quiet laugh. “He is the resident baby out of all of us which means he needs the most protecting” Seth says as he tucks some hair behind JD's ear. 

“So we both agree that we're gonna watch him more at work and absolutely fucking murder Finn next time we see him?” Drew asks curiously. “Oh absolutely! That tiny little gremlin ain't hurting teacup anymore” Seth says confidently. “God, I love you” Drew says with a smile. “Love you too you big lug now go to sleep” Seth says quietly as he kisses Drew deeply and closes his eyes. Drew closes his eyes as well as both men wrap their arms protectively around JD. The two biggest and bravest flowers will protect their clover from the rain.

ok, a history if NYC gangs...that's pretty cool. i always like how Marvel has stories that interweave the fantastical with the actual history n ways that do make sense. Magneto: Testament is honestly my favorite example. and this started off like it'd be similar...until we got to the puns ^^; "The Street Sorcerers Supreme" really? "The Shockers"?? this isn't going to be historical fiction is it? still, vampires, simulacrums, and steam punk magic turf war? that could be fun....right??

so many decapitaions...so this is a love story then? lol

ok, probably *shouldn't* be paying attention to the details, but the next Bugle page says it's September 30th. Victor has been slaughtering the silly-name-gangs for 3 months then. ok, that i can believe why is the guy he first killed's head STILL that intact ESPECAILLY when Fisk is using it as mulch? also they call him "The Gardener" now huh? does...that mean something? like he's a flower? Victor's weeding for him, so that connects. idk, i'm grasping i guess

Kurt Conner won't be alive for a lot of years. and yeah, it makes sense that the gangs would up the ante since Fisk got himself a mutant, so they'll want their own. but what??? though i am glad the characters are in agreeance with me, far too many times lately do the characters just accept the stupid.

anyways...the gangs meet at the Mandarin. someone was having fun with the references, even though nothing lines up timeline wise huh? ok, i guess i can roll with that

and the preview page uses the same "June 21st" news page, so maybe he wasn't murdering people for 3 months. anyways, this issue was....kinda boring. but, to be fair, it is establishing the setting and the stakes...but not so much the characters. this should kind be a character driven story, you know? though that does always seem to happen to sabretooth in his minis. like i pointed out, someone is having fun with the puns and the cameos, but at the same time that feels like this can't be canon to any timeline. oh well. at least there was a very large lack of Logan in this, which is REALLY nice.

eh, it could still go either way in the entertaining or just garbage scale. we'll have to see what the halfway point brings us next month i guess.

“Bo and his family went to look in the east wing of the school but that delivery boy friend of hers took Bai He to check the main classroom the children use during the day.” Shoumo explained. 

“Bo?” Macaque asked. 

“He’s our other best friend.” Bingjie happily explained. 

“Well, maybe they had better luck?” Sandy offered. 

“Doubtful. Only the older kids use the east wing of the school. Bo only went there because they saw MK and ran out of the room screaming…” Bingjie said. 

“Why would they run screaming from the room?” PB asked the little girl. 

Bingjie shrugged. “Beats me.”

“I think those two said something about “not wanting to get in a row” with MK,” The Priestess thoughtfully stroked her chin while doing an odd cockney accent. 

“Good impression, Auntie Lingli!” Bingjie grinned. “You sounded just like them.”

“Sounded just—oh no,” Wukong face-palmed. “Please tell me you don’t mean—”

“Monkey King!” Two very familiar voices cried out. “It’s your worst nightmare!”

“Jin,” the orange brother—dressed in a frumpy, plaid suit—introduced himself with a flourish. 

“Yin,” the blue brother—dressed in a similar frumpy suit but with chunky stripes—struck a pose. 

“The Gold and Silver Demons!” The superzeroes strummed their air guitars and bellowed loudly for the enjoyment of precisely nobody. “And we’re here to tell you—to pretty please just let Monkie Kid leave us alone for tonight!” Jin was on his knees in front of Wukong in an instant, stupid tears welling up in his eyes. 

“We’ve been on our best behavior, we promise! We just want to see our little Bo’s show tonight.” Yin was equally tearful with his pleas. “We’ll keep our noses clean, we swear.”

“Wait, wait, wait,” Wukong’s flabbers had been thoroughly gasted. “Your little Bo’s show?”

“Our nephew, Bo!” Jin explained. He and his brother pulled out wallets that looked old and probably stolen. A flick of their wrists and two separate but entirely full plastic accordions of pictures flopped out. Inside were a rather impressive amount of pictures of a young demon boy with light gray-purple skin, charcoal-gray hair with sunny yellow highlights, and some chunky, round glasses. 

The pictures were like a mini timeline of this boys life. Infancy, his first steps, early adolescence, a few science fairs, and the most recent one, which looked like it was a general school picture. If Wukong was being honest, the kid kind of looked like a weenie. But, the king could tell the boy was loved. 

“He looks like a sweet kid.” Macaque spoke carefully. “Since when did you two have a sibling, though?”

“Ok, smartie pants,” Yin scoffed a bit. “If you wanna bring semantics into this. He’s technically our second cousin once removed.”

“But we’ve known him his whole life and Uncle Jin and Uncle Yin roll off the tongue better.” Jin smiled proudly at the pictures in his wallet. He pulled one out and handed it to the shadow master.

And ATHENA ATHENA BADASS IN THE ARENA sweeping in and helping Telemachus not die!! Bonding!! I love the contrast between Antinous saying little wolf and Athena's little wolf. Antinous is taunting our boy but Athena is looking after the mini version of her bff!! It's perfect 10/10 no notes.

2. A canon or headcanon hill I will die on

Euh oh boy hmm I guess I have severals ones but I will say the fact that she really respected and had huge admiration for Gehrman. I really wanna know what happened in their goddamn life to have such a strong bond (whatever the interprets just platonically have a strong connection at least).

And I will add that I headcanon she could really do blood pyromancy for real if she really wanted to or loose control. And that's why she almost never did from her living, it terrifyed her.

3. Obscure headcanon  for Gehrman

Hmmmm... ok I got it thanks XD Well while hc about him being neurodivergent aren't unique, me projecting all my knowledge in geology into him is XD I imagined even with his very modest childhood he liked reading books, to discover and learn things about nature and the world around him.

Seeing a lil meteorite crash in the field and recovering it changed him as well! So yes besides being a strong fighter with good survival skills, having the ability to make weapons, know the materials' characteristics etc I like to imagine he did learn more on geology, geography, cartography, how to built mines and underground tunnels, and a bit of astronomy as well! Always useful on the field! He can easily recognize the 3 different irons ore as well! Everyone is confuse but it feel very easy to him to differentiate hematite from magnetite from siderite x)

1. Canon I outright reject for Brain. (we literally have another character/hero who literally have a red scarf lmao. This one is a goth with a fedora who really like data and informatics and screw up fate xD )

Fourt Wing Reactions Book 2 Update 6

Where I am: Page 614 of 719. Violet has just made the garrisons work but apparently something is missing. Xaden reads minds. Next chapters we'll talk to General Melgren.

What I think so far: I didn't like the book very much in general, but now this last part is becoming more interesting.

Positive points:

I'm enjoying learning more about magic and I liked the introduction of the rune thing! I like everything magical!

I like that we get to talk to Melgren, he and his giant dragon seem like super interesting characters. Imagine having the biggest dragon in the kingdom and the ability to see the future?! I mean, I'd read a book about him.

The action is starting to ramp up a bit more, which thank the gods, because this book is a bit fast-paced but at the same time very mini quests that don't really affect the plot that much!

I like the fact that we're redeeming Cat. Evil ex-girlfriend is such a lazy trope and honestly kinda sexist... just saying.

Dain is growing on me and I'm getting a bit on his side I think. I mean it wasn't really his fault. His dad asked him to see a memory of Violet and tell him which ok is horrible and intrusive and all that but then saying it was his fault that his dad tried (and in Liam's case succeeded) to kill them, I mean not really his fault.

Negative points:

Xaden reads minds... Okay, I thought it was a bit out of the blue, but okay, moving on

Xaden and Violet's relationship didn't convince me that much in this book. Maybe because they didn't spend much time together during the book??

Violet is beginning to be too special for me. She's the best rider, she's the best scriber even though she's not a scriber, she's the smartest, she's the most powerful, two ultra special dragons chose her, she's the best at runes, she's the best at magic, she's fast... like I get it, eye roll, is bordering on Mary Sue for me honestly.

Stars:⭐⭐(maybe 2.5)

Predictions: I have a feeling something is going to happen to her mum, I hope her mum finds out Brannon is alive. I feel sorry for her!

After friendly pushback about forgiving Dain: Nah, Dain's okay with me, he said he said goodbye to her because he finally realised that she was choosing Xaden over him and that their friendship was going to end and the book implies that this is the truth.

As for his father, meh, I think it was a bit like Xaden blaming himself for telling Violet, Violet blaming herself for trusting Dain and him reading her the memoirs, and Dain blaming himself for reading the memoirs and telling his father.

Basically, the only thing that separates Dain's guilt from Violet's guilt (they both check up on someone they shouldn't have) is that Dain has the extra step of reading someone's memories without prompting, which is horrible and quite intrusive. But neither of them knew what it meant. Like this chain from tell this to tell that was just the word "Abernathy" (it's not actually that word but I can’t remember the correct one... but it starts with A and has a y). Aetos dad was the only one in this chain who knew that this word meant that the marked ones were probably betraying the country because it was a border town and they didn't have authorisation to be there. Violet and Dain had little idea what secret they were guarding.

That's why I think he's to blame for reading memories without authorisation, but not for Liam's death (and that of the other girl).

After friendly pushback about Violet being a Mary Sue: Yes, Cat is the best at runes in the whole class, but Violet is the best at runes from Navarre.

Yes, it's true, she does have some major weaknesses like... She has to ask for help for some, and I emphasise some, of the multiple dead languages she can read.

It's just that even her supposed physical weakness kind of disappears in this book, like it's still mentioned sometimes that she needs to strap up her joints but she doesn't seem to have any other problems. She's beaten I don't know how many opponents without having to poison them.

Now in the first book, but even more so in the second, Violet doesn't need anyone, except from an emotional point of view. If everyone disappears, she can still do 90% of the story. She discovers everything, she has the most power. None of the others discover anything essential and the few times they're needed (like Aaric to open the files with royal blood or Jesinia to translate) they're always crutches because the whole plan was devised by Violet and they were called in by her and you get the feeling that if it wasn't for them it would be anyone else. I don't like it very much and once again it's an easy fix, just make her a bad scribe or a bad rider.

There was a moment of silence before both of the twins burst out laughing.

Low woke up, fastly sitting up right, her heart beating fast.

She was in a doctor/nurse's office.

Mona who was sitting in a chair near her immediately went to Low, hugging her.

"Low! You're awake! Never scare me like that again!" Mona said.

Low felt somewhat drained, she was also very confused

'what happened?' she thought.

Then it all flooded back, the arena , Gray , Bright-

"Bright! where is he?!" Low yelled out.

"he's in another room, he's in bad shape but he'll probably be ok" someone said in a soft voice.

Low looked behind Mona and saw a cyan hollow head standing near the door, Lumy.

"nice to see that you're awake" he said with a soft smile.

Low didn't understand, didn't she hold his lifeless body right before blacking out? How was he alive?

Low looked down trying to collect her thoughts, then she saw that her limbs were pretty much floating,she immediately yelled in terror, flinching heavily backwards.

"oh you noticed it." Lumy said "I don't know how it is possible but they act like normal limbs"

Low looked confused

"Low, I know that you have many questions but unfortunately they'll have to wait until morning, it is 1AM after all. " He continued.

"wow it's very late.." Mona said

"and you two, should be getting sleep." There was a familiar voice.

It was Der, a dark red hollowhead with mini horns , Bright's.. Ex-Best Friend, those two had a somewhat similar bond like Low had with Bright.

But that was in the past.

"we'll talk tomorrow." He continued.

"we'll leave you to rest." Lumy said as Der left the room.

Low saw Mona was already fast asleep, they were probably tired.

Low then let out a yawn, she also should be getting sleep.

Raom was trying his best to not break down sobbing, just recalling how Gray just fell to the ground as his body cracked, then when he finally got up, he wasn't himself anymore, Raom saw Gray's limbs as they've become similar to a puppet, "Gray" was now just a soulless puppet of what he was before.

"I'll leave you to it.." Nou said before leaving

Raom sighed, he recalled after the incident that the cameras of the arena caught dark, or well, his ghost.

And he couldn't forget the strings on gray's limbs that were controlled by that stupid spirit.

He should have noticed it, he should have saved Gray.

I got over 20 notes on a previous post (thanks @hijabi-desi-bookworm :D) so here's the Aru Shah one-shot for new years!

So, *clears throat dramatically * here we go!

Aru layed back on the school roof, looking at the sky. Next to her was an incredibly reluctant Mini.

"This is a good idea because?" Mini asked, hugging her knees.  She was right in the middle, and sat on a blanket she bought up.

"Because the view is incredible. Just look!" Aru turned around to Mini, who was hugging her knees very tightly to her chest.

"I guess," she began, "and the roof is flat so that minimises the chance we'll fall..."

"Exactly!" Aru agreed. Mini skooted forward to sit next to Aru properly.

"The earth is so cool," Mini muttered. Aru agreed. Ever since saving the world, she had a much bigger appreciation of it. It was crazy and hectic as ever,  but still managed to be beautiful.

The fireworks went off, sending sparks all over the sky.

"Happy New Year, sis." Mini told Aru, holding up her elbow for a bump.

"Happy New Year." Aru elbow bumped her back

"You guys ready?"

Brynne bolted down the stairs holding multiple bags of chips. "Yup! Who's got the Oreos?"

"Me, naturally," Boo said, holding the packet in his talons.

"Ok everyone," Mini called, waiting at front. "Please mind your arms and legs while entering the elephant."

"This is epic." Aiden said, looking down at his camera. "Do you think they'll have fireworks?"

"Probably," Aru replied, "but like, extra-magiky."

"Is that a word?"

"Probably not."

They entered the Night Bazaar to see the both sides of the sky-roof dotted in bright, colourful stars. They flickered and moved like fireworks and were even more beautiful. Aiden snapped a quick picture.

"Told you it would be extra-magiky." Aru smirked and tossed a chip into her mouth.

"You were right, Shah," Aiden agreed, "super magiky."

Aru smiled.

"Come on everyone, group photo!" Boo announced, pushing everyone into shot. "Say happy new year!"

"Happy New Year!" The potatoes chorused, grinning for the photo.

"...And that is New Year's in the human world" Aru finished. "It's an annual tradition."

Rudy thought for a moment. "So humans throw rockets in the air, set them on fire and blow them up because they look pretty? All to celebrate another year of existence? That's wild."

"Did you know that the word annual comes from the word annualis, which is Latin for year?" Kara added.

"Nope but that's cool?"

It was the first year that Hira, Nikita, Sheela, Rudy and Kara could all be there to celebrate, so Aru had decided to give them the rundown before they watched it in the human world. And that started with watching Australia's fireworks in the theatre, which were set off 16 hours earlier than the USA's.

They all filed in, holding hot cocoa and sat in a 2 rows: Niki, Sheela, Rudy and Mini at the front; Brynne, Hira, Aru, Kara and Aiden in the back.

When the live feed began, Rudy practically leaped out his seat.

"It's so loud! Who made it that loud!" He said over and over. Mini tried to comfort him while her sisters cackled.

Kara watched quietly, before turning to Aru.

"Happy New Year." She said, beaming.

"Happy New Year right back." Aru replied, but Kara had already turned to Aiden to say the same.

Aru looked back at the screen, stirring the cocoa slowly as the lights covered the digital sky.

"Why didn't we just go back to your school's roof?" Mini complained.

"Because Home Depot's roof is bigger!" Aru answered, grinning.

"Hold up," Aiden said, "you've done this before!?"

"Yup!" Aru reached up kissed him on the cheek. He blushed bright red and held up his camera to try and cover his face.

They laid out all of the blankets, put Rudy in the middle so he wouldn't fall off the roof when he freaked out over the noise, and brought up all the snacks they could carry.

"This is great! Look at the views!" Brynne commented, as she grabbed a handful of her homemade cookies.

All of them got settled. Aru rested her head on Aiden's shoulder as colour exploded over the sky.

"I guess fireworks are another good reason to save the world." She whispered.

"I guess so, Shah. Happy New Year."

"Happy New Year wifey."

And under the New year's sky, she drifted off to sleep.

Danai said they would deliver the promise of the premise and the show is called The Ones Who Live so I choose to roll with that. There is all this fire symbolism in the key art and marketing materials. There's Nats Burn v. Build and Rick's Burn to make room for New and Okafor's I Killed My Wife, BUT I think Rick will separate from Michonne again, have to kill Pearl along with the rest of the top brass and destroy the Cascades base he helped build (probably with explosives/fire) so he can rebuild it and the CRM with his people. I don't know if we'll get him reuniting with the family this season, but I do think there will be a season 2.

I trust Danai. And I did see an interview where Andy said there could very well be a "dot dot dot" to Rick's story (don't remember which outlet but Danai was wearing a sparkling burgundy oversized jacket and her hair was in what I call a "top tail"). I think if he's an EP and the story is good, he's fine with playing Rick Grimes. And he would want to end the story right. If that means his eventual death, OK. But I don't think that'll be TOWL s1ep6.

And Michonne's not dying. Not on Danai's watch. Unless it's safe in her bed with her grown kids and their father/her husband surrounding her.

I did think of the long term affects of the chlorine gas. And the possibility of developing some kind of cancer from that. Which would be interesting to explore. I don't know if they'd go there, but if they did, it wouldn't be this season. And that's a death I would be on board with. It would make sense.

But this season? The premise is they are the ones who live. Together, they can do anything. She came through hell to bring him home. He will burn the CRM and rebuild it. There will be a surprise or two because it can be a straight line. And this is TWD. They have to make us sweat and doubt the premise. This iteration of the show so far has done that better than TWD proper IMO.

As far as I know, TOWL is a mini/limited series. It's been marketed that way, and explicitly stated as such by cast and crew which means this season is the only season. Best to think of in that way, honesty. I don't really agree with any speculation of a second season because there most likely won't be one and the series wasn't made with one in mind. Also, I don't really agree there's a version of this story that ends with rick reforming the CRM when the whole point of ep4 was establishing that his desire to do that was his trauma brain talking. Not to mention, there is no "reforming" a fascist para military eugenics state, which was basically the crux of michonne's argument in ep4 too. But I do agree the show will make us sweat and that it's at least as good if not better at doing this than the original in huge part because TOWL is limited and finite. Unlike the original series, we can't sit back and think, "oh well they have heaps of time to figure this" because they don't! Which is why everything is heightened, including the stakes! which is why there's no way to rule out anything as a possible ending <3

Season 2 Ramble#6 - Just Jump In! ver.2

first some bare bones Jump basics:

What is JUMP? - JUMP is a magazine line with hella content for hella demographics and for the record they're not all comics, shueisha is actually a pretty diverse publishing company

Today though, we'll only be looking at two of their products. the Weekly Shonen Jump(WSJ) magazine, in print since 1968 with a main target audience of young boys, shonen literally being japanese for young boy, as well as their SHONEN JUMP+ app, which first launched in 2014 and has a main target audience of older adolescent lads.. The original + app is in Japanese as far as I understand but they released a follow up in 2019 simply called MANGA+.. also even though they have "main" target audiences they both have works that try to appeal to wider demographics + things sometimes move between lines or even appear on both at the same time.

This month I purposefully read manga from different time periods which gave rise to one mini section and three main sections which i’ll describe as I get to them

Magu chan: god of destruction(Kei Kamiki, 2020, 78 chapters)

this story follows the main heroine ruru after she finds and accidently unseals the now weakened god of destruction mag MENUek. not the best art or really the deepest characters but it's a gag manga. actually didn't think I'd enjoy this at all but it's pretty funny, got a lot of genuine hearty laughs pretty much every chapter... (pretty decent run at 78 chapters but after I finished I couldn't believe it got axed, definitely would've liked more but ironically it probably got axed because of folks like me...)

Way Way Back (1960s - 1980s):

Mazinger Z (Gou Nagai,1972, 33 chapters)[Devilman Crybaby]

The story here is our mc, KOUji KAbuto, has a genius grandad who built the most powerful robot ever, Mazinger Z, but he dies in a sudden devastating earthquake before he can teach him how to use it. The only thing he's able to tell him before he passes is that with the robot comes power and with that power comes a choice, to be a god that saves humanity or a devil that destroys the earth.

Right off the bat the art wasn’t anything great or even particularly good but with really old stuff, especially things aimed at children, I think simpler art styles are to be expected. I did really like the robot designs tho, nothing too slick or fancy but they had an old quaint vibe like awww look at what grandpa drew…

The characters weren’t much either, as I said stupid simple story, giant robots doing cool giant robot stuff, so most of what would be the story of most characters was already in their designs like you see the main character and know they're the main character because he has that cool spiky cyborg 009 hairstyle etc.

not much more to say, kinda funny, surprisingly bloody given my perception of the time period and what I thought their perception of media was, especially media intended for kids.. but yh,, the whole manga can be summed up with giant robots have always been pretty cool… grain of salt though for those who plan to check it out, yes I thought it an enjoyable read but it was really only my top 1 because I could pretty much only find two things to read from this time period as the older manga are almost impossible to find on the internet.

Wasn't That Just The Other Day? (1990s - 2010s):

Bakuman(Oh! Great, 2008, 176 chapters)

Actually not my first time trying this, started back in hs but stopped for reasons I can't recall, I only remember thinking it was excellent which makes it all the more confusing but in any case I started over from the jump and I'm really glad I did.

This is a manga about making manga. I'm telling you man these Japanese dudes will make a manga about anything. trust.. Anyways the story here follows two main characters Mashiro and Takagi, and starts with them about to enter highschool. Takagi is the smartest in school since day one, expected to excel in life, and Mashiro has nothing. no goals or ambitions. he's just trying to come to terms with the mundane normalcy of life and society's expectations of what that should looks like. one day Mashiro leaves a book at school and Takagi, who unbeknownst to anyone is an aspiring writer, finds it full of amazing art and begs him to team up and make manga… Will they make it? and what exactly does it take to make it anyways? what even is "it"? (find out next time on read the manga and see!!)

Two things initially pulled me all those years ago, one, was a morbid curiosity, like I just couldn't fathom a manga about making manga being good in an entertaining way. like yh it's probably mad educational and it was, but as much as you can learn from any media the main reason I'm reading manga is to be entertained. two, oh! great did death note and again I just couldn't fathom the jump from mystery thriller about police vs death gods to this but man did they pull it off in style

First thing first the art was phenomenal as those familiar with oh! great works would expect. and I have to be clear, when I say oh! great does great art I mean Takeshi Obata does great art. oh! great is a duo between him and Tsugumi Ooba who did an equally good job on the story. like he basically showed us how the proverbial sausage is made without making us disinterested in the sausage. It actually instilled such a deeper appreciation for the process that I feel like all manga I read after this will be that much more enriching. especially shonen as the different creators in story debate and create what they think the genre should look like.

Great cast of characters, funny, serious, rivals, people you hated, people you loved, great sub plots that had them all interacting in a nice dynamic way, like it didn't feel like the two mcs were the cause and effect of everything. Great pacing as well as we get to see their journey from just trying something in highschool to getting their foot in the door in later years and so on. didn't feel rushed or dragged, it was nice to see a lot of the little ups and downs of life instead of just a cycle between highlights and rock bottoms.

I have to give fair warning and say it's pretty text heavy. even for something that's not kick and punch cause most of the time they're plotting out some manga or something but Obata really does a great job here making good use of panels and even speech bubble placement so it never really feels crowded unless it's meant to illustrate something like an argument or so. it also helped that despite his usual pretty realistic art style, he allowed characters to be toony when needed to lighten the mood or heighten some expression in just the right way

Honestly it's still so crazy that they pulled it off and pulled it off so well. I think ultimately it was the humanity of it that really tied everything together,, like yh they're manga artist but they're human first, and it's their human experiences that in the end feed into the art.

Talked a lot on this one.. that's why it was top 1 ig.. as usual I don't think I can speak enough to why exactly it's so great but yh… definitely highly recommend even if only out of morbid curiosity like you're thinking,, no way a manga about making manga is good. it is.

Astra Lost in Space (Kenta Shinohara on story & art, 2016, 53 chapters)

9 kids are brought to a nearby planet for a routine unsupervised camping trip as part of their highschool graduation. The future is wild. As plot convenience would have it, something goes wrong and they end up stranded in space. A rough enough situation on its own, but to make matters worse, the group finds signs that what happened was no accident and that the perpetrator is still among them..

Honestly a simple setup and premise, literally Lost but in space… not that I've actually watched lost but yh. anyways for as simple as the plot is the entire story wrapped up in 53 chapters anyways and they honestly squeezed every drop out of it that they could. What really stood out to me was how balanced it all felt.

As in the premise of being intentionally stranded is by no means unique but I feel like a lot of the media I've consumed around that tend to lean into one aspect more than others, like it becomes mostly about the mystery trying to find "whodunnit", or the focus becomes the sense of adventure, exploring the unknown and all that oor,, how it goes more commonly, in my experience at least, is a portrayal of the harshness of survival in the physical or mental sense.

I don't think there's anything wrong with that btw, the premise of being lost is used in many genres and it's up to the author to decide how much they want to lean into any genre. for example drifting net cafe, suicide island and dragon head are some lost horror type beats I've read, enjoyed and would definitely recommend.

In any case as I was saying about Astra lost in space, cause that's what I should be talking about here… is I loved how balanced it all was. Yes they're stranded and have to survive but it's not so overbearing that we can't take in the adventure of the unknown and yes we're seeing all these cool sights and different hypothetical evolutionary paths in space but also let's all be aware that one of us is probably plotting a murder yk? what tied this all up were the characters themselves like they felt really natural, yh a lot was going on but they're still just kids and they were sent out for a camping trip in the first place so come hell or high water they were gonna have some amount of fun or die trying. not that everyone was always on the same page and they didn't have disagreements and drama and so on but their individual quirks and character traits converged and diverged masterfully for a beautiful dynamic between the cast amongst themselves, and between the cast and their environment.

great cast and direction as I said, pretty standard art, nothing too crazy but it did what it needed to do, I also liked the little 4 panel bonus comics they did every now and then as well, all in all a pretty great read with some pretty neat twists I won't even allude to for fear of spoilers, especially for how short it was but yh, astra lost in space top 1 new read this month…

Psyren(Toshiaki lwashiro, 2007, 151 chapters)

people are going missing and a secret society called psyren seems to be responsible. won't go farther than that but will say it's held up as one of the best shonen works I've ever read since the first time I read it in like 9 or 10th grade. still in disbelief that it was canceled cause you can barely tell when you read it. it's only after I finished it and was looking into some things I realised.
