“...y’know, I think, uhm...I think girls are pretty great...”
Apath says the first step to making friends is finding common ground--does being hopelessly in love with women count as something to bond over? Could friendships, in fact, be forged over being Big Gay(tm)? Veles sure hopes so.

“...?”
She doesn’t know why Apath left her with their phone, and she knows she shouldn’t be nosy, but Veles still finds herself curiously ( albeit clumsily ) looking through all their apps. “...what’s, uh...what’s...” Squints. Fuck, she forgot she can’t read. “...uhm, excuse me, I, uhm, I don’t know how to use this...what’s this button supposed to be?” Veles can’t make any progress on her own, why not rope a stranger into aiding her snooping?
The button in question is for some music app or another, she just likes the pretty colors.

“Good day, ain’t it?”
Apath spares their walking companion a glance--only to give an annoyed huff when they notice Veles isn’t paying them a single lick of attention. Rolling their eyes they sway their hip to one side before abruptly knocking it against her arm, “oi, anybody home? Vel? Velbell?”
“Ow-hey!”

The taller’s fatal flaw was thinking Veles promptly veering away from them was just her walking away in a tiff. Oh, no, Apath. There was no warning, only the abrupt patter of bare feet sprinting over dirt before the woman jumped and slammed back against Apath’s side hip-first.
“Holy mother of dad--!!”
Goodbye, Apath. Hip bumped straight into a mud puddle.

“...” Oops.

“I, uhm...I--I like, uhm, like your hair.”
Professional conversation starter, she is. Absolutely spot on. Veles cringes if only slightly at her jittery tone and stilted words, briefly considering retreating back to her forest, possibly hiding for another few months before bothering to resurface. She will eventually get the hang of socializing.
...maybe.

@rebornregionace liked [this post] for a starter!

“Uh...it’s uhm, y’know...bit too cold to, uhm, to be out n’ about.” If she had to take a guess at why anyone would be starting to encroach on her claimed bit of territory, she’d say they were out training--the deeper one went into the forest, the tougher the Pokémon. It wasn’t something Veles minded. Most needed a good battle here and there to stay healthy, and facing off against strangers and their own teams helped keep them sharp enough to stay on top of their game in the wilds.
It was rare anyone sought her out for anything--save for gaggles of teens dared to go find ‘the witch’ as part of weird hazing rituals and the like ( groups she delighted in scaring the daylights out of for being rude ). Sometimes nice old folk tracked her down for advice or medicine. Either way, Veles had no regular guests save for her neighbor across the way, and seeing trainers make it this far into the forest was...well, it wasn’t a regular occurrence.
Veles would pause, if only for a moment, taking in a breath to continue, “I know it’s, uhm, it’s not true you can catch cold from, uhm, from being cold...but, uhm, it is damp enough for, uhm...for chilblains to be a concern. Have you set up camp for the day yet?”

@whxt-trial liked [this post] for a starter!

Veles still wasn’t entirely certain how her neighbor had convinced her to go on a trip to Alola with them--much less why she agreed to being left on her own so Apath could go visit with friends and family. But here she was, wandering down some path or another, ardently avoiding places too heavily populated by tourists and drinking in the unfamiliar sights, smells, and sounds.
She was happy just as she was. Going wherever her feet decided to take her, knowing Apath could find her when it was time to go back to their hotel room for the night--just until something...familiar caught her attention. Veles didn’t know what the vibe was, she hadn’t felt it since the last time she’d seen her mother. Still she followed it, quickening her pace ‘til she could hone in on what, or who, was causing it--and boy, did she.
There are times she’s reminded she’s a bit too gay to just be out and about. This is definitely one of those times, walking up on a complete and total stranger--she’s so pretty, she’s so pretty Veles feels like she’s gonna die.

2. what was the best thing in your character’s life?4. what seemingly insignificant memories stuck with your character?9 has been answered! :D

2 – Her parents presenting her with a Klink when she was old enough for her very first Pokémon ( no four year old is old enough but good luck telling her folks that ). Boss had been her one companion, her only friend, for a good chunk of her life ‘til she started befriending otherPokémon as well. Really he was all she had aside from her parents and their Pokémon for all of her early formative years. Without him she wouldn’t have gotten the socializing, the play, children absolutely need to be healthy.
…albeit, she really isn’t mentally or emotionally healthy at all, but she is a helluva lot better than she could’ve ended up without Boss by her side.
4 – The ones of her mother coming outside with her to sleep on nights Veles felt like she couldn’t stand being inside their cabin, especially as a little girl. As she got older, her mother stopped accompanying her, but she still remembers her mom cuddling up with her and teaching her about the stars til she dozed off. It strikes her as important that her mother let her go outside to sleep and seemed to understand how much Veles hates being boxed in anywhere.
Small, fleeting memories they were, sure. But proof enough that her mom, at least, completely and entirely understood her daughter. GG vila mom u couldve at least told ur vila daughter why she feels like she has to be outside so she could manage it.
2 – In some ways, it was that chance meeting with Giovanni, and ending up in Rocket. They never would have gotten out of the situation they were in otherwise, their home life would have only continued to fall apart and get worse. It was the first time in their life someone had shown positive interest in them, praised them and recognized their skills. Rocket allowed them to pursue their education, to chase after every thrill and discovery, so long as they maintained their loyalty and made sure their beloved Giovanni got his money.
In literally all of the other ways, it was meeting Abraham. It was getting close to him and being shown what genuine care is like, what healthy platonic love is like, what a semi-functional family is like. It was that first time, despite the shitty hospital-bound circumstances, they called him papa. Oof just thinking that far back tugs on my heartstrings but yes no the best thing to have ever happened to Apath was meeting Tea’s Arceus, and meeting Mirai is right behind that.
Rocket gave them confidence and purpose. Everything else smacked the shit out of them for being downright fucking evil and put them on the right path.
4 – Watching their grandfather do bead work, carrying on projects their grandmother left behind. Bringing him coffee or tea and just standing back to watch him work for hours and hours on end. Not too big of a thing in the grand scheme of things, no. But they saw the sort of unconditional love he had in his heart for his late wife, finishing her work for her, all of it–and it helped to remind them they did come from good people. Their mother is just… not included in that.

how many friends does your character have? how many friends does your character want?

– Not including Pokémon, she has a grand total of two, one of which being her girlfriend and the other being Apath. Including Pokémon, the nine that make up her and Apath’s teams, and the several dozen that populate her claimed little forest.
– Truth be told, Veles doesn’t really want any more than she has. She’s always lived off the grid, she has a difficult time processing a lot of the stimuli involved in socializing, she just doesn’t see it as worth all the trouble and potential panic attacks to go into town and start cozying up to people. Veles’ll be friends withPokémon all day long, no problem. People? Not so much.
– Considering their proclivity for latching themself onto people, Apath has a fair few. They’re the sort of person who has a lot of pleasant acquaintances, to be sure, though they’d likely only label two or three people as close / good friends.
– All of them. Apath wants all of the friends. They enjoy being in warm social spaces and spending time around people with good vibes and good energy. Realistically, though, Apath would probably be happier with just being able to bump another person up to close / good friend status instead of ending up with more sorta-kinda friends. Not so much more friends they desire but stronger and deeper bonds with the ones they already have.

– While Apath loves all things bitter and spicy, Veles is the exact opposite. Outside of instant coffee, she isn’t a huge fan of anything overly bitter, and she can barely handle a mild hot sauce ( never mind anything Apath tier spicy ). But she does have an absolutely massive sweet tooth she satisfies with fruit and the like–most candies don’t agree with her considering her mostly raw diet, though she does like indulging sometimes. Aside from simple sweets, she’s also pretty fond of salty/savory combinations.
…though her metabolism is absolutely ridiculous and she’ll eat anything put in front of her. Feed her. Give her all of the snacks. Veles burns calories faster than she can get them in some days and feeding her is the quickest way to get on her good side. It’s also a sign that you Made It™ if she willingly shares something she’s eating with you.
– Apath remains to be a Not Really That Good character in terms of moral alignment even after taking time to go off on their little self discovery journey. Another way in which these two muses differ. Veles, despite her upbringing and proclivity towards anxious paranoia about people, believes humanity is innately good and it is only circumstance that breeds evil. Apath, however, interprets the world around them much differently, in a “where would evil come from if not directly from the hearts of men?” kind of way.
Where their neighbor and Friendapist, their Friend Therapist™ may see goodness, Apath does not. They strive to do good things, they do slot in nicely with the chaotic good alignment nowadays, though without any rose tinted glasses. They’re still very much capable of committing acts of evil if they believe they’re doing the right thing.

– Veles is going to end up following Mina around like a lost duckling every time she’s in Alola just “??? familiar. good vibes. good aura. good friend, like this friend, love this friend”. Probably end up declaring herself Mina’s #1 fan at some point because she has no impulse control and would absolutely adore watching Mina hard at work painting or drawing etc.
She tries making up for being a nuisance by giving Mina fruit. Random fruits every time she shows up, sometimes a gift basket full of just fruit. Holiday gifts would include jams and preserves she’s made herself, homemade fruit leather candies, things of the like.

“Tell me another story. Please?”
Words whispered through the heaviness of lethargy, comfortable where she was bundled up in their arms with both heads tilted back and both sets of eyes trained on the stars above. Veles felt Apath’s arms tighten around her in response, drawing her closer to their chest as their chin rested atop her head, finding comfort in the hum that caught in the back of their throat.
“...alrigh’, I s’pose I can do tha’.” They knew it’d be the only way she would get any sleep, and Apath was glad to talk to her until she managed to doze off, their friend kept safe and snug in their lap. Apath took a while to think--they’d been out of practice with their story telling for so long, it almost felt uncomfortable to share them with Veles. But she was an attentive thing, she always strained to listen to everything they had to say, and they always relented and told her things no one else would bother listening to.
“Long, long ago...th’Earth was all water, no land in sight...” They began softly, not minding as she turned her head to lay it against their chest--knowing good and well the vibrations of their voice would help lull Veles to sleep, “all the animals lived in th’sky. They waited and waited for land to form, an’ they eventually sent a water beetle down...he began to bring mud up ta th’surface ta dry.” Apath’s gaze remained on the inky sky even as Veles’ eyes began to close, even as both their teams drew close and settled down.
“Still they waited as the beetle worked for th’land ta dry so they could come down, even soon sending Grandfather Buzzard down, too. He would flap his wings to help th’mud dry, and every flap formed mountains an’ valleys...soon, he helped th’Earth dry, so all th’animals could come down.” Their head tilted as the fire pit began to burn low, embers and logs crackling, sparks drifting into the chilly night air.
“Bu’ when they did, ev’rythang was dark, an’ there was no light. So, Grandfather was sent out again, an’ he brought back th’sun. Bu’ he brought it so close tha’ it burnt all th’animals, so they all pushed it away. Not far enou’, it was still so hot, an’ even ta’day th’crawfish is red b’cause th’sun burns him so.” One hand rubbed up and down Veles’ arm, listening closely for any sign she might be ready to doze off.
“So they all pushed an’ pushed, until it was so far ou’ they could have day an’ night...an’ Grandfather told them all they must sleep, fer seven days, an’ seven nights, while ev’rythang else was still bein’ created.” Apath nuzzled their cheek against the top of her head, even as Veles finally began to go slack in their hold, still yet watching the night sky themself. “Bu’ some plants an’ some animal stayed awake all those days an’ nights.”
They knew she was asleep--as were both their teams, but Apath continued. There wasn’t much left of the shortened version of the story, anyways.
“Cougar, owl, cedar, fir...some others, they all stayed awake. Tha’s why those animals can hunt all nigh’, and why those plants are green all year ‘round...they were awake durin’ tha’ sacred time, and they are sacred, too. All th’others who slept, tha’s why they hafta sleep when wint’a comes ‘round. S’why some trees die in th’cold months, they hafta sleep. S’why sometimes, in traditional families, comin’ of age means y’hafta fast fer seven days an’ seven nights.”
“...bu’ unlike them, you’ll be awake in th’mornin’.” Teasing words whispered to the sleeping woman in their arms as Apath got to their feet, holding Veles bridal style. May as well let her sleep in their bed, goodness knows she’d be up and at ‘em before the sun even came up, back off to her cave to do her own things.

When the hour had struck they’d pressed kisses upon each others’ cheeks like a pair of blushing virgins, though every moment since had spent spent in silence, gazing upon the moon in silent reverence. One saw their betrothed and husband-to-be, another saw her divine Mother, though neither had impeded on the other’s introspection.
Not until Apath scooted themself off the fallen fungi riddled log and knelt before their friend, steadfast between her knees as their hands closed around Veles’s waist. Silence was all that lingered between the pair. Even as pale hands came to cup the Alpha’s cheeks, even as a small smile quirked rosy lips into a small smile, even as mahogany hues fixated on the lesser deity.
“I’m glad I met you,” whispered in a delicate tone with duo-toned eyes crinkling in kindness, “I’unno where I’d be withou’ ya.” A confession that was only met with a widening of Veles’ own wry grin and her hands carding back through Apath’s well kept dreads, fingertips ghosting along their jawline after. “Probably off training with your dad or something boring.” Her voice didn’t waver with anxiety or paranoia, expression kind, gripping their chin betwixt her fingers.
Silence was all that followed even as the deity lifted themself back to their feet and took their seat again, pulling their friend into their lap as if they hadn’t just shown her reverence, eyes fixated on the night sky. There would never be anything more than a platonic love between the pair--but neither minded. Apath found in her a confidant and source of wisdom, and from them Veles found herself someone who needed her and wouldn’t abandon her.

“...y’know, bein’ th’next Arceus doesn’ seem so bad, no’ when there’s people like you in th’world I’m meant ta govern.” Apath’s admission was quiet and they refused to look at her, as if afraid of what they’d find. But Veles never spared them a single glance, having resumed her stargazing the second they took up their previous perch, her arms folded over theirs across her midsection. “And I don’t mind a Mother whose heart is full of boundless love.” Teasing as her words may be the fae still yet leaned her back against them.
Another year was upon them, but it wasn’t so scary.
Not when they both had one another to rely on.

“Asher, you stop that. You stop that right now.”
Never let it be said Veles has any resemblance of impulse control--she doesn’t, or she wouldn’t be in Hoenn instead of Sinnoh. It was a whim and a whim alone that’d sent her off on a brief vacation. By the looks of things, her Pokemon didn’t have very much going for them by means of self control, either. Out of every Pokemon on her team, of course it’d be the grumpiest one to have decided to go start loving on a stranger.
“...I, uh...don’t mind him, he’s, uhm...he’s uh...I don’t know what he’s doing.” The Umbreon rubbing his face against May would denote scenting behavior--in all reality, he’s just trying to make his trainer jealous. Pick him up and love him, Veles.
