Headcanons for Toby, Jeff, Nina and slendy with a reader that lovesss animals? (and is good with them) :D like every time they return from a mission, reader has brought back a puppy or kitty? (bonus points if once she accidentally brought a wolf in the house mistaking it for a dog)
Pastas with a s/o that's good with animals!
Toby, Jeff, Nina and Slenderman
Tumblr media
A/n: I LOVE ANIMALS! ALL ARE SUPER CUTE but sadly I'm not very good with them lolol I have a cat and a dog though they're my babyss hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
Slenderman
🐾 He does not get along well with animals, at all. He scares most them away just by standing there, problems of being a eldritch horror but once one warms up to him he actually is very gentle with them.
🐾 finds it cute and fascinating how well you can interact with the lil fellas, might even find a way to you to use them in missions. Not a fan of you bringing them to the mansion though, most pastas aren't a fan and may be allergic, and he does not enjoy when animals/wildlife are being mistreated so for everyone's sake, he'll ask you not to.
🐾 If you manage to convince him to have a pet, other than smile dog that is, he would like a cat, probably a black or tuxedo one, because it would be easier to hide the fur that will be all over his clothes
🐾 He's a tidy man, animals that make much mess are not his type, he also don't like the high maintenance ones (i.e hamsters) heck he barely takes care of his proxies, leaving most of them to survive on their own only giving the best ones a somewhat stable life. A high maintenance thing that's not even useful?? Hell no
🐾 Overall, he likes animals but he does not like to take care of them nor have them in his house, he doesn't need more little, bratty, short life-span beings to take care of, he already has the proxys
Tumblr media
Toby
🐾 Adores animals as long as they're far away from him, he's scared of most of them at first but find them cute
🐾 Have a strong cat allergy poor thing can't be near one without a mask or he'll start sneezing
🐾 Will help you take care of them despite his fear and allergies, mostly by being on your side handing you stuff but he'll hold the animal still if you need to apply a vaccine or something
🐾 Sometimes his tics will be saying an animal name, because he's spending so much time listening to you talk about them, you find it cute
🐾 He's besties with the mansion permanent pets and will let them stay in his room if needed
Tumblr media
Nina
🐾 BIG ANIMAL FAN, especially big ones
🐾 WILL pamper all the pets you bring home, to a point where you have to hide the treats from her otherwise she'll give them nonstop
🐾 Begs Slenderman to let you make a zoo with all the pets, he refuses of course but lets her keep a parrot
🐾 She named the parrot Willy, is a blue one and he's very talkative (much like his owner) surprisingly he can roam free and don't run away/get lost.
🐾Willy will attack on command, Nina did not teach him how to do that but one day she said to another proxy "I'll make willy take your eyes out!" And the birb was near and he just attacked going for the eyes. A moment of laughter and panic later, Willy was safe and the poor victim just had his eyelids slightly clawed, nothing major but Slenderman made Nina promise that she would never command willy to attack a proxy to a degree that can compromise their performance. So now she just makes him poop on people's foods and/or in them
Tumblr media
Jeff
🐾 He only likes dogs, not much of a fan of any other species, he will tolerate birds and most of the wild life thought
🐾 He's afraid of cats, whenever you bring one to the house he'll try to act cool but the slightest movement towards him will make him flinch
🐾 Will act uninterested when you bring a dog but the moment you turn your back he WILL gush over them specially if they get along with Smiley
🐾 Fights everyone who criticizes your actions, because "at least animals are better than humans" bedsides you do all the work to care for them and keep the mansion permanent pets safe if they don't get along with the strays
🐾 will complain if you spend more time with the pets than with him, and will throw a tantrum if you tell him to wait because you have to take care of the lil ones before giving him attention

alright, since some of you seem to agree with my thoughts, i think i'll elaborate a bit
sweeney todd's autism diagnosis
this might be a bit lengthy so ill spare you the scroll if youre not interested.
stiff movements (this isnt really a dancer's role)
lack of expression, tends to look either sad or angry most of the time. could just be the trauma tho
weird stilted way of speaking (hearn specific)
generally quiet and reserved outside of emotional outbursts (again, trauma)
strong sense of justice - "at the top of the hole sit the privileged few making mock of the vermin in the lower zoo"
entirely fixated on razors when reacquiring them, completely oblivious to mrs lovett talking about her massive crush on him
doesnt know what to do with his hands when not holding anything - "at last, my arm is complete again!"
[shaving contest /w pirelli and aftermath]
doesnt bother with any flash or flair, gets straight to work and gets the job done
becomes agitated and paces when expecting the beadle to arrive at his barber shop but doesnt know when (gotta have a schedule)
[epiphany]
if this isnt a textbook meltdown idk what is
mood swings (man goes through every stage of grief twice in the span of 3 minutes)
lashing out - "alright! you sir! how about a shave?"
mrs lovett trying to calm him down just upsets him even more
[a little priest]
doesnt understand what mrs lovett's hints at at first
asks what unfamiliar food is before trying it, as if hes hesitant to try new things
definitely an odd sense of humor
wordplay. so much wordplay.
more tactile stimming, this time with suspenders (hearn)
[god thats good]
upset because the package he was told would arrive by 5:45 is 15 minutes late (his SCHEDULE is RUINED)
once the chair arrives, becomes agitated when he cant get mrs lovett to stay and watch him open it (PLEASE let me share my interests!!!!)
once again calling for lovett's attention, this time to set up a system of communication. he just really wants to make sure she isnt missing his cues
[by the sea]
several minutes of sweeney being completely absorbed in his own thoughts while giving half-assed responses to at least pretend like he heard any of that nonsense
[wigmaker sequence]
time to infodump
possible echolalia? - "the madhouse? the madhouse!"
[finale]
upset that he now has to go find toby when hes expecting the judge to arrive soon (the schedule!)
doesnt seem to be aware of how threatening he sounds while calling for the kid
after killing the judge, suddenly remembers he was supposed to catch toby and runs out only to realize he didnt grab his razor (only has enough working memory for one task at a time)
im sure there are other details i missed, especially since everyone's performance is different, so feel free to add on

Okay so first of all: dire wolves cannot be de-extinctioned. They are a part of a genus that went extinct over 10,000 years ago alongside them, and none of the modern members of their subtribe are remotely close enough in relation to re-evolve them. This includes both grey wolves and jackals. Despite what some people may say, dire wolves are the same amount of related to both, which is not nearly close enough to be made from either. So this whole thing about trying to bring them back is nothing more than a publicity stunt for fans of George R.R. Martin's works and other similar fantasy series because it is literally impossible with what we have left of the evolutionary tree.
Secondly. WHAT'S EVEN THE FUCKING POINT OF BRINGING THEM BACK. THEY AREN'T DOGS SO THEY CAN'T BE TAMED AS PETS BECAUSE, GET THIS, DOMESTICATION IS NOT AS SIMPLE AS TRAINING AND TAKES A FUCK TON OF EVOLUTION AND TIME. AND THEY CAN'T BE RELEASED IN THE WILD EITHER. CAN YOU FUCKING IMAGINE? THEIR PREY IS ALL EXTINCT!! THEY'D JUST BE AN INVASIVE SPECIES LITERALLY EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD!! THE ONLY THING YOU COULD DO IS SLAP THEM IN ZOOS AND A) BRINGING A SPECIES BACK TO LIVE AS NOTHING MORE THAN AN ATTRACTION TO BE GAWKED AT IS CRUEL, AND B) THAT TAKES UP SPACES IN ZOOS FOR ACTUAL CONSERVATION WORK AGAINST EXTINCTION.
Thirdly. Why are they putting so much effort into de-extincting animals from the tail end of the ice age instead of, I don't know, animals that have recently gone extinct or are at risk of extinction? They claim to be doing this with the red wolf, but actually they did it with coyotes that have red wolf genes in them instead of an actual red wolf population. Which y'know, not nearly as helpful. And on the recently extinct part, in Spain in 2003, the first ever extinct animal was actually cloned. A pyrenean ibex, which at the time had only been declared extinct three years ago. Granted, the calf did die in minutes due to lung complications, but imagine if more work had been put into making stronger, healthier clones. The species may have been saved in a short enough time span that reintroduction was possible and attainable. But no such work into the pyrenean ibex or any other recently extinct species has been made.
Fourth and last. This entire talk of "de-extinction" when we haven't even truly done that yet does nothing but give politicians and corporations reasons to no longer care about conservation, because now, in their eyes and the eyes of the general public, extinction has been made trivial. The sanctity of actual conservation work is now at risk because people can just go "what's the point of saving them? They can just be brought back later." When that isn't how it works nor how it should be. But the people in charge don't care, they only care about profits. And pretending like we can bring the extinct back from extinction makes conservation work non-profitable. Colossal has potentially fucked over an unknowable amount of species.
And also, this doesn't even begin to tap into my issues with how CRISPR cloning is done in the first place. Ever notice how every cloned animal you hear about has been a mammal? I went onto Wikipedia to find a list of all cloned animals (yeah not the most scientific but it's easy and gets me more information than I could find on my own) and there are three examples of non-mammals being cloned. Ever. One was the xenopus tadpole in 1958, next was the Asian carp in 1963, and lastly was five fruit flies in 2005. That's it. That's every time a non-mammal was cloned. Nevermind that insects are the group of animals that have faced the most extinction in recent times, and have a massive effect on the entire Earth's environment. Not a single bird or reptile, either. All land mammals too; no bats or cetaceans. There's a bias here, and it does reflect in our conversation efforts.
Anyways that's my latest Rant On Things I Have Strong Opinions About. I would probably kill it if I took biotech again.
Colossal supposedly has a study coming that proves that dire wolves are more closely related to grey wolves than we thought. Egg on my face if true, but doesn't change that they didn't make [dire] wolves this time and it doesn't negate the rest of my points. Also, I should say that I don't think they purposely designed the wolves to look exactly like the ones from ASOIAF, but they're definitely leaning into that with all the publicity stuff they're doing with George R.R. Martin. - Garb's Addendum
I feel like there's a movie franchise based on this. About how blatantly immoral it would be regardless of whether they succeeded or not. It has something to do with dinosaurs. Ever heard of it?
Tumblr media
Literally all that I could think of reading about this entire situation is that there's a movie for this. It's called Jurassic Park, and it's specifically about the sketchy moral ethics of bringing extinct creatures back to life for human entertainment.

Unit 02 Blog Post
When I envision my ideal role as an environmental interpreter, I envision myself working with young learners, and I see myself teaching subjects like zoology and entomology. In previous experiences I've had working with children, I have found immense gratification in fostering an interest in science. In the context of environmental interpretation, I believe that nurturing a love for nature and interest in wildlife would provide me with a similar sense of fulfillment.
This past summer, I had the opportunity to work as a community presenter for the charity Scientists in School, where I traveled around the GTA conducting hands-on STEM workshops for school-age kids. The most rewarding part of that experience was witnessing the eyes of the children I was working with light up as they discovered the wonders of science beyond what is taught in a classroom. I believe that environmental interpretation for children could evoke the same excitement, making it an ideal career path for me.
Today’s children are increasingly influenced by technology and as a result are often spending less time outdoors, likely missing out on many opportunities to create personal connections in nature. I believe this generation would greatly benefit from engaging with nature through environmental interpretation. Teaching them to respect and appreciate their natural surroundings also fosters empathy—an essential component of their development.
To thrive in a role teaching children, several key skills are essential. First, being prepared and understanding the subject matter is crucial. Children are so inquisitive; they are always asking (sometimes unexpected) questions, so being able to answer them in an engaging and age-appropriate manner is super important. Next, strong presentation and communication skills are also necessary to keep young audiences with short attention spans engaged and interested. Patience is another important quality; kids often take more time to grasp concepts, and so encouraging their curiosity requires a supportive approach. Lastly and perhaps most importantly, being passionate about the subject matter is essential. Children are perceptive and can sense when someone lacks enthusiasm for what they are teaching. To truly engage them, one must authentically demonstrate spirit and passion for the environmental facet they are interpreting.
I am particularly interested in an environmental interpretation role that would focus on fields like zoology and entomology, which I have studied while here at the University of Guelph. Specifically, courses I have taken at Guelph that focused on insects have fundamentally changed my perspective on these creatures and highlighted their vital role in our ecosystems. I would love to help children understand that not all bugs are scary and gross; many are fascinating and play crucial roles in the environment. With a focus on those fields, an environmental interpretation role about insects or wildlife could happen in a number of places, such as nature centers, botanical gardens, zoos and aquariums, local parks, or even schools and community centers. One that I think would work best for this role would be botanical gardens, which often have butterfly gardens and insect exhibits — the perfect environment for doing guided tours and showcasing insects up-close. I would love to teach about their physiology, their roles in pollination and agriculture, and help remove some common negative perceptions of insects. I personally have visited many butterfly sanctuaries and have really enjoyed my time there — the employees always have really interesting stories and information to share about the creatures they care for. I just recently visited one this summer with my housemates, so I have included some pictures from that below!
Children possess an innate eagerness to learn and explore, and I am excited by the concept of an environmental interpretation role that would nurture that desire. The prospect that I could inspire even a tiny interest in nature and wildlife would be immensely rewarding. This is why I believe that a role as an environmental interpreter focused on young learners, combined with subjects I am passionate about like zoology or entomology, would be the perfect fit for me.

World Bear Day
Advocating for the preservation of wild habitats to protect these magnificent creatures and the delicate balance of nature they represent.
Show some love, along with tons of respect, for these fluffy, strong animals who are so iconic – and also just enormous!
World Bear Day brings attention to how cool these mammals are, but the day is also meant to raise awareness for the ways that their habitats may be at risk and reminding people how they can help.
History of World Bear Day
World Bear Day has been celebrated for more than three decades since it was first established in 1992. Starting out small, this day has grown in scope and popularity over the years as it shows appreciation for these spectacular furry creatures.
Other than Australia and Antarctica, every continent has a bear that is native to its lands. But with six of the eight species of bears on the threatened or endangered list, bears face some difficult circumstances.
Because these are solitary animals that require a great deal of space to live and hunt, the places where bears live have been severely limited over the past several decades. Due to the expansion of logging, agriculture and climate change, as well as human encroachment, bear populations are declining.
Celebrate World Bear Day to show support and raise awareness about the needs of these marvelous creatures!
How to Celebrate World Bear Day
Get on board and have loads of fun by sharing in the excitement of World Bear Day. Celebrate by getting started with some of these ideas:
Learn Fun Facts About Bears
Perhaps one enjoyable way to get involved with World Bear Day might be to learn some interesting bits of trivia about them and then share with friends, family members and more. Certainly, parents and teachers will find that children benefit from sharing the excitement about and interest in this fascinating beast.
Consider some of these amazing facts about bears in honor of World Bear Day:
While they can usually only survive for around 25 years in the wild, when kept in captivity a bear’s life span may last up to twice that – up to 50 years!
Even though they are big, bears are also super fast. Depending on the species, a bear may be able to run upwards of forty miles per hour.
When a bear hibernates in the winter, it can spend up to 100 days or more than three months without waking up
Make a Charitable Donation
Many of the world’s non-profit organizations are dedicated to helping various animals by protecting their habitats.
World Bear Day would be an ideal time to show support by making a small donation on behalf of the bears. A quick online search will reveal a wide range of different bear charities, including the American Bear Association, the Grizzly Bear Foundation, the Great Bear Foundation and many more.
World Bear Day FAQs

Angara Death Zone (an 18+ Discord-Based Multi-Fandom RP Group)
Tumblr media
An underground city, an enigmatic old man, a vast expanse of land that hasn't been explored in over a thousand years, a myriad of animals, five quirky but lovable leaders, and a past shrouded in mystery whose nature is steeped in murmuring from the population.
You'll find all this and more in Angara Death Zone, a multi-fandom Discord roleplay group that takes a less traditional approach to the post-apocalyptic genre (arguably, it should be called "post-post-apocalyptic), with a healthy does of mystery. It's a story of all that is good and all that is bad within humanity, set against the backdrop of wetlands featuring a heart-shaped lake. Our group has no member cap, nor do we have an immediate plans to implement one, so reserves are always open!
We have more details for you under the cut, but if you're short on time, here are some quick links!
PREMISE | RULES | FAQ | MASTERLIST | REQUESTED CHARACTERS | LOCATIONS | RANKUP SYSTEM | CONTACT
The Setting: Angara Death Zone is set in a world in which a catastrophe of unknown origins forced an unknown number of the population into an underground city known as the Cache. Whatever the disaster was, it resulted in the appearance of a poorly-understood force known as Waves, which humans have adapted to over generations. The Waves have weakened in recent centuries, allowing some intrepid people to establish settlements outside the Cache.
Upon arrival, your muse may feel a bit stir crazy as they'll be dragged inside the Cache for their own safety - Waves are especially dangerous to those previously completely unexposed, leading to painful mutations and even death in someone with no resistance - but with time and patience, they'll be able to experience life outside the Cache for themselves.
The People: Those who reside in the Cache have developed a strong sense of community and a somewhat morbid sense of humor, but they are unfailingly kind, even to complete strangers. OOC, you will take a quiz to determine which Direction your muse will fall into. Directions are a source of camaraderie and companionship, grouping people with similar beliefs and values together so as to provide everyone with a social network. Each Direction is led by a competent leader with a unique approach to their position.
Will your muse end up with the kind`and occasionally mischievous mortician, Vera? The stern and practical ranger, Mikaves? The eccentric yet knowledgeable historian, Erin? The shy yet thoughtful veterinarian, Ethan? Or will they end up with the sweet and encouraging zoo director, Susie? Wherever they end up, they'll find a wide array of colorful personalities.
There's also the Hunter Town on the outside, known for being resilient, but also warm and welcoming. They are a merry group of people, despite the dangers that come with living outside the Cache. While no other major settlements have been discovered or established in the immediate area, who knows what else could be out there?
The Creatures: Whoever it was that established the Cache was very animal-conscious, storing a wide variety of samples of animals from their time in order to regrow them. However, these samples were all affected by Waves, causing these creatures to be much less familiar than their counterparts from the time. From koalas who have two heads to echidnas capable of weaponizing their spikes and doing large-scale pest control, you'll find the wildlife in Angara Death Zone to be fascinating and oddly charming.
The Mysteries: Your muse will experience odd events before they arrive, and they won't stop once your muse has fallen into the lake. They'll learn of a time more than a thousand years ago that locals call the Bygone Era, a brief but presumably eventful time following a large span collectively referred to as the ancient age. The strangest thing about the Bygone Era is that next to nothing is known about it, and even some mysteries uncovered in some recently-discovered ruins leave a very unfinished picture of what things looked like back then, or what caused the great disaster of that time.
Ancient though they may be, those mysteries may very well hold the secret to your muse's return home.
The Choices: Is your muse curious and benevolent? Are they entirely apathetic and content to leave the past undisturbed? Or are they cruel and power-hungry, only serving the agendas of others if doing so will benefit them in turn? Your muse will find a course of action in Angara Death Zone via the Path system, and their actions will shape their lives in their strange new home.
The Perks: Being isekai'd isn't easy, especially when your muse has some restrictions at first. Even so, there's much to discover within the Cache, and they can obtain incredible abilities as their Wave resistance increases. Will they use the synthesis rooms to create that which they couldn't back home? Will they find a new job with flexible hours and fair pay, possibly even letting them start over from a past they couldn't escape in their previous world? Maybe they'd even be willing to unlock the potential that the Waves have granted their bodies, letting them mutate in a way that's safe for them and that will grant them new powers?
The Inspirations: With the unique and varied interests within the mod team, we've managed to create a group drawing from many different sources. As gamers, we've looked to titles like Fallout, Chaos Rings, Harvestella, Horizon Zero Dawn, and we've even drawn bits and pieces from Final Fantasy and Rune Factory. The music of My Chemical Romance has played a part in the group, as have educational and documentary-style programs like The Crocodile Hunter and Life After People. This range of inspirations has allowed us to create a setting and story that will keep our members invested and intrigued.
The Goals: We wanted to create a place where roleplayers can express creative freedom while getting to know others and share ideas. Above all, we want to create a space that is safe and well-run, while also valuing communication and honesty between mods and members alike. We strive to make people feel welcomed and included when they join.
If this sounds like the group for you, we look forward to seeing you, and if you have any questions, you can always send us a message here or on our Twitter account, @AngaraDeathZone!

1.03b Children’s Zoo
Director: Robert Downey
Writer: Chris Hubbell & Gerrit Graham
Cinematographer: Bradford May
Summary:
A little girl (Jaclyn Bernstein) purposefully tidies her room to the soundtrack of her parents (Lorna Luft & Steven Keats) having a shouting match elsewhere in the house. She removes a scroll from her dresser drawer—it’s a very exclusive invitation to the Children’s Zoo. She takes the scroll and her favorite teddy bear in hand and makes one last appraisal of her room. Above her dresser is a banner with “Welcome” written in large capital letters.
She enters the kitchen where her parents continue to argue crudely about seemingly anything and everything. She interrupts them and hands her mother the invitation. As one might expect, they now argue about the invitation and its stipulation that both parents must accompany the child.
They load into their station wagon and arrive at a brightly-colored facade—the exhibits are all indoors. The girl enters through a child-sized door on her own, meanwhile the parents do not cease their quarreling at any moment. The woman running the zoo herds the parents to their special Parents’ waiting room.”
The girl heads down a darkened hallway toward the first exhibit. Behind a large, circular glass window is a haggard looking man and woman. They beg the girl desperately to free them.
At the next exhibit, she finds a couple anxiously trying to find an escape from their room. When the girl activates the intercom, the man (Wes Craven) spouts off threats at her.
The next is a couple sleeping. This is followed by a couple ready to bargain with her like used-car salesmen desperate to drop a lemon. They promise her all the cookies and ice cream and delayed bedtimes her heart desires. She moves on.
Finally, the girl reaches an exhibit with a couple that speak to her calmly and explain that they’ve learned their lesson and speak with regret of their seven-year-old son who dropped them off there. The girl has made her choice.
The girl leaves the zoo with her new parents, as her discarded parents look on in dismay and shout for her to come back.

More about Children’s Zoo:
Children’s Zoo was written by the team of Chris Hubbell and Gerrit Graham. For both writers, TZ ‘85 is their first screenwriting credit.
Tumblr media
Yes, this Gerrit Graham.
They would go on to write two more stories for TZ ‘85 and also do some work for Disney films later. Hubbell also did some writing for children’s television in the 1990s.
Here’s the thing: Children’s Zoo is the best segment of the three scripted by Hubbell and Graham. One, Opening Day (1.10c), is easily one of the worst segments from TZ ‘85 and the other, Still Life (1.14a) is also pretty rough. Not a great track record, but I’ll talk about the other stories more as I work through the series chronologically. For this episode, I don’t have much behind-the-scenes material to report on, so I can’t say for certain why this story was bought or commissioned.
It’s not an especially strong script or story, but Children’s Zoo has two saving graces: it’s a shorter segment and it’s directed by Robert Downey.
Downey clearly envisioned an appropriate level of absurdity for the concept and had the skill as a director to execute it with enough style to make Children’s Zoo just over the top enough and still be coherent. While it isn’t as humorous as it might be, the soundtrack of arguing was very effective, and I think Luft and Keats do a good job of crafting cartoonishly bad parent characters in a very short span of time.
As for the short runtime, this is another instance of the final presentation of a story benefitting from the flexibility the showrunners had in regard to length of segments.
(As a refresher, the team was able to produce all of the segments for this season and then arrange the segments to fill an hour time slot, before the show went to air. It’s very uncommon to be given this much time in TV production btw.)
The short runtime may have helped Children’s Zoo as a standalone story, it doesn’t really jive with the other stories in this episode in any meaningful way. I’m speaking in comparison to the previous episode’s short, Dreams for Sale (1.02b), which created a nice thematic and tonal bridge between the two longer segments. Children’s Zoo however feels more like the non-sequitur-esque shorts of Night Gallery (1969). Even though I personally enjoy some of the humorous padding segments in Night Gallery, that’s not a compliment here.
Something that concerned me—both when watching this series for the first time but also when researching the production—was that it seemed too informed by Night Gallery. Not only is it a very different show than the TZ ‘59, it also wasn’t nearly as well-received. Additionally, Rod Serling did not have much creative control over Night Gallery, and he disliked the shorts, but didn’t have the authority to nix them. All that is to say that Night Gallery is not a particularly smart place to pull inspiration from for a revival of The Twilight Zone. Additionally, Night Gallery had been canceled for low ratings only ten years before TZ ‘85’s initial production was launched. I suppose network executives have short memories.
Considering Night Gallery’s influence on this show, it’s strange that Philip DeGuere, the showrunner for the first season of TZ ‘85, gave as a reason for the show’s failure (in the ratings) that people weren’t attuned to anthology shows anymore and didn’t get the format. Again, Night Gallery went off the air in ‘73. Also, the very successful Tales from the Darkside premiered in 1983 (although with a more economical budget/production model) and that was created in the wake of the popularity of Creepshow (1982), which was an anthology film. In short, that’s a cockamamie reason for TZ ‘85 not performing to expectations.
Apologies for the slight tangent! The most obvious original TZ episode that comes to mind to pair with Children’s Zoo is The Bewitchin’ Pool (5.36). Of course, there’s a dash of I Sing the Body Electric (3.35) in there too. [If Children’s Zoo had a stronger script it might have been great to include the emotional resonance of either of those TZ ‘59 stories. But, I stand by the fact that Downey’s absurdist take was likely the right call for the script he was working from.]

my final entry so far in my catching up on 2024 horror (+ 2023 horror by technicality because of festival release dates) saga is one i should have watched a long time ago, with infested (aka vermines in the original french.) really really liked it and reading about the intended themes makes me like it even more.
it's very cool to see a creature feature like this taking place in this rundown apartment building setting, with the same kind of strong community vibes as your typical small town setting but with characters who are all societally marginalized in some way. i really liked the sense of the relationships among the main characters we get and how they all basically like each other despite the conflicts that arise between them, and how they put aside any differences immediately once they're in a situation where they're all up against a common enemy (that is, the police, not the spiders so much.) i love kaleb and his sincere love of all his critters. i love the theme of "the spiders are just animals surviving in a hostile new environment, it's how authorities respond to a crisis like this you have to watch out for." pretty good depiction of how marginalized communities sticking together will get more shit done than those in charge who are supposed to handle everything. there's obvious parallels to covid but i think this can resonate with plenty of situations, and you definitely don't have to be specifically from france to get everything that's going down here.
it gets surprisingly serious for a creature feature, with character deaths being played for real emotional drama, and i think it works because the film establishes how much all these characters care about each other. there are a few moments of levity throughout (i love the scene where kaleb finally sets the whole webbed area on fire, then the spiders just start running towards them instead and he realizes this was maybe a bad plan and just yells RUN), but it's also a fairly grounded story. it feels real despite the fantastical conceit of spiders that reproduce this rapidly and grow that big in the span of a day. probably because of how explicitly political it gets.
i watched the whole prologue set in the middle east without subtitles before the action switches to france and i realized i was supposed to manually put them on. now i wish i did that earlier because i might have gotten translations of the opening too, but you can get the gist of what's going on without them. despite the rest of the movie's themes you could mistake this for the opening of a movie showing the threat coming from the barbaric desert invading our good civilized country, but that's definitely not what the rest of the film is getting at so it would be interesting to analyze this in relation to that. i did wonder briefly what was up with the one guy immediately killing the guy who got bitten first, but i think it's just to establish that if you get bit by one of these you are dead and anything else is a mercy kill.
(i did enjoy the varied characters but i have to confess that i was absolutely mixing up mathys and jordy for the majority of the movie and was surprised to be reminded that it was jordy in the picture with young kaleb at the reptile zoo)

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art
Tumblr media
Discover the Rich Heritage at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, IN
Nestled in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, just steps from the scenic Canal Walk, the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art stands as a cultural gem unlike any other in the Midwest. As one of only two museums east of the Mississippi that explores both Native American and Western American art, the Eiteljorg is a must-visit for art lovers, historians, and curious travelers alike.
With its stunning exhibitions, vibrant programming, and unique architectural presence, the museum offers an immersive journey into the diverse stories, cultures, and artistic traditions that have shaped the American West and Indigenous communities across North America.
A Vision Brought to Life
Founded in 1989 by businessman and philanthropist Harrison Eiteljorg, the museum was created to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation for the contributions of Native Americans and the diverse cultures of the American West. Eiteljorg’s personal passion for Native American art and Western artifacts led to a significant collection that laid the foundation for the museum’s permanent exhibits.
Today, the museum continues to honor that original mission—preserving cultural heritage, promoting artistic excellence, and encouraging dialogue about American identity and history.
A Distinctive and Inspiring Setting
Even before you step inside, the Eiteljorg Museum’s architecture captures your attention. The building’s sandstone exterior and natural design elements evoke the Southwestern landscapes of the United States, blending harmoniously with its art-filled interiors. Inside, visitors are welcomed by a warm, spacious environment filled with natural light, featuring rotating galleries, interactive spaces, and permanent collections that span generations.
The museum’s location within White River State Park and proximity to other major attractions like the Indiana State Museum and the Indianapolis Zoo make it an easy and accessible stop for visitors exploring the city.
Celebrating Native American Art and Culture
One of the core pillars of the Eiteljorg Museum is its deep commitment to Native American cultures, both historical and contemporary. The museum showcases one of the most comprehensive Native art collections in the Midwest, featuring artifacts from tribes across the United States and Canada.
Visitors can explore traditional regalia, beadwork, pottery, basketry, tools, and ceremonial items that provide insight into the customs, beliefs, and daily lives of Indigenous peoples. The museum also places strong emphasis on contemporary Native artists, proving that Indigenous creativity is not confined to the past.
Through powerful exhibitions and modern artworks, the Eiteljorg demonstrates how Native American artists are continuing to redefine their cultures while honoring their traditions. Interactive exhibits and multimedia presentations deepen the experience, offering context and voices directly from the Native communities represented.
Western American Art: Legends and Landscapes
In addition to its Native American collections, the Eiteljorg Museum boasts a remarkable selection of Western American art, ranging from the 19th century to the present. This includes dramatic landscapes, cowboy culture, frontier narratives, and portraits that depict the mythos and reality of the American West.
Works from iconic artists such as Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, and Georgia O’Keeffe highlight the artistic exploration of Western expansion, while more modern interpretations challenge and expand those narratives through new lenses.
This dual focus allows visitors to gain a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and contradictions of the American West—both as a place and as an idea.
The Gund Gallery and Changing Exhibits
The Gund Gallery of Western Art is one of the Eiteljorg’s signature spaces, dedicated to showcasing large-scale Western paintings and sculptures. With rich thematic displays and rotating exhibits, it offers visitors the chance to see the evolution of the Western aesthetic over time.
In addition to its permanent collections, the museum regularly hosts temporary exhibitions that delve into timely topics, artistic movements, and underrepresented voices. These exhibits bring in fresh perspectives and encourage return visits, as there’s always something new to discover.
Past exhibits have explored topics like Indigenous futurism, Latino heritage in the West, environmental changes, and the role of women in frontier history.
Eiteljorg Contemporary Art Fellowship
One of the Eiteljorg Museum’s most impactful programs is its Contemporary Art Fellowship, a biennial initiative that recognizes and supports Native artists breaking new ground in the art world. This program not only elevates Indigenous voices but also builds the museum’s collection of cutting-edge contemporary Native art.
Fellowship exhibitions provide a platform for artists to express personal narratives, challenge stereotypes, and explore themes like identity, colonization, resilience, and innovation. For visitors, it’s an eye-opening experience that connects historical traditions with the modern world.
Community Events and Cultural Programming
The Eiteljorg Museum is not just a place to view art—it’s a vibrant cultural center that offers hands-on experiences, live events, and educational programs year-round. From storytelling festivals and Native dance performances to art-making workshops and lecture series, the museum engages visitors of all ages.
Popular annual events include:
Indian Market and Festival – A summer event that celebrates Native American art, food, music, and culture.
Jingle Rails – A holiday favorite featuring a model train exhibit that travels through miniature versions of Western landmarks and Indiana sites.
Eiteljorg Museum Storytellers Series – Bringing Indigenous voices to the forefront through live storytelling, music, and spoken word.
These community-focused programs foster deeper cultural understanding and provide a welcoming space for learning and dialogue.
A Museum for All Ages
Families with children will find the Eiteljorg Museum to be a welcoming and kid-friendly environment. Interactive exhibits, touchable artifacts, and hands-on activities in the children's discovery areas ensure that young visitors stay engaged while learning about Native and Western cultures.
Educational programs align with school curricula, making the museum a popular field trip destination and a resource for teachers and students throughout Indiana and the region.
Dining and Shopping
A visit to the Eiteljorg isn’t complete without stopping by the museum’s gift shop, which features authentic Native American jewelry, books, pottery, and crafts. It’s an excellent place to find unique, meaningful souvenirs that support Indigenous artisans.
The museum café offers a relaxing spot to enjoy a snack or light meal, with views of the canal and downtown skyline, providing a peaceful break during your museum visit.

Tawny Frogmouth Bird | Overview
Tumblr media
Tawny Frogmouth Idnetifications
Tumblr media
Frogmouth Bird Identifications - CLASS: Aves (Birds) - ORDER: Caprimylgiformes - FAMILY: Podargidae - GENUS: Podargus - SPECIES: strigoides
ABOUT
Can you see Tawny Frogmouth Bird now? The Tawny Frogmouth is often mistaken for an owl, but it belongs to the nightjar family. Birdwatchers find these night birds by their long braces, short legs, and strong beaks. Tawny's foot is active at night; during the day, it navigates the trees with precision. I am from Australia, and they are also found in Tasmania. Five's frogs have weak legs, so they can't catch prey well. Instead, they rely on their success to trap it. Their main feathers are failing like those of the owl flights. They use a summer strategy and wait in the ambushed zone. This area has about 14 frog species, most with bright yellow eyes and large yellow to olive markings. As well as bills. These short and strong birds are 8.5 to 21 inches tall and weigh up to 1.5 pounds. Its plumage is a marble gray with marble and black in the ideal camouflage against the shaft of the tree. They have steamed feathers on their heads. Their feathers are thin and weak around the beak. They have curved legs and weak legs (different from the witches). They have rounded wings with spiky edges, which help them fly silently. They can also drop suddenly to catch prey, like owls do at night. When they feel threatened, their fangs blend into the camouflage, keeping them safe. Their marbled feathers make them blend into the forest. Stay still with your eyes closed and your habits pointing toward the sky. I approach it carefully. It's under close observation because the frogmouths might rise. They try to scare the predator with their wide yellow mouths. Predators are foxes, dogs, and cats. Tawny Frogmouths aren’t known for chatting. They make a burring sound when surprised or feeling threatened. They can be confused with the call of "whhho-wook!" but the usual call of the Frogmouth is "oOom-oom." LIFE SPAN Up to 10 years of expert care. YOUNG Number of eggs laid: 1 to 3 Incubation period: 30 days Age at fledge: 25 to 35 days SIZE Height: 8 to 21 inches (20 to 53 centimeters) Weight: Up to 1.5 pounds (680 grams) Wingspan: 25 to 38 inches (64 to 97 centimeters) FUN FACTS Often confused with a civet, these single birds belong to the Night of Nightmares. They are part of the dark and strange world of Paraposotorwill. These birds have long, unique tongues that fork at the end. During the day, frogs rest on low branches of trees. When they feel threatened, they make their bodies look like a branch. This is called "stamping."
Tumblr media
Tawny Frogmouth Habits
HABITAT AND DIET
Frogmouth Tawny is a bird found in many places across Australia and Tasmania. They live in forests, swamps, eucalyptus, and steep parks. The only places where they have to be are spaces without shadows or dense tropical forests. The Frogmouth Tawny adapts well to suburban life. This can lead to car strikes, especially when it lights up near street lamps. They usually live in pairs and keep a territory of less than half a mile. The duo roosts over the day near each other in the branches or even on the ground to stay discreet. Frogmouths are nocturnal. During the day, they are usually resting in a tree, on low ground, or on fungus in trees. It is not possible to remove the adverb. They also have gusts, indigo buntings, chestnuts, wrens, and other birds too. They feed on an opportunistic diet of small mammals, reptiles, and other kinds of birds. They sit still, waiting for predators. Perched in a tree, they hold on tight. They grab items like butterflies in flight. The traffic from the opposite direction can threaten these pads. At the San Diego Zoo, the Frogmouth eats insects, pinkies, crickets, and giant flour and wax.
FAMILY LIFE
Fauche Rane form pairs that are exclusively monogamous for breeding. They're together for life! The breeding season is from August to December each year. It usually rains heavily at the start of this time. They often use the same reproduction method each year. They hold their nests with sheets, fuses, foam, or available litter. Both of them ink and protect the nest against predators. Eggs are incubated for about 30 days. After hatching, both parents feed the hungry chicks. They do this for 25 to 35 days. Finally, the neonates leave the nest.
CONSERVATION
Frogmouth Fauve is listed by IUCN as a type of least concern. The man is the biggest threat. He often drives the cars that chase the myths created by the vehicle lights. I am also likely poisoned by pesticides, as they can be found in urbanized areas. Authorities banned a long pesticide in Sydney, Australia. Worries about wildlife, including Frogmouth FAWN, prompted this decision. Predators include foxes, dogs, and cats. The San Diego Zoo's focus is on animal welfare. It has a strong reputation worldwide. Read the full article

San Diego Planning Stricter Street-vendor Law
Regulating street vending is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, it ensures public safety by enforcing health and hygiene standards, preventing foodborne illnesses, and reducing fire hazards. Regulations also help manage congestion in public spaces, ensuring that sidewalks and streets remain accessible to pedestrians and emergency services.
Additionally, regulations protect consumers from fraud and unscrupulous vendors by setting pricing and quality standards. They promote fair competition among vendors and local businesses, contributing to a thriving economy. By regulating street vending, cities can also maintain the aesthetic appeal of their neighborhoods, enhancing the overall urban experience. It balances entrepreneurship and public interest, fostering safer, more vibrant, and economically stable communities.
