Hello! How did you add paperlike texture to your art? I tried to use some asset from CSP but it ended up very messy and doesn't looks like paper at all

i use high res (< very important) but neutrally coloured/even paper textures of various types myself 🤔 i fiddle w the layer modes to see what effect i like best, as well as the brightness of the texture image

i Believe the ones i mainly use... came with a maxulichney brush pack? but looking on his website now i dont see them.. if i remember i will check if they have a name attached

i also used the riso texture overlay from the riso truegrit texture supply pack in my most recent drawings

what kind of brushes do you use for your digital work?

Hi! Firstly I work Mainly in Procreate so I will just talk about those brushes.

There I use a bit of everything!

So I love the defaults brushes procreate has and use them a LOT. Especially the 6B Sketching pen and the inking dry pen! (Default Chalk brush in Calligraphy and Bonobo Chalk Brush in Sketching as well!) Then for more texture I use a lot of brushes from @maxulichney Gouache and Watercolor Max pack! oh! And I recently too started using some brushes From Olguioo! https://olguioo.carrd.co/ And of course I have a few brushes I made myself that are always good.

But really I recommend playing around with brush sets and packs one at a time. Its easy to get overwhelmed by brushed and what they can do believe me! Start by trying to narrow down what kind of effect you are looking for in your art! Its is for lines? is it texture? is it blending? then you can experiment and find the right brush you need! All in all I use mostly maybe 6 to 10 brushes for 99% of my work. And I have maybe 100 (150?) on my ipad.

Just find the ones that work for you!:)

She’s done!

As part of my new left-handed life I challenged myself to do a standard fantasy character illustration; I produced this through a few hours a night of work over two weeks; I'd guess there's maybe 30 hours of work here total. Nowhere near my usual speed, but a result I am certainly happy with!

Shoutout specifically to procreate and @maxulichney's glorious retro and watercolour brushes; they make messy markmaking fun again!

Gonna print myself a copy for my wall; she is now my patron saint of Relearning Skills with the Non-Dominant Hand Through Sheer Endurance and Liberal Use of the Undo Command.

Fun fact: to sign it, I zoomed in till the signature could fill my 12"ipad screen, wedged the pen into my tightly braced right hand, and used my whole arm to draw it. That's right, folks, my shoulder's still got it!

Started painting this one last night and haven’t really slept much LOL! Super proud of how it turned out and feel like I’m starting to get to grips with @maxulichney ‘s new oil brushes!! - I really like their versatility for skin! Gnomey the gnome

Character design time! The client wanted a gnome mascot that was a combination of Ice cube and Stanley from The Office, but with a little bit more of a positive vibe than those 2. His name is Gnomey. I used @procreateapp with @dizzytara-stuff. and @maxulichney brushes.

i keep trying to look for a brush similar to the one you use for your art but for procreate and i keep coming up empty, i’m devastated ;-;

im a total clipstudio convertee but i did use procreate for quite a while some yrs back! my main linework brush then was from the maxulichney watercolour pack called 'ink liner toothy' if that helps 🤔

also while i totally get that brushes help achieve certain looks & can for sure make the process more or less fun/easy, try not to put Too much weight on ur tools! ive definitely had moments when trying out a brush an illustrator i like uses and getting frustrated when the results are inevitably not the same, bc u kno.. we r two different ppl w different ingrained techniques and probably different tablets fidjgid

maybe think more abt the qualities of the brushes i use that you like (chisel shape? sensitive to pressure changes? a little cronchy/textured?) and considering those when looking for brushes rather than finding an exact match 👌
