idk i see a lot of people saying things like "oh allura should've been red or black paladin" and like. i very much see where you're coming from. temperamental-wise, she's much more suited for red than blue, and she is a leader the way that the black paladin is meant to be.

but i also think part of her character is learning to fight and live in this completely new world to her (s8 does not exist) and being the red/black paladin really would not have been. great for that.

black paladin keith and allura's relationship is important, at least to me, because she has to watch another galra take the lead of voltron. she was there the last time this happened. and this does happen after she apologizes (unless i'm forgetting??) but i would assume that it's still there. making allura the black paladin feels a bit like. well a galra did terribly last time, so obviously the altean princess will be a better leader. also, she's just as impulsive as keith honestly??

allura becoming the red paladin makes more sense due to temperament, lance stays blue, and shiro moves to the atlas, but i still think it wouldn't really have worked. the red lion was her father's lion, and there was some level of jealousy towards keith there from what i saw. she has to accept that a galra pilots red, the way that she has to accept that not all galra are evil, and that she cannot keep clinging onto her father's legacy. she's made her own legacy instead, and at this point the name allura is more well-known than alfor. she's allowed to mourn, she's allowed to always grieve altea, but she also does need to move on (in a way, not phrasing this perfectly).

Working with Lotor is strange, but working with Lotor and Allura is taxing, to say the least.

You are unsure how much of this romantic tension you could possibly endure and with your mind still reeling from your argument with Keith you worry about lashing out again.

Your work with Lotor towards infinite quintessence is very important, if not one of the most important projects you have been a part of.

The group of you quickly discovered that your ability to control quintessence was much stronger than Alluras- similar to that of his mother he had said in a moment of careful clarity, another surprising discovery. It was comforting to know that galra-altean romance was possible and the fact that Lotor was altean only made you and Allura feel closer to him as you are the last of a dying species.

As to Lotors request you had been trying to increase your connection with your powers, hoping that it would allow them to become stronger. You had already found that you could use quintessence you had stored within yourself to heal and found that you could naturally recharge your own source a lot faster than in the past.

Lotor and Allura had found a script over the tale of Oriande and hoped it was true that you could reach a place that you teach you more about altean alchemy- however, it also made you sad to think that this is what the elders would have taught you but instead, they are dead leaving you the last true “Altean witch” as Lotor has dubbed you.

After the revelation it really began to make sense why Alfor sent for you that day, to put you into the sleep chamber he knew you had the abilities that he had. It was almost as if he could see it coming, all the other witches, even Honerva (as Lotor still claimed) being wiped from the planet.

It also made Haggar's wariness of you make sense- she saw you as an equal, it's a rather daunting idea that you could ever be like her. You and Allura couldn’t believe all of your untapped potential, being able to open the stone that would lead to Oriande a feat which the princess was sure only her father could accomplish really sealed the truth into the pair of you, you weren't just put into the pod to be a companion for Allura you were put there to find what Honerva couldn’t infinite quintessence to allow for peace throughout the universe. 

You suppose it only made sense that you like Allura and Lotor would have the mark of the chosen and therefore be able to get to Oriande, to the temple of alchemists, to be able to learn from the white lion and allow you to become an altean alchemist like Alfor. 

Most of your focus as of late had been on creating Lotor a ship to allow him and therefore you access to the quintessence field, you were happy for the distraction as all your thoughts would otherwise be on Keith and your last words to one another, you regretted your temper getting the better of you but also felt so disheartened by him and his words that he thought you needed constant protection and that you spoke too much layering your head with insecurities no comforting words from Lance could even sway.

You could feel yourself relying on the Cuban boy much more than you did before, and he you. You suppose it’s because you relate to the idea of unrequited feelings for another paladin and often find the other to be a solace. Watching Lotor and Allura get closer made your heart ache for the boy but at the same time, Lotor was also now your friend as you had said to Lance many a time when he didn't want to express his feelings towards Lotor afraid you would get upset that he is your family, so he will always come first to you.

It wasn't surprising to find him alone on the sofa after Allura turned him and the other paladins away from building the ship, clearly feeling upset. You sat next to him in silence, waiting until he was ready to speak. 

“I mean I don't really have much to offer, i’m just a boy from Cuba and he's a space prince” you simply smiled at him 

“That doesn't make you any less worthy and if she can't see that, then she's clearly not the one for you” The boy knew you spoke from experience as he liked to put it.

Keith was a fool to not notice your feelings towards him and while you once thought of Keith with a warmth in your cheeks all you could feel now was dread about when you next need to see him, what more he could possibly say to you or what new way he could find you break your heart like he does so easily.

You comm buzzed before you could get another word in, Allura calling you back to work. Lance smiled in understanding as you got up to leave praying that for once he believed you when you told him he was worth everything and more just as he does to you.

This was the moment the three of you had been waiting for. You stood in between Allura and Lotor looking up at the ship

“We have done everything we can to prepare. We are more than ready.”

she was right, it was time to get into the quintessence field, prove it could be done and then a future of peace for the galran empire would await you as you come back.

The three of you boarded the ship and took your seats, after a quick check that everything was working, the ship was ready to go, the castle-ship opened the doors and off you went towards the middle of the destroyed planet. Lance called out to you and Allura through the comms

 “Come back safe” to which Allura replied 

“We will” Then it was time Coran was counting down the ticks until gate entry and you tried to stay calm, knowing deep down that this would work 

“Are you ready?” Lotor asked the both of you 

“it’s too late to turn back now” is all you said as Allura spoke 

“Here we go” then nothing but light surrounded you

“Extraordinary” Allura declared as the quintessence particles swirled around you 

“These readings are beyond anything I could have imagined, what we do here today will change the course of the universe forever” Lotor spoke amazed to which Allura responded staring at her hands as well as your own swirling with quintessence 

“In the hands of the wrong person, this power could easily corrupt” you agreed “It's no wonder Zarkon went mad, there's so much of it everywhere, it's overwhelming” The two looked at you with concern clearly the power was weighing heavier on you but you simply shook your head it was nothing you couldn't handle. 

“We will see that this power never does, and will continue the work of Allura's father, now let's see if we can collect some samples.” 

You felt on cloud nine returning from the quintessence field, the power coursing through you was electrifying so much that you shocked Lotor when he grabbed you to help you down from the ship “Sorry” you squeaked when he jolted in surprise but simply laughed as he moved to help Allura down.

The three of you walked towards the main control room when the doors opened you noticed them all looking your way menacingly. Lance quickly walked towards you you raised an eyebrow as you grabbed onto his arm walking towards the rest of the paladins

“What's wrong” you simply asked eyebrows furrowed deep with concern as you looked at the Cuban boy he simply met your gaze before whispering

 “I'm so sorry” Before drawing his weapon it was then that you noticed Keith and a Galran who were at the back of Allura and Lotor, weapons also drawn

“Allura step away from Lotor” Lance demanded to which Allura replied

 “I will do no such thing, tell me what is happening here” you followed the paladin's looks of hatred and ire at Lotor before making eye contact with him 

“What have you done?” is all you asked but he simply looked at you confused before murmuring

 “I- what do you mean?” his hand reached forwards in an attempt to touch you but Coran quickly moved you out of the way looking disgusted that he would even try to touch you. Then a new voice spoke out 

“Lotor is a monster, and has been harvesting altean quintessence for generations” You watched the alarm creep onto his face as you turned to see the owner of the voice Allura exclaiming out before you even had a chance to process who that was 

“An altean?” Allura turned to Lotor looking at him as the altean continued

“You killed my brother and thousands of others.” a look of absolute hatred on her face.

“Lotor has been lying to us the whole time, he's a murder just like his father” Pidge announced and you simply stared at her shock evident on your face. 

“You know nothing about what you speak” Lotor tried to defend 

“What are they talking about?” Allura questioned 

“Allura listen to me” He tried “I've dedicated my life to preserving altean culture. Now that we have unlocked the quintessence field, all of your people who would have been hunted down long ago had it not been for my interference, can live in peace” to which you replied 

“I can understand safeguarding them, but you were saluting them, that is not keeping them safe, Allura please step away from him, he is not what he said he was” he simply dismissed you looking to Allura

“Were some lives lost, yes but they were martyrs to a noble cause, I sacrificed a few to maintain the thousands. Do not let this ruin everything we have worked for.” he grabbed her hand but she quickly sent him flying over her onto the ground.

Then Alarms started blaring, Lotor ships were being taken

“The hangars were breached!” Coran shouted running towards the console 

“It’s Lotors troops, they are stealing the ships!” Hunk exclaimed when Shiro suddenly fell to the ground in pain, hands clutching at his head

"Shiro'' Keith spoke his name in confusion but the man was groaning in pain still 

“What’s happening to him?” Coran questioned as you ran towards him, hands touching his head.

“Allura and I will secure the Lotor, You and Hunk try to help Shiro, everyone else to the hangar '' Lance ordered and they left. 

“Shiro” Hunk asked as he turned to him but Shiro quickly shoved him into Coran sending them flying before turning to you and Lance 

“Shiro what are you-” he started but the man sent a punch knocking him out of the way, Allura jumped out of the way as Shiro activated his bayard sending it flying towards the doors but you weren't so lucky, the world quickly fading into darkness. 

You were promptly shaken awake by a dazed Lance groaning your head was throbbing, touching your forehead met you with blood from the impact of Shiro's bayard on your hands 

“Is everyone okay to fly their lions” you heard Keith ask over the comms 

“I think I can handle it” Hunk replied while Lance spoke 

“We’ve got this” while getting you off the ground with Alluras help

 “Then let's go, if we want to fight Lotors ships we are going to need Voltron” Keith declared while Pidge spoke worriedly in reaction to his words

“Shiros gone, whos going to pilot the black lion?” and Keith simply said

 “I will.” 

You quickly got inside your lion, head pulsing and bleeding as you followed the rest of the lions into space, tailing the ships, you all quickly started fighting them as Keith went towards the altean pod that had Shiro inside trying to figure out what was wrong.

You were barely able to escape the lasers of the ships you helped make, you would be proud of your work if it wasn't directed at you. Lasers flashed at each other, purple and white, you cursed as you got hit again simply breathing before trying again, the lions could barely get their lasers to charge up before they were hit by Lotors minions 

“Guys we are no match for them in our lions, form Voltron” Keith announced and for the first time in a long time, you agreed with him. 

Forming Voltron however, also seemed to not help, if anything it made it worse giving the three ships just one body to focus on.

The constant swerving was making you feel sick barely able to see what was ahead of you, the voices of Coran and Keith could be heard offhandedly but you couldn't register the words coming out of their mouths as the three ships joined their lasers together to make one larger one sending voltron into a nearby asteroid.

You worked in complete autopilot, the words coming out of your teammates' mouths sounding muffled as if underwater to you only snapping out of your daze when the ship, once again, is sent crashing into a rock causing you to gasp in surprise while everyone else groans in pain.

Before Voltron could continue the fight a large purple wormhole appeared in front of the old altean ship that Shiro was piloting. 

“Is that?” Pidge questioned looking up at the purple entity now in the sky

 “A wormhole?” Lance questioned but before he could continue Keith exclaimed

 “They are trying to escape!” as Lotors' ships travelled towards it. 

“Haggar” Allura announced 

“She must of gained the ability somehow” to which you quipped

“Maybe Lotor showed her the way to Oridane allowing her to unlock the secrets Honerva left behind” Allura took a sharp intake of air but before she could spiral Keith spoke 

“We can’t worry about this now, we need to make sure we get Shiro back. 

“But Shiros is not Shiro anymore,” Hunk replied. You nodded in agreement, 

“There's something dark within him, it’s intoxicating.” Keith looked down to lap trying to register your words

 “I know, something is wrong with him. The galra or Lotor have to be behind it.” he paused for a moment to collect himself “You all know he would never give up on us. We can't give up on him.”

 As a team, you used all your power to make Voltron move away from the rock and fly towards the wormhole but the robot was clearly worse for wear as Keith called out “Guys, one of my thrusters are down, can you compensate?” 

“Those beams torched our power core I've never seen anything like it” Pidge replied while hunk looked at the vitals 

“We have maybe 30 seconds of overclocked burn time” Clearly we weren't going to make it to the wormhole together but Keith still wanted to try 

“Hit it!” he exclaimed as the robot went even faster but even at half way through the burn you still went close enough 

“We aren't going to make it!” Lance cried out while 

Pidge exclaimed “We're too heavy!” 

“We need to disband” you murmured to yourself not thinking anyone could hear you but Keith quickly echoed your thoughts 

“Disband” to which the other paladins shouted in confusion 

“The energy from us disconnecting might create enough thrust just be enough to get the black lion through the wormhole, and if not I can give them a boost. Haggars is not the only one with a few new tricks.” you reasoned 

“But Keith will be the only one on the other side” Allura called out but as the wormhole was closing it was clear, that this was the only option 

“Do it!” Keith called out making you use your controls to disband your lion while also focusing your energy on the black lion, its glow going from purple to white as it speeded up making it into the wormhole by the hair of its tail.

You slouched into the chair of a lion breathing heavily as the area went quiet- all you could do now was wait.

Au where Lance grew up in gravity Falls before voltron. Imagine Allura trying to figure out whether the weird thing Lance says and does is a weird human thing or weird Lance thing

Anon, anon, anon, I love where your brain is at right now.

Humans, to Allura and Coran at least, are weird in their own right. With how similar they look to alteans, they always get thrown by the occasional thing that to them, is just so alien (all those languages they apparently speak even through they’re from a secluded planet, the way cold food freezes their brains—though they enjoyed the food from the planet Icesocles saying it was similar to ‘ice cream’ and wished they could stay longer to build ‘snow men?’, their lack of strength, talk of rain that’s just… water with zero protective shields required to deal with except maybe ‘an umbrella’ which sounds incredibly low tech, and bizarrely only have one heart which is a terrible survival technique). But Lance has a particular brand of weird that just stands out and Allura quickly learns he cannot be used as a basis for understanding what all human first world problems are like.

Hunk tells Allura that it’s just where Lance grew up. Like his hometown, Lance is a bit of a weirdness magnet (which tracks. One minute he’s trying to sneak off and go partying, the next he’s in a cave with a rag tag team and the inscriptions are glowing). Lance has always had these strange stories to tell at the garrison, ones where he was just talking about his family, and the strangeness of his home town was not the focus, but very much prevalent in the story. Some people thought he was just trying to get attention, or seem interesting, but Hunk knew that didn’t seem right. And then Hunk got invited by Lance one year to Gravity Falls and realised that that town really is just like that ™ and you really couldn’t make this kind of stuff up. Turns out it’s not just to attract tourists???? Hunk wonders why more people aren’t freaking out about this (the answer is all proof is seen as fake).

-The Gravity Falls Lance is from is about 50-ish years ahead of the one we’re familiar with. But it’s largely the same. Gravity Falls will always be Gravity Falls.

-When Hunk visited, there was a sudden influx of gnomes in the area. They wanted to steal his all his baking, which Hunk was cool with (once he realised where it was going and not just. Vanishing into thin air), but they had to at least leave some for them. The gnomes miss his baking and really want to make Hunk their queen.

-In this au, Lance doesn’t initially see Pidge as insane for believing in aliens. He accidentally stumbled into the spaceship in the hill when he was a kid whilst trying to look for a missing cat. If he had a nickel for every time he stumbled onto a spaceship… Allura’s the first living alien he’s seen though! And a lot prettier than a pile of bones.

-Lance’s family’s habit of adopting stray cats extends to the bizarre animals of the town too. Lance couldn’t even tell you what species his first pet was. But they definitely are not a cat. He still loves his not-cat Ninja, though <3

-He’s super friendly with a lot of the supernatural. A shame it’s not all super friendly back.

-Lance’s fear of the castle ship being haunted is very legitimate and reasonable. Ghosts are very real!!! (And… maybe there are ghosts here. Not just Alfor’s ‘ghost.’)

-Lance first crush was on a mermaid. Well. Siren.

-“Holy crow! You have mermaids in space too!”

-He’s honestly surprised at how humanoid many of these aliens are. He’s seen stranger.

-Seen many a headcanon about Keith getting caught up in the search for Mothman whilst looking for Shiro (spiralling into the world of conspiracy). Lance will neither confirm nor deny seeing Mothman. Keith just wants an answer :((

-Lance grew up watching bootleg shows on Gravity Falls TV. His references are incredibly niche.

-When Shiro temporarily dies, he has an encounter with the axolotl.

-Haggar/Honerva keeps all those spare Shiros because she, too, is working on making her very own space boy band. As a side gig. Project Kuron takes priority though.

-The longer Pidge spends around Lance, more more interested she gets in hearing about Gravity Falls (she’d heard rumours, sure, but hearing first hand accounts from a local. It has her attention immediately). Pidge just wants to understand the hows and whys and all the science, it drives her nuts, and Lance is just happy to talk about home :)

-Just when Lance thinks he’s free of zombies, now they have space zombies Zarkon and Honerva to deal with.

-Time travel technology is thankfully developed long after people like Haggar and Zarkon are gone. Otherwise… yikes.

-But perhaps the team do end up on a journey to the past and meet the paladins of old??? (Time travel existing is too good to pass up). But trying to change the past leads to time police showing up. What happens to Altea is a canon event :((

-In reference to this comic (that I’m for some reason now thinking about) Lance can now show the alteans the dinosaurs when they come visit Earth.

-Lance finally understands what those soothsquito bites that said ‘Leware Botor’ were all about. A little too late though.

-Sendak doesn’t even know what to think when he tries to invade Gravity Falls. Everywhere else but the garrison was easy. And then there’s this place. What do you mean they have a gnome Voltron?? Your average galra will try and stay clear. It’s lawless, eerie. Troops go missing here. Sendak has had enough of it.

Voltron Characters Headcanons, go!

Finally, Part 3! Here's Shiro, Allura, and Coran! This is a little bit shorter, so sorry. Thank you for helping me with some of these @gilyoungroach & @hotdogcabbagesausage !

ALLURA

- Pure Pansexual (Aliens don't have labels but she loves everyone so-) - Mostly She/Her Pronouns (Genderfluid) - Allura definitely had a rebellious teen era and it's why she doesn't like Keith because he reminds her of that era and she cringes every time she remembers it. - Allura collects shiny and sparkly rocks. This is canon but still. She has a very extensive rock collection spanning from "shiny but ordinary" to "so shiny" and even all the way to "super, extra sparkly" - I don't have much to say with her actually. Niko sums it up pretty fucking well: "allura goddess case closed" - @nikogane

CORAN (Aka. Single Pringle)

- Aliens = Pansexual. Duh. /lh /j (for legal reasons, this is a joke- ) - He/Him - I also really like the transgender Coran HC (good for him honestly) - #Alforan was one-sided. Yes. He loved Alfor with all his heart. Sadly, the feeling wasn't mutual, he never confessed but knew the truth deep down. Coran was content just being there beside Alfor as his advisor though it hurt him every time he saw his first and only love being sweet with Melenor. - Despite his lingering feelings and longing, he never hated Melenor or Allura. He treats Melenor like a queen, obviously, but also like a sister. And of course, he loves Allura like his own daughter. - If he was an Earthling, I think he would've totally done drag... And he would've slayed the runaway. - He gives me so much... Lance but a different age, different upbringing sort of vibe. Those two definitely talk deep into the night about their issues and problems, Coran would've been Lance's version of Shiro.

SHIRO (Aka. The gayest man that ever did gay.)

- Gay. Just gay. This isn't even a headcanon, it's canon. - He/Him - probably brings a first aid kit wherever he goes when he's with Keith or the others. Let's be honest. - A red wine mom/dad. He definitely chugged one in a sitting and Keith was just amazed.. (and also did it too, leading to Keith's first hang-over and Shiro being an irresponsible brother) - Chronically addicted to coffee. Has like- brewery equipment, like the shit you'd see in coffee shops but only for like half of Shiro's whole kitchen. He's got packets of different flavors, sugars, milk, etc. - He was emo. He was emo before. It's canon. He was emo. That's where Keith gets his genes /j - Contrary to popular belief, Shiro can cook. Especially Korean and Japanese foods because he learned so Keith could still taste those familiar things his late father would've given him when he was little. - Probably is a hoarder, not that much though. Like, he keeps antique cups, teapots, dishes, and even a china cabinet solely for coffee cups that he never uses but only keeps on display so that he has a good story to tell everyone that visits... and it's always the same fucking story. - Will take any and all opportunities to tease Keith about literally anything. - Adding to the last headcanon/kinda canon thing, he also likes to remind Keith of his embarrassingly cute moments like when Keith first moved into Adam and Shiro's house and had a nightmare so they all curled up on the couch and watched shitty movies and Keith fell asleep literally seconds in and slept like a fucking baby. - Gay. PART: 1 & 2

My Lieutenant Ozar doodle dump

Not really unsafe- goofy and some hints to who I’d ship him with for fun! (Go to end for ship expo ^^)

I just really had to get him done! So much fun with doodling my blue man! Good for warming up to the future! Also…my first in a hot while post! And it’s actually a drawing! Wowza!

Anyways, He has big ears, they twitch in tune to emotions and whatnot.

He also got a tail (I hc) because…why not.

Matt and Ekkiki were waiting to wash that ol’ trench coat and a uh…shrunk (the shrikening incident which was fixed by Onito’s grace)

Fun story on the Ozar/Plaxum/Varkon ship I have as a bonus

Ozar met Plaxum first during a meeting with the Mers. Side he had been tangled up with the war and a previous Bad relationship, he didn’t exactly have the new feeling click till he was already gone. Though he did return when needed. On those times and before the would leave with those accompanying him, he did get back into contact with Plaxum. Overtime he would become familiar with her and the culture of the mers, and she would become more aquatinted with his type. Besides the paladins (Lance and hunk) she hadn’t interacted with many ‘land dwellers’ though he does find them weird yet charming.

Time passing by, Ozar would end up forming a closer bond with her over her interest in cooking and sea gardening. Learning a bit from her as she would from him and the land above. Eventually Ozar and Plaxum would enter a secret relationship before Olia found out as Plaxum questioned her on what types of fish he’d enjoy eating raw. After that nothing out of the ordinary occured besides a few swimming and diving scares. Once Olkarion was sought to be the headquarters of the Voltron coalition, Plaxum would become one of the first Mer, to fully become land bound by her own choosing. To which Ozar helped her become more accustomed and have better access due to the limited mobility.

Allura and the paladins opted to take some of the fighters out to the space mall for a day trip. Plaxum hadn’t gone far from her home so she jumped at the option. With some time and a bunch of patience on both ends- Ozar and Plaxum were able to make it work.

After an accident with the mall cop(s) and Keith, Varkon would end up spotting the two from afar after they made a run to the Mall’s food court, taking the chance of meeting these two new, if not oddly placed faces, he would figure an idea on approach them. Mostly by scootering over and blurting out an offer of soda from Vrepit-Sal’s. Which was one of the areas Plaxum had been wanting to try anyways. In the end— Varkon got to meet the two a bit more and sort of made a connection between them. Resulting in the trio having more little ‘dates’ in secret before Varkon ended up having to leave his position due to the connection with them. (And when they realized who was being affiliated with)).

Varkon would end up sticking with Plaxum on Olkarion as some extra hands with her cooking for the refugees and coalition members. Ozar drops by often and keeps in constant communication with the two. When he’s able to he’s often seen trying to learn a bit of cooking from Plaxum—though often ends up with Varkon having to put out the resulting flames from his attempts of cooking. Overall they live a fairly uneventful live during the period with the Voltron coalition and it’s expansion over the falling Galra empire.

Just a little brainstorm, I wanna draw more because…well, I love to ship and just do fun stuff with this stuff. Also! Another note…Alfor/Thace is still there just got this done to clear my mind up.

Voltron in "The Little Mermaid" part one!

Hello all! A little late but heres a short part of a short piece For Julance and Lances Birthday (cause I take forever to do anything and it wasnt ready in May :/). I really loved the Live action, by far the best out of them all, so heavy inspiration pulled from that one- as well as some spoilers with song references and scenes ect so warned- but I also pulled from the cartoon and musical a bit and just mashed a lot of randomness together!

Now I'd like to thank @paracosm299 for reading this and helping out in the brainstorming process! They were a huge help, and as always a humungus support! Love you!

I'd also like to thank @autisticlancemcclain @awhoreintheory and @mothmanavenue ! The first two for answering my asks and moth for beautiful art making me fall in love with a ship used in this fic. And for just being overall amazing, keeping my love for Voltron alive and giving so many people reasons to smile!

The ocean was abuzz with commotion and far too many visitors, all oozing with the need to please the Emperor. Lance had far better things to be doing, though his father would attest, and he found himself swimming farther and farther from the noise. Which wasnt odd of course, Lance could be found on the outskirts of Alteaica more often than not.

"I could've sworn it was around here somewhere..." Coran, an older creature and Lances Best friend, indulged Lances curiosity the most.

He didnt know much of the man, despite how often his rambles and odds and ends left Lances head spinning, but the mystery of him intrigued the merman. He was a bit of an outcast, kept out of the public eye as much as possible like he knew something Lance didnt. And he did, know a lot that is, places and history and things from a time before Lance came to be and further. Allura chided Coran for being a bad influence, but her heart never seemed in it, Lance had seen her far off stare as she listened to a ramble far too much to believe she didnt too know more than she said.

"Oh!" They pass farther than typically allowed, and Lance sees the reason why.

Below lays a wrecked ship, one Lance has yet to explore.

"Come on Coran!"

"You know this reminds me of..."

Lance listens idly to Corans tale, scanning the area carefully as they decend to where the boat rests on the sea floor. He thinks of the storm that would have caused this, thinks of the lives of the humans on board, wonders how many of them made it home. The Emperor would scoff at him, berate him for sharing a caring thought towards the very beings were endanger their waters. But as they drift into the wreck, and his eyes catch on every little detail, he cant help but think they are so much more.

"...And then Alfor sneezes and the whole colony popped, completely vanished, I still wonder what happened to those little quiznakers, they stole my snacks..." For an Octopus, Lance can help but think his face shows perfect contempt for whatever those creatures were.

Its not the first time Coran has spoken of this Alfor, nor of creatures Lance has never heard of, using words he long since has grown accustomed to figure out with the context given. He hears every story, and watches the expressions his friends take, and hurts to know that they too hold pain in their hearts, for something Lance is not allowed to grasp for whatever reason. So instead he distracts, with human curiousities and questions and weaved tales of his own. Coran loves his inquisitive nature, Romelle finds humor where she can and has something that shines in her eyes when he puts something together- he'd put anything together, fix anything, if only to see them all happy- and Allura acts aloof at times, but she loves learning and new things and arguing with Romelle until they both laugh so hard it hurts.

So even for a moment, these human things, bring them together. Things that may or may not be true, that raise so many questions that he hopes and prays to one day find the answers to. He'll collect it all, in the hopes of a future where he can be free to do something with the whirlpool of thoughts inside him. To go, to learn, to enjoy, to explore, to know.

He sticks another object in his bag, Coran dangling from it with one arm as most of the others search the floor,

"I do wonder why the sharks like these ships, never had a clear conversation with one you see, even the evolved ones, their heads seem to be in the foam sometimes, never know what theyre thinking." Coran picks up a piece of ship, examines it, then throws it already looking for something new, his query seemingly random but somehow something Lance too wondered about.

"Well, if I was like my father, I'd say they're trying to figure out how these ships work so they can better take them down." Lance rolls his eyes at this, fingers skimming over a depiction of a human. "But maybe they just like how it looks, its pretty interesting after all."

Lance had met a couple sharks in his day, he found them pretty interesting actually, but he understood how hard it was for them to find food now-a-days. And when youre always moving, they must be starving, so he respected them, gave them a good distance.

Much like with his interest in humans, Lance understood that he couldnt interact with them. For all Sendaks hate, Lance was not stupid enough to believe that he wouldnt be attacked if he did something wrong. With sharks, you could find a few that didnt want to kill you. Humans too, Lance was almost positive there had to be some that wouldn't find him a monster... there had to be.

He startles when he catches movement out of his peripheral, turning to find a large mirror. His expression is tight, and he's quick to smooth it out, he needed to be more careful with what he let his face show.

"Oh, and whats that?" He follows Corans gaze to see, what looked to Lance, a mini trident.

He uses a delicate hand to pick up the object, inspecting it with wide eyes,

"I dont know, but its wonderful. I bet Romelle has an idea." Lance smiles at Coran, glancing around once more for a last sweep, when the mirror catches his attention once again.

This time however, it is not his own reflection he sees.

Rows of teeth, pale skin, and small but focused eyes. The shark is through the side of the boat before Lance can get out any sound of warning. Hes pulling Coran out of the way, the shark dead set on them, destroying the things in its way to try and keep up.

Lance should have knows this wreck would be called for. Should have searched better, before entering what could be- and obviously was- the territory of a predator.

Every turn they take, every time Lance is sure they've lost him, sharp teeth and splintered ship come from behind or the side or in front and they have to make another hard turn, and he trying to hold on to his bag- where Coran has secured himself tightly so as not to effect Lances mobility- but as they finally exit the interior of the wreck, the shark is bursting out behind them and Lance swears he has a grip but then its gone.

He swims backwards, eyes frantically scanning to locate the Octopus, but the Shark has found him first, heading towards the sea floor. Hes comoflauged against the bag, but a trail of blood follows it, giving away his position.

"Coran!" A quick decision, a half formed plan, has him shoving a container of some sort, watching it hit the Shark who thankfully turns his attention to the larger prey. Lance darts into the ship once more, watching the shark come for him, jaw opened wide, closer..

Closer...

Closer!

The mirror shatters, and the shark becomes stuck in the outer frame.

Heart in his throat from where hes pressed against the inner walls across from said mirror, Lance waits only a moment to ensure hes stuck before darting towards the sea floor. The trail of blood has dispersed- and gods Lance hoped it wasnt serious- but his bag has an extra divet in the sand beside it.

"Coran! Are you alright?"

The orange and blues of his friend slowly return, one arm crossed over his body below his eyes as usual, and his seven others still intact. A small scratch on his head has already stopped bleeding, and Lance breathes a sigh of relief, quickly scooping up his friend, absently grabbing his bag, and swimming away from the wreck. It'd be best to be gone before the Shark made his way free.

Sendak casts a steady look around the crowded room, today's meeting was an important one, gathering the leaders of the seven seas to discuss important matters once a year. That brat should be here, this was one of their most important times, he should be drifting about the room like a ditz and gathering info for him. One job and the useless boy couldnt even do that. He taps his trident once and waits, eye never stopping its steady search.

"You summoned, your Majesty?" Her voice comes from above, the ghost crab gliding down to land on the rock of his throne.

"Where," he pauses to level her with the full strength of his glare, "is the boy?"

To her credit, she appears unfazed by his glare,

"I reminded him of the meeting this morning-"

"I did not ask of this morning." Sendak cuts in, voice low as he once again eyes the room, "find him."

Shes quiet for a moment, "yes, your majesty."

It wasnt hard to find Lance really, Allura practically had a sixth sense for it. Though all she really had to do was go where you werent supposed to, and you'd happen upon the boy. So of course she finds him talking with Romelle, past the territories border, and far closer to the surface than allowed. Still, with Coran's many tentacles latched around Lances arm and Romelle chattering away about whatever it is shes holding, Alluras heart swells with a fondness she cant- or rather doesnt want to- fight.

"Lonce!" She makes her way up to the rock Romelle stands on, eying the human curiousities for only a moment- things change up there so quickly- before leveling the three with a look. "Do you recall what day it is? That thing I told you this morning?"

The way Lances eyes widen- with fear, so much, too much- has her heart hurting.

"The night of the coral moon! Oh gods! Im late! Sorry Romelle! I gotta go!"

Coran has Lances bag and a grip on the rock in the next moment, just in time to brace for Lance's departure. The three watch him go, faces as glum as their animal selfs can accomplish.

"Hows the plan coming?" Allura asks after the (waves by his departure currents what are they called?) calm.

"They are simply waiting for the right moment, and for Haggar to make her move." Coran responds, one of his many arms laying across his face so another can stroke it awkwardly.

"Lets hope we dont have to wait long." Alluras tone is grave, eyes trained on the trail of a young merman, who has no idea what path was laid before him.

Lance was screwed this time for sure.

The Coral Moon gathering was one of the most important tasks Lance had. With so many mers in one place, it was his job to gather any and every bit of information he could, anything that may get his father ahead. It had been the only thing talked about over the past few movements, and the main reason Lance had decided to take a break this morning before the big event... until he lost track of time.

He had succesfully snuck into his room to drape himself in fancy shiny- unnecassary and gaudy, not even tasteful- decorations and such. Anything to make him look like a dumb accessory to the Emporer and be underestimated- though Lance was underestimated even by the man who knew he was more than decor. Sneaking into the event would be a problem though, Lance figured it'd be better to simply act as if he arrived late on purpose, to swim in like a ditz and lazily make his way about the room- anything to delay addressing his Father- and hopefully hear something worth while along the way.

Though worthwhile was relative, and Lance was less of a snitch than his Father trained him to be, but also very good at pretending to be one. The Emperor claimed to see through Lance, and for some things he could- though Lance thinks he simply assumes and who is he to deny the accusations really? But for things like this, Lance had been told by a few that he was an excellent story weaver, and really, thats all gossip was anyway. So long as it pleased Sendak- father, Emperor- it didn't matter.

So long as he could save the lives of a few at the expense of his own safety, it was worth it.

His entrance is met with varying emotions.

By those who follow the Emperor and hang on to his every word, he is greeted with sneers at best, and lascivious leers at worst.

By those who fear him or are simply biding their time, looks of pity or spite. Lance expertly appears non-chalant, like his head is in the sand rather than processing everything fast enough to make his head ache. Most of it was minor gossip, a few idle threats, comments on the food, current events and the likes, but Lance could make that all work.

As he glides closer to the end of the gathering space, he feels a hard stare that he had to stop himself from tensing at. He cant help but drift slower, to delay the inevitable, but he can only stall for so long. He bows to his father and takes his place beside him, swallowing thickly he waits with baited breath.

"Why are you late." The question is barely that, with how much force he puts into the quiet utterance.

"I-"

"Shipwrecks are off limits for a reason."

Lance doesnt know HOW he knows, if it was a guess or if he had more spies than Lance originally thought. For all Lance knew, the shark from this morning could have been in on it. Given, then he'd also know about Coran, and since he never mentions the man, Lance figures its probably a guess. According to Allura, hes pretty predictable like that.

"I was just scouting it out, trying to learn something." Half truths.

"On the most important day of the year, you decide to indulge your human obsession? Are you trying to make me angry?" Lance could tell the crowded room wouldnt keep his father from yelling if they kept this up.

"No Father, I was only-"

"We will talk about this later."

Lance is dismissed as quick as he was addressed to begin with, and the minute the Emperors back is turned to meet with the 'generals' of the other seas, Lance is swimming for his grotto as quick as his tail will take him. If hes in for a punishment anyway, he may as well enjoy his freedom for even a moment.

Training time for the princess! I'm not sure if it's canon or not, but I feel like Lance is the best flyer out of all of them, so it's nice to see that he's the one training Allura up there

He's looking for a bride and destiny led him to Allura apparently, but she's not buying it Now she does after he says he'd never hurt her

Nanny said she wished two young men fought over her, this is probably where the Allurance started I'm an allurance shipper but not for this voltron show so right now I'm only reacting to nanny with heavy judgement

To elaborate,

Not much is spoken about the magical properties in Voltron. Allura's abilities off memory are, energy manipulation, teleportation (wormholing), healing, absorbing quintessence, spiritual abilities.

I never liked that there are supposedly less 'magical' alteans. It's not clear on what determines that, so far the only magical Alteans we know of is Honerva and Allura.

Literally no other Altean has been shown to have magical gifts, including Alfor. So I've decided to change that, to any Altean can master alchemy however it takes many years and meditation to master.

Even then, you wouldn't have the ability to wormhole or manipulate mass amounts of energy the way Allura can. (Wormholing doesn't require magic anymore, rather quintessence or some nuclear energy is required to start it)

After finding Voltron, yes finding Voltron. In my rewrite, Voltron is a entity from a higher dimension, Alfor didn't make it. Because 1, where did the inspirations of Lions even come from. 2, Because I said so.

He's communicated with Voltron, studied the properties of quintessence with Honerva and suddenly he had a crazy idea. He needed to develop a way to make it easier for Alteans to practice alchemy, aside from ritualistic practices and years of studying just to do one task.

Alfor experimented on himself with quintessence from Voltron, then on Allura, but after he saw how crazy Honervas experimenting made her he felt inclined to quit. Of course, he never told anyone and then Alfor dies. (By the waaaay, Allura's mom is dead. She's not relevant to the story anyways)

Already, this literally explains how Allura is able to read the traits from the paladins, or even understand the lions. (Or open a rift to the quintessence field) I understands she's probably learned some stuff from her father but, like cmon.

Slightly off topic but Allura and Lotor still do visit Oriande. It's just not in a white hole and no chosen Altean can only enter. It's just a galactic Bible somewhere in a galactic library. Instead the way to get there is to practice a ritual, both Lotor and Allura learn valuable information from their ancestors.

Like I said, this doesn't help with Allura's abilities, instead she has to go to Voltron for that.

In general Alteans have the ability to heal, like small wounds, glow instead of camouflage, nurturing, can control their body temperature. They practice ancestral worship, lucid dreaming and rituals.

Allura is 100% a science experiment, because there's no reason why she's so powerful.

At least in my version she is a science experiment conducted by Alfor, inspired by the work Honerva was doing. Although nobody knows just how far and wide Alluras abilities can expand, not even her ancestors. It's up to her to figure it out.

The best teacher around is none other than Lotor, who oddly doesn't want to exploit Allura for her gifts. It only inspires him in his conquest to gain control for the universe.

I read the play ask and now my brain is obsessing over a potential plot lines… I feel like because the Galra value honor they would probably respect their enemies more than humans tend to, so the Paladins are definitely still the villains of play but they aren’t demonized and are rather personable because of respect. This puts Lotor in the protagonists role for the play, and judging by how much the Galra seemed to enjoy his speech after defeating Throk, he’d probably be portrayed pretty heroically! Now I can’t decide if the general plot line should be about Lotor being coaxed over to the enemy side by Keith’s wiles in a sort of “fall from grace” tragedy storyline or if it should be the reverse where Keith is won over to the hero side by Lotor’s affections and charms, which would be funny considering how Lotor considered whisking away the Marmora’s littlest blade in the beginning of LB! Or maybe they just run away together semi-Romeo and Juliet style…

So long as their enemies are deemed to fight with honour, the galra definitely respect them as warriors! Rather than the paladins being villains per say, I think they’d be represented more as noble antagonists with the only true villain being King Alfor’s wicked spawn: Allura. After all, she knows the truth of the tragedy that was the Sa Tskept, and has concealed it from Voltron’s chosen paladins so as to manipulate them to her own ends. And I’m utterly obsessed with the idea of “Lotor being coaxed over to the enemy side by Keith’s wiles in a sort of ‘fall from grace’ tragedy storyline,” so why not combine that with the idea of the righteous yet exiled imperial prince as the hero:

Due to the wicked Altean Princess’ misdeeds, Emperor Zarkon was fed falsehoods about his son and heir, and so Prince Lotor is exiled. He goes to Voltron to confront her, but upon learning of how terribly she has mislead the noble Paladins of Voltron, Prince Lotor takes it upon himself to ingratiate himself to the enemy so that he might right their wrongs from the inside out. In doing this, he meets Keith; an honourable Blade of Marmora who once piloted both the red & black lions, but was ousted by Princess Allura when he began to question her orders and uncover the truth of the Sa Tsekpt... So though they are enemies at first- though it seems as if the Prince has been seduced by the Marmoran Paladin- though for a moment all seems lost-

It is revealed that both Keith and Lotor are in Voltron’s inner circle for the very same reason: to rid the universe of Alfor’s daughter, and return Voltron to Emperor Zarkon’s guiding hand for the betterment of the Empire.

Voltron Band/YouTuber AU

Allura is the daughter of Alfor, who owns the company ‘Altea’. They handle huge bands and music groups. She is going to succeed Alfor when he eventually retires, however, Allura does not desire to take over the company and, instead, wants to manage a band. Alfor does not believe she will be able to live comfortably as a manager of a band. In order to prove she can, she gathers five different YouTubers and forms a band with them. She has two years to make them as popular and as successful as she can, with at least 2 million subscribers on YouTube. Obviously, two years isn’t enough time, so she picks YouTubers who already have a following, though they’re all under 500k, as she was restricted by Alfor. In the end, she picks Shiro, Keith, Hunk, Lance and Pidge to establish a band, Voltron.

And, of course, because they're YouTubers already, they're not gonna stop at just music. Cue a shit ton of shenanigans, Kallura, Lancelot, and shit ton of Adashi. (BTW, I'm listing things by age order, not favourites. If I were, I would have started with Keith and Allura.)

His YT channel is mostly playing horror games. It’s hilarious because new viewers look at him and think he’s going to handle everything really well, but this guy is such a baby. He’s like twenty-three, but he screams and jumps five feet into the air at a can falling from the shelf in a video game. Sometimes he’ll get a notification in the middle of a tense moment and will scream like no other. 463k subs. Sometimes streams on twitch, but usually uses YouTube. After a terrifying gameplay, like res, he’ll play a softer game like Minecraft or Ratchet & Clank.

Do not let him near a sad game - he will cry, and you will cry seeing it. He once played The Last of Us on recommendation and cried for the rest of the video when Sarah died. He had to stop the video early because of this, and nobody has recommended a sad game since.

Before the video ended, Keith calls out Shiro’s name, and Voltron fans took this and used it as further ‘evidence’ that there was something going on between them. Again, this was shot down without hesitation.

Lead guitarist/vocals. His voice is gruff, and he can reach the low and high notes, which makes his voice so fucking suitable for the rock genre. His vocals are the best in the band, with Lance coming in second, and then Keith. As stated previously, he’s quite emotional, and he uses this to his advantage, connecting to the songs on an emotional level. Sometimes, he’s even the one writing them. When he and Keith work together, expect many, many tears, or much empathetic anger.

He’s fluent in Japanese and English, and only half-so in Korean. He only started learning Korean a year before the story starts, so he’s only confident in writing and reading, not conversations. Keith is helping. Whenever he’s super scared, he screams in Japanese.

He was once accused of being a weeb and just went, “I’m Japanese, aho”.

He got into a car accident on the way to the concert and ended up with a fractured collarbone. He gets physio, but in his absence, he has Keith led the team, but he does have Lance on lead vocals.

Weak for Disney and love songs. He posted a cover of ‘you’re welcome’ on his channel, and it’s one of his most famous pre-Voltron videos. It’s also one of the reason’s Allura scouted him.

Engaged to a still-alive Adam because I am NOT A COWARD, VOLTRON--!! He and Adam are very happy together. Because they're both gorgeous and of age, people have taken to thirsting over both of them. Adam laughs it off, but Shiro gets a bit jealous, but not possessive. Fuck that toxic shit.

This is only one of the reasons he was disgusted by the idea of ‘Sheith’. Other reasons are that Keith is literally nineteen, and he’s twenty-three; Keith is his little brother - adopted, but still; Keith is demi-aroace. Need I go on?

Keith:

Keith’s YouTube channel consists of conspiracy videos, analyses and theories. Occasionally, when he’s bored and CBA to go through the whole recording-editing process, he just live streams whatever’s on his mind. Because there’s no script, his streams tend to be about three hours, but most people end up watching the entire thing and get their mind blown. 337k subs. Strictly YouTube - no twitch. He has a naturally angry face, so most think he’s a hothead, but he’s such a softie.

He did a stream about why Hippos are the superior animal while hugging a hippo plushie. He was a bit sick and wasn’t thinking clearly, but he changed the mind of so many people because he was so fucking cute--

BuzzFeed and the like use him a source because he’s that fucking reliable and fast

Shiro’s adopted younger brother, but nobody really knows this. When they start gaining popularity, someone digs an old video of Shiro walking in frame in the middle of Keith’s video in just briefs and a tank top and people began speculating that Shiro was dating a fucking nineteen-year-old and they both shot that down because ew. (BTW, you can ship Sheith if you want, but, in this AU, they're adopted brothers, so it's disgusting here.)

Keith has PTSD from his foster homes before the Shiroganes take him in. When he’s sick and feverish and someone speaks loudly or looks somewhat mad, or if he does something wrong, even by accident, he’ll slip and start calling people sir or ma’am. He’ll hide in closets if he thinks he’s in danger, but he hates being forced or pushed into a closet. He takes the topic of abuse and mental health very seriously.

Autistic baby.

Just because he’s demi-aroace, it doesn’t mean this guy isn’t smooth as FUCK. He teaches Lance how to flirt properly, after he’s got past finger guns, a grin, and an overplayed pick-up line. When he gained feelings for Allura, you bet your arse, he flirted his way into her heart. (Little did he know, Allura already had underlying feelings for him, the flirting just helped reveal them--).

He’s the bass/rhythm guitarist, but he can play literally any instrument he deems interesting enough. He’s also very good at singing, though his tone suits solemn songs mostly, and he isn’t as good as Shiro or Lance in their genre of songs. He can also dance very well. Legit, this man can play: bass (obvs), guitar (acc & elec), piano, harmonica, the stylophone, a fucking kazoo, and even the violin. Most people think he doesn’t have the patience for any of these instruments, but they’re so wrong. He once mentioned this in a stream, and Allura snatched him up without hesitation. A man of actions, not words, but when those words are written, expect a lot of tears.

Keith actually has a lot of patience - he’s just passionate. He doesn’t have anger issues, stop assuming he has, you DICKHEADS--

Keith is legit a genius. This guy knows five and a half different languages. He’s fluent in English, Korean, Japanese, French, Latin (bc all the ancient texts are in Latin) and is half-fluent in Spanish. He can write in all of them, but is unsure about speaking in Spanish. (Lance helps him because toxic friendship = NO).

This is his voice. Listeeen. (Also, I'm crying. One of the comments for the first link says, 'im crying oml, Glenn singing this to Maggie. and keith singing this to mothman').

Hunk:

He has a cooking/baking channel, of course. He’s so fucking sweet, omg. 498k subs bc he deserves it. Gets Lance to taste most of his dishes, but Pidge gets the desserts/sweets. This man has legit been complimented by Ramsey - he’s that good. When he isn’t cooking/baking, he’s reacting as others cook, and his reactions are so fucking funny. Basically, he’s Uncle Roger.

Jamie Oliver brings him unsettling amounts of rage and fury. Gordon is his favourite chef, but he yells a lot and Hunk’s anxiety says NO.

He doesn’t livestream, but he joins Lance’s streams and plays all sorts of games w/ him. He was scouted bc, Lance bragged about Hunk’s drumming skills for Hunk in a stream, while also bragging about his own musical skills. Hunk is flustered, but he doesn’t exactly deny it.

Hunk, as stated previously, can play the drums, and is the drummer. He writes a lot of the softer songs, and those are the songs that people listen to feel better rather than vent. He can play the saxophone and the tuba, but not expertly. Yet. You bet your ass Allura is pushing all sorts of lessons on him when she learns this, and, before you know it, Hunk is being offered freelance orchestra positions.

Hunk is fluent in Samoan, English and is half-fluent in Spanish bc of Lance. He knows certain words in all sorts of languages, but that’s just because of his multicultural cooking. He also knows Go, Python and JavaScript.

Hunk has been offered the position of head chef, but he always turns it down because he doesn’t want to turn his passion into a job. It’s easier to manage with YouTube. Plus, he doesn’t like being confined to a set menu or genre. And he can’t eat what he’s cooked after as a chef in the industry. Plus, he can’t handle the pressure.

Has 100% arm wrestled the entire cafeteria in school for an entire tiramisu and won.

Anxiety mainly, but he’s so sweet, and he knows how to handle people - he just thinks too much and is very queasy. Almost threw up in his first video because of his anxiety. He gets over it, eventually, through exposure and Lance.

Lance thinks their friendship is a bit unfair because he relies on Hunk a lot, but Hunk disagrees. He needs Lance as much as Lance needs him, or even more. If it weren’t for Lance, Hunk would still be scratching his arms until it bled because of anxiety. If it weren’t for him, Hunk would still be unable to look at even a phone camera without feeling like he needed to throw up. Maybe Lance doesn’t know this, but it’s fine, because it happened anyway.

Lance:

He posts a lot of beauty videos, and sometimes gives commentary about crime, like Bailey Sarian, or just about whatever’s on his mind. Fans love him for more than just how pretty/handsome he is. Lance talks a lot about sensitive topics and handles it really well. He’s firmly against stuff like homophobia, transphobia, racism and so on. He doesn’t get overly emotional unless it really strikes home, like self-worth, anxiety and what it was like growing up poor. 435k subs.

Live streams on twitch mostly, but sometimes does YouTube. Twitch streams are gaming ones, which get way more views than his YT streams. YouTube streams are usually just him talking to chat. He hums and sings a lot in these, which is how Allura knew to scout for him.

ADHD, anxiety and lack of self-worth. He gets better, don’t worry.

Lance loves the water and took free diving lessons. He can go five minutes forty seconds without air at the bottom of a pool. He likes rain, but he hates drizzles as they keep making him flinch, and it’s uncomfortable.

A lot of people ship him with Keith, but this died down after Lance expressed discomfort with being shipped. He had to explain that he is bisexual, and it’s not because Keith is a guy, it’s because everyone from the band is like family to him, and it goes against his very being to be shipped with them.

Lance is the rhythm guitarist and can sing very, very well. He’s the second best in the group. He can play the guitar, acc & elec. He acts like he can dance, but he is so bad, somebody, stop him--!! He gets better, don't worry. He also knows how to play a launchpad, because of course he does, and a kazoo.

He’s fluent in English and Spanish. He’s the one to sing Spanish songs, like Despacito. He’s excited when he hears that Keith is learning Spanish and gets Hunk to learn Spanish too. When he’s really excited, he ends up speaking Spanish and confuses most people, but it’s adorable anyway.

Acts like he’s the smoothest guy ever, but he really isn’t. He’s so awkward and has no idea what he’s supposed to do. He has to be taught by Keith, of all people. It takes him a while, but after Keith seamlessly flirts with Galra employees, Lance ends up asking him right after they get the information they need and meet Lotor and the gang. He’s a bit oblivious.

Met Hunk in first year of middle school, and they’ve been besties since. He usually goes to Hunk if he’s feeling a bit sad or emotional. Hunk knows how to handle his anxiety attacks and knows when to tell Lance if he’s done something wrong or crossed a boundary. Because of his ADHD, for a long while, Lance thought the worst of people and suffered from extreme paranoia. This settled down when he started going to therapy and taking medication. He doesn’t need medication any more, but he takes it when he has a bad day.

His voice is so goood, but he's an asshole...!!

Pidge:

Vlogging central. Their channel is full of random, spur of the moment recordings of their life with Matt, Sam and Colleen. They prank Matt a lot, and Matt tends to prank them while they’re recording. They’ve accidentally walked in on Matt getting worked up over an Otome and nobody lets it go. Sometimes, Pidge catches Keith and Matt cuddling, or Shiro and Matt freaking out over a horror film. 327k subs.

Streams a lot of gaming, and they use IG for instalive for vlogging-type streams. They only use twitch if Lance and/or Hunk invite them to play. They’re a master at video gaming and always beat them in smash and the like.

A lot of people though they were a guy before, in an instalive, they were like, “Nah, I’m nonbinary, and I go by they/them pronouns” and Matt jumped in with, “and you’re biologically female, so they’re wrong in all possible ways lol”. So many people were shooketh.

Pidge is the pianist. They can play the keyboard, mainly, but can also play the flute. Their vocals are mediocre, so they’re not really relied on for singing, like Hunk. They reveal this when Matt gets them to play for the video, and they play Lavender Town from Pokemon.

They’re very much multilingual, like Keith. They’re fully fluent in English, Italian, Spanish, French and Russian. They’ve recently started learning Polish and can only write thus far. If you include computer languages, then they’re also fluent in Scala, Python, C, Go and JavaScript. They want to learn Japanese and get Shiro and Keith to teach them.

Pidge has collaborated a couple of times to create websites for popular YouTubers, but despite being credited, they don’t get much recognition or attention. They create the website for Voltron when they start to gain popularity. At some point, a game company reaches out to them and requests aid to program their game, and Pidge is ecstatic and works freelance for them on the side.

They’re aroace and bond with Keith over being ace. When they told this to Lance and Hunk the first time, they had to create a whole ass PowerPoint about what it meant. This PowerPoint was what led Lance to question his own sexuality. In the end, they were both very supportive.

Pidge knows everyone pre-Voltron, apart from the Alteans. Matt was besties with Shiro and Keith, so they met them that way, and they met Lance and Hunk at comic con. They usually talk with Keith in French for the lols and to piss everyone off.

They were the most hesitant about Voltron, but caved in the end after feeling the rush after their first performance, even though it was private and a spur-of-the-moment thing, courtesy of Shiro. (Lemonade Mouth who?? lol).

Allura:

Allura is the daughter of Alfor, who owns the company ‘Altea’. They handle huge bands and music groups. She is going to succeed Alfor when he eventually retires, however, Allura does not desire to take over the company and, instead, wants to manage a band. Alfor does not believe she will be able to live comfortably as a manager of a band. In order to prove she can, she gathers five different YouTubers and forms a band with them. She has two years to make them as popular and as successful as she can, with at least 2 million subscribers on YouTube. Obviously, two years isn’t enough time, so she picks YouTubers who already have a following, though they’re all under 500k, as she was restricted by Alfor. In the end, she picks Shiro, Keith, Lance, Pidge and Hunk to establish a band, Voltron.

Because of her prestigious background, Allura was taught aikido just in case anyone tries to harm or kidnap her. While aikido is a self-defence form of martial arts, she is plenty capable of starting fights if anyone wrongs her or her family/friends.

She grew up with Romelle, who she met at a private middle school. Allura only found out about the others because of Romelle, who prefers niche and smaller YouTubers whose following aren’t big enough to be overwhelmingly toxic. They banter so much that it actually shocks the others when they see their interactions because of how rude they are to each other. Basically, it’s British banter, where they take jabs at literally everything and that’s how you know they’re family. Romelle is actually the one to get her to realise that she loves Keith.

When she joins, Allura gets on them vocals, able to sing both high and low, though not baritone. Her voice is literally the most soothing thing ever. She debuts with 'Would you be so kind?' which fans adored. Her best moment, however, is when she sung Sweater Weather w/ Keith. This is the song that made her begin to realise that she has some sort of feelings towards Keith. It was also the song that cemented Keith’s feelings towards her and made all the haters, who’d been opposed to Allura joining, shut the fuck up.

The only real vendetta Allura has against Galra Entertainment is due to a rivalry. In the past, Altea and Galra had been one entertainment company, but Zarkon got too big for his own good and split the company in half, with Alfor as Altea’s head and Zarkon as Galra’s head. The other three in their band/company ended up going into different careers. Trigel became an audio engineer. Blayzt became a casting manager. Gyrgan became a cinematographer. Allura is still close to them, but only because they care about them and show that they do. Zarkon does not, which is why she does not like him.

Voltron:

Voltron’s definition: A group of things that are more powerful when combined. Fandom is known as the Voltron Coalition, VoCoal’s, (Vocals). They grow hella fast as all the members are diverse and attractive, sound good, and already have a following. They reach the goal of two million subs in a single year.

They start by uploading covers of classics and then release an original album.

Their instruments are all colour-coded. When Shiro has to take a break on tour, Allura steps in. She takes over Keith’s bass guitar and Keith takes over lead guitarist and vocals, but Lance is the one taking on the heavy and hard vocals. Allura can also sing very well and ends up joining Voltron instead of replacing. She doesn’t play a set instrument, but she has the missing feminine vocals.

Allura is the manager, but Coran takes over for her when she expresses a desire to perform and because of popular demand after she sings Sweater Weather w/ Keith, (the KHS ver).

Their YT channel, Voltron, is solely for music, trailers and announcements/updates.

They have a second channel, Paladins, where they upload basically anything, as long as it isn’t a sole thing or something for their channel alone. Pidge is in charge of vlogs, Shiro and Lance are in charge of gaming, Keith is in charge of explaining songs/MVs, and Hunk is in charge of feel-good videos and comps.

Hunk often hosts huge cook offs/bake offs, and he’s the referee. Keith’s the only one who can actually cook, (because he had to learn or else he’d never get to eat), so whoever’s on his team often ends up both learning and winning. Lance can only sort of cook from being with Hunk for so long. Adam cooks for Shiro, who's been banned from the kitchen after burning a boiled egg, and Pidge’s parents cook for them. Baking is usually fifty-fifty, but you have a better chance with Lance on your team.

Keith spends literal hours just making the script when he has to explain songs even if it’s his own songs, but the videos are always huge hits or emotional, so he deems it as worth it. Their editor takes a while to send videos back because they either get super riled up or they burst into tears. At one point, Keith details some things he went through in one of his foster homes as a source of his writing material, and they didn’t get the video back for a week. Curtis, their editor, made sure to give Keith a vanilla milkshake and some strawberry shortcake. After that, Curtis gets emotional every time he sees Keith. He’s not the only one.

Shiro and Lance hold meetings, no joke, to decide what game they should play. Some multiplayer games Lance suggests have very emotional scenes, and Shiro can’t handle those. But, some multiplayer games Shiro proposes are generic and played to the point of death. There are also times when they get someone to play a single-player game and Lance has to warn Shiro ahead of time when there’s a sad/emotional scene. He forgets once, and Keith freaks out and almost breaks the camera to calm Shiro down.

Pidge doesn’t warn anyone when they’re recording, unless it’s in the studio. They just barge in with a camera and everyone is just like, ‘oh, so this is happening now?’. Because of the new proximity, Pidge can capture more pure crack. This is not an exaggeration. They record Keith dropping a pen and jumping five feet in the air like a cat, Shiro belting Let it Go when he thought he was alone, Hunk and Lance re-enacting Obi-Wan vs Anakin on the kitchen counter with bread sticks, Allura’s clothes falling on her when she opened her wardrobe, and Coran hanging upside down from the ceiling. In return, Hunk caught Pidge asking where their glasses are while wearing them and also asking where their phone is while on it, so many times that there are now comps.

Everyone was worried after Kallura became official and public, but the reception was amazing, and they genuinely love each other. (Lance gets jealous a bit, but not because he has a crush on either of them. He’s just lonely and-- Oh, look, there’s Lotor).

After Lancelot becomes a thing, the fandoms unite and double their followings. Also, Generals appear more often in Paladins videos. The BOM are mad about Galra and Altea being connected in such a way, but Keith sort of scowls at them, and they just shut up.

Quick Notes:

Shiro is 23, Keith is 19, Hunk + Lance are 18, Pidge is 17, Allura is 19, Coran is 40.

The Galra are a rival entertainment industry with Zarkon as the CEO, Haggar as the EA, and their most famous group being the Generals, (Lotor, Acxa, Zethrid, Ezor, Narti).

The BOM are a group of pre-Galra recruits who left due to how toxic the workplace was and started an orchestra. (At some point they invite Keith to join them as his mother was part of their group before she died. He temporarily joins them as a violinist when Thace is shanked and robbed in an alley.)

Allura offers to pay for a year of any lesson they need or want to bribe them, other than exposure, and they all take it.

Keith and Shiro can ride motorbikes, and Lance really want to learn.

Pidge and Hunk share a love of computer science. Hunk likes building computers. Pidge prefers coding. But, they both love programming and even dabble in hacking.

First of all, I love your art and thank you a lot for introducing me to Voltron as both series and fandom. Secondly, could you possibly tell us more about Maaliv and Coran jr? What kind of personalities they are? What happened to them and their specie after defeat of Altea? Can they still remember their uncle Coran? And how much their current age of 10 000+ is in human terms? I mean are they old enough to have one leg in grave or are they physically closer of middle aged human?

Let’s go ask that has been sitting for gosh how long in my drafts. LET’S GO!

Maaliv is older by a few minutes. Though born with Vaamal’s full pattern, when they get older, they will develop some similar patterns to their other parent. A few brown and white markings compared to Coran Jr. who retains Vaamal’s full colouring their whole life and has Vaamal’s pink eyes. Maaliv will grow taller than both their parents where Coran Jr. get stuck in between their heights.

Maaliv and Coran Jr. were born on the Castleship. It was revealed that Vaamal was pregnant for a longer time than a majority on the Castleship were aware of. And her maternity leave was like near the due date. Which when Alfor learns about, feels so bad about it. But it’s cool, their species super toughen up during pregnancy’s (to protect the cubs) and the reason why Vaamal didn’t make it clearer to not to worry them (also fun to see their reactions ‘Newsflash! I’ve been pregnant this entire time!’).

As cubs, Maaliv would peck more at anything and anyone. Coran Jr. had a tendency on climbing up everything and anyone and then taking a long nap with a vice grip.

As grownups, Maaliv would become the chief of their area. They are patient, laidback and a leader. But that can be dropped at a hat if everything’s taken care off and nothing needs their attention, then it’s time to go and have fun with whatever someone suggested to them. 

Coran Jr. is more lively and strong curiosity to all things. Which can end up poking at something that might blow up in their face. They pursue in the art and inventor area.

Their home planet did not fall to the Empire and are able to fend off any attacks. Though more to its planet’s size, environment, It’s location with the system and the size of it. Very vast, VERY BIG. Just attempting to enter the system if not experienced is extremely dangerous. And other factors. The planet is well and safe and are helping with support to fight the Empire as they can.

Though they strong and long-life span creatures. A majority are unable to space travel because of the complications that effects their biology (a big major problem is the zero gravity) so present, only a small portion can space travel that are immune to the usually negative effects or able to eventually adapt to it (they are researching on how to overcome these problems more accessible for the rest).

Even though they were very young when they last saw Coran and Allura, they had imprinted on them as family members, and they are able to recognise them anytime. They also had stories, from their other parent and from others and the information that is passed through the universe. In present time and with the idea I had where the gang end up on Vaamal’s planet. The twins are fully grown adults, nearing to their senior years.

Where shapeshifting isn’t the only trick up alteans’ sleeves.

Basically, this is an au where, among their other abilities, alteans can fuse SU style. They’re a diplomatic species, and so as well as being able to fuse amongst themselves, they can do so with those from other planets. It’s just easier to both initiate and hold when they’re both altean. 

-The first people Allura sees fuse are her parents. The dance is magnetising, effortlessly elegant, so different from the stiff dances from Altea she’s used to, such a departure from tradition. It comes straight from the heart, from their very being, their quintessence aligning perfectly to form a person so wholly new, yet familiar, those eyes loving and kind in the way she had known her parents to be. 

-She decides, right then and there, she will find herself a bond like that, someone who will dance with her and make sparks fly across the dance floor. She wants what her parents have, a fusion like Melfor, born of love and trust. 

-Then she sees Coran fuse with Alfor, a dance somewhat more traditional, but no less loving, that unconditional trust in those eyes there as Alran forms. As Allura will later learn, any fusion Coran’s part of will include a moustache. Always. No exception. Even when Allura eventually fuses with him, a boundless rush of energy in her veins, popping and crackling, their fusion is not exempt from this rule.

-Coran has fused with both Melenor and Alfor at the same time. They are the ultimate parent to Allura.

-Coran and Allura fuse into Cora after cryosleep, when the paladins have retrieved the lions and they are alone and bound by their grief. It doesn’t last long, and the unfuse when they realise what is happening. It’s doubly crushing, but with it, what sticks with them is the small sense of comfort, knowing that they have each other.

-Coran has so many tales to tell about his past fusions (they’re all gone now. Will never exist again). 

-Coran doesn’t really fuse anymore. But if he did, you just know a fusion between him Pidge and Hunk would be an engineering wizard. 

-Fusions speak a medley of whatever languages are in their brains. You don’t notice it with the universal translators on though.

-They also gain their own accent.

-They can also wield their normal paladin weapons + their own special fusion one.

-The first paladin Allura fuses with is Shiro. (Lance has a sexuality crisis when he first looks at Shallura but that’s neither here nor there). She’s known the paladins for a while at this point and is steadily warming up to them, steadily gaining hope and trust in them. They’re not much yet, but one day they will be. Hopefully. At least Shiro seems dependable. 

-Their fusion feels strong, a true leader, the only responsible one in the room ™. 

-Still only one flesh arm.

-Shallura also has a bottomless well of material for their gallows humour. Please don’t let them participate in standup comedy.

-So much PTSD from the galra.

-Most likely of the fusions to give a lecture.

-They’re the first fusion the team meet, and for a second Keith goes through all the stages of grief thinking they’ve lost Shiro again. “What have you done with Shiro?!”

“Keith, I’m right here. Kind of.”

-Hunk, Pidge and Lance absolutely want a turn afterwards. Pidge is interested because science ™ and Lance for reasons his two friends will tease him about.

-Pidge is very younger sibling in Shallura’s eyes. Shiro’s protectiveness over Matt’s sister and Allura’s want to become closer to the only other girl on the team meshes. Pidge gets free piggybacks (she acts like a disgruntled cat about this).

-Keith has no idea how to act around them. Sometimes he starts treating them like Shiro, then catches himself. It makes Shallura feel a little put out, having known Keith for so long, so much trust built up there (well, with Shiro anyway). They just want him to be comfortable around them. 

-Knowing Keith the way Shiro has helps soften the revelation of Keith being part galra (also by fusing with Keith herself later on).

-When fusing with Kuron, something feels so unimaginably off, though Allura can’t quite place it. It leaves her with a slight headache in her head afterwards, almost like someone was whispering to her. Kura (Kuron and Allura) fusion doesn’t happen many times, and those fusions don’t last. Kuron is hesitant to fuse, but doesn’t know why.

-Bayard form is a rapier. Because why not (the reason I’ll use for all bayard forms I give). Or maybe just another form of sword. 

-Hunk, ever friendly Hunk, is Allura’s next fusion. He’s determined to create a dish that reminds her of home, only with their limited ingredients at the time he’s struggling to even make food that tastes like his own home. He’s unfamiliar with what is out here, so far out in space. But, eventually, he gains an eye for picking out ones that are edible and won’t give you a nasty space rash. And, with the help of coran, makes a flan that somewhat tastes like altea as it once was. It’s not exact, but the dish is filled with so much heart, so much flavour, that she’s thankful nonetheless. 

-They fuse as she hugs him in thanks.

-Ank or Hura??? Is somehow more disney princess than Allura. They will give those little guys as many baths as their heart desires. They are also the first fusion out of the paladins that gets photographed because they love taking silly selfies with the mice.

-Has made the mice blanket burritos because they’re cute.

-Will kill you with kindness.

-Ultimate diplomat. Not only will they win you over with words, but also food. 

-(After Allura becomes a paladin) They’re two legs!!! Team leg!

-The mix of Allura’s tastebuds and Hunk’s gives them a strange palette. Yes, they know logically that space chocolate should never be mixed with space mustard and argleberries and yellolian pie. But wouldn’t it be interesting to try?

-Ank won’t let anyone try those dishes though. They know that would be considered a disgrace to cooking.

-They get on well with Pidge and end up helping her through the altean language simulator once they realise she has an interest in learning. 

-When unfusing with Allura, Hunk eventually realises that a few altean words do stay in his brain even without the universal translators.

-As comforting as the fusion is, being Ank does heighten insecurities about winning this war. It’s best to fuse when neither of them are in a downwards spiral.

-Has a very, very large fear of loneliness.

-As Allura’s relationship with Lance ends up improving, it reflects in his friendship with Ank. “It’s like having two best friends in one!”

-Bayard form is some sort of grenade launcher. 

-Pidge has had less walls up for a fair while now that the secret of her identity is out, so, though a little hesitant, she really wants to try this fusion thing. She knows she’s not the best at people, which is another reason why she’s interested in this. It’s like a shortcut, a hack into the system. Instant bonding. Only they don’t fuse right away, that ridiculous dance seeming like it was all for nothing. 

-But you can’t force a fusion. Like bonding with a lion, it requires trust.

-Eventually Allura and Pidge bond over talking about family. Allura becomes even more determined to help find Pidge’s brother and dad. If Allura can’t have her family anymore, at least she can help Pidge find hers.

-Pallura is incredibly smart, and whilst Pidge’s understanding of altean tech is way above average, fusing with Allura gives Pallura that extra edge.

-Sometimes the need to see her family is debilitating. 

-She’s pretty insane about Monsters & Mana.

-Bayard form is a chakram. Or perhaps a flail?

-Give her a crossword or space puzzle cube any day.

-Matt is so confused when he first meets her. 

-Palunk/Hillura/Hida (think I like Hillura more?) is Allura’s first three person fusion and they don’t stay fused for long because of it. 

-Kallura first fuse when they both try and run away to stop Zarkon tracking the team. 

-The team finds out when on that call.

-“You fused with Allura before me?!!!”  - Lance

-Lance is upset about Kallura having a mullet. “You’re better than this!” He’s very conflicted on how to interact with them. On one hand, they’re Keith. On the other, they’re Allura. But they are also both and neither.

-Their bayard is a rope dart.

-Kallura has a lot of suppressed anger from grief. Bottling up and compartmentalising works for them until it doesn’t. They feel things so intensely.  

-they feel like a ticking time bomb at times but do not want others to see that. -They just end up unfusing if that happens.

-Nevertheless, Keith appreciates the fusion, finding it difficult to connect with people, so it’s meaningful when he does. 

-Keith and Allura end up with a stronger bond because of this. 

-Stick them in bubblewrap and save them from themselves. They are prone to self sacrifice. Please stop.

-Later, upon that revelation ™ , Allura doesn’t know how to feel about fusing with someone who is part galra.

-But Keith is Keith.

-Their fusion’s thoughts were genuine. So maybe, just maybe, Keith’s are too. 

-Lotor and her can never quite fuse. They almost get it, both driven by an aligning desire to connect with the lost culture of Altea, and Lotor wants to fuse, he does, it’s something he’d learned of during his research, though he himself couldn’t on his own, but even together it never quite works. Lotor has too many secrets, too many things he keeps hidden to open up enough for a fusion to work.

-Then, as Allura hurls him across the room, she’s ultimately glad they never did (but she has to wonder, what would she have seen, have felt? Would there have been love there, or endless lies?). 

(Heads up for romantic allurance)

-Lallura eventually fuses sometime during s3. 

-Lance grew on Allura after he shielded Coran, but they never really click until they make an effort to do so around the time of the lion swap.

-Lallura is hot and they know it.

-Also very good with people. Lance’s natural peopleing charisma shines through into Lallura. Allura wonders, if she had fused into Lallura earlier on, it would have helped with that outsider feeling when trying to connect to the other paladins. 

-Great at parties. You want Lallura at your social gathering. This skill comes in handy when the paladins need to dress up fancy and interact with diplomats.

-Has a strong sense of homesickness. Both for homes they have never been to (and yet they have).

-Vast majority of the time they’re pretty confident. Mutual belief in each others’ abilities makes for a fusion that knows how to believe in themselves to a healthy degree.

-Though they have caught themselves a few times going into a downwards spiral of imposter syndrome and worry about their capabilities as a leader/paladin. But it doesn’t last long.

-Gives good pep talks. 

-They’re a magpie. Love shinies.

-Don’t talk to them about Lotor. Just. Don’t.

-Through Lallura Lance gets the chance to fly in blue again. 

-Their joint bayard form would either be a grappling hook (Pidge would claim her bayard does it better) or bayonet or maybe bow and arrow like Valayun had??? A crossbow??? I do not know

-They’re Coran’s favourite of the fusions.

-They love tying their hair up the way they used to for their sisters (not sisters. But also are?). 

-Spa day is a very serious matter. Don’t interrupt it.

-Will sleep in if given the opportunity.

-Rachel (Lance’s sister) manages to get a matching jacket with them. They have no idea how when this jacket exists because of fusion.

-Nadia and Sylvio (Lance’s brother’s kids), upon meeting the fusion, request that Allura princessifies them too.

-Allura doesn’t comment on it, but she does start to feel some of the affection Lance feels for her when they fuse, especially as the seasons progress. It takes her aback, its intensity, but it also comforts her. But she’s also conflicted because of her growing crush on Lotor. She also has no idea if what she’s starting to feel for Lance is because of that fusion (it’s not).

-Lance is still very much in denial about Allura liking him back. If they do fuse over the time period of Allura starting to realise her feelings, he will still interpret it as Allura just being her usual caring self. It’s not like he has fused with anyone else to tell the difference.

-The first allurance kiss under that tree ends in them turning into Lallura again. The euphoria of that is short lived, however, once they find out what happened to Luca.

-After Allura sacrifices herself, Honerva tells her she shouldn’t pay for her mistakes with her life. So after aiding Honerva with her alchemy, Honerva immediately sends Allura back to her own universe, right after the sacrifice. 

-Lallura fuse in space, with Lance immediately jumping out of red after her (+ the rest of the team in their respective lions). After almost losing each other like that, it’ll be a very long time until either of them want to unfuse again. As a long term fusion for the meantime, they start going by the name Lure.

-Lance’s family are a little thrown at first, but they adore Lure. They’re basically a bonus family member. 

-Romellura fusion first happens during s7. Rora???? Rura????

-Romelle is the first altean (other than Coran) Allura has seen in a long, long time. Of course these two are bonding quickly.

-And as is this au’s way, they fuse.

-And are overwhelmed with a wave of emotions, happy, sad. The colony, all those alteans, their people still alive. Bandor, the other colony.

-It’s a lot. They lean on each other to process this grief.

-Without the translators, this fusion is a mess of old and new altean colloquialisms.

-She has a rich person accent. Lance loves it.

-A double altean fusion like this bolsters Allura’s alchemical abilities.

-She’s usually seen wearing a hair bun mixed with a plait

-If you thought bringing up Lotor around Lure was bad, well. Definitely, definitely don’t bring him up around her.

-Kallurance would have been pretty unstable had they first fused earlier on. Kurance? Lalith? Laeira? (I think I like the last one).

-But as it is, they make a really good team.

-Pray you never meet an entire team fusion. They won’t last long, too unstable for that (but more stable than you think. Used to working in unison for Voltron), but they don’t need long.

klance x pirates of the caribbean

bc apparently when i'm upset i listen to newsies live and think up weird klance aus

in my head this could go one of two ways:

keith and lance as will and elizabeth

keith and lance as jack and will (i'll explain later)

a lot more under the cut bc i got a bit carried away...

if it follows the canon love story i picture lance as will and keith as elizabeth. (i could see it the other way around bc keith could be the orphan pirate boy but i’ve written too much to go back now).

when they were young, keith was on a ship with his father and he spots lance on a piece of driftwood. they save him ofc and keith spots a jewel necklace around lance's neck. he takes it and later has it fused in the hilt of his mother's knife that is now his.

keith hates being the governor's son with a passion. he hates the formality of it and how restrictive it is. lance is the weaponsmaster's apprentice (that's how he gets good with a gun) and he is always under appreciated! give this guy some recignition!

anyway, he has been silently pining for keith for ages. little does he know, keith kind of likes him too. a lot of mutual pining has been going on for longer than either can recall.

anyhoo, pirates invade the town and kidnap keith. he puts up a fight but in the end he's outnumbered and taken aboard the ship as leverage. he says his surname is mcclain bc it's on his mind. wink wonk. captain of the evil pirates is zarkon and when the pirates who kidnapped keith hand him the knife he realises it is the jewel that can break their spell. since keith uses lance's surname, he also thinks it is keith's blood they need to finish the ritual since lance's family are the one's who sent the jewel away with lance. but it's not. obvs.

lance, after saving a baby, watches keith get taken in horror and tries to call out but is knocked out before he can act. once he's awake he hears that there's a pirate who was caught in the dungeon. that's allura. yes, eccentric captain allura is a choice i am making.

lance manages to break her out of jail, thinking she is one of the evil pirates and he can persuade her to help him. she is not but decides to help him anyway in an attempt to retrieve her ship 'the voltron' from zarkon. the two of them go off on a quest to save keith.

meanwhile, hunk and pidge are guarding keith. they are new recruits to zarkon's crew after their other crew threw pidge out when they discovered she was a girl (silly pirate superstitions). hunk went with her. they are easily persuaded to help keith bc zarkon's a meanie and promise that they'll help him out when they make it to land.

lance and allura arrive on an island and find coran who is allura's closest friend and ally. shiro is also there. he has a peg arm (is that a thing? idk it's a weird mechanism but it does the trick). coran explains that the ship keith is on is cursed and they will be going to the mysterious isle of daibazaal to break the curse.

they get there and watch zarkon attempt to break the curse using the jewel (which he pried out of the blade) and keith's blood. nah, it don't work. they still turn into creepy looking skeletons in the moonlight. damn. he threatens keith and then all hell breaks loose bc lance shoots him. it would have definitely killed zarkon but he can't die bc... the whole undead thing, and in doing so all lance does is reveal their position. they fight a bit, as you do. keith gets hold of a sword and kills three evil pirates in about five seconds. lance falls a little bit in love with him.

in the midst of the battle, lance makes a deal with zarkon that he will stay if keith and the others can go (this now includes hunk and pidge bc they helped keith get free). lance is stripped of visible weapons and zarkon agrees to break the curse immediately. lance cuts his hand and drops the jewel into the chest.

then he grabs keith's jewel-less knife from where it lies beside the chest. zarkon, distracted, doesn't notice until the blade is buried in his gut. he dies. keith and the rest act immediately and kill any other pirates who don't surrender. keith kills an evil pirate about to shoot lance.

they return keith in exchange for allura, coran, shiro, pidge, hunk and lance's pardon. keith expresses his wish not to be governor in the future and allura invites them on 'the voltron' ship with her since she reclaimed it from zarkon. keith and lance then have a moment where they thank each other for saving each other's life. keith thanks lance for coming after him and lance confesses. it's all very sappy and they kiss for ages.

OR

lance is still will. i stand by everything i said about him in the previous version. his parents caused the curse to endure and sent him off. but instead of keith finding him, it's allura. she's the governor's (in this case, alfor's) daughter. she takes the jewel and keeps it as a necklace. lance and allura are more like besties but they're not really allowed to see each other because of their differing classes.

keith arrives and escapes the navy. hides in weaponsmaster’s shop. lance tries to fight him but he’s not as good with a sword as he is with a gun. lots of sassy banter where lance is tryna be noble and keith doesn’t care for it.

anyway, we sort of know what happens. allura gets kidnapped and uses lance's surname bc they had a conversation beforehand. lance stresses, hears about a pirate they captured, assumes it's one of the evil ones he can persuade to help him.

but instead he gets keith who he met earlier. in the time they’ve been apart he’s got himself landed in the dungeon. and he’s notoriously one of the most stubborn, grumy pirate captains in all the seven seas.

he's overall unimpressed with lance as a person and with his plan, only agreeing when he realises he might be able to get his ship, this time called 'the red lion', back. lance decides he's going to prove himself to keith. he doesn't know why he's so offended by a pirate's opinion but he just is. hmmm...

they pick up shiro and coran, pidge and hunk promise to help allura out yada yada yada and they start making their way towards the island.

they run into lotor and his crew (acxa, ezor, zethrid etc) who are unrelated to zarkon and that whole... thing but they're your typical pirates and they want their stuff. which is annoying af bc allura is missing and they have somewhere to be thank you very much.

they put up a good fight. lance has plenty of opportunities to impress keith with his pistol skills. consider keith very impressed and mildly enamoured. but he doesn't do feelings so he stuffs them down inside him as you do. they win and move on. afterwards keith asks lance where he learned those moves and lance tells him stories of his time in the weaponsmaster's workshop. they bond.

they get to the island and find allura. they fight and keith and lance save each other's backs too many times to count. lance has a revelation (inconveniently mid battle) that he actually really likes this. this is fun. this is exciting.

then keith fucks up. he says that he'll hand lance over if zarkon gives him his ship back. lance is fucking fuming and feeling very betrayed and hurt bc he actually felt like he was getting somewhere with keith. keith gets what he deserves though bc zarkon dumps him and allura on an island and takes lance away.

while they're on the island allura knocks some sense into him regarding his life generally and lance specifically. she tells him loads of cute lance-as-a-teenager stories and keith feels awful. he helps her light a signal fire using some rum he has on his person.

they spot the ship alfor sent to find allura. they persuade them to go to where lance and the rest of the crew is. keith tries to act like he's on zarkon's side when they get back to the cave and then he takes one of the cursed jewels so he's now immortal. aha! while this is happening allura has infiltrated zarkon's ship, 'the red lion', so shiro, coran, pidge and hunk can be freed.

allura then frees lance from where they were keeping him in the hull. lance runs to where keith is. they share a look. keith cuts his hand and throws the jewel to lance who does the same and drops it into the water. the curse is broken. keith goes to grab zarkon's sword so he can kill him but zarkon grabs him by the throat. lance shoots zarkon in the side before keith can pass out. he runs to keith who has collapsed. keith apologises and thanks him and promises not to betray him again. lance laughs, says he better not and helps him up.

they return allura safely in exchange for their pardon. keith asks lance to join the crew of 'the red lion' and gives him loads of reasons that are really just disguised compliments. safe to say lance kisses him senseless and they run away together, sailing off into the sunset. bc. klance. there's got to be a sunset somewhere.

Deleted Scenes

In keeping with the theme of Alfor not minding his own business, have an inside look on how the castle kitchens operate!

Also I really liked this bit of writing and didn’t have anywhere to put it in-story

Alfor absolutely knew something was up. Of course, he knew that Keith and Lance were actually, factually married now, in every possible sense of the word. 

He’s not an idiot. He sees the way they cling to each other’s presence, the quiet jokes they share, the silent, communicative glances- granted they kind of did that before, but it just felt different now. Like instead of two harmonious bodies, they’d become fused together into one organism with two interlocking parts.

If it really was only two. They haven’t said anything to the contrary, but Alfor has his suspicions. Keith’s lapsing meal attendance and Lance’s lack of begging for his participation were convincing evidence.

Which is why Alfor’s not surprised when he goes to the princes’ quarters looking for his son and finds the room dark, Keith sprawled across the bed, deeply asleep. Lance isn’t here at all, but there’s a plate of food and a pot of tea next to the fireplace.

Alfor creeps into the room, checks the food. It’s old, the meat a little dry, the vegetables a little wilted. Having nothing else he really feels like doing, the king decides to replace it. It’s almost lunch time anyway.

It’s only when he gets to the kitchen that Alfor realizes he has absolutely no idea where his son-in-law’s food is, or what he eats, or what goes together, or what a balanced Galra meal looks like.

“Um…” Alfor stands there, awkwardly holding a plate of food, as a small army of quietly working kitchen staff all look up at him at once. “I’d like to replace this.”

A quartet of Alteans come up, a small purple badge on the right breast of their purple and white uniforms. One of them takes the plate and immediately starts washing it. Another scrolls through a datapad, offering it to his remaining companions. The other two nod, raid one of the coldboxes, pulling out glass cases of different ingredients. The first cook sets the plate on the drying rack, then invades the cupboards beneath one of the preparation counters.

Alfor watches in awe as what’s apparently Keith’s personal team of chefs prepare him a fully fledged gourmet meal in about fifteen dobashes. When had that happened? Are they being paid more? Should they be paid more? What sort of training did they go through? Have they trained on Daibazaal at all? Should Alfor see about sending them to actually train on Daibazaal?

Well, not right now, obviously. But still.

One of the Alteans hands him a tray with a fresh plate of food and a bowl of stew from the stove. “Um… How long have you been cooking for Prince Yorak?”

“Chef Hunk began training us before the princes’ marriage. We learned a great deal, long-distance, from a chef on Daibazaal and from research we conducted with the help of Princess Allura.”

“I see.”

“Prince Yorak’s nutrition is of serious importance, and therefore so too is our job.”

“Right… Thank you for this. Um. I appreciate your work. Please have Chef Hunk inform me if you require anything from the Crown.”

The quartet bows in unison. Alfor inclines his head, leaves the kitchen wondering what else has been going on right under his fucking nose that he hasn’t heard about.

Back in the bedroom, Keith is gone from the bed, but he can hear water running. Alfor licks his lips, waffling over whether to go or wait for the prince to return. He's not usually welcome around the young Galra, so he sets the tray on the nightstand and leaves.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what Keith’s current condition is. What matters is that Alfor might be able to help.

He can sense that their lives are about to get much harder.
