HOOOBOY, it's been a while. So much stuff has happened this year that I just kind of disappeared. Which means it's time for an update / explanation, and to try to get back into the swing of things.
Got married in the beginning of the year (whoo!) and was buried in paperwork hell for a while. That, plus just the state of everything took a lot of mental energy and I just didn't have a lot to put elsewhere.
Then, when we were on the way to the post office to send off our paperwork, we got t-boned by an absolute asshole and I had to be literally cut out of the car (didn't have seeing the Jaws of Life up close and personal on my bucket list, but here we are). The guy was driving on a suspended license without insurance, and the car wasn't registered to him, which is just delightful. I also got a ticket (which I am contesting) for 'failure to yield' despite the fact that the other guy hit US.
Thankfully, we weren't hurt (and neither was HE; more on that later), and our insurance was able to take care of the car stuff. My car was totaled, we got what it would have been worth, and that's it, right?
WRONG! Friday, my insurance gives me a heads up that the guy who hit us is now 'complaining of aches and pains' and has contacted a lawyer, almost a month after the accident. So while my insurance company is likely going to be handling it (and everyone we've talked to thinks the guy will be laughed out of anywhere), that's hanging over my head too.
And while all of this is going on, my cat knocked down my external hard drive....which is where I have all of my information from several computers backed up. It didn't read at all, so I took it to try to see if it could be fixed or the memory could be pulled from it easily/quickly. But no dice; they had to send it out, and it's still not a guarantee that they'll be able to get my stuff off of it. Which means if they can't, I've lost almost 6 TB worth of stuff that I probably just won't ever be able to recover.
tl;dr: It's been a hell of a year, and I'm gonna try to get back to this because I miss it and everyone.
