[daresplaining]

I know of and respect your dislike of the Daredevil tv series, but I wanted to ask if you might have reading recs to familiarize myself with what the Born Again series is planning. Heather Glenn, Muse, Mayor Fisk, etc. I've read some relevant comics, but I'm not sure if I'm missing something important. What runs and issues might I need to hit? ♥

I mean, listen, "dislike" is a strong word. There was a time when this show was very fun to me. If it were to stop filtering into the comics, and if Marvel stopped treating the other Netflix shows like second-rate afterthoughts, it might become fun to me again. Regardless, I'm always thrilled to help with things like this!

Heather Glenn

Heather was introduced in Daredevil volume 1 #126, when she wandered into her ex-boyfriend's apartment and found Matt living there instead. She became a member of the core Daredevil cast, dating Matt and serving as an assistant at the law firm. She was tragically central in Matt's earliest life-falls-apart storylines, and remained an important recurring character for a span of roughly 80-or-so issues. In other words, she's a pretty big deal, and I'm excited to learn she will be making the leap to the MCU. (Heather's family's company, Glenn Industries, was actually mentioned in Luke Cage season 2. But referencing that would require them to, you know, acknowledge the existence of Luke Cage, so we'll see.)

Heather's appearances include: Daredevil volume 1 #126-132, 134-138, 141-154, 157-160, 165-167, 169, 171, 174-177, 182-186, 189, 195, and 220. In particular, you'll want to check out #147-154 and 182-186, 189.

Muse

Muse was introduced in Daredevil volume 5 #10 as a terrifyingly dangerous antagonist for budding superhero Blindspot/Sam Chung (who was already introduced to the MCU in Iron Fist season 2!), and appeared in issues #10-14 and #596-600 (don't let the high numbers alarm you— this took place during a period when all of Marvel's comics briefly switched to their legacy numbering). Muse is also now being brought back in the current Daredevil: Unleash Hell mini-series starring Elektra.

Mayor Fisk

The "Mayor Fisk" plotline is also from Daredevil volume 5. Volume 5 was the first Daredevil run to come out following the release of the show, which had a noticeable impact on both the writing and art, so it's fascinating to see it now impacting the show in such a big way in return. Truly, a full circle. The initial story arc is covered in issues #595-600, but Fisk remained the mayor all the way through the end of volume 5 and all of volume 6 before finally being defeated in the next election in Devil's Reign— a story that was centered around Mayor Fisk's draconian laws against superheroes.

White Tiger(s)

I've also heard mention of a White Tiger appearance? This is an extremely cool superhero legacy born out of the era of Marvel's kung fu superheroes alongside Shang-Chi, Iron Fist, the Daughters of the Dragon, and the Sons of the Tiger (who are also tied into the White Tiger legacy). The White Tigers wield martial arts mastery and superhuman enhancements channeled from a magical amulet. The first White Tiger, Hector Ayala, was introduced in the Deadly Hands of Kung Fu anthology magazine exactly 50 years ago this year! While definitely a product of its time, DHKF was notable for cultivating and promoting a diverse cast of protagonists, and Hector was Marvel's very first Latino superhero. His origin story begins in #19, at the end of the issue's Sons of the Tiger comic installment, and then continues in #20-24, 26-27, and 29-32. He also appeared in Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man volume 1 #9-10, 18-32, and 49-52, starred in the retrospective story "Pa'lante Juntos" in Marvel's Voices: Comunidades in 2021, and— possibly most relevant, in this instance— was at the center of the Daredevil story arc "The Trial of the Century" (Daredevil volume 2 #38-40).

That story was followed soon afterward by the introduction of the second White Tiger, Hector's niece, Angela Del Toro (who was actually already name-dropped in Jessica Jones!). She appeared in Daredevil volume 2 #59, 65-70, 77-79, 113-115, 119-510, had her own White Tiger mini-series, and has appeared in a few other places as well (notably, Shadowland and New Avengers (2015)). The third White Tiger is Angela's aunt, Ava Ayala, who was introduced in Avengers Academy (2010) #21 and also appeared in Mighty Avengers, Captain America and the Mighty Avengers, and New Avengers (2015), as well as having her own story in Marvel's Voices: Comunidades. (She was also a main character in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon.) Finally, there is another White Tiger, just named "White Tiger", a literal anthropomorphic tiger who was introduced in Heroes for Hire volume 1. She's not connected at all to the previously established White Tiger legacy, and if she somehow gets referenced in this Daredevil show, I will put ketchup on my copy of Mike Murdock's introductory issue and eat it. (But you should read Heroes for Hire volume 1 anyway, because it's really fun.)

Kirsten McDuffie

Is Kirsten also still in this? I recall a time when sources claimed she was in this. Regardless, everyone should read some Kirsten McDuffie comics. They're good for your health. Kirsten was introduced in Daredevil volume 3 #1 and was part of the core cast in all of volume 3, Daredevil: Road Warrior, and volume 4, plus Daredevil: Dark Nights #4-5, then reappeared in Daredevil volume 5 #17-20, Man Without Fear (2019) #2, Daredevil volume 6 #23-24 and a few other scattered issues afterward, Devil's Reign #3-5 and Devil's Reign: Omega.

"Born Again"

The new season is called "Born Again", so I guess you should read "Born Again" (Daredevil volume 1 #227-233)? Even though season 3 already kind of adapted it? Either way, it's a great, classic story arc that I recommend checking out if you haven't.

The door swung open as Bucky entered the apartment, his strides long as he made his way over to the kitchen. “Well, the Wakandans are here,” he paused momentarily, looking at you. You sat with your knees up to your chest, scrolling on your phone, your gaze met his the second he mentioned the Wakandans. “They want Zemo, bought us some more time.” 

“Were you followed?” Sam asked, as you returned to your phone. You ignored their conversation, taking an interest in your phone again. 

A small gasp escaped your lips, Karli bombed a GRC supply deport, you thought as Bucky vocalized to Sam and Zemo. You listened intensely as Bucky explained what happened to them, while you read along with the article. 

You kept searching for any information, coming up blank as all the articles reused the same information. Going over the list of demands, wondering how the world can agree. Was Zemo right? Is the only way to stop it, by stopping her? 

“But there has never been another Steve Rogers, has there?” Zemo asked in response to Bucky.

The couch dipped by the side of you as Bucky sat down. You met his concerned gaze as you glanced up from your phone. You could see the worry over his features. 

Sighing softly, you put your phone down on the cushion next to you. Bucky’s eyes remained locked on yours. 

Without a word, you reached out, placing your hand on his arm. His muscles were tense beneath you, a testament to the stress. His expression began to soften as he looked down at your hand, then back up at you. You gave him a reassuring smile, his lips turned into a faint smile in return. 

He shifted closer to you, his other hand moving to cover yours. Your thoughts couldn’t drift away from the sensation of his touch, his conversation with Sam and Zemo faded into the background.

Zemo led the way into an old courtyard, “Shame what’s become of this place,” he mused. “When I was young, we used to come here for fabulous dinners and parties. I knew nothing of the politics of the time, of course, but I remember it being beautiful.” 

You, Sam, and Bucky looked around, scanning the surroundings. “I’m gonna take a look around upstairs,” Sam said, “See what you can find out here. And, keep an eye on him,” he directed to you and Bucky, nodding towards Zemo. 

“I’ll stay out of your way,” Zemo replied with a slight smile.

You followed Bucky as he approached another group of people, “Donya? No?” he asked cautiously. 

You sighed, sharing a frustrated look with Bucky. This mission was proving more difficult than you anticipated, but you knew giving up wasn’t an option. Bucky continued to search for leads, but the local resistance made his task even more challenging. 

You observed Zemo, he began moving toward a group of children, surprisingly gently. He started singing a familiar tune. You watched his body language, it suggested he was trying to gain their trust. 

“What the hell is he doing?” Bucky muttered as Sam came up beside you, his eyes narrowed toward Zemo. “He’s up to something,” his tone wary.

“Yeah, but we need him,” you replied. “At least for now.” 

Zemo walked back toward you, a triumphant smile on his lips. “Cute kids,” he said simply.

The narrow streets of Latvia felt even more claustrophobic as you walked alongside Bucky, your senses on high alert. The gravity of the situation weighed heavily as you approached the location of Zemo’s lead. 

Suddenly, you heard hurried footsteps ahead of you as John Walker and Lemar closed in with determined expressions.

“Karli Morgenthau is too dangerous for you guys to be pulling this shit,” Walker stated, his voice was sharp. 

Sighing, Bucky rolled his eyes. “Ah! How’d you find us now?”

“Come on. You think two Avengers can walk around Latvia without drawing attention?” Lemar retorted while gesturing toward you and Sam. 

Stepping closer to Walker, a playful smirk danced on your lips. “Wow, Johnny, I didn’t realize you were so invested. You like keeping an eye on us, don’t you?” 

Bucky shot you a warning look, however, you ignored it. Stepping between you and Walker.

“No more keeping us in the dark,” Walker stated, looking over Sam’s shoulder and offering you another one of his winks. If hadn’t been enjoying Bucky’s reactions so much, you would have vomited. “You could start by telling us why you broke him out of prison.” 

“He did that himself, technically.” Bucky scoffed at him. Walker’s eyes remained on you. Sending him a smirk, you listened intensely to the men’s conversation. 

Moving around Sam’s body, you placed a hand on Walker’s arm, your fingers tracing the fabric of his uniform. “You know, it’s nice having a strong, decisive man around. Makes a girl feel… safe,” your voice dripped with flirtation as you smiled up at him. 

Bucky’s jaw clenched, his eyes narrowing on you. His patience snapped as he muttered in Wakandan. “Touch him again, and see what happens.” 

“You know, Bucky, it’s cute when you get all worked up.” you teased back to him in Wakandan. Your eyes gleamed with mischief as Walker looked down at you in confusion.

i've had a cleanup of my servers and closed the inactive ones, meaning i'm now looking for new writing partners on discord.

my name is evan, i write rapid-fire to small paragraphs in length to move the story along, i can write longer responses on the occasions that the plot requires it, but i don't like writing just to pad space.

i'm 27 and will not interact with anybody under 18, preferably you'll be over 21. minors do not interact with any of my posts.

i have a long list of ocs i have information on for you to play with and am also happy to create new ones, i play both males and females but lean more to male muses.

i write mxm and mxf ships, as well as switching any party out for a non-binary muse. i write trans and cis muses.

i am happy to write nsfw content, and can do plots with as much as 80% smut - but there has to be some form of plot to make it interesting for me - similarly, i can write plots that don't include any smut at all, if you prefer to fade to black.

with regard to nsfw content, my established list of muses are a mix of doms, subs and switches as well as tops, vers and bottoms, so if you want to include nsfw content, please let me know what your muse is so i can match accordingly. similarly, i myself have limits which i can share, but my muses have their own individual kinks and limits also. i don't want to write any nsfw content without discussing what your kinks and limits are to be included.

big fan of including text/call elements to our plots for days when we just want very quick back and forths and don't have time but do have muse.

This is a fill for today’s @flashfictionfridayofficial  prompt [#FFF311 True Colours]  as well as the @yearoftheotpevent  June prompt: Pride  and my @fandom-free-bingo  Half Baked Edition square  C1- Haircut. 

Fandom:  MCU/Marvel Pairing:  Tony Stark/Bucky Barnes Rating: General Tags: Established Relationship, Bisexual Tony Stark,  Changing Appearance, Pride Summary:  Tony always took pride in his appearance; now he was factoring Pride into it as well.   Word Count: 320

“Tony, sweetheart, pumpkin … are you sure you want to do this?”   Armando lifted one immaculately groomed eyebrow.  He had been Tony’s hair stylist for years, following him to New York from LA, and was one of the reasons Tony had been  in the Top Ten Eligible Bachelor  list in both cities for basically the last decade. 

Normally Tony would happily go along with whatever Armando suggested when it came to his hair;  but this time, well, he had a good reason behind his request.  And the reason behind the reason?  Well, he was sitting across the room from Tony, with a fondly amused expression on his face.  

“What’s the worst that can happen?” Tony said with a shrug.  “It’s just temporary color, right?” 

Armando sighed and rolled his eyes.  “Well, yes. But if you want those colors  to pop, darling, we’re going to have to bleach your hair first.”

“Oh.”  Tony grimaced; this was more of a commitment than he’d realized.   “But you can re-color it back to normal afterwards, right?”  

Another dramatic sigh.  “Yes,  I suppose.” Armando replied with a put-upon look.  “But we’d have to do a deep conditioning session before and after the re-coloring.  Even then I’ll probably have to trim whatever gets fried by the process.”  He glanced over to Bucky.  “I hope you don’t mind if your sweetie here ends up with a crew cut.” 

“You could shave him bald and he’d still be the sexiest man in the world to me.”  Bucky replied with a wink, and Tony found himself blushing. 

Armando gave Tony a playful nudge. “Aw - you picked a good one there, didn’t you?”  He turned Tony to face the mirror.  “So - we’re going with the magenta, purple and blue, then?” 

Tony took a deep breath and nodded.  “Yes indeed.” After all, he mused,  what better way to show his  bi pride than by dying his hair to match the flag?

I write in third person, past tense and anywhere from 1-4 paragraphs (~100-400 words). I work full-time during the week, so I can't guarantee daily replies. I aim for daily when I can, but more realistically it'll take me 2-3 days to reply. I have no triggers. Sooo... I have a goal for the year to finish some of my WIP (...without adding too many to the list... but we'll see how that goes). I just finished one! (Yay me!) So, I'm trying to decide on my next one... Figured I'd ask which one you guys are most interested in seeing get finished.

(Note: This is not binding. The muse will do as the muse will do, but the muse can be swayed with proper motivation. And if I know that a lot of people are really looking forward to a specific story, it'll add a little extra oomph.)

I'm not listing all of the WIP, just the ones I'm guessing are on people's lists. (I could be wrong!) If I'm missing one that you really want to see more of, let me know! (The only one not on the list and that I'm not taking votes for is The One to Bet On; that one is a special case.)

Clarification on Someone On Your Side. While I mentally count this as a WIP, it's... obviously not, since it's a series. My goal, if I made this my next focus, would be to finish the next installment. So I would focus on writing the Iron Man 3 arc. Maybe a little weird that it's on the WIP list, but the brain insists it's a WIP, so... 🤷🏼‍♀️

Then Comes Love - Fake/Pretend Relationship/Marriage between Tony and Stephen. Someone put their marriage certificate on file and that's apparently GREAT for PR. Last seen: Tony's realized he's got feelings and has NO CLUE what to do about it.

Fused at the Soul - Soul bond, Infinity Power, and Time Travel. The future was doomed and Stephen sent himself and Tony back in time, accidentally bonding their souls in the process. The two now also have infinity power available for use. Interrupted the Civil War before it could really get started! Last seen: Tony and Stephen are on Sakaar to fetch Bruce and the Hulk.

The Crisis of Change - Sequel to In Times of Crisis where Tony was erased from everyone's memory. Tony and co are trying to prepare the earth for Thanos' arrival in less than a year while Tony is also trying to figure out interpersonal relationships after five years of being missing. Last seen: Steve joined Tony's team and they're working on a plan for gathering allies.

A Burden Shared - Body Swap. Tony and Stephen have swapped bodies all their lives. Now their trying to figure out how to deal with the aftermath of Afghanistan together. Last seen: Tony was stabbed, Clint showed up as Tony's new protection detail, and Stephen learned about weapons in Gulmira.

Breathe - Soul bond/Mind bond. Destiny decided to bind Stephen and Tony together to try to prepare them for Thanos' arrival. Last seen: Tony is making decisions about Extremis and Wanda has shown back up, intent on helping/protecting Vision.

Someone On Your Side - Series. Tony and Stephen from Iron Man 2 on through the MCU. Married IronStrange. Intended as a Fix-it. Last seen: Stephen and Tony are working through Tony's PTSD post Battle of New York and Loki is a bit of a stalker (that they are aware of) who likes to get involved.
