Pyro genuinely disappeared from the plot for most of Blood in the water. Heavy and Scout were at Ayers Rock, Spy, Solly and Zhanna were in what I think is Sydney, and Ms Pauling, Demo and Sniper were in Adelaide. Where the fuck was Pyro. Where did my precious beast go.

I’ve been thinking more about the role of time travel in S4. And while I don’t want it for various reasons, it is highly possible that they will include time travel... but not in the way we think.
As many of us know, Stranger Things was originally titled “The Montauk Project”, a direct reference to:
a conspiracy theory that alleges there were a series of secret United States government projects conducted at Camp Hero or Montauk Air Force Station in Montauk, New York, for the purpose of developing psychological warfare techniques and exotic research including time travel.
Apparently, many odd events happened in and around Montauk, New York, during the 1980s. One of these events is recounted by Alfred Biezek, a man who claimed to have visited the 28th century and had memories of time travel as a result of these events. The “Philadelphia Experiment” was an alleged military experiment from 1943 that, according to Biezek, related to the Montauk Project:
[The Montauk Project] did many things in terms of time and space research. In the earliest phases, they proved they could materialize a thought from a person’s mind into a physical reality. ... It is possible but is a very rare ability. It can be done with machinery. If you know what you’re doing, it can be done every time. Eventually, they were able to do this at Montauk in the earliest phases of their operation.
We know that Eleven has the power to transcend space-time, as evident in S1 when she inadvertently opens a portal to the Upside Down, an interdimensional space that exists simultaneously and in parallel with the setting of the show. We have also theorised that Will might have powers too - could it be that Will’s ability to “sense” the Mind Flayer is inadvertently manifesting these creatures in Hawkins? As described in a 1992 book relating to the Montauk and Philadelphia projects:
As the experiments continued ... a very peculiar phenomenon was noticed. As Duncan's thoughts were projected out through the transmitter, they would suddenly cease. This was disappointing and appeared to be a malfunction. Eventually, it was noticed that the projection of Duncan's thoughts hadn't ceased. They were just occurring out of the normal time stream! For example, he would concentrate on something at 8:00 pm and the object or occurrence would happen at midnight or even 6:00 am. Whatever he thought of would not happen at the time he thought of it. It now appeared that the Montauk scientists could now use Duncan's psychic powers to actually bend time! (The Montauk Project, Preston B. Nichols, et al., 1992, p. 42)
Does this remind you of Will’s brain scans during S2? What about how El was taught to use her powers at the Hawkins laboratory?
Bielek goes on to say that the purpose of both the Montauk and Philadelphia projects was to “rip a hole in space and time” so that the aliens (yes, there are also aliens involved) could essentially funnel into our present. The visual and narrative hints between the demodogs/Dart and aliens is very specific and ever-present throughout the series - and it sits in concert with the latent subthemes of the show, namely science-fiction and alien/monster films of the 1970-80s. In this analogy, if we consider the demogorgon as an alien, and El having ripped a hole between dimensions, could the entire “time travel” storyline actually be about using these other dimensions not to skip between different years, but to pass through the conventional constraints of space and time?
And to this I have a series of questions. What if the Upside Down is a vision of future Hawkins, one taken over by the Mind Flayer, and Will has slipped between space-time to inhabit both dimensions? What if the Russians were conducting their own version of the Philadelphia Experiment, and were attempting to gain strategic advantage by evading conventional boundaries of space-time? What if the machine the Russians used in S3 to keep the gate open also meant that Hopper was sucked through when it exploded? The mathematical rules of space-time govern that there are three dimensions of space and one of time. What if the “ocean”/blackness that El can tap into in one of these dimensions; Hawkins itself is another; and the Upside Down is the third?
Most of all, what if, just as the clock motifs represent that “time’s up” this season, the type of time travel hinted in S4 is less about a Back to the Future type of scenario (although Robin’s comment remains poignant: “He has to go back to the future because he’s in the past. So, the future is actually the present, which is his time.”) but quite literally traversing through dimensions, therefore truncating space-time?

Summary: You don’t know how it happened. One moment you were watching Criminal Minds, and the next moment you were literally in the show. Can Spencer be the key to helping you find your way back home?

************************************************************************After Spencer had disappeared, JJ was surprised, to say the least.
She held the unsub by the cuffs as he angrily spoke about Spencer's big genius brain solving an equation in 2 minutes which had taken himself a lifetime of work to figure out. She asked him where the machine had taken Spencer and he replied with all of this talk about quantum mechanics, particle waves, split dimensions, and voids. Stuff that Spencer had been info-dumping about for months, regarding the case.
All JJ cared to know about was if Spencer was safe, and to that the unsub just shrugged.
The first thing the team did when you all returned to the BAU was throw the unsub into an interrogation room.
Spencer was quick to volunteer as the only interrogator in the room, he argued this unsub would react the strongest to him.
The rest of the team were still flustered from all of this inter-dimensional information that Spencer had gone on about on the ride back. You had backed him up wholeheartedly and you were seemingly in great health after being gone for 5 months.
"Alright Reid, you seem to be the only one of us that has a good idea of what's going on. We'll watch from here, and if he gets too aggressive, we'll send someone else in," Hotch agreed.
You watched from the double sided mirror, the unsub was looking at it as if he could see you. You clenched your fists. He was the reason you'd nearly lost Spencer. He was the reason that Spencer looked sick from overworking and you had nightmares for 5 months straight.
"Hey, will you be okay in here?" Spencer lowered his voice to ask you. You had refused to stop holding his hand since you got here. He noticed your fist clenching tighter.
"I don't want him to take you away from me again," you replied.
"He's in handcuffs, and his machine is being collected for evidence. He isn't a wizard, he needs that machine like Nikola Tesla needs an inductor. He can't hurt us anymore," Spencer tried to comfort you, using the soft tone he knew you loved.
"Just don't take too long in there, and give him hell for me, alright?" You stood on your toes and kissed him.
He gave you a small smile and nodded.
You slowly slid your hand from his as he turned to walk out.
When he entered the interrogation room, he was no longer soft-Spencer.
The unsub didn't even turn to look at him, he was fixated on the double mirror. His eyes unnerved you.
You crossed your hands over your chest and leaned against the wall, deciding to keep your eyes steadily on Spencer.
"We know who you are." Spencer spoke. You smiled, recognizing that Spencer was turning the unsub's words to you against him.
Was Spencer purposefully trying to make you happy while he was in the middle of an interrogation?
"I know who you are as well, Dr. Reid," his gritty voice made your skin crawl.
"Good, then you should know that I understand the significance of the science experiments you've been conducting, Dr. Arnold Lynch. You've been labeled as a dangerous person to the entire world; a mad scientist." Spencer sat in a chair, his arms crossed.
"Now they listen." Lynch, rolled his eyes, finally looking at Spencer. His unimpressed gaze trailed up and down, sizing him up.
"I was like you once. Young, an impressive mind; maybe if I had found her sooner she would have loved me." Lynch added. He looked back to the mirror, you tasted bile at the back of your throat.
Spencer leaned forward in his chair, putting his elbows on the table.
"You're trying to change the subject." Spencer pointed out. "Tell me how all of this started. Tell me where your partner, Dr. Deborah Tryst, is hiding and how she helped you."
Lynch's eyes widened. "We were colleagues. She helped me build the machine, and I wrote the equations that made it work. We went in together, the first time."
"She tested the machine with you?" Spencer asked.
"Yes, we experimented. We tried to study the void space for years. Then, one day, a crack formed. Through that crack I saw her." The unsub looked towards you, seemingly locking eyes with you through the one-way glass.
"Y/N?" Spencer clarified.
"Correct. She was spectacular, the girl from a parallel dimension. We didn't know why the crack revealed her at first, but then we saw the string. It was barely noticeable, like a fishing line. It led from her dimensional crack to ours. All it took was a tug on that wire to know who the other end of that line connected to."
He was watching me? What a sick creep!
"Who?"
"Don't play stupid with me Doctor, I know you feel it."
Spencer swallowed, his eyes flicking to you for a moment.
"I should have gotten rid of you when I had the chance. My colleague thought differently. Now that the cracks were open, she observed you both, she knew you both would feel-" he sighed, "-incomplete until you were in the same space. She decided to play matchmaker and ruin everything. I loved Y/N first. Y/N was mine and she was a beacon, a magnificent anomaly! I took her back so she could be my pet; so she would never be yours!" He angrily spat, slamming his fists onto the table. Spencer stood, seething. You felt similarly.
"You had no right!" Spencer's voice was deep and angry. You'd never heard him so angry, other than in the show.
"No, Tryst had no right bringing her to you in the first place!"
"Y/N wants to be here. This is her decision. If you're so convinced you love her, you would want what is best for her."
"What's best for her Dr. Reid, or what's best for you? Is she any better off fighting criminals for the BAU? A job she isn't trained for." He cruelly laughed. "Is putting her in danger just so you can fuck her every once in a while off-duty not selfish? You think I'm the selfish one, look at yourself. You're just expecting her to be the lawful Bonnie to your Clyde, how long until you drive her into a hail of bullets?" Lynch smirked.
Spencer's eyes widened and he gripped the table.
No Spence, don't let him get to you.
"That's it, I'm going in there." Morgan spoke up next to you.
Hotch held his hand up to block him; his eyes on Spencer. "Wait, let Spencer speak. He's getting the unsub to talk, and that's good."
Spencer quickly collected himself, his expression going blank.
"Where is Dr. Deborah Tryst?" Spencer asked.
"Ooh, did I strike a chord, Doctor?" Lynch chuckled, leaning back in his chair.
"Where is Dr. Deborah Tryst?" Spencer repeated, angrier.
"Probably playing matchmaker. There are an infinite amount of dimensions for her to play with." Lynch shrugged.
"She's still in the void?"
"Yup, she's the reason the crack sealed when you two went through. She trapped herself in there and made sure I could never go back. Whatever she's doing, we'll never know for sure because it is impossible to recreate the initial crack. You should know just how improbable it was to create one in the first place, Dr. Reid."
"So there is no further possibility of danger?"
"Not cosmically, but, for our impossible girl over there, who knows what kind of dangerous situations you will put her in." Lynch nodded to the double mirror.
"She is not yours and she will never be yours. We're putting you in a maximum security prison where you will never see her again. So you can sit in your cell for the rest of your life and remember that she's with me, not you." Spencer's eyes darkened. You wanted to end this fight and get him out of there. He was only getting angrier.
Hotch walked through the interrogation room door, holding it open. "Reid," was all he said.
That was it, Spencer had gotten a lengthy confession from the unsub. The details would come up during his trial.
Spencer stood up, not caring about the wobbling chair as he did so. He walked out of the room and you went to the hallway to meet him. You met him as he was stomping down the hall away from you. "Spencer!" You called, hurrying to follow him.
He made his way inside an empty meeting space and you quickly slipped in behind him; closing the door.
He loosened his tie and ran his hands through his hair. You let him cool off for a few moments.
"He's right. I am selfish." He sounded beyond angry, even guilty.
He leaned forward on the meeting table, clenching his fists against the wood.
"He was just trying to get the last word in. Don't pay his words any more attention." You spoke, softly; placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"You shouldn't work here. You're not properly trained for the high-intensity, high-risk situations."
"Then I can train. Anyways, I doubt Hotch is going to let me work here now that he knows," you said, sadly. You loved working here. You loved helping people and being with your BAU family. You loved Spencer's daily teasing.
"Being with me puts you in enough danger. I couldn't protect you. What's stopping something from happening to you again?" He looked up at you, though he was still hunched over the table.
"All the other times you protected me." You gave him a small smile. "When Chris threatened me, you confronted him. When I jumped into the lake, you stopped me from drowning. When I was stuck in my dimension, you rescued me from a life of being absolutely miserable without you. When the unsub first encountered us, you stood in front of me even though you couldn't see him. You've protected me far more times than you are choosing to acknowledge. I trust you with my life, Spence."
Spencer's shoulders fell as his breath evened out.
"I love you Y/N, I just don't want you to get hurt." Spencer whispered, his grip on the table loosening. He slowly stood up straight to look at you.
"We aren't some alternate justice-duo, Bonnie and Clyde. We're perfectly capable of protecting each other, and we aren't some crazy serial-killing, bank-robbing couple. We're Spencer and Y/N, the BAU's hottest couple." You spoke with exaggeration and winked.
Spencer gave you a small smile. His hair was a mess, his clothing was wrinkled, and his tie was undone.
"It's been a long day. Take me home?" You asked, giving him your best doe-eyes as you reached up to fix his tie.
"Oh. About that- you're apartment and all your money and assets are sorta gone now. You were presumed dead."
"I'm not talking about that place." You rolled your eyes; unaffected by the news.
You were used to being dirt poor anyways and that house was nothing but an empty shell.
"Home, with you," you explained.
"Oh."
Spencer broke out into a large grin. He wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you into a kiss. His coffee and woodsy-vanilla scent enveloped you like a warm hug. When he pulled away, he held his hand out to you.
"Come on then, I'll take you home."
Home, it was a strange concept. Your now-empty apartment in your dimension was once your home. You'd once almost drowned yourself to try to get back to that place.
Then you fell in love with Spencer, and living with him made you discover what a home truly was. It wasn't where you were from, it was the place you loved to be; the place you felt most comfortable, the most yourself.
Your home was in Spencer's dimension, Spencer's apartment, Spencer's arms, Spencer's everyday gestures, Spencer's smile, Spencer's late night chess games, Spencer's "I love you's," Spencer's raspy morning voice, Spencer's unruly hair, Spencer's hand kisses, Spencer's scrunched nose ticks, Spencer's info-dumps, Spencer's everything.
It was the most improbable circumstance and the one thing you were most thankful for. You got to spend your new life with Spencer.
In the end, Spencer Reid kept his promise; he did help you find your way home. Your way home to him.

Stranger Things Research
Stranger Things is an American science fiction horror drama television series created by the Duffer Brothers.
It is set in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana, during the 1980s. The nearby Hawkins National Laboratory ostensibly performs scientific research for the United States Department of Energy, but secretly does experiments into the paranormal and supernatural, including those that involve human test subjects. Inadvertently, they have created a portal to an alternate dimension, "the Upside Down". The influence of the Upside Down starts to affect the unknowing residents of Hawkins in calamitous ways.
The Duffer Brothers developed Stranger Things as a mix of investigative drama and supernatural elements portrayed with a horror and childlike sensibilities, while infusing references to the pop culture of the 1980s. Several thematic and directorial elements were inspired by the works of Steven Speilbeg, John Carpenter, David Lynch, Stephen King, Wes Craven and H.P. Lovecraft. They also took inspiration from experiments conducted during the Cold War and conspiracy theories involving secret government experiments.
The Upside Down is an alternate dimension existing in parallel to the human world. The dimension originally consisted entirely of sprawling mountains and floating rocks, and was home to a race of humanoid predators. Somehow, the Upside Down transformed from its original state and became a perfect copy of the human world, exactly as it existed on November 6, 1983. However, unlike the human world, this new incarnation of the Upside Down was overrun with alien vines, spores and membranes, and completely devoid of human life.
The alien vines, along with the humanoid predators and a species of bat-like creatures, formed a shared hive mind. This shared psychic connection was made possible via "the Mind Flayer", a powerful entity native to the Upside Down. The entirety of the Upside Down was essentially one gigantic organism, with all its contents and agents connected both physically and mentally via the Mind Flayer.

Beethoven, Poe, and Tesla all claimed to use a bizarre creative technique to come up with some of their ideas–a method that involved accessing their dreams to hunt down brilliant concepts and bring them into the conscious world. Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology are trying to build on the fabled process with an interface for dreams. They call it Dormio.
Led by MIT Media Lab Fluid Interfaces Group’s Adam Haar Horowitz, Dormio is a device designed to influence and extend the semi-lucid sleep state called hypnagogia. We all pass through this cognitive wonderland just before falling completely asleep. It’s a mental dimension that often features a distorted perception of space and time; you may lose your very sense of self, and you’ll often experience lucid dreams or come up with ideas that are free of the logical constraints and cognitive filters of the conscious brain. Even though we all experience hypnagogia, the wild visions and ideas that come with this phase of sleep are usually forever lost after a night of sleep. Geniuses like Edison and Dalí had a clever trick for recalling their ideas, though. They would take naps while holding a steel ball in their hands–which would fall as soon as they left their hypnagogia phase, instantly waking them up with a fresh memory of their lucid dreams.
Dormio is a much more advanced version of that steel ball trick, and aims to lengthen, influence, and record the “microdreams” we all experience in this state.
Using an electronic glove that contains sensors to monitor muscle tone, heart rate, and skin conductance, it monitors when you enter hypnagogia and when you’re falling into real sleep. At that point, Dormio gently nudges you with an audio cue emitted from either the team’s smartphone app, or a nearby Jibo robot with a cue word. The researchers used “fork” or “rabbit,” but it can be any word. The subtle noise is meant to bring you back into hypnagogia without completely waking you up, and in fact, the team found that the chosen word often gets conceptually incorporated into the user’s lucid dreams. Meanwhile, the app or bot will start a conversation with the semi-conscious sleeper, recording anything you say. Once the interaction is over, Dormio lets users fade out into slumberland again, repeating the process to “incept” their dreams and record dream reports.
If you think this sounds like snake oil, it’s not. Edison, Tesla, Poe, or Dalí all used the steel ball trick to make wild conceptual connections that are clearly evident in their work. One famous example of this was German organic chemist August Kekulé, who came up with the molecular structure of benzene during a hypnagogic trip: He saw molecules forming a snake that was biting its own tail.
The inventors of Dormio see the device as a more effective version of the steel ball. Here’s what Horowitz writes about his motivation on the project’s website:
I find the idea that there is a state of mind which composes and constructs my conscious self, but remains inaccessible to me, both frustrating and alluring. Hypnagogia is a “me” that I am unfamiliar with, a “me” that slips past memory as we drift into unconsciousness. Good neuroscience, to me, is effective self-examination. Good technology in service of making neuroscience relevant outside the laboratory, then, should facilitate self-examination. The ends of this project are both practical and philosophical. I have no doubt that Hypnagogia holds applications for augmenting memory, learning, and creativity. Yet also, after having explored the state myself, I find it to be a deeply valuable and inspiring sort of self-seeing which was inaccessible to me previously. As Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel said, “human creativity…stems from access to underlying, unconscious forces.”
I asked Adam about the future of Dormio and other sleep-related technologies via email. The objective is to keep iterating the devices and integrating them with neuroscience labs. Their work is part of the long history of Dream Incubation that goes all the way back to Ancient Egypt. “There is a flood of contemporary interest in sleep as more and more science comes out on the mechanisms and importance and mystery of sleep”, he says, “I see two parallel paths which would be both significant. Firstly, that use of the system allows a glimpse for people of their own Hypnagogia […] Secondly, I hope further that the system is useful to the amazing scientists who have been advising me so far, and to that larger sleep science community.”
If you want to try it, you can be a bit of an Edison and build one yourself: Dormio is open source and you can get the software for biosignal tracking on Github. The circuit board design is online, too, and you can follow these step by step instructions to make one. The team hopes that perhaps one day Dormio could become a commercial project–for now, it’s a first step towards creating interfaces that allow us to interact with our subconscious the same way we interact with our conscious mind.
After all, we spend one-third of our lives sleeping. We need an app for that.

For centuries, dress codes have been used to maintain specific social roles and hierarchies. But fashion and style have also traditionally served another purpose: to express new ideals of individual liberty, rationality and equality, according to new research by Stanford legal scholar Richard Thompson Ford.

A new book by Stanford Law Professor Richard Thompson Ford examines the societal and political significance of dress codes over time.
Civil rights activists in 1960s America wore their “Sunday Best” at protests to demonstrate they were worthy of dignity and respect as they challenged the institutions that kept Black people at the bottom of the social hierarchy. Centuries earlier, during the Age of Enlightenment in Europe, a pared-down business suit symbolized a departure from the status-based opulence of previous aristocratic regimes. Wearing the same clothes as everyone else, regardless of one’s social status, was a way of espousing the period’s new values, such as sensibility, rationality and even equality, said Ford.
These are just two of the many examples Ford has chronicled in his new book, Dress Code: How the Laws of Fashion Made History (Simon & Schuster, 2021), in which he argues that people have used dress codes to assert political control and social hierarchies throughout history. Sartorial style can also be wielded to challenge those norms and offer new political ideals in their stead. For example, the Black Panther movement rejected the “Sunday Best” that their civil rights predecessors wore to establish a new kind of resistance.
“It’s worth noting that the Black Panthers had a Minister of Culture, so they saw very clearly the importance of aesthetics in changing politics,” Ford said. “That developed into the ‘Black is beautiful movement’ which focused quite explicitly on the political dimensions of racial aesthetics and changed dominant norms of beauty in order to incorporate and reflect the norms of the black community.”
Here, Ford talks about some of this research with Stanford News Service. Ford is the George E. Osborne Professor of Law at Stanford Law School.
This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
In your research, you argue that running parallel to a history of fashion is a history of liberal individualism. Can you explain that further?
In the modern sense, fashion involves clothing that is highly expressive; it can be a sign of individual personality. This kind of clothing emerged around the same time as the ideal of individualism began to emerge in the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance. Clothing reflected new social and political ideals: the importance of the individual as opposed to the group-based statuses of aristocratic class and religious affinity. Fashion in this sense developed alongside other changes in the arts, philosophy and science: literature began to focus on individual psychology more than grand classical epics, prefiguring the transformation from epic to the novel. Philosophy and science put humans at the center of the cosmos, displacing a religious sensibility that subordinated human and earthly concerns to the divine and supernatural. Portraiture became expressive of individual personality. These changes in aesthetic sensibility eventually became part of liberal political ideology, that put the individual before the monarch or the church.
Fashion not only reflected these changes – it also may have helped to shape them by conditioning people to think of themselves first and foremost as unique individuals. In a sense, fashion lets people not only express their individuality but also experience it on their bodies.
Can you offer an example of how fashion reveals the politics of an era?
One example is the development of the business suit. As late as the early 1700s, the typical clothing for someone of high status in most of European society was opulent and adorned with things like brocade and jewels – this was true for men and women. This type of clothing signified status and aristocratic rank and a high place in society.
But as early as in the 17th century, things were beginning to change. In England, this involved the execution of King Charles I, who styled himself as an absolute monarch, and the rise of the Commonwealth. After the Commonwealth ended, the monarchy was restored but the old absolutist ambitions of the monarch didn’t come back. Instead, what emerged was a new kind of aristocracy in which the aristocrats – the people with a high place in society – dressed in a more toned down, subtle and utilitarian fashion.
There was a transformation during this period, which the psychologist John Carl Flügel later described as “the great masculine renunciation.” This was a renunciation of all of the opulence, jewels and brocade that defined the showy clothing of the past era. A new, pared-down aesthetic became the beginnings of the business suit which over time became a symbol of liberal individualism. At the time, people made the connection between the sparer, toned down suit and the ideals of human rights.
Another thing that the business suit accomplished was it created a kind of egalitarian uniform in which people of a variety of social statuses wore, more or less, the same clothing – this was new. Now, everyone from the most powerful heads of state to bank clerks wear business suits. That social leveling of attire symbolized and went along with – and even inspired and helped people to act out – the political ideal of formal equality before the law.
So that was for men. What about for women?
The story for women is longer and more complicated. During the same period [that saw the evolution of the business suit], menswear and womenswear diverged. As menswear got more streamlined with fewer extravagant details, womenswear got more opulent. In a sense, women almost compensated for the lack of opulent display by getting more of that for themselves. One might even say that men still engaged in opulent fashion vicariously through women.
Womenswear doesn’t participate in an evolution toward egalitarian norms until much, much later. And indeed, one of the stories I tell in the book is the way that this emergence of liberal egalitarianism goes hand in hand, and in some ways, deepens gender hierarchies, that in terms of clothing and attire, lasted well into the 20th century.
To give one example, while European men abandoned draped attire, which was the attire (characteristic of the ancient world) in the 14th and 15th centuries, women remained draped below the waist until the early 20th century. In the early 1900s, a woman wearing trousers might be subject to arrest for public indecency. For a long time in history, adventurous women would mimic parts of masculine style to express or assert their right to enjoy masculine prerogatives, whether it was masculine freedoms or masculine assertion of power. So, a woman wearing some element of menswear was a provocation and adopted by women on the avant-garde.
How is fashion intertwined with activism?
Fashion has played an important role in social activism for centuries. Sometimes that role has been as explicit: a social activist fighting against the power structure. Other times, it is more subtle. In the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance people resisted what were called “sumptuary laws,” which were designed to assign people in society a particular type of clothing that would express their social status.
They did so not so much as a direct political challenge to the power structure, but certainly as an indirect one. When a wealthy merchant or tradesperson adopted high-status attire, they weren’t necessarily trying to usurp the position of the nobility or bring down social hierarchies, but it was a way of saying “We deserve the same degree of social prestige and respect as the aristocracy and nobility. We are asserting our own status in society.” This was a new idea and one that turned out to be very challenging to the power structure and the status quo. Although those people may not have thought of themselves as activists, they were engaging in a form of activism.
During the racial justice movement in the 1950s and 1960s civil rights activists went to protest at lunch counters or to conduct public marches, there was a dress code. People were expected to wear their “Sunday Best” in order to demonstrate that they deserved dignity and respect. But importantly, it was also a direct challenge to a white supremacist power structure that endeavored to keep black people at the bottom of the social hierarchy. There were laws in the United States at times that required Black people and slaves to dress in clothing that was considered appropriate to their status – which was the lowest status. For Black people to dress in a manner that was elegant and refined was a challenge to that type of power structure and that’s also part of what was going on with the Sunday best attire in the civil rights struggle.
Later, a new generation of civil rights activists rejected “Sunday Best” attire as the politics of respectability. They adopted new styles that were suited to a new style of activism. Black Panthers wore black leather jackets and turtlenecks, berets and sunglasses. It was quasi-military but also it was a new visual statement designed to express a different kind of resistance to the status quo and a different type of racial pride – one that didn’t borrow from the symbols of the white bourgeoisie but instead constructed a new black aesthetic.
How do you see dress codes changing, given the new world we are currently living in?
These things can always be somewhat hard to predict, but one area where I’m fairly confident we’re going to see changes in dress codes is around norms of gender. We’re already seeing such dramatic changes in terms of the recognition of the transgender community and people who are gender non-binary. That’s a remarkable challenge to a centuries-old set of conventions in which men’s and women’s clothing diverged and were considered to be symbolic opposites. I think that is going to be fascinating to watch develop and I’m not sure exactly whether it will develop into something of a more unisex style of clothing or whether it will simply be a remixing and reconfiguring of the gender binary.
Another interesting area is post pandemic and what happens to the norms of workplace attire in the era of the Zoom call. First, there was the idea of the “Zoom shirt” that hangs at the back of their chair and is put on right before the meeting and presumably, for the rest of the day they’re wearing sweatpants, pajamas, or something like that because we’re all stuck at home.
But interestingly, another thing that developed was a kind of subtle new dress code that involved, not the clothing itself, but what was behind you in the room and how one should style the background of their Zoom call in order to communicate messages. That is very much like a different kind of dress code but your kitchen, dining room or living room are part of that public persona.
What inspired this research?
I teach employment discrimination and civil rights law and a surprising number of legal disputes have involved people challenging a dress code of some kind. For instance, women challenging workplace dress codes that required high heels or makeup or people of color challenging dress codes that outlawed preferred hairstyles that are suitable to the texture of their hair, like braids or locks.
Another thing that was very striking to me about these complaints was the intensity with which people fought the dress codes. People were willing to lose their jobs disputing workplace dress code and meanwhile, employers were willing to lose a valued employee trying to impose such a dress code. I wanted to understand why people felt so strongly about clothing, fashion and self-presentation.
The second reason is more personal. I grew up interested in fashion based on the influence of my father who actually trained as a tailor. This was at a time when African Americans often learned both a profession and a trade – the idea was they would have a trade to fall back on in case racial exclusion kept them from the profession of their choice. He never actually worked as a tailor but he learned the craft and he understood the importance of high-quality clothing. He also deeply internalized the importance of self-presentation, which was especially important for a black man growing up during the era of Jim Crow and in the era just after our civil rights laws were passed, where overt racial prejudice was still common and racial stereotypes everywhere. I saw for him how important it was to present himself in a manner that was dignified, refined and reflected his own sense of self, but also what he needed in order to negotiate a still fairly hostile society.

Great Pyramid, Human Aura and the Chakra System Abstract Mystics have speculated that the Great Pyramid in Egypt was used to influence consciousness in ancient initiates. Scientific research on how the Great Pyramid influences human consciousness has been limited due to a scarcity of sensitive measurement instruments and difficulty in obtaining government permits to conduct studies on the Giza Plateau. This study assesses the affect of the Great Pyramid on the human energy field and the chakra system. Thirty-nine subjects from 8 countries participated in the study conducted in Cairo, Egypt. To what extent does going inside the Great Pyramid affect the human aura and is this affect maintained? To what extent does going inside the Great Pyramid affect the chakra system and is this affect maintained? To what extent does the Energetic Frequency compare between inside the Great Pyramid and outside the pyramid? The research was quantitative and used a pre-test-posttest experimental design. Data on the overall area of the subjects’ Energy Field, the alignment of chakras, and the Energetic Frequencies inside and outside the Great Pyramid were collected using a Gaseous Discharge Visualization Electro-photonic Imaging (GDV/EPI) device. Analysis of Variance, comparison of means, and correlations between variables were calculated using SPSS software. Strong significant correlations were found between mean scores for Energy Fields and individual chakras suggesting that the Great Pyramid positively influences the human body. Future studies will be conducted with larger sample size to further understand patterns of entrainment among the chakra. Keywords: Great Pyramid, human aura, chakras, consciousness, GDV/EPI, Korotkov, synesthesia, Egypt, initiation, energy field, energetic frequency, pyramid effects on humans Great Pyramid, Human Aura and the Chakra System Introduction Largely misunderstood, much speculation and misinformation has been perpetrated about ancient Egyptian mysticism and the purpose of the Great Pyramid. Frankfort (1948) cites that “texts introduce us to a jungle of religious matter, so impenetrable to our understanding that Egyptologists have increasingly shunned the task of interpretation” (p. v). Scholars in the early 1900s set the pejorative tone presenting the ancient Egyptians as “the product of half-savage men, and think that it is nothing but a mixture of crude, and often disgusting, nature cults and superstitions of the most stupid and childish character” (Budge, 1913, p. 120). While mystics ascribed high levels of consciousness and secrets of ascension to the ancient Egyptians, scholars took a “firm stand against the existence of mystical initiation prior to the Hellenistic Period” (Wente, 1982, p. 161). Thus, for centuries, an impenetrable wall separated science and mysticism. Tompkins (1971) broke the mold by arguing that there was a link between the Great Pyramid and Egyptian Mysteries stating that: “the secret knowledge possessed by the hierarchy of initiates was communicated to those who could prove their worthiness by passing a long period of probationary training and severe trials” (p. 256-257). Aligned with this notion, Penczak (2007) asserted that “ascension is a mystery – a mystery not in the sense of a riddle to be solved, but an experience found in the heart of the mystery religions” (p. 9). Penczak (2007) describes ascension as a “euphemism for enlightenment, a continual state of consciousness in which an individual is in communion with the divine. Mortal, or ego, consciousness ‘ascends’ to a higher level of consciousness where there is no separation from the divine” (p. 11). Penczak goes on the describe stories of saints, gurus, and mystics from around the world who are said to shift to another dimension of reality without physically dying. Hall (1928) describes initiation ceremonies inside the sarcophagus (coffer) of the Kings Chamber inside the Great Pyramid as: “a doorway between the material world and the transcendental spheres of Nature” (p. 119). The initiate would thereby learn that the soul was immortal and that it extended beyond the physical world. Tompkins (1971) was convinced that the Great Pyramid was built “by initiates for initiates” (p. 259). Citing Arab sources, Tompkins contended that “the secrets of astronomy, complete with tables of the stars, geometry, and physics” (p. 218) were built into the Great Pyramid. Tompkins indisputably ignited curiosity. Progressions in multi-diciplinary research and the development of measurement devices to measure consciousness fields have made the current study possible. Bruyere (1989) contends that an “electromagnetic field is generated by the spinning of the chakras” (p. 61). Motoyama (1981) suggests that chakras have both subtle and physical forms which supply energy from the outside world by pervading the astral body. These follow the seemingly invisible Chinese Medicine meridians and energy channels that have been mapped in the body. The stresses of living in the current global context and exposure to specific environments encode harmony or disharmony in our energy fields and chakras. Psychological conflict or particular energy fields may impede the free flow of energy through the subtle body and can be experienced as disruptions in awareness. Great Pyramid, Human Aura and the Chakra System In his quest to measure consciousness fields, Korotkov (1998) confirmed that photonic emissions from the human body can be measured and photographed using a special electrode system that creates a high intensity field called Gaseous Discharge Visualization (GDV) which he invented. Based on Electro-Photonic Imaging (EPI), associated software programs calculate over thirty parameters such as area, brightness, density, fractality, entropy scores, chakra alignment, and chakra energetic values. Scores can then be logarithmically processed to evaluate alterations in psychological states or consciousness fields. Seeman (2002) argued that the human energy field encompasses a frequency spectrum, with slower or denser oscillations of emotionality being representative of the lower chakras. The human energy field, or aura, has varying positive and negative charges that encode the impact of experience or conditioning. Seeman (2010) concludes that the energetic properties of individual chakras can be contained in isolation and cited research indicating that chakras orchestrate in complex fields with one another due to their proximity. Understanding patterns of entrainment amongst chakras may illuminate intersensory associations known as ‘synesthesia.’ Synesthesia, from the Greek syn or ‘union’ and aesthesis or ‘sensation,’ has been loosely referred to as a ‘sixth sense’ (Cytowic, 2002, p. xxiv). It is the rare capacity of cross-sensory perception such as hearing pictures, seeing music, and tasting shapes. While synesthesia has been observed in infants and in every age group, it is considered abnormal because it is statistically rare (p. 2). Understanding synesthesia may be linked to understanding brain functioning and consciousness. Cytowic (2002) describes a ‘neuro-immune-endocrine’ network with synergistic transmitters that regulate glandular functions giving chemical feedback to hard-wired portions of the nervous system (p. 214). The glandular system is closely associated with the chakra system. Research has shown that neurotransmitters can be tagged and seen microscopically tracing the energetic transfer between nerve fibers (p. 214). It was previously thought by neurologists that emotion was localized in a discrete control center in the brain. Research into synesthesia has shown that emotion is spread over multiple neural and glandular pathways or, ‘transmodal areas’ (p. 233). Reciprocal connections between multimodal areas, thus, modulates parallel sensory perception, or synesthesia, and consciousness. The architecture of the human brain, the glandular system, and the chakra system exemplify transmodal connectivity. Great Pyramid, Human Aura and the Chakra System Methodology The current quantitative study used a pre-test–posttest experimental design to measure consciousness fields and the affect of the Great Pyramid on the chakra system. Independent variables were the Energetic Frequency Inside the Great Pyramid and Outside the Great Pyramid and Gender. The dependent variables were Area of subjects’ Energy Fields and alignment of Virtual Chakras as measured by the GDV/EPI device. Research Question 1: To what extent does going inside the Great Pyramid affect the human aura and is this affect maintained? Research Question 2: To what extent does going inside the Great Pyramid affect the chakra system and is this affect maintained? Research Question 3: To what extent does the Energetic Frequency compare between inside the Great Pyramid and outside the pyramid? Hypothesis 1: Mean scores for measurements of Virtual Chakras Inside the Great Pyramid will be closer to balance (0.00 values) than Before and After scores as measured by the GDV/EPI. Hypothesis 2: Measurements of Area of Energy Field Inside in the Great Pyramid will be greater than Before and After scores as measured by the GDV/EPI device. Hypothesis 3: Measurements of Energetic Frequency inside the Great Pyramid will be greater than measurements of Energetic Frequency outside the Great Pyramid as measured by the GDV/EPI device for environment. Thirty-nine subjects participated in the study traveling to Cairo, Egypt from Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Sri Lanka, England, Japan, Canada, and the United States. The study was conducted over a three day period from October 9-11, 2010. Special permission was granted by the Supreme Council of Antiquities for private entry into the Great Pyramid for 2 hours beginning at sunrise on 10-10-10. Data was collected by Konstantin Pavlidis using the Gaseous Discharge Visualization (GDV) device also known as Electro-Photonic Imaging (EPI) invented by Dr Konstantin Korotkov. This device was used to measure both the energy fields of the subjects as well as the Energetic Frequency Inside and Outside the Great Pyramid. On the first day of the study, a pre-test was conducted at the Movenpick Hotel and Resort in Giza where the group was staying a short distance from the pyramids. The data was collected in the pre-test is labeled ‘Before’ and it consisted of taking 2 readings for each subject: one ‘without filter’ measuring the ‘Emotional-Spiritual’ field and one ‘with filter’ measuring the ‘Physical’ field. Subjects placed their 10 fingertips one at a time onto the GDV/EPI device which had a photographic lens shielded from outside light. The device emits a mild electrical current allowing the photonic emissions from the fingertips to be photographed. The lens was cleaned, a filter was applied, and the process was repeated ‘with filter’ photographing all 10 fingertips a second time. The same process was repeated twice more on the following two days. On the second day, subjects boarded a bus before dawn and took a ten-minute drive to the north entrance of the Giza Plateau. Officials checked the government permit and registered details and the nationalities of the subjects. An Inspector from the Supreme Council of Antiquities boarded the bus with the keys to the Great Pyramid in hand. The gate to the Giza Plateau was opened an the lone bus approached the Great Pyramid in the dark. Upon arrival, the GDV/EPI device was set up to measure the Energetic Frequencies outside the Great Pyramid while the subjects remained on the bus preparing for the experiment. Subjects were instructed to bring only their cameras and water bottles and to remain in silence throughout the experience. Subjects were told beforehand that they would enter the pyramid, climb up into the Grand Gallery, and enter the Kings Chamber. As part of the experiment, they each would be invited to lay inside the ‘sarcophagus’ for 2 minutes. They would be assisted out of the sarcophagus and immediately be tested again on the GDV/EPI device both without filter and with filter. After instructions were given, the 39 subjects were escorted by the Inspector from the parking lot to the base of the Great Pyramid where they climbed up stairs along the casing stones to the elevated entrance of the Great Pyramid. The Inspector was met by a Watchman in traditional robes and both men remained outside while the subjects entered the Great Pyramid alone with the GDV/EPI device. It is noteworthy that no one else was allowed on the Giza Plateau while the experiment was conducted. The subjects entered the Great Pyramid and climbed up the Grand Gallery in silence. They entered the Kings Chamber and one by one, they stepped into the granite coffer with 4-inch stone walls and laid down. A volunteer was designated to be the timer, gently touching the person in the sarcophagus to indicate that 2 minutes had passed. Volunteers assisted the subject in getting out of the sarcophagus as their legs were wobbly and they were disoriented from the experience. Volunteers held the emerging subject steady while they awaited their turn to get the GDV/EPI readings taken. The data collected in this phase of the study is labeled ‘Inside.’ Once the subjects had finished having the 2 readings taken, they were free to move to another chamber inside the Great Pyramid as all three chambers were opened for the group: the Kings Chamber, the Queens Chamber, and the Subterranean Chamber. After subjects had been through the procedure and left the Kings Chamber, the GDV/EPI was set up to measure the Energetic Frequencies inside the pyramid. After the 2 hours had passed, all subjects left the Great Pyramid in silence and returned to the bus. The Giza Plateau was then open to the public. On the third day, the posttest was conducted at the Movenpick Hotel and Resort. Data collected in the posttest is labeled ‘After.’ Again, two sets of readings were collected for each subject with the GDV/EPI device both without filter and with filter. Upon receiving the data, the researcher noticed that all the readings had not been correctly recorded and saved. If subjects did not have all three readings (Before, Inside, and After), the subject was excluded from the data analysis. As well, the researcher’s own readings had been taken yet were not included in the data analysis since her concern for the subjects and for the procedure of the data collection would influence her readings. As a consequence, full data sets for 30 participants were analyzed. Worthy of note, none of the subjects included in the data analysis had been into the Great Pyramid before the study was conducted. Results The GDV/EPI system has three software programs associated with the device to process the photonic images logarithmically converting the images of the overall area of each fingertip corresponding to Chinese Medicine meridians. The three software programs are: (1) Energy Field; (2) Virtual Chakra; and (3) GDV Diagram. The ‘without filter’ readings measure the Emotional-Spiritual aspects of the consciousness field of the subjects. The ‘with filter’ readings the Physical aspects of the field of the subjects. As well, the GDV/EPI system incorporates a software program called ‘Sci Lab’ to process the data collected from ‘places’, or environments, in this case, the Energetic Frequencies taken outside and inside the Great Pyramid. The Energy Field program computes the images of photonic emissions from each of 10 digits for each subject, thus, displaying the overall ‘Area’ of the subjects’ Energy Field. The Virtual Chakra depicting the alignment of each chakra seeking a ‘zero point’ (approaching 0.00 value) at the center of the body. Chakras displaced showing negative values are indicating an ‘orientation to self.’ The greater the negative value, the greater the preoccupation with oneself or, otherwise stated, being ‘in the ego.’ Alternatively, if chakras show a positive value, there is a concern for others. The greater the positive value, the more the subject is oriented to society. The Virtual Chakra program, then, is measuring how well a person is balanced and without stress. To begin, this episode was inspired by an early Joe Rogan podcast where he featured Dr. Steven Greer, the founder of CSETI (Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence), as well as the Disclosure Project - a man who has brought to light over four thousand cases of UFOs landing, and over 3,500 pilot cases of UFO sightings. Over 500 reports from whistleblowers from Military and Government officials reporting on both UFO and ET encounters, including over 100 of these reports on videotape. And on a completely side note - Joe, if you’re watching, please bring Dr. Greer back!!
Anyway, what he describes in this podcast is that all of these ET’s who are visiting the planet, and they’re real, by the way... - are not coming here in methods that are within the confines of the speed of light or slower because it would take millennia to travel across the universe at those abysmally slow speeds. They are moving faster than light, somehow.
He explains that after passing Speed of Light, it's an entirely different and new kind of physics than anything we currently know. While our current physics model has experimentally proved the prevalence of light being the fastest thing, if there are aspects of our universe that are unseen by us and based on undiscovered laws, perhaps the belief of Light Above All is limiting us from perceiving an even greater truth. The consistent interpretation of people looking at this information saying that it’s debunked then, following ridicule, is holding us back socially and technologically.
In one incredibly moving section of the interview, Steven explains that one time, he sat down with the CIA Directors family, and the Director's Wife asked him, “how are they getting here?” referring to the aliens - and he answered that they had an advanced technology that interfaced with thought and consciousness. He describes that just like crossing the sound barrier was a big deal, the light wall is going to be an even bigger deal - and when we do, we are going to cross into these sort of multi-phasic resonant dimensions, part of which hook into the singularity of mind and thought. The CIA director's wife looked at him with wide eyes and just went, “Wow… I knew it had to be something like that!”
And it was then at that moment; I decided that we had to make this video.
Part of the challenge of understanding the ‘faster than light conundrum” is getting to know the initial problem in the first place, and why do scientists believe that there is nothing faster? To quote Neil Degrasse Tyson in his book “Astrophysics for People in a Hurry,” we find the following.
“Among all constants, the speed of light is the most famous. No matter how fast you go, you will never overtake a beam of light. Why not? No experiment ever conducted has ever revealed an object of any form reaching the speed of light. Well-tested laws of physics predict and account for that fact.
I know these statements sound closed-minded. Some of the most bone-headed, science-based proclamations in the past have underestimated the ingenuity of inventors and engineers: “We will never fly.” “Flying will never be commercially feasible.” “We will never split the atom.” “We will never break the sound barrier.” “We will never go to the Moon.” What they have in common is that no established law of physics stood in their way.
The claim “We will never outrun a beam of light” is a qualitatively different prediction. It flows from basic, time-tested physical principles. Highway signs for interstellar travelers of the future will justifiably read: The Speed of Light: It’s Not Just a Good Idea. It’s the Law”.
Here is honestly an entire video on its own to get into the science of Light and the whole deal. Still, the speed of light is this curious property of light where it travels at a particular speed, no matter what. Even if you were flying a spaceship at half the speed of light and had headlights in front of the ship, that light would still travel at the speed of light, no faster, measured from any perspective moving or not. As Neil wrote - no modern physics experiment has ever found any evidence of anything moving more quickly, but then again - as Steven Greer described, on the other side of that barrier may be an entirely different kind of physics. Perhaps we don’t even have the tools to measure the mysteries beyond that barrier.
With a new kind of physics, perhaps we get more into a quantum understanding of the universe again - being able to move forwards and backward through time, and leap massive distances in space that would be impossible on this side of the lightspeed barrier.
So… okay - maybe there is some way beyond our understanding of how to move through this faster-than-light dimension, which of course, opens the doors of curiosity for all of us, but then the question becomes, what else is out there? A huge problem in science is concerned with the mysterious cosmic substance - dark matter and dark energy. Could these mysterious substances - virtually undetectable to us besides that they produce gravity, be waiting for us on the other side of the light barrier?
Now, what’s especially curious about this is that we find a link to the mysteries of dark matter and energy in a place where you might not expect, the work of Doctor Rick Strassman, Ph.D. He is a man who has pioneered psychedelic research for all of us in profound ways with his work with DMT, which he has coined “The Spirit Molecule,” leading to the publishing of his book and movie of the same name.
In his writings, he challenges all conventional thinking about science, consciousness, and dimensions with some profound and groundbreaking research, which any scientist today should take special note of because of this incredible substance's implications.
Over several years, Rick led the expedition to administer several hundred doses of DMT to participants in a study to see if there were any clinical benefits of using DMT. What the study revealed, however, opened up a wormhole of possibilities that could potentially change our understanding of ourselves and the universe forever. Over and over, Ricks participants all experienced these incredible psychedelic voyages that often included seeing environments outside of the realms of what physically can exist in our universe or meeting alien beings in many sizes and shapes who interacted with the participants.
Rick repeatedly tried to rationalize this, for the conventional thinking says that psychedelics reveal in your mind what is already within you - but enough participants reported meeting the same or similar beings that it seemed outlandish to think that these experiences were all happening inside people's heads. Not only did the research suggest that the participants' consciousness was being taken to another dimension of sorts, meeting beings who are not from this same plane that we exist in, but the participants also often said the same thing. They claimed definitively that this was not an experience isolated within them, but they knew without a shadow of a doubt that they met these other beings for real!
I can say from my personal experiences that I agree with this. As a bit of a psychonaut myself, I can say after meeting the various beings that I've met, including Thoth and Enki, the Egyptian Sumerian Gods of Wisdom, Jesus, and a sort of cosmic Mahayana Buddha, among others, there is no way I can, in my right mind say that it was all just drummed up from my subconscious. To any scientist who outright denies this suggestion, I challenge you to explore plant medicine in a sacred and ceremonial way, and I know Rythmia will take you and see if you still feel the same way after. That’s not to say that psychedelics are exclusively a cosmic and external experience, but that it seems to open you up for conscious expansion, both internally AND externally, in both this dimension and others.
I bring all of this up because Dr. Strassman described this might even relate to the mysteries of Dark Matter and Dark Energy! Ahah, we’ve come full circle! In DMT The Spirit Molecule, he wrote the following.
“The strangest realms to which DMT might lead are those that exist within the mysterious realms of dark matter. There, which may indeed be here, no one knows what we will find. Dark matter comprises at least 95 percent of this universe's mass. In other words, nearly all of the matter in the universe is invisible. We cannot see it. It neither generates nor reflects radiation of any type, visible or otherwise. The only way we know it is there is by its gravitational effects. It must exist by virtue of the fact that the visible universe maintains its particular shape. Without this mass, there would not be enough gravity to hold the universe together—it would fly apart.
Scientists have nominated several candidates for the "stuff that comprises dark matter. "Normal" matter that radiates little or no light—planets, dead or unborn stars, and black holes—may account for about 20 percent of dark matter. However, it's likely that most, if not all, dark matter consists of particles quite different from our familiar protons, electrons, and neutrons. These "black" particles may obey entirely different laws of physics, unlike those in parallel universes. Finding ourselves in a world composed of them, we most likely would not recognize much.
Either of these invisible levels of existence, parallel universes or dark matter, are present at the same time as this reality. Thus, they both are options we must consider for where DMT takes us when our consciousness is no longer in this plane of experience. The immediacy of the transition makes appealing these two alternate viewpoints regarding the incredibly unusual places our volunteers describe. This is because they are as much here as there. So the question about "inside" versus "outside," as many volunteers posed it, really no longer has any meaning.
Before performing the DMT research, I would have suggested that familiarity with alien abduction phenomena would be important in providing the best possible supervision for sessions. However, I do now. I also believe it's helpful to know something about current theories regarding "invisible realms," like dark matter and parallel universes.
Equipped with these types of training and experience, research scientists and staff will be ready to understand, accept, and react to nearly everything that might come up during deep psychedelic sessions.”
And so, bringing things to a close- we must strive to answer the question from the beginning… what, if anything, can go faster than light? It seems that with specific technology, perhaps even physical objects can, but as far as our bodies and minds go - at least what Dr. Strassman has discovered, is that it's possible that even if our bodies are limited here, perhaps consciousness is the one thing that permeates everywhere, including beyond the speed of light, at least with a little bit of help from some DMT, that is...
With all of this information, the biggest thing for me is that when scientists make definitive statements about absolutes in the universe, the proper response seems to be healthy skepticism.
The point being, though - there are so many mysteries in the cosmos that it seems arrogant to suggest we understand everything correctly, especially when the standard model, quantum mechanics, and even gravity are incomplete and do not fully connect. Especially with the work of some of these great people today, it would seem as though something is going on to suggest not only that there is a whole other reality waiting for us beyond the light-barrier but that we may even be naturally equipped to explore those realms within us...

Jerks don’t actually get ahead at work
Being a selfish jerk doesn’t get you ahead, according to new research.
Researchers tracked disagreeable people from college or graduate school to where they landed in their careers about 14 years later.
Even though jerks tend to engage in dominant behavior, their lack of communal behavior cancels out any advantage their aggressiveness gives them.
“I was surprised by the consistency of the findings. No matter the individual or the context, disagreeableness did not give people an advantage in the competition for power—even in more cutthroat, ‘dog-eat-dog’ organizational cultures,” says coauthor Cameron Anderson, a professor at the Haas at the University of California, Berkeley.
The researchers conducted two studies of people who had completed personality assessments as undergraduates or MBA students at three universities. They surveyed the same people more than a decade later, asking about their power and rank in their workplaces, as well as the culture of their organizations. They also asked their coworkers to rate the study participants’ rank and workplace behavior.
Does a disagreeable personality help at work?
Across the board, the researchers found those with selfish, deceitful, and aggressive personality traits were not more likely to have attained power than those who were generous, trustworthy, and generally nice.
That’s not to say that jerks don’t reach positions of power. It’s just that they didn’t get ahead faster than others, and being a jerk simply didn’t help, Anderson says. That’s because any power boost they get from being intimidating is offset by their poor interpersonal relationships, the researchers found. In contrast, the researchers found that extroverts were the most likely to have advanced in their organizations, based on their sociability, energy, and assertiveness—backing up prior research.
“The bad news here is that organizations do place disagreeable individuals in charge just as often as agreeable people,” Anderson says. “In other words, they allow jerks to gain power at the same rate as anyone else, even though jerks in power can do serious damage to the organization.”
The age-old question of whether being aggressively Machiavellian helps people get ahead has long interested Anderson, who studies social status. It’s a critical question for managers, because ample research has shown that jerks in positions of power are abusive, prioritize their own self-interest, create corrupt cultures, and ultimately cause their organizations to fail. They also serve as toxic role models for society at large.
For example, people who read former-Apple CEO Steve Jobs’ biography might think, “Maybe if I become an even bigger asshole I’ll be successful like Steve,” the authors note in their paper.
“My advice to managers would be to pay attention to agreeableness as an important qualification for positions of power and leadership,” Anderson says. “Prior research is clear: agreeable people in power produce better outcomes.”
While there’s clearly no shortage of jerks in power, there’s been little empirical research to settle the question of whether being disagreeable actually helped them get there, or is simply incidental to their success. Anderson and his coauthors set out to create a research design that would clear up the debate.
What makes a person a jerk?
What defines a jerk? The participants had all completed the Big Five Inventory (BFI), an assessment based on general consensus among psychologists of the five fundamental personality dimensions: openness to experience, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, and agreeableness. Coauthor Oliver P. John, a professor of psychology who directs the Berkeley Personality Lab, developed the BFI. In addition, some of the participants also completed a second personality assessment, the NEO Personality Inventory-Revised (NEO PI-R).
“Disagreeableness is a relatively stable aspect of personality that involves the tendency to behave in quarrelsome, cold, callous, and selfish ways,” the researchers explain. “…Disagreeable people tend to be hostile and abusive to others, deceive and manipulate others for their own gain, and ignore others’ concerns or welfare.”
In the first study, which involved 457 participants, the researchers found no relationship between power and disagreeableness, no matter whether the person had scored high or low on those traits. That was true regardless of gender, race or ethnicity, industry, or the cultural norms in the organization.
The second study went deeper, looking at the four main ways people attain power: through dominant-aggressive behavior, or using fear and intimidation; political behavior, or building alliances with influential people; communal behavior, or helping others; and competent behavior, or being good at one’s job. They also asked the subjects’ coworkers to rate their place in the hierarchy, as well as their workplace behavior (interestingly, the coworkers’ ratings largely matched the subjects’ self-assessments).
This allowed the researchers to better understand why disagreeable people do not get ahead faster than others. Even though jerks tend to engage in dominant behavior, their lack of communal behavior cancels out any advantage their aggressiveness gives them, they conclude.
Anderson notes that the findings don’t directly speak to whether disagreeableness helps or hurts people attain power in the realm of electoral politics, where the power dynamics are different than in organizations. But there are some likely parallels.
“Having a strong set of alliances is generally important to power in all areas of life,” he says. “Disagreeable politicians might have more difficulty maintaining necessary alliances because of their toxic behavior.”
The paper appears in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

On the eve of International Yoga Day (on 21st June), the article on “Need of common platform for Scientist and Spiritual masters (Yogi) to reveal the unknown of the universe” is being published. In this connection, the analyses like i) Advantage of Common platform ii) The utility of meditation for scientist iii) Field of research in common platform and the same have been elaborated. As the scientists need “Intuitive Approach” to know the unknown from the universe, the importance of meditation in Yoga is also explored. The paper reveals the eight fundamental achievements of science namely i) Pythagorean Theorem ii) Newton’s Theory iii) Differential calculus (Maxwell’s) iv) Thermodynamics v) Schrodinger’s concept vi) Information theory vii) Einstein’s Theory or Quantum theory viii) Radio activities. They (eight achievements of Science) are compared with the facts mentioned in Veda, Upanishad and Bhagvad Gita. The spiritual facts are hidden in the inner core of human being, and the same requires the exploration with the help of meditation.
There is an appeal to the readers of scientific as well as spiritual communities to comment (if any) with explanation or reasoning so that the paper could be build up for better utility of the human beings.

In this connection, the facts like “What is Real in Science and Yoga?”; “what are the Parallel in Science and Yoga?” and “what are the achievements in Science and Yoga?” are to be brought for diving deep in respective subjects while discovering the unknown.

Application of Quantum and Particle Physics are many. Fundamental particles like Photon, Proton, Neutron, Electron and Neutrino play a vital role while formation of forces and four force carriers. The details are well known to the scientists but the same are also known by the yogi science inception of the universe; which has been endorsed by the Veda, Upanishad, Brahm sutra and Bhagvad Gita. One among them is electron which is widely known by the common people. Electrons play an essential role in numerous physical phenomena, such as electricity, magnetism, chemistry and thermal conductivity, and they also participate in gravitational, electromagnetic and weak interactions. Since an electron has charge, it has a surrounding electric field, and if that electron is moving relative to an observer, it will generate a magnetic field. Electromagnetic fields produced from other sources will affect the motion of an electron according to the Lorentz force law.

Science has already established the concepts and utility of these subjects directly or indirectly for common people. Likewise, there are many theories or concepts mentioned in Veda, Upanishad, Bhagvad Gita and even in Hanuman Chalisa; which are equivalent to the concepts established by Scientists (mentioned above). Both (Scientists and Spiritual master or Yogi) have to understand the findings of each other so that any correction (if required) could be implemented to achieve the best possible facts of the universe.
5. Brief research on eight achievements of Science and Yoga
Preliminary research about eight fields reveals the following
i. PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM
The image “Pythagorean theorem” describes briefly describes the achievement of Science and yoga. The ancient theorem, first recorded between 570-495 BC is a fundamental principle in Euclidean Geometry, and the basis for the definition of distance between two points. Pythagoras's theorem also describes the relationship between the sides of the right triangle on a flat plane.
Pythagorean Theorem was discovered about 2500 years ago whereas; concept of meditation was established since Human inception (as mentioned in Satya Yuga or starting of Human life). Since then Yogi have discovered many things and uses the equilibrium geometry during meditation making holism among “Energy (Prana), Space (Mind) and consciousness (Chetana)”. Yogi also uses the same concept while transforming one chakra to another in Bahirang Yoga and also by finding distance in psychic tunnel in Antarang Yoga; which is also performed in meditation.
Utilization of Pythagorean Theorem by yogi:
Pythagorean Theorem is used in meditation when spine is supposed to be at 90 degree with respect to base of sitting posture. This Posture is must to have easy flow of energy in Ida and Pingla path. Higher aspect of Pythagorean Theorem is required when meditation is performed.
Human body is a complex geometry; but Yogi knows how to make the same simple by using three paths (Ida, Pingla and Sushumna). The energy (bio-plasmic force), space (mind) and consciousness (Chetna) are regulated to have harmoniously balanced state in these paths. The concept of Pythagoras theorem is used by a yogi while performing Asna, Pranayama and meditation. The posture designed for Asna, Pranayama and also the sitting posture adopted in meditation are made perfect by utilizing the scientific concept.
ii. NEWTON’S LAW ENDORSES PURIFICATIONS ASPECTS OF YOGI
The image “Utility of Newton’s Law of Universal Force by a Yogi through Bio-plasmic (Prana) form” briefly describes the achievement related to Science and Yoga.
Newton’s law explains why the planets move the way they do, and how gravity works, both on earth and throughout the universe. First published in the principia in July 1687, the law of gravitation was the defacto reference equation for nearly 200 years until Einstein's Theory of General relativity replaced it.
In universe, planets are moving and gravitational force is also working. Human beings are replica of the universe. In physiology, human organs are functioning under Apana Prana reflecting gravitational force of the universe. “Newton’s law of action & reaction” is very famous law. Undoubtedly, this is nature’s law and is applicable till we remain under the grip of the nature. However, yogi changes this law and creates reaction (the result or fruit of action) into inaction (Akarma). This is possible only in yoga but not in science. How? Every action provides reaction as per nature’s law (endorsed by Newton).
The analysis shows that in yoga, we go to the backbone of action which is prana & the same is expanded in such a way that action loses its grip & the mind gets expanded as Chitta. When this is achieved (expansion of mind as Chitta or mind stuff in meditation), the fruit of action (in terms of reaction) gets erased. Though, the action is done but reaction of its result is not questioned. This is because, the mind is expanded into Chitta or mind stuff. This could be made clear by the example of devastating river, storm (hard windblown during devastation) & the hot scorching sun; when they do the action (seems to be cruel in nature) but not accounted for reaction after action. In meditation, this kind of scenario is achieved by expansion of mind in the field of Chitta & further dissolving the Chitta in self (Atman).
iii. DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS (MAXWELL’S THEOREM)
The calculation shown is the definition of the derivative in differential calculus, one of calculus's two major branches. The derivatives measures the rate at which a quantity is changing. For example, if we are walking 2Km an hour, then we will change our position by 2Km every hour. During 1687, Newton used calculus to develop his law of motion and Gravitation.

The practice of different mudra reveals approach for invention which is similar to the classical electromagnetism. v. SCHRÖDINGER’S EQUATION
This equation describes how the quantum state of a quantum system changes with time. Developed by Australian physicist Erwin Schrodinger in 1926, it governs the behaviour of atoms and subatomic particles in quantum mechanics. Schrodinger’s equation paved the way for nuclear power, microchips, electron microscope and Quantum computing.
Yogi visualizes that how the process of cosmic dust, atomic particle and formation of electron, proton and neutron take place in the universe with time. The reversal process (while evolution process) also reveals the unification of nuclear configuration while Yogi is in deep meditation. In downward causation, the exploration of quantized energy is obtained where end product is the material (composed of Panch Mahabhootha). The meditation provides the best possible answers dealt with quantum as well as particle physics.

Information theory is a branch of mathematics that studies the coding of information in the form of equation of symbols, and the speed at which that information can be transmitted. Applications of topics within information theory include data compression and channel coding. Research in the field was also instrumented in the development of the internet and mobile phones.
Yogi uses the scientific information theory while making the connectivity between brain neurons and stars of the universe. The same is also used in cellular biological mechanism where the information is transmitted between body cells and the brain.
The information theory adopted in yoga is very helpful to diagnose and activate the corrective measures against germs and viruses acting on physiology, biology, cellular mechanism and also on DNA level.

Continuum as paradigm of modern Physics gets clarity in Yoga
Physics now gone to the extent of realizing that there is a continuum which is the ultimate reality of the universe, and it is not physical or solid in its nature. How is it possible? The analysis reveals that -- Solid can be converted into Liquid; Liquid can be converted into gases; Gases can be converted into the energy, and energy is not located in any particular place. Energy is not localized movement (non-locality); it is a continuum i.e., non special and non temporal.
This is a subject in modern physics which practically takes us to the conclusion of the Upanishads and Gita that “all action is a cosmic action”. This means that action is carried out because of continuum of Prana. When yogi evolves, he or she finally gets continuity of energy (surplus form) and the same is obtained during meditation. Though, non-locality of energy is a paradigm of physics, the yogi resolves this paradigm and makes the practitioner of meditation understand the continuum process.

Radioactivity is the bane against development of nuclear energy (boon of the scientific development). However, Yogi perceives the radioactivity in favour of realizing the absolute (god). In doing so, the yogi gets connected to the radioactive substances like alpha, beta, gamma and black matter of the universe (macro) through brain neurons (micro). When connectivity is established between brain neurons and the stars of the universe (which are beyond galaxy), yogi picks up advantageous aspects of each particle and make use of the same as helping hand for further evolution and realization.

New polymer films conduct heat instead of trapping it
Polymers are usually the go-to material for thermal insulation. Think of a silicone oven mitt, or a Styrofoam coffee cup, both manufactured from polymer materials that are excellent at trapping heat.
Now MIT engineers have flipped the picture of the standard polymer insulator, by fabricating thin polymer films that conduct heat — an ability normally associated with metals. In experiments, they found the films, which are thinner than plastic wrap, conduct heat better than many metals, including steel and ceramic.
The team’s results, published in the journal Nature Communications, may spur the development of polymer insulators as lightweight, flexible, and corrosion-resistant alternatives to traditional metal heat conductors, for applications ranging from heat dissipating materials in laptops and cellphones, to cooling elements in cars and refrigerators.
“We think this result is a step to stimulate the field,” says Gang Chen, the Carl Richard Soderberg Professor of Power Engineering at MIT, and a senior co-author on the paper. “Our bigger vision is, these properties of polymers can create new applications and perhaps new industries, and may replace metals as heat exchangers.”
Chen’s co-authors include lead author Yanfei Xu, along with Daniel Kraemer, Bai Song, Jiawei Zhou, James Loomis, Jianjian Wang, Migda Li, Hadi Ghasemi, Xiaopeng Huang, and Xiaobo Li from MIT, and Zhang Jiang of Argonne National Laboratory.
In 2010, the team reported success in fabricating thin fibers of polyethylene that were 300 times more thermally conductive than normal polyethylene, and about as conductive as most metals. Their results, published in Nature Nanotechnology, drew the attention of various industries, including manufacturers of heat exchangers, computer core processors, and even race cars.
It soon became clear that, in order for polymer conductors to work for any of these applications, the materials would have to be scaled up from ultrathin fibers (a single fiber measured one-hundredth of the diameter of a human hair) to more manageable films.
“At that time we said, rather than a single fiber, we can try to make a sheet,” Chen says. “It turns out it was a very arduous process.”
The researchers not only had to come up with a way to fabricate heat-conducting sheets of polymer, but they also had to custom-build an apparatus to test the material’s heat conduction, as well as develop computer codes to analyze images of the material’s microscopic structures.
In the end, the team was able to fabricate thin films of conducting polymer, starting with a commercial polyethylene powder. Normally, the microscopic structure of polyethylene and most polymers resembles a spaghetti-like tangle of molecular chains. Heat has a difficult time flowing through this jumbled mess, which explains a polymer’s intrinsic insulating properties.
Xu and her colleagues looked for ways to untangle polyethylene’s molecular knots, to form parallel chains along which heat can better conduct. To do this, they dissolved polyethylene powder in a solution that prompted the coiled chains to expand and untangle. A custom-built flow system further untangled the molecular chains, and spit out the solution onto a liquid-nitrogen-cooled plate to form a thick film, which was then placed on a roll-to-roll drawing machine that heated and stretched the film until it was thinner than plastic wrap.
The team then built an apparatus to test the film’s heat conduction. While most polymers conduct heat at around 0.1 to 0.5 watts per meter per kelvin, Xu found the new polyethylene film measured around 60 watts per meter per kelvin. (Diamond, the best heat-conducting material, comes in at around 2,000 watts per meter per kelvin, while ceramic measures about 30, and steel, around 15.) As it turns out, the team’s film is two orders of magnitude more thermally conductive than most polymers, and also more conductive than steel and ceramics.
To understand why these engineered polyethylene films have such an unusually high thermal conductivity, the team conducted X-ray scattering experiments at the U.S. Department of Energy’s Advanced Photon Source (APS) at the Argonne National Laboratory.
“These experiments, at one of the world’s most bright synchrotron X-ray facilities, allow us to see the nanoscopic details within the individual fibers that make up the stretched film,” Jiang says.
By imaging the ultrathin films, the researchers observed that the films exhibiting better heat conduction consisted of nanofibers with less randomly coiled chains, versus those in common polymers, which resemble tangled spaghetti. Their observations could help researchers engineer polymer microstructures to efficiently conduct heat.
“This dream work came true in the end,” Xu says.
Going forward, the researchers are looking for ways to make even better polymer heat conductors, by both adjusting the fabrication process and experimenting with different types of polymers.
Zhou points out that the team’s polyethylene film conducts heat only along the length of the fibers that make up the film. Such a unidirectional heat conductor could be useful in carrying heat away in a specified direction, inside devices such as laptops and other electronics. But ideally, he says the film should dissipate heat more effectively in any direction.
“If we have an isotropic polymer with good heat conductivity, then we can easily blend this material into a composite, and we can potentially replace a lot of conductive materials,” Zhou says. “So we’re looking into better heat conduction in all three dimensions.”

Ok. I was reading a lot of theories lately on what Upsidedown possibly can be. I even tried to connect "Annihilation" 2018, "Stalker" 1979 and Zdzislaw Beksinski paintings together to form some comprehensive theory on what upsidedown can possibly be. Then, I realized that all of that is might just be the inspiration for the depiction of Upsidedown, however, the inner workings of the Upsidedown are absolutely different. So, from Season 1 and Season 2 we know that Upsidedown is depicted as an alternative universe. However, we, for now, don't know how many alternative universes are out there. Let's say for the sake of our conversation that there are 8 possible coexisting universes, but there could be an infinite amount.From the science class, we know that viruses were present in the universe from the very early stages of Big Bang and cell development. Remember that Castle Byers was in the Upsidedown, which means that Will in some time existed in the Upsidedown. Upsidedown is one of the 7 parallel universes. The closest to the one that our character inhabit.However, like a virus, there are also genetic mutations in humans. Hence the connection to global theme across all the universes. These mutations manifest itself into different abilities like the ones that Eleven and Eight have, some are even possibly human created. So in one point in time Upsidedown, supposedly in the 1950th, was a normal Hawkins as we know it. It also had Hawkins Lab. So imagine in 1950th Upsidedown, humans discovered psychic abilities through Eleven, or other similar child and accidentally stomped on the portal to the dimension which MindFlyer already overtook. That led to the almost same events as Season 1 and Season 2, however, in both of those events, our heroes lost. Hence, MindFlyer overtook that dimension. Since our parallel universes exist in close proximity, the same lab experiments were conducted in the Hawkins as we know it now, and the culmination of those experiments was a couple of decades off, hence in 1983 Dr.Brenner conducted the same thing that he did in 1950th Upsidedown Hawkins. Hence portal to the Upsidedown was opened in 1983. Due to unfortunate events, Upsidedown by that time was overtaken with the MindFlyer virus. Hence it looks like 1950th Hawkins, and Will in that dimension will be born a couple of decades earlier.Now, in season 3 we know that we are going to be dealing with the infection. What I envision is that a small replica of the virus is already in our dimension. Small dark matter that escaped Will. And it does not matter that The Gate is closed. That small dark matter that escaped has to mutate, and it will in order to adapt to the conditions of our dimension. It is going to mutate in a completely new form with the same principle to overtake the current dimension. It is very similar to the "Prometheus" idea. Aliens species will exist, somewhat resembling the original, but mutating and adapting to the planet that they were thrown into. In our case, it is the dimension in which MindFlyer is infiltrated into. In future seasons we will revisit Upsidedown, most likely with an antidote or a vaccine against the virus, we will discover in Season 3. However, in season 3 the BIG BAD is going to be the MindFlyer virus that is mutating, adapting. Remember, this virus has millions of years of adapting and overtaking dimensions. That explains why it overtook Upsidedown so quickly. I even can theorize that our dimension is the last one not overtaken by the virus. This explains why our characters are so special and chosen to be told a story about and also why MindFlyer is so interested in this dimension.However, if our characters don't succeed in Season 3, in inventing an antidote, that means that the only way around is to go back in time and to prevent opening of the Gate in the first place.
