IT WAS A WEIRD FEELING stepping foot on the Terran surface again. Flashes of the years following the snap plagued his thoughts. A time of true despair akin to the loneliness felt after escaping his captors. A brief shake of the head dismissed such notions, though the feeling was not so distant. The much more recent disbandment served as the catalyst which reignited that feeling, though it did not burn as bright. There was an air of impermanence to this separation and a much more tangible proximity. This was the reason behind the Earth visit. Taking advantage of said proximity, in a sense.
Ears flicked and fluttered about, tracking the cacophonous noise of human life. Hushed murmurs, baited gasps, and shuffling feet seemed most prominent; a reaction to his presence no doubt. It's almost as if these humans had never seen a RACCOON before. Nevertheless, he didn't have time to or see a good reason to address the gathering crowd. It'd likely insight a panic if they heard him speak. Instead, the focus was on his communicator, which blinked rhythmically in his hands.
" ya better answer, ya jerk... "
@outlawiism plotted.

" I am just impressed that a creature like you can be so aggresive."
" and what's that supposed to mean humie? " Others calling him aggressive was never really a good thing. At least, it was never meant in a complimenting way. So naturally, he would take offense.

" I'm not entirely sure I approve of this plan, but what the hell -- let's do it. "
THE RACCOON COULDN'T HELP BUT crack a smile when the hastily put together scheme was agreed to. " hell yeah. and gimme some credit, will ya? would i ever steer ya wrong? actually, don't answer that. "
The capacity to steer others wrong was absolutely within his capabilities. In fact, he often found great enjoyment in doing so. When it came to matters like this, however, his tactical mind couldn't help but take things seriously. " and hey, if we do this right, you might even get to punch some high and mighty pricks. "

There were very few ideas that came to mind that would lead anyone to stow away on the ship of the Guardians. None of them were good. Quite frankly, they were very idiotic, especially given who the new captain was. Rocket was far less opposed to wanton violence than his hybrid predecessor. Exposing that inclination immediately was not on his list of priorities. Far better to have a little fun instead. There was nothing else going on after all.
" How about you press that button and find out? What's the worst that can happen? " A confident smirk tugs at the corners of his mouth, eyes steadily fixed on her. While the option of shooting was very much on the table, this was a much more entertaining route.
all manners were forgotten when she's joined the ravagers -- you took what you wanted and fought tooth and nail to keep your prize. So when the opportunity arises to grab something so shiny and new and obviously worth a lot , Cherri doesn't hesitate. Pockets are already shoved to the brim with small trinkets that once belonged to someone on this ship.
Normally it wouldn't be an issue for her to hide out of everyones' way , but it's a cough that makes her known.
" I ain't givin' it back. " she says , as matter-of-factly as she could. But then , there's a thought that's processed , the metal hand of hers holds the object , but there's no intent of giving it back. " what even is it? "

The recently promoted captain accompanies the hybrid into the humble home. It was a far cry from the earthly dwellings he had found himself in in the past. Obviously the Avengers base sets the bar pretty high for what could be. Even if it was humans that made it. There's an audible scoff at the audacity of Quill's words.
" Don't get ahead of yourself Quill. I'm only here 'cuz the crew keeps asking for new music. And I only came here 'cuz I knew YOU missed me. Had to stop ya from looking worse. Can't imagine a human missing a raccoon would look good. " There is certainly a playful bite to those words. Deception also underlines his tone, and if that tearful goodbye was to be remembered, that deception would be easy to see through.
" i doubt that. groot's about as big as a flarkin' buildin' now. " If these kids were capable of destroying someone as big as groot, then perhaps he may have been justified in blasting them. Though, they did have quite the capacity for destruction. It would almost be admirable were that chaotic force not trapped in such an annoying package.
" so quill, how you likin' it back on Earth? i figured you'd get bored and come back by now. being a human is so boring ... no offense. " That was definitely meant as an insult. Even after spending so much time on the planet and saving it from partial genocide, he still didn't like them. It may have been perhaps they reminded him of his creator. Maybe it was just that they sucked. No one could really say one way or the other, including him.

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE to know that school had just been let out. A bruised ego bubbled up to the surface as he stood surrounded by young, noisy humans. Had a rather pointed threat not been issued beforehand, there was a statistical certainty that they would have been touching his fur already. They should find themselves quite fortunate that the raccoon was a guardian, because his level of annoyance rose with every high pitched word from their mouths. And with Phlya on his team now, it was an impressive feat.
Rocket wasn't even aware that Quill was approaching him in that moment. All he could gather through the crowd was an adult rushing towards him, speaking far too softly to be heard over the cacophony of child-like wonder surrounding him. It wasn't until the hybrid was pretty much in the crowd that he finally noticed.
" quill, help me before i start blastin'. . . " Yeah, he was definitely not enjoying the attention. And though that threat was quite shallow, every second felt it getting more and more serious.

THERE IS NO FIGHTING THE smile that develops on his features as the hybrid delivers a less than stellar comeback. " furball? really? man it's a good thing i called. you're losing your touch. " To be fair to his former captain, there was quite a bit of doubt that anyone on this planet could match his wit. When a silver tongue is sharpened by the strongest 'blade', it's bound to go dull after a lack of exposure to it. There was no cause for concern. Rocket would step in and hone that blade.
" what's your flarkin' address? i'm walkin' down this street and these stupid humans keep lookin' at me. they act like they've never seen a HERO before. " The murmurs in the background had grown much more frantic. While some did recognize him from the news, others stood dumbfounded by the fact that a raccoon was TALKING. You'd think after all these alien visits they'd be more accustomed to it.

THERE'S A VISIBLE RECOIL as the familiar voice booms through the speaker. That one exclamation served as sufficient evidence to suggest that the former captain's emotional state hadn't improved much since being back on Earth. Always yelling about every little thing. 'Rocket don't touch that!' 'Rocket leave my stuff alone!' The refrain so common that even his overly sensitive ears had learned to tune it out. The communicator met the side of his face as the ringing in his ear subsided.
" quit ya' yellin', star-munch. don't need to give me hearin' damage. you still on this dirtball you call a planet? "
The vagueness of his words and avoidance of the questions was quite premeditated. Hints of a playful tone danced on every word, hopefully serving as sufficient enough of an answer. A quota had spilled out of its proverbial cup and annoyance was owed. No matter how many star systems separated them, the captain would find a way to clear that docket.
