Headcanon Dump
Merlin created the Sinsโ Sacred Treasures, with the exception of Chastiefol and Aldan.
Merlin has ADHD. She fidgets and hyper-focuses and can, at times, be quite impulsive.
She is also very picky about her clothing and doesnโt like the feeling of most pants. She likes having cozy, covered arms though.
Sheโs a polyglot and an absolute nutย for foreign languages.
As a kid, she sleep-talked a lot. On rare occasions, she still does murmur in her sleep.
She uses magic frivolously in the presence of others (i.e. teleporting, floating) as an intimidation tactic. However, she prefers to serve a support and strategic role in combat to conceal her battling power, giving her the advantage of surprise if and when she finally does engage.
Her teasing attitude is a protective facade. Meliodas is the only person she will demonstrate emotions around, since she dislikes the vulnerability inherent in others knowing her feelings.
Routine soothes her.
She doesnโt like using fire spells in battle.
She basically conditioned herself to be an insomniac and doesnโt require much sleep any more. Her record is five days with no sleep.
Zero physical flexibility. She canโt touch her toes.
She never knew her mother, but she really wishes she did. Her father never spoke of her, but to this day she has a very specific mental image of what she might have been like.
Baby Merlin had a hot temper.
She will rarely tell a bold-faced lie, but rather lie by omission.
Favorite color/s are shades of indigo.
Being the Snack Queen of the Seven Deadly Sins means she often forgets or forgoes real meals. Escanor and Meliodas remind her.ย
Although she knows the theory and biology behind it, Merlin has never menstruated, as her adult body is artificial and frozen in time.
Bra size is US 36C

This is a completely random idea, but I'm wondering how the Sins would be at solving a murder mystery.
Oh man. So I assumed you meant some type of dinner show and not a real murder mystery. Ready for this?
Merlin would Sherlock that sh-t and use straight logic to solve the crime in five minutes flat.
Diane would not be very serious. Sheโs just got her deerstalker hat on and is poking a magnifying glass into the most ridiculous of places. Admittedly, theyโre all spots that might be good to look at in a real murder situation, but for a murder mystery itโs just ridiculous. King, as per usual, just drifts along with her. This dork is way too distracted by how cute she is to bother trying to solve the mystery (even though he totally could). Every once and a while he suggests getting back on track, but Diane is quickly diverted again.
Ban and Meliodas areโฆ well they try. At first they look like theyโre going be a pair, but then one of them said something about carrying the team on their own. Both of them get super competitive and try to solve it alone, each also trying to impair the other as much as he can. The staff is so overwhelmed they just give them all the clues at once and go to the other side of the room. It doesnโt helpโif anything, they fight more now that itโs possible to keep clues from each other. Occasionally Merlin drops by to give them fake clues.
Escanor cried when they were describing the premiseโsomeone forgot to give him the memo that it was just dinner entertainment. Once he got himself together, he teamed up with Hawk and Elizabeth. Theyโre slow and tedious and mostly clueless, but do well all things considered.
Gowther got bored during the exposition and left. Nobodyโs sure where he went but heโs Hawkโs primary suspect.

Son of a button I think Meliodas gave Merlin her name. Not the โMerlinโ aliasโthat she chose for herselfโbut her true name, her demon name, that she shouldnโt even be able to pronounce. Why would a human father dub a weapon for humanity with a demon name? It doesnโt make sense. But the prince of the demons, still fully committed to his clan and his birthright when he helped her escape from Belialuin, he would.

Do you think in over roughly 3000 years Merlin has taken any lovers? Or do you think she's only had lovers as a means to an end/advantageous relationships to her? I was just curious ^^
I think Merlinโs relationship with romance (particularly with men) is kind of jacked thanks to her father and her weird thing for Meliodas. Sheโs never needed much in the way of companionship, either. I can totally see her taking a lover for pleasure and entertainment. The second she realized sheโs catching feelings, though, sheโd split.
Long story short: did she take lovers sometimes in the last three millennia? Yes. It just wouldnโt have been the touchy-feely romanticย kind of relationships; sheโd keep herself at armโs length.
For roleplay shipping purposes on the other hand... if she and another character fit well together, Iโll throw headcanon andย canon right out the window.

Part of why Merlin sometimes seems so detached, even callous with the way she experiments with / uses her magic is because of how she responds to novelty in general. The same moment she becomes aware that she can do something, she itches to do it. When an opportunity presents itself, only dire circumstance or pressing priorities can stay her. Once she knows how a certain spell or piece of magic works, the desire to use it recedes.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Selections from Merlinโs Bookshelf ย #2: ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Practical Theories of Spell-casting ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย
Theories, headcanon, and blog-canon regarding magic in the world of Nanatsu no Taizai. Subject to change according to canon revelations. Under a read-more, because itโs long.
thelgology - the study of magic mageyology - the study of sorcery phylachtology - the study of talismans/amulets/magical items katarology - the study of enchantments epodรญonology - the study of healing magic
A spell is best defined as a specific way in which magical power affects an environment of choice. Hand motions and naming of specific magical effects is not strictly necessary to cast a spell. However, most magic users require such practices to channel and control magic, and even the most advanced find them to be a useful aid. This definition is broad, and allows for the magical effects of non-sentient creatures and magical items to be considered spells, which is a highly contested claim. This debate and particular concessions to our concept of a spell will be discussed later in this text. For the majority of our purposes, however, this definition will suffice.
Magic use can broadly be sorted into one of several loose categories: racial ability, spell-casting, and enchantment. In formal language terms, these are thelgology, mageyology, and phylachtology. The first is the least understood of magical application, and the last the most hotly contested in its theory, and the middle the primary focus of this text. Both of the others will be first touched upon briefly in order to provide a context within which we may understand mageyology and spell-casting. An obscure subcategory of phylachtoloty known as epodรญonology is briefly touched upon as well, but is largely irrelevant.
Theglology
Racial abilities and the nature of that school of magic are poorly understood. The best consensus scholars have reached is that racial abilities are characterized by channeling magic (often subconsciously) to be utilized as an additional limb, sense, or muscle. Magic is intuitively manifested as an extension of the userโs physical characteristics. Capability with this magic develops as the individualsโ body and mind mature. Fairykind demonstrate the most prominent and often-utilized manifestation of racial magic.
Mageyology Strength types (magic augments physical abilities and relies upon brute force or a direct effect on the physical world), magic typesย
Phylachtology
Some objects possess magic in such a way that they can produce spell-like effects upon their environments. Certain objects contain the magic naturally and/or intrinsically, for reasons unknown. Others have the magic imbued into them by an external force.ย Only mages can imbue a non-living, non-sentient object with a magical property.
** gowther -- ย difference between gowther and a magical object? whatโs the difference or relationship between imbuing magic into an object and casting an enchantment upon the object? **ย
Katarology
Although they may seem similar to the uninitiated, a mageโs spellwork and enchantment are two wholly different practices that the sorcerer or apprentice must not confuse.
Enchantments are significantly complex constructs woven by capable magicians. They are best described as magical entities which are built by, but remain separate of, the magic-user that calls upon them. It is this property which distinguishes katarology from its sister fields of magic, as it affords enchantments several unique properties.ย
The most significant of these is the relative accessibility of enchantment magic. Enchantments are most often called up or activated by words and motions, known here as โsummoning componentsโ. In this way they are similar to other magic.ย However, unlike more common spells, any individual familiar with channeling magic of any sort can cast an enchantment if they know the appropriate summoning components. Consequently, in order to prevent accidental use, an enchantmentโs creator will usually ensure that the attached words are arcane, made-up for the situation, or at least exceedingly rare in usage.
The second unique property which enchantments are in possession of is their immutability. They are not extensions of a sorcerer or spell-caster like common spells, but rather exist and enact change independently of any creator or user. Thus, enchantments can be suppressed and counteracted by spellwork, but they cannot be overwritten, destroyed, or canceled by an untrained individual.
How enchantments are created, precisely, is a secret closely guarded by those groups from which all known enchantments originated -- namely, the demons and the goddesses. Based upon the relative lack of success by human and druid mages to replicate this magic, it is assumed that a staggering amount of magical power is required for an individual to build an enchantment.
Epodรญonology
Epodรญonology -- healing magic -- bears strongest resemblance in form to katarology, and indeed shares many principles. Most healing magic in fact is achieved through the use of enchantments created by the goddesses; the druids presumably possess of numerous healing enchantments passed down to them by their benefactors in ancient times.

writing your url to come later
Merlin and Meliodas have a lot of history together, and for that reason alone her relationship with him is unique. There is a deep trust between them as well as an awareness that they could both destroy the other with what they know about them. Merlin wonโt hesitate to put him in check if necessary and trusts him to do the same for her. Meliodas usually lets her do her own thing and rolls with whatever that is; she values this faith remarkably deeply (for her) and may actually go to lengths to maintain it.
What is most important and special about their relationship is that Merlin actually cares for her Captain. Most people are, for Merlin, nothing more than present. She does not entirely see most individuals as people and instead forms detached โfriendshipsโ based on utility. This is not how she views Meliodas.
What does Merlin think of your muse?

โ : Opinion on killing
โNot killing is often a luxury people do not have. Death is necessary and a part of life, even if another sentient being is the cause of it.โ
Itโs no secret that every single one of the Seven Deadly Sins has killed, even the two still within a human lifespan. After 3,000+ years Iโd imagine Merlin has been desensitized to it. I have my doubts as to how much value she places on an individual life to begin with, especially in any kind of combat or self-preservation situation. That said, Heaven help whoever touches one of herย โfriendsโ.
โ: Opinion on lying
โIsnโt real honesty hollow if there are not those who never tell the truth?โ
I honestly believe that she finds lying and being lied to amusing. She herself is a riddle wrapped in a mystery wrapped in an enigma, and to keep that aura of mysteriousness requires lying. More often than not, sheโll lie by omission; bold-faced lies are difficult to keep consistent, so she just wonโt tell you anything. She also really doesnโt mind being lied toโif anything, itโs an inconvenient delay but fun to wheedle around their secrecy to get what she wants to know anyway. Also mind games are entertaining.
#[[ whee! thanks for the ask!#I love poking around her psyche and figuring out more about her haha ]]#hendricksin#โ ๐๐๐ธ / ๐๐๐ ๐พ๐ธ#โ ๐ฝ๐๐ถ๐น๐ธ๐ถ๐๐๐#โ ๐ถ๐๐๐
