no one is more doomed by the narrative than my pals/lomls special agents dana scully & fox mulder!!!!!! 

i just started season 9 and tell me why i couldn’t bring myself to go beyond the first two episodes out of sheer frustration at the writing choices 😭(i will try again to continue at a later date)

season 8 had its flaws but at the very least gave us a somewhat decent through line and importantly a solid ending for mulder and scully, and their love, faith and strength in each other. 

And while i haven’t watched anything beyond s9 e1&2, i did not save myself from spoilers, so i do know what is coming – and still i was so put off by just these two episodes because it did not make sense to me!!! (so lord knows how i will feel trying to get through the rest of the season … and the second movie … and the revival mytharc additions …)

in what world would scully be the one to push mulder to leave!!! after just getting him back!!! and mulder would fully have put up a fight about staying and protecting both scully and william if there was still a threat (which i was also just like ??? what was happening in the s8 finale then, but i digress). 

scully, who says she has the strength of mulder’s beliefs, who asks for forgiveness because she cannot be with him on this journey anymore when she thought a life threatening illness would take her, who does not trust anyone else to care for him, to look out for his needs, to save him from himself the way that she does, would not have just let mulder leave like that, on the word of kersh saying that ppl are out to kill him (people are always out to kill mulder tho, why was this different?!). 

and mulder, knowing what he knows, knowing that both scully and william are at risk would not walk away like that, especially because there is no indication that him not being there somehow eliminates the threats that scully and william face? Mulder who would break into government facilities (any facility actually), who would threaten every last man in his path if it means keeping scully safe, who would literally go to the ends of the earth for scully and who JUST got his family, would not just up and leave like that. And definitely would not leave the figuring things out to just scully, esp when she is also concerned about william and his capabilities. 

in sheer frustration i went back to some of my favourite episodes in the earlier seasons and that was both soothing and also mind blowing because it really puts into perspective the growth, trauma and healing that both mulder and scully go through to get to the end of season 8. So to start off the ninth season with what i think is pretty poor writing and not very good storytelling was just sooooo 🥲 i get that dd had to leave, i get that there needed to be more focus on doggett and reyes, but the way that happened was sooo not it!! (how did y’all survive the original run omg! in all honestly idk if i could’ve continued back then, not having hindsight).

@randomfoggytiger has a great post on what was going on in the writer’s rooms/bts around s7, s8 and s9 – which was a great read for me post watching these s9 episodes, bc it validated some of my frustrations. 

It clearly seems like the team was focused more on telling certain stories, without really thinking about how the story would be told with the characters that they currently have. So it felt like mulder/scully (and from what I’ve heard other characters too) are regressing into behaviours/choices simply because it’s convenient for the story -- which is not good writing imo!!

Personally, I find it interesting that the focus was on what stories can we tell to keep people interested, instead of how can we preserve the legacy/joy/comfort in these beloved character journeys with the new stories we want to tell. 

And because of that so many awfullllll things happened!!!! Mulder and Scully were forced into situations only by the narrative, not by their character arcs, and what a shame that it was that way!! 

Anyway, i still love m/s with my whole heart and will continue to grind my way through the rest of the show, albeit very very very slowly. So grateful for the very active x files community (again speaks volumes to the fact that it's the characters that shaped the show/stories) so that i can drown myself in fanfic and gif sets and artwork and meta!!!! 👽🛸

Happy holidays there folks!

I'll keep it sweet, short n' simple. Another solid enough year flew by, and a fuckton of ya are still around and kicking. That's good, s'how it should be! I don't really have anything deep to bring to the table of talk here, but, just keep on enjoying the hobby here without having the externals or internals tear ya a new one.

All things considered, hopping on the dash to write up some stuff and fuck off to the void is very much enjoyable. That's how I always like my RP blogs ran from the onset. I've been satisfied in the amount of interactions and 'What ifs' explored with my muses here. Speaking of, I gotta say that Lighter joining my roster has been a hell of a success.

It really did wind up turning into the Zenless era in a way. Still have to give the game props, but hitting that modern supernatural/beat em up edge has been stellar. Despite being a veritable doomsday scenario, seeing how much heart and charm that game has really did go n' hook me to the case. In short, I'm doomed.

Anyways! Enough yapping here, roll on out there and do your thing as you see fit.

Rea Goto, 19

A rising star in the Digi-Colosseum, Rea has no official backing of a sponsor or team like all the others. Often overlooked, her surprising win-loss record has left many baffled. This is due, in part, to the long time she's spent with her Partner Digimon, meaning they fight in sync with little issue.

All the more needed as, in the Digi-Colosseum, battles are fought with Human and Digimon as one. Fused into a single powerful being, it is equal parts an awe-inspiring and dangerous game they all play.

Rea's experience, however, does not begin and end with her face on the big screens around the arena. She's also been sighted countless times out in the streets of the Material and Digital world stopping crimes as best as she can. This often times gets her in direct conflict with the higher-ups of the Digi-Colosseum, as fusing with a Digimon outside is heavily frowned upon and liable to get her banned.

This means little to her, however, as someone with power doesn't have the right to it if they aren't willing to use it. Something her father drilled into her at a young age before he disappeared.

All of this culminating in why she was in the Digi-Colosseum's ranks in the first place: The grand prize. An unfettered wish to be granted. One that she'd had since she was little: knowing where her father is. Something she has to make come true no matter what.

my canon timeline consists of

The 57th Exterior Scouting Mission arc,

MPs trying to retain their hold on Eren and putting Laura as a representative to make sure the Survey Corp don't just run off with Eren should their expedition fail (they fucking right though-) because she's the only one with experience for the expeditions and titans ; and god does she hate that.

During the Female Titan arc., I think she's warmed up to Eren by this point. Because god does he remind her of herself, but also that rage of humanity and fight that she once held; though his more honourable then her previous self.

She wouldn't want him to be executed by then. She'd want to buy them more time to figure something out. They wouldn't tell her details of their plan, of course, because what happens in Stohess was inexcusable. God she'd be so unbelievably pissed and once again, her distain for the survey corps would rise; but she's also in too deep -- those remnants of her old self are back, and it's not so easily distinguished. She has loyalty in her heart for people she actually cares about.

Evacuation and the aftermath of the fight are where her priorities are redirected; because you know she'd want to kill the Titan herself, and its a battle of protecting people and fighting. But she also will support Niles decisions ; she was still an MP.

Clash of the Titans arc

The events in Wall Rose afterwards she's not involved in much ; not on the frontlines. Finding out Eren is kidnapped, she'd want to go -- because o h shit, that's right, she cares about these people now, because oh look she can actually show care for the soldiers younger then her ; she doesn't really care much that he's a titan and his role is important, he's just important as he is, human, with passion in his eyes and heart. ** on the fence whether she goes or stays with nile -

Royal Government arc

She would liaise with the Survey Corps behind MPs backs, because her heart was always with them; or rather, for her its no longer about sides, but doing what she feels is right to her.

She has such an active role when it comes to the nobles in the next arc. and especially the MPs. Because her actions aren't unnoticed. And her father has high connections in the government. First Interior Squad knows what's up. And also, the reveal of the anti-odm gear would be something she would never approve of ; for someone who'd criticise the survey corps, having things meant to take them out would make her protective. Even killing Erwin wasn't okay in her eyes ; and she has a lot to say about that man, and never anything pleasant.

If she tried to conceal Eren's location, or help the survey corps in any way, she'd out herself, and be seen as a traitor alongside them. She knows of Historia, watched over the 104th Training Corps members, the new levi squad, as much as she could. If there's interrogation, it's definitely outside of Nile's knowledge ; but, at least, all the beauty she was known for would take a huge hit. She'd be released when the coup happens, her hair ripped and uneven, and definitely shorter once she tends to it. She loses a few nails of her own ; and isn't especially keen to be touched in the aftermath. Except, if it came to Historia, who she finds herself understanding given her childhood, and the lack of love they both shared ; also, for real though, Laura also looks a lot like frieda which I never noticed until rewatching it - but also, they hold themselves so differently that they also don't look anything alike on that alone. and yes, the younger ones are also fine, she isn't a touchy person but god, knowing they are safe? she ignored the pit in her stomach to hug them.

Return to Shiganshina arc

She's going on that mission to shiganshina and no, you're not stopping her. I need her there for her own reflection on the past she tried to forget, and also because you know who's fucking going on that mission ; marlo, her absolute boy. You can bet the death of all the new, younger recruits, was hard on her; as someone who is now developed to nurture and protect the newer generation (she's only 28 but that means old in the aot universe its hard to survive) ; the cart titan? it had to go, die, she will end you. bastards don't get to do all this and have an escape option. The option over Erwin and Armin? She actually shows restraint and maturity for once in her life, despite yes, having blade in hand, because the choice is only Armin, you're wrong, she also leaves the choice to the others ; and puts trust that it will be the right one.

everyone in the walls are basically united now, so there's no differing factions.

Marley arc

still a w.i.p but she's going to have to beat some sense into this little shit- oh hey cart titan, still eyeing you but we fineee. thank god laura doesn't drink, only on the rarest of occasions like before the return to shiganshina. Niles death would hit her deep. She was always about only protecting the people she cared about, so she understands eren's motivation, but she's also not about killing families and children ; next generation is all they can put hope in to fix the world, that means on both sides - no euthanasia plan (it wouldn't affect her anyway; she lost the chance to have anymore kids during the fall of wall maria). She'll rebuild the outside world ; because at least there's nothing here that can contain her anymore, she can just live freely ; which means healing from everything up until this point, another struggle in its own, but thankfully theirs a lot more people who need a lot more support, so you're stuck with her.

The Fall of Shiganshina arc

she's a complete mess and mostly hospitalised for many months ; don't visit her, she has nothing but hate and no will to keep going, and she's finally succumb to her biggest fear; failure. as a mother, as someone strong, as someone who held any hope in their exploration of the outside; of any true freedom to be found. it would always get taken so long as they kept pushing back against titans. Also, a year later, when she's newly appointed to the MPs .

OVA / ACWNR

she's within the timeline of this ova, which is extremely entertaining for me because - underground criminals? in her dorms? suspicious, up to something, she's fucking watching you. Isabel would, unfortunately, grow on her a bit ; but also be the one who continuously gives her grief and vice versa, but out on the field you have to protect your own, background and personality preference aside. it's not stalking ; it's making sure you don't get in the way, or do anything shady. bet you have a knife on you at all times. try it on me, dare you. they good with ODM? ... fuckers. bastards. scoundrels. now she's out training again until her bones break. won't be outclassed, only she can be the strongest.

so, anecdote time! did you know I started watching link click because, aside from the fanart and thinking the dive back in time video looked cool, I saw someone someone recommend link click alongside tgcf. and I was thinking, "oh if they put link click and tgcf in the same sentence, then they think link click is just as good as tgcf. guess I'll check it out." I think I also started watching the daily life after tgcf lol.

actually now it makes more sense why there was an episode (I forgot which season) in the daily life of the immortal king where they referenced both tgcf and link click. I thought that was all because they were under bilibili. no!!! it was because they were all directed by the same guy!!!!

damn. lh0 had me in his clutches before I even KNEW who he was. love his works, but I gotta expand my donghua experience beyond this one guy, man. well, I can at least be sure this time that he won't be involved in lord of the mysteries right? 😭
