What do you think of MHA atla AUs? !:)

You mean like in general? bc hell yeah I LOVE an atla au!! historically one of my favorite universes to set an au in! I actually haven't stumbled upon many for MHA, so if anyone has any recommendations to add to my reading list pls send them my way <3

I did once see some waterbender Aizawa art on pinterest that slapped severely but I don't remember who the artist was :(

more very very disorganized ramble-y thoughts about this under the keep reading because now I'm pondering:

So, the thing about an atla au is that some characters' elements are really obvious. Like, Dabi, Endeavor, even Bakugou would probably be firebenders; someone like Kirishima or Tetsutetsu would be an earthbender (didn't Toph even make rock armor a few times in the series?) But how would you go about resolving a character like Todoroki? my instinct is to say fire because Zuko handshake meme etc, but he DOES have an ice power as well.

I'm tempted to say Present Mic is an airbender bc ✨vibes✨ but I'm not 100% sold--that might just be my airbender bias showing lol. but Shirakumo was definitely an airbender I think. What I DO know is that Vlad King 'Of My Heart' is a waterbender bc bloodbending. (But take a character like Monoma. What do you even do with Monoma?? Maybe he can hang out with the homies who were using inventions to fake (one might say COPY) airbending techniques in the Northern Air Temple?)

(Also, why am I just now noticing the parallels between the reincarnation of the avatar and Aang's access to his past lives and the OFA lineage/vestiges... Much to think about...)

Monoma did his best when trying to keep others from seeing he was upset. Perhaps it was self pride that made him do it. However, he had known Itoshi for a long time and well-.. he knew him better than most.

      Nevertheless, the blonde offered a slight smile “It’s nothing really” - A call... His parents who he hadn’t talk to in weeks... perhaps months? had called him. A mix of anxiety and excitement that only proved his fears when their disapproved tone could be heard muffled through the speaker.

       Class 1A this... Class 1A that, grades and failures and losing his fights. ‘Why go to UA if you’re not going to even try, Neito?’. He found himself slipping into another one of his oh so pleasant episodes, accidently snapping on one of his own classmates which hurt him greatly.

“Mother and Father called, that’s all” Looking over from his spot where he sat, having found a quiet and lonely place to calm down until the other came and sat with him “Like I said, I’m fine”

    Monoma looked over and a fond look was casted on his features. He didn’t like 1A, at least the majority, but from the very beginning he has always had an eye on Uraraka. Ever since the sports festival, he knew she wasn’t someone to underestimate and he was right from the get go. 

A nod as he took his place “You’re precise, I’ll give you that- and don’t worry I’ll keep your blind side covered” He had tagged someone near the beginning, along with her later on to use her quirk once the other ran out “Do you have a plan, Uravity? I have full faith in you”

    Monoma was not expecting that to come out of Itoshis mouth, and rightfully so. Feeling a lump in his throat and just found himself nervously staring at the other in some sort of disbelief, not even taking into account the burning cheeks.

He had been distracted, lost in his own head with swirling thoughts from that simple phrase until he blinked. Taking a moment to process what was going on before a stuttered out laugh “excuse me, what?”

Monoma was surprisingly very calm 

    Despite the injury and annoyed huff that came from his mouth. Not at the other- but more so at himself and the thought of needing stitches in the first place. “You think? That’s going to look horrible on me”

A sigh as he shrugs “very well it can’t be avoided”

There was genuine worry-

For his class, his teacher and he even found himself asking about the kids from 1A when he could. Monoma felt lucky but knew there was guilt lingering there. Coming out okay with just a few small injuries, practically unscathed..he knew some were not as lucky.

Making his rounds to check on the others when he came passed a room with the door open, noticing the other sitting there possibly lost in thought. Trying to make up his mind if he should approach to check on them, not everyone would be delighted to see him and he didn’t blame them at this point.
