“you’re a human!” she announces, as though seeing another person is something unusual.  she thrusts her hands out in front of her, fingers splayed wide. “i’m a human too!”

the sound of tiny, bare feet slapping against the ground is all that precedes the appearance of the little girl in red.  she blinks wordlessly up at the stranger before grasping his hand and tugging it no less than three times.

“ F I S H !! ”  ponyo would recognize hair like that anywhere.  she has never seen a fish on wheels before, but she is determined to catch it!  arms spread wide, she drops into a run, barreling straight for the boy and his bike.

she would RATHER he carried her, but this is fine, too.  her little hand grasps the fabric of murphy’s pant leg -- she had tried to grab his hand, but found it tucked snugly in his pocket, so she makes do.  she is humming tunelessly, the kind of disjointed melody only a child could write, when she sees motion in the distance.  something brown and -- soft! it looks soft!
“ what’s that? what’s that? “ she asks, jumping up and down as she points to the deer with her free hand.

“i wrote about the ocean!” ponyo announces, brandishing a piece of paper with beaming pride.  she has not, in fact, written about the ocean.  she has not written anything.  she has scribbled wildly across a page in blue and drawn a few ugly orange fish on it.  humans, it turns out, have something called CRAYONS.
