A Season to Hold Close
Pairing: Anna/Kristoff

Word: 382
Anna shivered as she stuffed her hands in the pocket of the towering blonde beside her, thankful that the world had blessed her with a boyfriend who had body heat like a furnace. He was so tall and his clothes were so big that she could fit both hands in comfortably.
It was the annual Arendelle Christmas Festival and Anna has succeeded in dragging her introverted boyfriend out into socialization. Despite showing his major disinterest in it, she knew that he secretly loved it; especially since it meant spending time with her. As per tradition, they were slowly making their way around the Christmas tree walk, taking time to admire the festive ornaments adorning the branches and comparing them to the ones from the year before. Anna just loved how each of the shops and dining places took time out of their busy schedules to decorate a tree themed around their place. It was simply the most magical time of the year.
He turned to look down at the change of the movement beside him and smirked, “What? Was four cups of cocoa not enough for you?”
She scrunched up her nose at his teasing. “For your information mister, I had only limited myself to three cups today.”
“Pretty sure I remember you drinking mine as well.”
“Well, you said you didn’t want anymore! I mean come on, someone would have to be a monster to let chocolate go to waste.” She crossed her arms and gave a little huff. “Besides…it was half gone so therefore it doesn’t count HA!”
“Whatever you say feisty,” he replied and gave a little chuckle.
Feeling bold, Anna bumped his hip causing him to shift in place. “Besides, who needs cocoa when I have a big mountain man to warm me up later,” giving a flirtatious little wink.
Continuing on to the next tree, Kristoff moved her dainty hands to clasp them with his own, completely enveloping them before he brought them up to his chapped lips to place a kiss on each knuckle.
“Probably would have helped if you didn't forget your gloves on the kitchen counter though,” he grinned, tweaking her nose.
Anna’s response was to free her other hand and give him a light pinch in the rib causing him to yelp.

@princeisles asked: "You know, for a pampered princess, you have a certain gift for violence."
It took everything in Anna's power to resist letting her hand collide with Hans' face as she had done some years prior. But given that she was now the ruler of Arendelle, she decided it was best to swallow her anger, push her shoulders back and hold her head high as she made her response.
"First off; It's Qualified Queen and secondly; SAYS THE MAN WHO TRIED TO KILL MY SISTER AND I."

Which Disnry Princess do you think would looked adorable dressed as Pinocchio?
stop it I had so much fun with this 💛
my first instinct was Snow, i think for obvious reasons. I just think she'd make it look so cute. but Anna would wear it pretty well too i think. his suspenders reminded me of Oaken's and i may or may not have seen both him and Pinocchio in lederhosen in my brain 😬

and then i had an idea, my brain tends to drift towards my people redheads. may I offer you ...
thanks for coming to my ted talk 💛

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the broadway version basically the first Frozen film, so essentially connected to the second one as well? So shouldn't you be using a faceclaim who's Sami?
god I've literally been back for less than 24hrs
ahem. so yes, the musical is more-or-less the first film expanded upon. and yes, Frozen 2 does confirm Anna & Elsa are half-Northuldran on their mother's side. and yes, Walt Disney Studios has confirmed the Northuldra, the indigenous population trapped by the mist in the enchanted forest, are partially based on Norway's Sami people.
now I'd like to point out a few things.
first, I have been writing Elsa since 2013, when the first movie came out. I have used Lily James as a secondary/modern/as-needed faceclaim since that time. second, I situate Arendelle in modern/"real-world" verses in Denmark, since Frozen is based on The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, a Danish author. third, and I cannot stress this enough, Arendelle and the Northuldra are fictitious, they are not exact representations of any one indigenous population, rather, as the studio has said, they can represent the subjugation of many different indigenous persons across Europe and North America. using any one particular indigenous actress might come close, but nothing would be 100% accurate to a people that was invented for animation. they are not, for example, absolutely based on real Columbian people like the characters of Encanto.
yes, Elsa is half-Danish and half-Northuldran, but she's also not entirely human at all – she is a spirit gifted to Arendelle in somewhat human form. if we want to get into the nitty-gritty of genetics, she wouldn't have blonde hair with her parents. it's scientifically impossible.
now I want to be clear I'm not trying use ~magic~ as an excuse to whitewash. I just think it's a bit odd to have someone jump in my inbox not 24 hours after I come back to writing Elsa and point out a faceclaim I barely even use. 90% of my icons are icons of the various musical actresses from bootlegs of the show. I only chose Lily back in the day because I felt she had the right expressions/mannerisms/costumes for Elsa. no, she isn't Danish, but as someone of white European descent, I wouldn't care if a British person played me when I'm technically Dutch. I will say straight out I am not of indigenous descent, so I won't speak for any such community, but I am also aware actresses that are half-Sami are pretty few and far between. if someone wants to suggest one to me that might work for Elsa, I am very open to it! but I want to circle this back to the fact that I really don't use icons super often anymore anyway. half my partners are iconless so I am moving more in that direction.
also, just as an aside, actresses of several different races and ethnicities have played Elsa and Anna and their parents in the musical, because it is a fictional, magical world. yes, based on the real one, but nonetheless, having a black Elsa or Anna or a Filipino Anna or a Japanese Elsa (all of which we have had in the stage show) hasn't undermined the story.
I would never claim Elsa's connection to the Northuldra is anything other than very important to her character, but I think nit-picking this element of my blog I don't even use often feels to me a bit more performative than actually helpful, especially when sent as an anon and not approaching as an actual conversation. I am always available via DM if you'd like to chat, though.
#again I'm not trying to make excuses but#half white european half indigenous european in a magical enchanted forest with genetically impossible features#for icons I use maybe 10% of the time#I just... I write a great deal about her connection to the northuldran mythology#so it's not as if I'm trying to erase her connection to it#so idk this just strikes me as picking an argument over not much but again#please just DM me if you are indigenous and feel otherwise I am more than happy to listen#ɪ ᴄᴀɴ'ᴛ ᴡᴀɪᴛ ᴛᴏ ᴅɪᴇ ɪɴ ᴀ sɴᴏᴡʙᴀɴᴋ╰ out of.

A new fic!
Please let me know what you guys think of this idea and if you'd want to read it. I know I've started things in the past and haven't finished them, so I'd want to make sure I have a bit more before posting so I'm confident I can finish. I'm on summer break now, so I'd have plenty of time to work on it (it could become the piece I work on when I need a break from editing my novel). I have about 8,000 words already which I think would make up the first two chapters, but I definitely want to see if there's interest before I consider making this a real story.
A brief summary:
Enchanted Forest AU (with some timeline twisting because I want characters to line up, obviously) featuring Princess Emma who's barely the princess of anything anymore. Her kingdom is in ruins, her parents and brother Leo captured by the Evil Queen, and all she's got is Red and her lifetime of survival training (badass!Emma, folks).
Red and Emma get passage on a ship to take them to Arendelle (because we all know I love writing Elsa and Anna), but Emma immediately takes a disliking to Captain Silver, and she finds out why fairly quickly. He's got two slaves, brothers, who she promptly saves before taking over the ship and throwing Silver in the brig where he belongs. This story would continue with Emma, Red, and the Jones brothers as they try to get some allies of their own. Also, if you're looking for a redemption arc, you wouldn't get it here. She's just the Evil Queen in this one, and I'd rather not undercut everything she's done by making her 'good' at the end. I'm also toying with the idea of Emma discovering her magic and learning about it during the plot.
Emma's about 22 (maybe...ish?) and Killian would be around 25. Leo is a teenager (because I'd like to actually give him a character in this one). I'm thinking of maybe including Will Scarlet, August, and some others (suggest some if you'd like) to join them on their journey. (Yes, in this timeline Killian and Liam wouldn't have joined the navy. I'm taking creative liberties so this story can happen.)
All I need from you guys is for you to let me know if you're interested. And if you've got ideas, a trope you'd like to suggest, or absolutely anything else you can think of, I'll certainly hear it. I can't promise I'll include it, but if I think it'll work, I'll go for it. As I said, I've already got a good start on this. If people are interested, it shouldn't take me too long to get a plot outlined and a few thousand more words so I'm comfortable posting, and then it'd likely be a weekly/biweekly basis that I'd post, but I write a lot faster these days (yay for ADHD meds!), so it could be faster. This started as a fun idea I wanted to play with and I hit 8,000 words no problem, so with a little motivation and a schedule, this could turn into something really cool.

Hey, Nonny! Sorry for taking a while to reply, I wanted to make sure that I gave this the appropriate amount of time and thought, as it’s a subject that I think warrants a lot of care. Also I can’t seem to reply directly from my inbox, I think maybe Xkit is f-ing up at the moment, so sorry for the weird formatting as well!
Before I get into my opinion on the film, I think it’s important to clarify a couple of things.
1) I am part of the American Sámi diaspora. I have regrettably never lived in Sápmi (although if I thought my husband would let me drag him up there, I would be on a plane tomorrow), and my Sámi heritage is also something I have only recently begun the process of reconnecting to. My Sámi ancestor immigrated from Sweden to the United States to escape persecution and forced assimilation, so when they arrived here, they tried very hard to blend in with other Scandanavian immigrants and did not pass their language and culture down to their children. As such, I have not grown up in the culture and was raised in a very typically white midwest family, and so I don’t have the same lived experiences as a Sámi person who has grown up in Sámi culture in a country where racism against our people is still very much alive and well. I could write a whole separate post on what it means to be a white-passing indigenous person living thousands of miles from their ancestral lands with only bits and pieces of their culture accessible, but that’s not what you’re asking about, so I’ll save that for another time. But I do want to be very transparent about this part of my identity and make it clear that I experience a level of privilege that many, many Sámi do not.
2) Sámi people, like any marginalized group, are not a monolith. We are all individuals with our own differing backgrounds and lived experiences, and because of that our opinions on things like this are not universal. So what I say in this post may vary from what you see from other Sámi people, and my opinion does not invalidate or negate theirs. We are all allowed to feel however we feel about issues that relate to the representation of our culture in media and the impact it has on our community. My opinion is my own and shouldn’t be taken as The Sámi Opinion™ on the matter. There are a lot of other posts about it from other Sámi folks, as you’ve noted, and I would encourage everyone to look at all of them to get a broader view of how the film has been received by our community.
SO. All that being said, here are my thoughts:
The Frozen franchise already had kind of a special place in my heart because of Kristoff. According to the original script from the first film, his character is “a young Sámi boy,” and it was my first time ever seeing a Sámi person represented in an animated film. And while Disney did not remotely do Sámi culture any justice in the first movie, it still felt nice to see my culture being recognized in a children’s film at all. So few people have even heard of us that just to be seen felt kinda good, even if the representation was… not great. LOL.
The second film was produced with the help of Sámi people who consulted on the representation of our culture, both in terms of the aesthetics and the way the Northuldra people’s lifestyle was depicted. It was MUCH better than the first film. However, it still had some issues. This is going to get a bit long so I’m going to put it under a cut.
I think there are a lot of Sámi who can identify with reconnecting to the culture, self certainly included. Centuries of forced assimilation have left a lot of us displaced and removed from our heritage and I think we saw some of ourselves in Anna and Elsa’s discovery of their mother’s Northuldra roots. But the idea that Anna and Elsa automatically get accepted into their culture just by virtue of… a shawl? It felt a little bit superficial to a lot of people, and I think that’s valid. The reconnection process is long and involves proceeding with an abundance of caution, care, and respect. None of us would be able to come in and say “Hey, I have this liidni, it belonged to my mum, so I no longer represent colonization and all the horrific things my family did to you guys, isn’t that great!?” That shit wouldn’f fly, LMAO.
And the idea that this person who hasn’t been raised in the culture can come in and claim her place without any work, and also happens to be a magical Chosen One archetype has some white savior overtones that are kind of uncomfortable, as well.
I also know that a lot of folks felt that the Northuldra fall into the “noble savage” trope, and I can definitely see that as well. So often the way indigenous people are portrayed boils down to Magical Nature People and it can be tiresome, because it leads to a lot of exotification/fetishization of our culture by outsiders. Like, Ryder’s last name is Nattura. It literally means nature in Icelandic. Of course nature is a huge part of indigenous culture, but we have interests and personalities beyond that and it would be nice to see those explored more in media.
And I’m also kind of salty about Kristoff not getting a proper reconnection, or really any explanation about his origins at all. I thought for sure that they were going to get into that, given his affinity for reindeer and the almost immediate brotherly bond he had with Ryder, but then… nada. I really need my soft Sámi boy to find his place and discover more about his own roots if there ever is a Frozen III. That and gay Elsa, those are my two demands from the Mouse, LOL.
But you know what? There were also parts of the film I really did love.
When Yelena called the Northuldra “people of the sun,” I legit got goosebumps. One of our creation stories explains that we were the children of the sun and the moon, and the seeds of that story are scattered all over Sámi culture. You can find our people referred to as “children of the sun” in some form in many places throughout history. Our flag has a large red and blue circle, which represents the sun and moon respectively. One of our most famous poets, Áillohaš, wrote a book called “Beaivi, Áhčážan,” or “The Sun, My Father.” Our national anthem refers to the Sámi as “Beaivvi bártniid,” sons of the sun. So to hear that referenced in the film was really something.
I also enjoyed the overt anti-colonial themes in the movie, with the dam representing the colonial oppression of indigenous people and Anna working to crumble it despite knowing it might mean the end of Arendelle. In recognizing the role some of her ancestors played in oppressing her other ancestors and doing “the next right thing” to correct it, she was showing that she was willing to face the ugly parts of her family’s history in order to truly embrace her heritage, and as someone with mixed indigenous and colonizer ancestry, I felt that in a big way.
So yeah… it definitely was not what I would call perfect representation, but then, I don’t think that media written about Sámi culture by non-Sámi people ever will be. Even the much-praised Klaus—which is a beautiful film, by the way, and I would literally die for Márgu—but even it had some room for improvement in the way we were portrayed. Still, I felt Frozen II had a lot of positives going for it and I’m hoping future installments in the franchise will continue to improve on indigenous representation, and that Disney will continue to involve our community in the discussion when doing so.
I hope that answers your question adequately, Nonny! Feel free to send another ask if you want me to expand on anything or provide any clarification. And thank you for the ask, and for listening and learning what you can about our culture. It means a lot!

@kathexismania asked: Hanzo Hasashi loves with heavy hands, soft kisses, thick unadmitted apologies oozing from the depths of his dark ambers and impassioned professions of his heart. His own silence may be a method of oppression, an unhealthy coping mechanism and self-decomposing guttural wound. If their love was a story told in verse, it would be woven out of the space between their expressive races. Everything is in the looks they give each other, or don’t tiveZ mismatched glances, stares of wonder, eating up as much light offered as they can out of one another. For most often, their love is sent out, carried and received through invisible signals, as interpretation and longevity are sometimes difficult (always difficult when he still harbors his past in the deep reserve of his heart). Regardless, he feels in his bones and marries, for love itself is an absolute necessity in the galaxy of his life. His laden impassioned wind will become smoldering enough in the expanse of the Queen’s chamber, as his shackled freedom leaves the Sentinel autonomous enough to perceive the politics of the empire, and yet - bound to be motionless in sacrificial protection should any threat of perilous events strike.
Slender fingers flipped through the pile of envelopes in her grip, glancing over unfamiliar names which only made the Queen more inclined to toss them into the flames, knowing their contents before there was even a chance for the letter opener to slice into the paper and reveal the so-called secrets within.
Professions of affection prettily scribbled onto pretty parchment in hopes to catch the eye of the sovereign of Arendelle.
Those frivolous, meaningless letters however were nothing but empty promises in her eyes. Such kind and gentle words beautifully inscribed that she could almost visualize these confessions as if they were being spoken aloud for all the world to hear. But fancy words would not tempt Anna as she had once fallen victim to such kindness before and caution weighed heavily upon her shoulders.
Love was often a topic of conversation for the young woman, having come to understand and accept that love is an emotion that takes on many forms, however the matter of her own heart was something Anna chose to remain silent on as doubts forever clouded her mind no matter who occupied its space. Invisible scars of the past still made her blood run cold and skin crawl, visualizing the man she had fully given her everything to with a sword lifted high over her head, aiming to kill.
So the monarch fiercely guarded her heart, finding it easier to take the time to open herself up little by little let release the latch on the flood gates. Love was not an open door. At least not in the way she once believed.
And even after all that; why would she ever accept anyone who had made no attempt to truly get to know her. The real her. Not a monarch of power but a woman who made mistakes, who laughed at her own jokes and cried behind closed doors.
Her eyes solemnly trailed from the letters in her hands to the Sentinel in her room, brows raising in piqued curiosity and deeper thought, finding herself right back on the matter of love. How many night they had spent conversing through the evening of their thoughts on important matters not only in the kingdom but to them, reliving the past and guiding each other through their shared pains. But the longer she stared into those piercing amber eyes, the more she began to question love, feeling those walls gradually rebuild themselves up brick by brick around her heart, fearing she would fall so far if she once again misread a mans true intentions. As someone such as Hanzo who surrounded himself with thick walls, Anna could never really determine what lied within his palace of solitude. It was like watching Pandora’s box, getting a glimpse inside but fearing what would happen should the lid fully lift and the truth between them was at last revealed.
How long would their secrets remain just that? Was it wrong for Anna to wonder what would happen if she indeed decided to open these notes of false affection or should she lie in wait and challenge Pandora and her damned box at the risk of her guarded heart being torn to shreds once more.
".............Hanzo." , she uttered softly, holding out the letters towards him. "Burn these for me, will you?" Her curious nature, she feared, would lead her down a path of mourning for her own sanity and broken heart, but she could not help but be tempted to wait just a little longer to see what chaos patiently lurked in hiding for the two of them.

Because I didn't like the ending so I criticized and analyzed Frozen 2 with my friends all the time. And thanks to that I also see the more positive aspects of this story. I just wish there would be a short film to fix or clarify the story. But I can assure you of this: Elsa is not selfish or loves magic, freedom more than Anna and Arendelle.
I totally agree with your last line there, dude, but it seems like the first part of your rant got lost in my inbox?? D:
I can’t find it here. Could you submit it again?

Attack on Titan! AU
Paring: Anna/Hans
Rating: T
*Sorry for grammatical errors. Please enjoy!
Year 845.
The only thing Anna can hear is the constant whistling in her ears followed by screaming and crying. The houses were destroyed by huge boulders of rock, a rock that was part of their walls, the same walls that had them for more than a hundred years.
The Titans.
Her father had disappeared and Elsa was pulling her by the hand while a guardian of the walls, Hannes, tried in turn to drag them away from their mother who had begged her to run away without her. Now Anna, tired and exhausted, fainted in the arms of Mr. Hannes with his mother’s scene impressed that was pulled out of the boulders that blocked it while being eaten by a giant.
…
She was too young to join in on the training corps and, finally, to choose the faction so appreciated but equally feared by everyone: the Survey Corps.
She had to do at least fifteen years so she would have to wait another five years.
Two years later her sister and their friend Kristoff could begin training, her sister told her often about all the training and how lucky they were to be led by the best captain and warrior Hans Westergard, called by all the strongest of humanity, and they did not exaggerate. The first time Anna saw him was when she was ten, two days before the fateful day of the attack. She had returned with his proud and stoic troops and the Special Operations Squad, of the Survey Corps only few people could enter in this special squad named also ‘Squad Westergard’, Anna had so much admiration for the Survey Corps and the fact that Captain Westergard was so young encouraged her to remain determined. And of course he could not forget when he glanced at her as he admired them, he did not smile at her, but continued with his stoic look and she drew back a frightened moment.
He had not changed at all. One day, months after Elsa’s and Kristoff’s enlistment, she slipped into the training camp and there he was shouting orders and reproaches.
Anna hid herself to be able to follow the trainings but as she tried to emulate someone she stumbled and fell, Hans turned and stared at her annoyed. Of course, to be a boy of twenty-three, he looked like a man who had lived hundred years.
Anna looked down, murmured some incomprehensible excuse and left.
Her time had finally arrived, the following month she would be admitted to the 144th Training Corps Cadet and from there choose her own faction. Everyone wanted to enter the Military Police or Garrison Corps to be as far away as possible from the giants but Anna remained of her idea.
“Anna please think back, you don’t have to do it.” Her sister said.
“I can not give up Elsa, I feel a fire burning inside. I want to help delivering humanity, I don’t want any other person to lose everything like us. “The 15-year-old said in tears.
…
“Soldiers!” The call of Captain Westergard made them all jump.
Hans Westergard passed from cadet to cadet, staring intensely, even the toughest ones gave in and swallowed, looking down.
“Name, age, origin.” He then said.
As everyone answered the question he added sarcastic comments, mocking them until her turn came.
He stopped and stared at her. “Are not you going to tell me your name?”
Anna swallowed, then brought a fist to her chest, a symbol of victory, and spoke loudly: “I’m Anna Andersen, I’m fifteen and I come from the Arendelle district!”
“So you’re Elsa’s sister and friend of Bjorgman, the same Anna who snuck into this camp a few years ago?”
Anna blushed. “Sir, Yessir.”
He stayed for a few more seconds to look at her then went on with indifference and after having humiliated properly the cadets announced that given his expeditions outside the walls the training of the recruits would go to Mr. Keith Shadis.
Great first impression Anna. The girl muttered to herself.
…
The first day went very badly. She had made a bad impression with Captain Westergard and apparently her new fellow cadets did not seem willing to make friends.
The second day was not so bad, he had at least tried to get to know his ‘friends’ better. He had made friends with Eugene and Rapunzel from the Crown district, Merida from the Dumbrock district and other guys like Milo Tuch, Judi Hopps, Nicholas Wilde, Jack Frost and Fa Mulan. Anna discovered that only a few were a little apathetic, obnoxious or indifferent. The rest of the cadets were fairly quiet and sunny.
The third day was better than the previous two, the workouts were hard but at least she did not scold the instructor Keith.
On the fourth day, however, it was terrible;
Anna showed up late, and for her misfortune, in addition to Mr. Shadis, captain Westergard was also present.
“It’s just the fourth day and you’re already late, Andersen.”
“I-I’m sorry.”
Immediately after apologizing she felt a strong hand resting on her head that made her turn towards him.
The captain approached his face to her.
"I think I have not heard."
His face was so serious. Anna swallowed again. "Sir, sorry for delay sir!" She raised her voice.
"Much better." He let her go and went on.
Anna breathed a sigh of relief.
She only should melt their captain's heart.
…
This is incomplete and I think I'll not write the second part, I only have some random piece from this AU purely Hansanna, let me know if you want more by inbox, chat or simply like and reblog :)

@dawnled asked: ❛ you know, i’ve rarely seen snow before . sora , kairi & i lived on tropical islands as kids , so it was never cold enough . ❜
Anna's brows raised in peaked curiosity, having no memory of Sora making mention of islands during his last visit to Arendelle but judging by how cold the poor boy was throughout his previous time in the kingdom, the Queen honestly wasn't too surprised by the statement.
"Guess we're opposites then! I've never really seen warm islands before.", Anna remarked with a light chuckle. "I remember at one point wishing Elsa had tropical magic. I would love to see some sandy beaches and warm suns. Don't get me wrong! Arendelle's wonderful and it does get warm here but it's still the mountains so, let's just say; Snow is our specialty! Especially with Elsa around."
She looked out over the kingdom with a fondness that warmed her heart and yet a longing that broke it. How she wished she could travel as Sora, Riku and his friends did. To see the world she had often read about as a child. But her duty was to Arendelle, so Arendelle is where she would remain.
"What's your island like? Is it big? Small? Are there sea turtles? Is the water as clear as they say?" As she often did, Anna began her questioning at a break-neck pace but fortunately for Riku, she was quick to realize the fault and cased her ramblings. "Ahem, sorry. That's not why you're here. You're here because of Sora, right? I'm really sorry but I haven't seen him since the last time he visited. He was a big help to us! We sure could have used him around when Elsa was hearing voices.", the Queen laughed awkwardly, tucking a stray hair behind her ear. "How long has he been gone for?"

It's okay to rant, my friend, I'm happy to lend an ear. I found your rant quite enjoyable tbh. This franchises is dead to me too the moment Elsa and Anna are separated. And they didn't show us how Elsa ruled as Queen, I doubt they will do anything about Anna's reign. The idea of bringing Elsa and Anna together after F2 so they can produce more books/comics/shorts is rather ridiculous and I won't buy it. Still, I will go watch F2. Yes. I love the girls (esp Elsa) too much to give up on them now.
What you just said is exactly how I feel.
As I said many times I’ll not accept Elsa’s not Queen of Arendelle anymore and even less a separation between the sisters!
Thanks for sliding into my inbox! :)

Hans Info
Full name: Hans Westergaard
Species: Human
Age: 23
Sexuality: Pansexual
FC(s): Domhnall Gleeson
Bio: As the youngest of 13 brothers, Hans found it pretty difficult to stand out in his family or as a prince. It almost seemed like, no matter what he did to an exceptional degree, one or several of his brothers would do it BETTER. It didn’t help the fact that most of them either ignored him or bullied him for being the youngest. The only sort of love he receives from his family is from his mother, who only seems to be truly content around him.
The young prince knew from an early age that her marriage to his father was arranged. The two never loved each other, never grew to be fond of one another, they can’t even stand being in the same room together. But their marriage united two kingdoms and saved The Southern Isles from disgrace.
One would think that being basically ignored by almost every member of his family would mean that Hans has the freedom to do anything he pleases, but that’s not the case. His father barely spoke to him but his eyes said everything. If Hans didn’t do what the king wanted, he would be punished -- it was the silent treatment version of ‘You may be a waste of space but you’re still a prince of the Southern Isles. Act the part.’. Etiquette, diplomacy, politics, geography, economics, manners... Hans had to master them all.
His only moments of solace were when he would be by himself on his private chambers or in the royal library. The young prince would do nothing but read -- read books about the mysteries of the world, about the different kingdoms and their customs, and, last but not least, fairytales. Yes, fairytales -- something unfit for a prince but Hans found enjoyment out of them. They were that one thing that brought a smile to his face because of how hopeful they make him feel. They made him wish for a better future, one where he was able to find true love and be happy, unlike his parents.
Years later, some months after his 22nd birthday, he was sent by his father to represent The Southern Isles at the coronation of the new queen of Arendelle. Why him? It’s still puzzling for Hans how his father doesn’t consider Arendelle a possible strong ally but was happy to be able to travel away from his homeland for a while. A few days without his family is better than nothing. Not long after a few minutes after arriving at the closed-off kingdom, he accidentally stumbled upon the princess of Arendelle, Anna.
She was the sweetest and prettiest girl he had ever seen -- prettier than all of the wives of his married brothers. And despite the unfortunate way they happened to meet, she didn't think ill of him after almost accidentally pushing her into the sea with his horse -- she even laughed! At that moment, Hans was convinced that the warmth in his chest was love. It has to be, right? What else could it be but true love? Maybe it was fate what made his father choose him to come to the coronation and meet the young princess.
Later that day, when the two were alone, he didn’t hesitate to propose right on the spot, even though it was the craziest move he could’ve done. Propose after meeting her that same day? His father would’ve thought he had gone bonkers -- you can imagine how shocked and overwhelmed he was when she said yes, a genuine and heartfelt yes. Hans thought nothing could ruin that evening.
Oh, how fate had different plans for him and everyone involved.
He never anticipated for the new queen to have any sort of magic abilities like he would so often read about in his fairytales. But she did, queen Elsa had power over ice and snow. Because of a misunderstanding, Anna’s frustrations and the evil intentions of the Duke of Weselton, her powers were exposed and everyone feared for the worst -- even he himself was unsure of how to feel at first. After Elsa ran away scared, Anna left the kingdom determined to find her and fix this mess, but not without leaving Hans in charge.
It was rough at first, trying to calm down the townsfolk as well as the other royal visitors currently stuck in Arendelle during the frozen winter in the middle of July. But he did his best, applying everything he has learned back home while adapting it to this current predicament. It worked well enough for the first hours.
When Anna’s horse returned but without its rider, his worries only increased. Dedicated to finding his bride-to-be, Hans formed a team of volunteering men to search for the princess and the queen. Hours later, he was surprised, once again, to find queen Elsa in what seemed to be a place of her creation: a palace made out of ice, truly magnificent. He was planning to reason with the queen and try to make her return to Arendelle peacefully, but those soldiers from Weselton ruined everything by scaring her and almost killing her.
The men returned to Arendelle with an unconscious Elsa. Hours later, Hans found himself with the queen, who was put in the dungeons and chained due to the worries of the other lords present. He pleased her to bring back summer, but she couldn’t. Unsure of what to do, he reassured her he would do anything to help her and returned to the comfort of the chimney. Not too long after that, Anna returned weaker than ever -- her hair was whiter than before and her body was freezing. Apparently, when anna tried to reason with Elsa, the queen accidentally froze her sister’s heart and now anna was slowly turning to ice, only to be told that an act of true love would thaw it.
The young couple stared at one another after being left alone. An act of true love... a kiss! If they kissed, she would be saved. Hans was extra careful while holding Anna, resting her against the sofa in the room that was near the chimney, all while cupping her cheek gently and smiling warmly at her. He leaned closer until his lips met hers in a closer embrace. They stayed like that for what it felt like an eternity... but neither felt anything, not a spark, not warmth, not anything. The kiss not only didn’t work, but both were dumbfounded by this revelation.
It took the help of a curious but strange talking snowman ( which shook him to no end ) for the lovebirds to realize their situation. What they thought was true love was not it -- it was a fling of the moment, a passionate desire for comfort and happiness while sharing it with another person, something both had wanted for years due to not getting any sort of love from their families. This didn’t make things awkward between them ( or at least not THAT awkward ); both knew the truth know.
Now their objective was to get Anna to Kristoff, her actual true love. Hans helped Anna get around the castle due to their weak form and her inability to walk in her current state. They reached the frozen fjörds, where Kristoff was also looking for her, but so were Elsa, the duke of Weselton and his men. Hans left anna so she would go with the blond man, while he grabbed his sword and tried his best to stop the men from killing the snow queen. However, they were three against one, two of them being much taller, bigger and stronger than him.
It all happened in a matter of seconds. The short Duke sneaked past him to strike Elsa, but then Anna stood in the way, using her last ounce of life to stop him while her body became ice. The ground shook as a wave hit everyone who was nearby. The scene was devastating to behold. Anna, who he had ground fond of and now realized she really was a good friend, stood frozen in the middle of the fjörds; Elsa hugged the statue devastated while sobbing her heart out.
No one anticipated the return of princess Anna. But it was that act of true love, the self-sacrifice she did for her sister what thawed her frozen heart. There was rejoicing all across the kingdom of Arendelle, its citizens and the lords visiting as Elsa brought back Summer.
A few days later, Hans was rewarded for his bravery and all the help he brought to Arendelle and the sister, despite the young prince insisting that he didn’t deserve anything while anna said otherwise. He was a hero, as much of a hero as Kristoff, the ice harvester, was. He and Elsa also were able to start again while building new relations between the kingdoms -- The Southern Isles and Arendelle would be their greatest allies.
Hans was content to have done a good deed and for some of his naïvete to have vanished thanks to this experience -- he’ll be careful in the matters of love, but still hopeful for a bright and loving future.
Note: Hella canon divergent. Mostly based on his personality pre-twist and first impressions from the trailers.

-----------------------------------------------
V001: Youngest of 13
Default main verse. Hans is the youngest child of the king and queen of Westergard and without any chance to get a claim to the throne, not without his 12 brothers being more favoured by his father in all ways possible. He is determined to stand out in any way possible without going against his moral compass, which includes forming better relations with other kingdoms and start having friends.
NOTE: Mostly takes place after the events of the first movie. I’ll have to see the sequel to see how I can work him into it.
V002: Working Towards a Better Life
Modern verse. As the youngest of 13 brothers, Hans was often ignored by his siblings and his father, only occasionally receiving a caring word from his mother and, if he was lucky, a full conversation with his father.
Currently, at the age of 23, he’s working to get a degree in History so he can become a professor in the subject -- history has always fascinated him, even as a child, so having the possibility to share this passion with a new generation made him happy. On top of that, Hans is also working on a novel during his free time. He also moved out of his home as soon as he was able and had the resources; at this point of his life, he didn’t want anything to do with his father’s company and connections ( not that he would get any of that ) and instead focus on making himself happy.

Alright, so let’s talk about Coco

I’m mostly just gonna stick to my first impressions/thoughts about the movie(as well as the short that played before it), though there might be some spoilers.
Speaking of the short, why don’t we just get that out of the way first? All in all, it actually wasn’t that bad. I wasn’t too impressed with Frozen in the first place(I was in that group of people who was sick to death of it early on), but Olaf was the only character I genuinely liked. I was sort of expecting this to be the short that finally broke me and made me get sick of Olaf, but nah. If anything, I found his mission to look for family traditions for Elsa and Anna to be a sweet gesture and kind of endearing. Not to mention in doing so, we actually got some nice development for the townspeople. Even if it’s kept to holiday traditions (surprisingly Christmas traditions isn’t the only thing that pops up in this short), it gives a nice bit of world-building to the kingdom of Arendelle, which was nice.
Really I think the thing that was working against the special the most was that it came out at the wrong place at the wrong time. I remember hearing a rumor that this was going to be a holiday special that was suppose to play on ABC before plans fell through - and that’s kinda what this feels like. This feels like the holiday special no one was asking for and no one wanted, because the audience bought tickets to see Coco, not this. And having this get scotch-taped to the beginning of Coco gave this impression that they were trying to force-feed more Frozen stuff. So, yeah. I can certainly see why so many people were pissed off at the extended run-time. I think maybe if they stuck with their original plans or just released it on DVD, or hell, a DVD bonus feature for something, then maybe it would have been better received. As is, not a bad special, but I wish I could have watched it some place else.
One last thing I kinda want to point out because it was an interesting thing to spot (at least to me). If you’re not paying attention, you’ll miss it, but one of the townspeople is voiced by John De Lancie. some of you may know him as Que from Star Trek, and Discord from My Little Pony. I only bring this up cause I remember pausing mid-thought to focus on the voice because it sounded so familiar. I don’t know why, but I felt so blind-sided because I still associate that voice with discord more than any other character. I wasn’t even paying attention to what the other characters were saying because for a hot second or two, this was all I could think about:

Anyways! I’ve rambled on about the Olaf special long enough.
Coco was amazing. Yes, I cried. Yes, I started buying music from the soundtrack as soon as I was heading back to the car. Man, this felt like it was a long time coming. It felt like only yesterday that I was joking about how people were gonna start flooding my inbox asking me if I saw the movie.
Alright...where to start. Cause there’s a lot of good stuff to talk about. I’m actually impressed with the character design. I mean it. Something that I was kind of worried about when the movie trailer first came out was that the skeleton designs weren’t gonna look great, or they were gonna reach uncanny levels because of the addition of the eyeballs in the sockets. And...yeah. Some of them look kind of strange, but most of them look pretty good. The designs of the Alebrijes (which I think the movie stated are spirit guides) were also really fun.
Without giving too much of the story away, for those of you worried that it’s gonna be too similar to Book of Life’s story, it isn’t. In fact, the two movies don’t really share that much in common outside of the movie centering around Dia De Los Muertos and the main character wanting to be a musician. The families on both movies are opposed to the main character’s dreams, sure, but it’s for different reasons, so I don’t really count this one all that much. I could talk about all the similarities and differences, and which I prefer, but I can make that in a separate post if people are really that curious about my thoughts on these two movies back to back. But picking a favorite isn’t necessary for talking about Coco.
Speaking of music, I really liked the music in this movie. Especially one song in particular, and it’s the main one that the movie focuses on. I adore the progression of both how the song is played, and how the meaning and importance of the song changes as the movie goes on. When you do find out what the original intent for this specific song is suppose to be, it kind of makes the first time you heard it all the more tragic. There were a few other songs I liked as well, though I don’t have too much to say other than I really liked them.
Oh gosh there were some really good characters in this movie. I really like the family Miguel has. A lot of them were fun, and even the stricter members of the family had some good character development. I never got this sense that any point, one of the family members were being strict or trying to prevent Miguel (the main character) from playing the guitar or listening to music that it was to be malicious or mean-spirited. Though I do consider some actions to have been a bit overboard, but I think that was part of the point. They present the issue in a way where it’s understandable why the family considers music to be a curse, even if the viewpoint is ultimately misguided.
Miguel was a really fun character. I really like how there was a nice balance between kindness and a bit of selfishness, too. It never felt like he went too far in the other direction. Writing for kid characters seems to be a constant challenge in fiction, I’ve noticed. so it’s always nice to see one that’s written really well.
And now, getting to the character I’m sure you’ve all been waiting for me to talk about. Oh, Hector. I can see why so many people have been asking about you specifically when it comes to the boneheads comics. Gotta admit, now that I’ve actually seen the movie, I’m still not changing my stance, though it pains me to do so more in particular. I ain’t opposed to work on a few cameo sketches one of these days, though! I just, I really love how this guy’s character was handled throughout the movie. When you first see him, you think he’s just gonna be a wise-cracking trickster, or a villain, or keep a lie that’s gonna blow up in his face near the end of the movie. But then, you get to learn more about him and why he is the way he is, and why he’s desperately trying to get to the land of the living and it’s just...man I really like this guy. He’s funny, sweet, and surprisingly resourceful. He’s a bit of a scoundrel at times, but again, you learn why that is and it’s great. All in all, great skeleton. I approve.
I think that’s about all I got to say without going into heavy spoilers. I guess if I had to list some draw backs, there are a few cliches that pop up in this movie, especially ones that are more common with modern disney/pixar movies, but I didn’t mind them all that much. So, yeah. Coco was awesome. Go see it. Definitely recommend it.
